Larger Than Life

The prompt

The prompt was to take a photo of something that makes it seem larger than it is. I was drawn to the chairs in the parlor downstairs in my dorm because to me, they’ve always looked like Steve’s chair from Blue’s Clues, just small. Not as big as his looked in the TV show. I shot the photo from the floor, angling it upward. I tried to keep the carpet out of frame so that it couldn’t be used as a reference for how big the chair was and make it seem bigger. As a happy accident, (hey, Bob Ross!) my finger under the phone put it at a Dutch angle, which is traditionally used in cinematography to show that something (i.e. a situation, character, etc.) is weird or wrong. So the accidental Dutch angle in my photo adds to the fact that something is weird, the chair is huge! The lens flare, another happy accident, makes it seem majestic and grand, adding to the largeness, I think. In real life it’s a normal sized chair, maybe on the small side.

Sweet Creature

I’m not sure why I chose this assignment. I’m not a big concert fan, but I will say after seeing so many TikToks of people at a Harry Styles concert… I want to go. However, you will NEVER catch me paying that much money to see him unless I won the lottery or something. So, this is as close as I’ll ever get. (I also put myself at the very front, because if I were to see him that’s where I’d be, I’m not paying hundreds of dollars for nosebleeds).

This assignment was honestly extremely easy. I took a photo, cut out the background from it. Searched up “Harry Styles concert,” then stuck myself on the photo. And yet again… I used my trusty PicsArt app to do all of this. (It honestly has so many features for being free, so I have to take advantage).

Get over it, it’ll all work out

I started looking up short poems, and nothing was calling my name for this assignment. But just as I was able to give up, I remembered the one saying that I always say.

It may not be long, but honestly it has so much meaning. I typically say it in a mean way when people tell me something that is bothering them, but really this saying can mean so many different things. If you’re stressed about something at work, cry a little bit, then get over it. Eventually things will work out.

I think this saying can go really well with how this class is going. I can complain all day long about how much work this is, but in the long run I just need to figure out a way through it. I need to stop focusing on being perfect, and start being more creative.

The process of this assignment was pretty easy. I thought of the saying I wanted to do, and went over to Spotify (not an Apple Music type of person sorry…). I started adding songs to the playlist and now were here.

1, 2, 3 cats…

For this assignment, I kind of wanted to switch it up a bit. I used an older photo, but I knew I had to use one where all my cats were in the same place. I find it funny how each of my cats have a different expression on their face, so it actually makes it look like they’re different photos.

I started by searching for the photo. I knew what photo I wanted to use, so this was very difficult. I used PicsArt to create my collage, and I simply included the photo 7 times to get the right amount of boxes. After that it was all about cropping the subjects to be in their own squares to see if its the same photo.

This assignment was actually very cute, and I’m glad I chose to do one with my cats rather than taking a photo of pointless things. I feel like when I do these assignments, I really want to capture who I am as a person – what better way then focusing on my animals. Because in reality, my animals are my “Joy of Painting.”

Julie Andrews… the animal whisperer

I honestly just Googled “Movie Posters” to start this assignment. When I saw The Sound of Music, I knew it was perfect. It’s such a classic movie, and the movie poster could be made funny in so many different ways.

Immediately when I saw her arms reaching out I either wanted to make her extremely muscular, or have something reach up to her. I soon realized it was extremely difficult to photoshop muscular arms on her, so I simply added animals. I started out by finding a high quality movie poster for the movie. I then looked for animals to use in the photo. I used PicsArt to cut out each of the animals. Then I simply overlayed them onto the photo.

I could’ve done something fun with the name of the movie. But I kinda think it’s funny having a bunch of animals on a movie poster that mentions music. It gives the illusion that the animals will be singing in the movie.

Did I make a typo?

Hey everyone! I hope you all are having a wonderful week. This assignment was fun; I got to use a new online-based tool, and I like using those because they are a bit more approachable for beginners.
The idea of this assignment was to find pictures online and upload them to this site that converts them with a typographic effect!

It was pretty straightforward. I used this site here, and it allowed me to change the font and vary the effect level to my liking. Warning if you use adblockers (which you should), this site does not work. Another theme I have for this blog is making people aware of the tools they can use to protect their privacy, so when going to this site, I recommend using a second browser and setting the history and site settings to clear when closing.

Once you upload the pictures, you can easily download them, but for me, right-clicking and saving the image did not work if you are looking for a good site for stock photos, I recommend this one!

Welcome to the Matrix!

I hope everyone is having a great week, and thanks for stopping by!

 Illustrate 106 (1 Star)

Turns out there’s a car called the Peugeot 106. Not available in North America though.

I found a picture of one that said 106 on the license plate, so I tweaked the colors a bunch to accentuate the 106ness of it.

Looks almost like a digital render now, but it was a picture of a red Peugeot at the beginning of this project.

Art Comes To Life (3 Stars)

I replicated the soup can picture from Andy Warhol, or one of the many. I never saw the appeal in this stuff……

I also didn’t have a soup can, so I used this can of beans that I’ve had in my pantry forever. I took a picture of the can, ran it through one of the those sketch things, and did some excellent coloring on the top of the can.

Adapt an Artist’s Work (3 Stars)

Leonardo Da Vinci painted the Mona Lisa in the 1500s. Happiness is the representation of this famous piece, in the words of Da Vinci himself.

So I decided to desecrate and vandalize the Mona Lisa to change its meaning. I’ve added some facial hair, angry eyebrows, glasses and a mustache.

Now, the Mona Lisa no longer represents happiness, as was one intended. She is now angry. What at, we will never know. Her beard and mustache remove the beauty from her face, and her glasses are less than flattering to say the least. It’s also a common myth that her eyes follow you around the room, but her striking new features dispel that myth as well.

Street View Story (3 Stars)

I randomly zoomed out on Google Maps and dropped the pin with my eyes closed. I ended up at 19 Pochtamtskaya Ulitsa in Kapinsk, Sverdlovsk Oblast. Which is in Russia.

19 Pochtamskaya resembles a Soviet Gulag of some sort. I can’t read Cyrillic, which is what all of the signs are in. There is a barbed-wire fence and a couple of smokestacks in the building, but they come out of the underground, not the building itself. Perhaps a secret government manufacturing center? Probably not, because the exterior of the building looks absolutely terrible. In actuality, likely a brake factory or something. If it was an apartment building in DC, the rent would easily be $2,000 a month because of the “urban design.” I wonder how many Google Street View drivers have been abducted by townspeople?
