Sleepy Mimi

Mimicraft? Like I substituted my nickname mimi for the “mine” in minecraft? Get it? ahahahaha

Anyway, for this assignment, ( 2 stars) I made myself a minecraft skin. It’s suppose to be me in one of those old lady-esque nightgowns. The idea behind my design choice comes from my love of sleeping. I feel like that’s something unique about me. I chose the nightgown design because I compare myself to an old lady a lot of the time. I feel like I belong on that old show Golden Girls sometimes! I decided to go with bunny slippers simply because they’re cute. Same with the  hair bows.

I really like cute things. (´?`??)

I’m not even going to lie though, making this was probably the most difficult thing I’ve done in a while. I created it using this site but I had so many problems with the editor. There were times when it would just stop working on me. I don’t know if the errors were caused by me or the site. In hindsight, things probably could have been easier if I hunted around for some sort of instructions/tutorials. But stubborn me didn’t do that.

**So if you decided to do this yourself, I totally suggest taking the time to figure out how things work. Don’t be me! (?_?)

Total. Party. Animal.

Partymimi
Totally. I am.

For this assignment  I went through my photo gallery and found this gem. My expression is just like “I’m done with the world.” TBH my expression is usually like this (It’s my resting face! I swear I’m usually in a good mood!) but this one just jumped out at me. It’s screaming “I need to just go to sleep.”

Since we’re required to “grab a picture of yourself in which your body language, actions, gestures, etc. suggest one thing and then play off that” I decided to go with the idea of being a hyper party animal. It’s the total opposite of sleepy me in this image.

To make this, I first opened up my image in photoshop. Then I made a square and added a circle under it. I then cropped part of the circle to make the speech bubble tail. Finally I added the text.

No Hipsters?

Wiggle

My attempt at this. I’m going to be completely honest here, my reasoning behind the content in this gif was strictly humor based. I found the poster funny. Makes me want to draw a comic featuring a hipster hamster or something.

But in a deeper sense, after looking at it long enough, I do find the simplicity of it charming. The poster up against the plain walls really pops and makes it look its coming out at you. This is something I’ll probably try again in the future.

This was fairly easy to create. I took two different images of the poster from slightly different angles. Then I loaded them into photoshop. To be more specific, I loaded one images and then went up to file –> place and placed the second image on top of the first. After that I went to window and made sure the timeline was visible.

Then I made the actual gif. Theres a little down arrow on the right side of the timeline box, I clicked that and went down to make frames from layers. This loaded the images into the timeline. Finally, I changed the time to 0.1 frames per sec and set the loop on forever.

Today in four year old fashions…

Tori

I felt like the paparazzi snapping this picture of my unsuspecting niece. Minding her own business in her chair, not a care in the world. Anyway, for this assignment (three stars) I decided to zero in on her shirt. It’s this weird pinkish-purple with cheetah print. It always surprises me how out there kid’s clothing can be. This is tame compared to some of the stuff she owns. So many colors and patterns that clash. I don’t think its necessarily a bad thing. Just something I’ve come to notice. Perhaps it’s to encourage creativity in kids or something.

As for how I went about making this, everything was done in photoshop. First I loaded the image into photoshop. Then I took the quick selection tool and made a selection of my niece’s shirt. I made a copy of the selection and pasted it to its own layer. After that I went up to Images-> Adjustments -> Black & White. Black and white layer popped up and I placed it over the initial picture’s layer. Then I took the layer with the color copy of my niece’s shirt and placed it above the black and white layer.

There’s many other ways out there to accomplish the same thing though, don’t feel this is the only way!

I’m not one to have random pictures taken of me

Spubble

My digital storytelling class calls this assignment “Your very own spubble”. It consists of taking a picture of myself and adding a speech bubble to suggest what my body language is saying. I hope you think it’s funny!

Are You Feeling Artsy, Hippy?

UNCLE Jim Groom (UNCLE Jim Groom, @jimgroom on Twitter, on Twitter) was writing today about a GIF that Spencer Scott made of him that was a Clint Eastwood one.

But when I saw it, I was thinking about when the Hippies where putting flowers in the guns and that UNCLE Jim would probably have a Hippy one with flowers in it. Plus a Hippies Flower Power badge of it.

UNCLE Jim’s flower came from this GIPHY garden.

So this is an AnimatedGIF Assignments 859 Riff-A-GIF based on Spencer’s picture but now is a GIF.

Tutorial: 6 Differences

One of my favorite activities in the Washington Post Magazine is the “Second Glance” page. I can stare at the two pictures for hours trying to find the differences! Now, everyone in ds106 has the opportunity to create their own “find the differences” picture. Just find a picture with enough stuff in it to be worthwhile, then start altering it! I chose a picture of a bunch of magazines, then changed some of the letters/shadows/etc. You can use any image-editing software for this assignment. I used PowerPoint. I wanted to make it kind of difficult to find all the differences, so I hid them pretty well. If you make the differences too easy, it’s not fun to find them all. Then you have to put both pictures next to each other for people to find the differences. Here is my altered picture above the original. Try to find the 6 differences!

find the differences finalDid you find them all? Don’t worry, if you are stumped I created an answers page! It is a good idea to make an answers page just in case. My answers page is simply the altered picture with circles around the things I changed:

find the differences answersThat’s all you need to do for this assignment! Recap: find a picture, edit the picture, place original and edited picture next to each other, create answers page, submit! Have fun finding all the differences in other people’s pictures!
