Poetry Art

So for my poetry art I decided to dedicate my poster to the development of my noir character. I chose a poem that would fit him as a character as well as his timeline. The poem is “Stopping by Woods on a Snowing Evening” by Robert Frost. The poem speaks of a farmhouse in the winter and promises the author knows he has to keep. My idea is that the poem would relate to my noir character, Jack, on a personal level, reminding him of his own childhood. The poster is supposed to reflect the early 1920’s as well though I am sure it could use work.

Noir Character Story Collage

Here is the digital storytelling collage assignment that is three points. I wanted to do a story assignment with pictures for my character Lukas Jones. I went through the character travel to the past and the characters he meets.

Bad Photo, Good Quote

Visual Assignment:

Pick A Bad Photo, Apply A Vintage Effect And Write Something In Helvetica

So I decided to do this assignment because honestly I forgot to do 2 more stars for my character. Oops! But I wanted to do this because her motto in life means a lot to her. So we were supposed to take a bad photo and but text on it. The photo I took a while back and the lighting was way to bright in the lamp. So I added her motto and it became this!

So to make this picture I uploaded it to Ribbet and messed with the filters and the text boxes to get the finished product.

Sasha’s Reminders

Writing post-it notes and grocery lists is something I do all the time, so completing the “post-it notes and grocery lists!” assignment (2 pts) is pretty natural (I just had to make notes that my character would make). Sasha Kellogg definitely would make post-it notes for herself. She is very intelligent, and when people tell her things she writes them down so she can remember later. In doing this assignment, I can get inside Sasha’s head and understand more about her day-to-day life, instead of only hammering out the big picture stuff, and makes her character more realistic.post its

Because of her background, I figured that she goes to church, and part of getting involved in church is making baked goods for picnics or bake sales. According to these post-its, she is going to make a meatloaf, and some of her groceries reflect ingredients for a meatloaf. Additionally, her to-do list includes paying rent. she lives in an apartment, so she would make a note to remember to pay it. Other notes may include random things that Sasha needs to do or a number she needs to remember. She always reminds herself to smile, because sometimes she comes home after a terrible day and seeing a post-it note saying “smile” brightens her day. Sasha is usually neat and tidy, in appearance and in mannerisms. Therefore, her post-it notes would always be lined up and written neatly. None of them would be on top of each other.

Demotivating Myself (Written as Lena)

I chose an assignment titled “Demotivate Yourself!” worth 2 points and completed it from the viewpoint of my character, Lena. Here’s the link to the assignment: http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/demotivate-yourself/

So don’t get me wrong, vet school is great and everything…but it can get messy very quick. I decided to make this meme just because I needed to make light of a situation that was not very fun. Today in vet school, I went to my internship working under a local vet. As I’m learning more in school, Dr. Wilson has been allowing me to do more hands on things with the animals that come in (under his supervision of course). So today, this beautiful snow white Poodle came in to the office to get some check ups done on his stomach because he’s been acting different lately and not eating well. In order to do some of the tests that we had to run, we had to give him a little bit of sedative just so he wouldn’t freak out. Well, I got the honors of administering the shot. It would’ve helped us to know that this animal was the absolute WORST at taking shots. As soon as I insert the needle for the shot, he jumps up and leaps at me with the force of something that you couldn’t imagine a poodle could deliver. I fall backwards, smacking my head against the wall and dropping the needle. Meanwhile, this dog is jumping all over me and barking at the needle laying on the ground like it would jump up and attack him. Eventually, the half of the shot that I actually got to give him starts to kick in and he gets just sleepy enough to stop jumping all over the room. He still had the largest look of panic in his eyes, but he physically could not jump around anymore. Dr. Wilson quickly drew the medicine in another needle and administered another half of the shot needed for the full dose. This was by far one of the most embarrassing yet scariest moments I have experienced in school so far. So, although vet school can sometimes just seem like a bunch of students playing with animals, I hope people start to realize that animals can freak out just like humans except they can’t use words. What a day as an intern….

What’s In Lena’s bag?

This assignment was a required assignment on the character we made up and it was worth 3 points. Here is the link to the assignment: http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/whats-in-your-bag/

In Lena’s bag there are only a few things. She’s a simple person and only carries the essentials with her!

1. Blistix – This is something that Lena has to have on her at all times, whether it’s in her purse or just in her pocket. Especially at this time of year in New York, it’s very easy for her to get chapped lips. The bitter winds will beat on you up there and going from the outside to inside is always a drastic temperature change.

2. Key Ring – Another item in Lena’s bag is her key ring that has her keys to her apartment and to her car. Although this seems like a pretty common item for anyone, Lena always uses it for safety. When walking home from classes or from anywhere at night, she gets a sense of protection by holding the keys between her fingers if someone were to come at her.

3. Mace – This is another item that Lena uses for a sense of protection. This is the little black tube that’s in the middle front of the picture. Her dad bought this for her before she went away to college so he would have a little bit of piece of mind too. As we’ll learn later on… Lena has a reason for having all these walls up and having two different ways to protect herself.

4. RayBans – The next item that’s in Lena’s bag is her RayBans. They’re the tortoise shell wayfarers with Lilly Pulitzer croakies. Since Lena walks everywhere, she always needs to protect her sensitive blues eyes while also looking fashionable.

5. Dark Lipstick – This is one of Lena’s favorite things. It’s a deep berry colored lipstick that she always has on her. She doesn’t wear it everyday but she keeps it on her just in case she needs to spice up her outfit or look a little different under her RayBans and floppy hat.

6. Wallet – This is kind of an obvious thing to have in a purse, but it is essential to include. In here, Lena has her credit card, gift cards, and just a little bit of cash. She doesn’t carry a ton just in case she were to lose it. You can cancel a credit card, but you can’t make your cash come back.

7. Headband – Since Lena is in Veterinarian school, she always needs to be able to get her hair out of her face. When working with any animal, her shoulder-length hair will swing right in front of her face and distract her. The headband pictured is her favorite one that her family had sent her when they went on a mission trip to Guatemala. Now that her family is in Scotland, they travel more and more to places all over the world and send Lena a souvenir from each place they go to.

8. Advil – Another item in Lena’s bag is a small bottle of Advil. Lena gets headaches all the time from neck and back problems that she’s had for years. There’s nothing she can really do about it besides try to relax her muscle with heated pillows and massages. So, she always carries some Advil around for the small pains that nag her throughout the day.

9. Small Moleskin & Pen – This last item is Lena’s favorite thing that she carries around with her. She uses the pages as a place to write any thoughts or ideas that enter her mind. She writes them all down before she even has the chance to forgot them. So if she happens to leave it at home during the day, her entire day is thrown off.

Ah this is where being a total nerd pays off

I found the assignment to put text over a gif and luckily I was already working on something like that for my disney blog (which i have because I’m a total nerd). So I picked it up and polished it off to use for this.

wow totally lame right? I used this little program I found called gifcam to record the gif and then in adobe image ready I changed the saturation and put the words over top. I’d put a screenshot of the process but I had already done most of the interesting stuff and when I found the assignment I just put the words over top. Also here is the link on my tumblr for where I uploaded it there too.

Can I make this any more obvious?

Okay so I’m taking on the putting disney in focus assignment. I saw somebody else had used a photo from a trip to France and I jumped at the bit to use a picture from my trip to disney world.  So an important symbol from the movie Tangled is the sun which is on the flag on the kingdom. So I snapped this pretty pic of the flags they had out. While some people had things that were’t as direct from disney, I went with straight from disney world.

Caleb’s bag

This assignment is called what’s in your bag and it is worth 3 stars. Caleb is a sheriff that prides himself in being able to not need that much to survive each day. I carries very little with him everyday in his bag.

20150201_183447

To start he carries a coffee cup so that he can stay awake after his night the night before. Everyone knows not to bother him if he does not have his coffee. The next thing he has is a shot glass because he never knows when he is going to need a drink. He will drink at any moment so he needs to be ready for when he feels like it. Next in his bag we find a pen. He carries on just because he knows that he should for the job. The set of keys that are in his bag have a key to his farm, the office, and the car. Another thing he always has is cash. He always likes to have a good amount of cash on him because he never knows what he will need. He also always has a knife with him. It is just something he always has. The phone is his but the case he found and the bar and decided to keep it so that his phone could have a case. The last thing is the laptop. He is only supposed to use it for work but he uses it as if it is his personal one.
