This was a fun little diversion!

I had a good chuckle reading the description for this assignment! Editing software is a little frustrating, but I know that it is part of the process of learning!
For this assignment, I was told not to use editing software and to take a panoramic picture instead with a cell phone. I luckily had a friend at school today willing to help me out! So we went to the UC!
The provided guide was helpful, but unfortunately, it was for an iPhone. As it turned out, my friend has one, so he saved me twice today!

I am always amazed at how technology has improved. I remember when smartphones were first coming out and never thought that cameras would become so advanced!
Android phones do have panoramic mode, so I will have to see if it works similarly in the future. Please ignore the last bit of the photo, as there was a glitch in the Matrix.

Thanks, Elizabeth, for writing this assignment!

Car Lust (2 Stars)

I pretty much have my dream car already, but it’s not as perfect as I’d like it to be.

But in Europe, they got a faster, wagon version of my car. So you have to import them, and can’t because you aren’t allowed to until they’re 25 years old. My first car was a silver A4 from 1997, which I drove for a while but I always wanted a faster one. So I bought a 2001 S4 recently, but I have another car so I don’t drive it. But I always wanted a 2001 Rs4, like the one in the picture. I’m not even sure why I like them that much, I guess it’s the performance combined with the timeless (to me) styling. That would probably explain why I’ve had so many different cars…

I also like to modify my cars, the one in the picture is slightly modified. That just enhances the allure for me.

One Broken Tech is Another Man’s Art

“Glitch art is a genre of art based around digital artefacts. A digital artefact is the unexpected result of when a technology breaks. An artefact could be sound of a CD skipping or pixilation on a highly compressed Youtube video. Glitch has been called the “art of the artefact” and stretching the intended use of a device or file.”

ds106 Assignments: Glitch Art

I was going to grab some photos of glitches and try to do some visual mixed media, similar to how other people have previously completed this assignment. But when I googled glitches, so many cool pictures came up that I wanted to use all of them.

So I picked my favorites and put them in what I think is a semi-aesthetical order, and uploaded them to an online gif maker.

And of course, I couldn’t help but put a little bit of story into it. The two frames that are quicker than the others are a glitchy inhuman face and a circle. There is also a sliver of a more human-like face in one of the other photos and I didn’t realize it until after I made the gif. Another piece of the puzzle! I don’t know their story, and I don’t know how actually noticible it is, but I like it.

Another way to put a {sort of } narrative into a piece of digital visual media! Add it to the list, Mary!

Can You Make a Xylophone Out of This?

“Take a close up picture of something as see if people can guess what it is. Try doing the skin or outside of something that would make it hard for someone to guess!”

ds106 Assignments: That’s Not What I Expected

Can you guess it?

It was King.

He’s my little skeleton friend.

Do not worry, these pictures are posted with his written consent.

Lesson learned: Look inside things, when you are allowed, and try to get your eyes working differently.

Honest Game Cover: Wii Sports

If you were fortunate growing up, you have a Wii. And if you did, you most likely remember the game that came with the console: Wii Sports. The 2006 game featured five sports simulations, tennis, boxing, baseball, golf, and my personal favorite, bowling.

While Nintendo likely created this game with the intention of increasing physical activity among video game users, most of us can agree that we favored the least physically active sport of the five: bowling.

I played so much Wii Bowling, that I acquired the golden bowling bowl TWICE (the first time on our original Wii and the second time after our Wii malfunctioned and deleted all of its data). My friends and I used to see how far away from the console you could get and still have a connection to the game. We would play “long-distance bowling”, and we were pretty good at it.

Since I feel like most people played the least active game on Wii Sports, I decided to add a little something extra to the game’s cover. You know, just to get our expectations here clear.

The original game cover

I put the image into a Word document, placed a white square over the original icons of the sports, and using a downloaded Wii font package, I put my mind to work. I choose to use Word because it is a surprisingly good graphic design tool for quick and simple projects. Without further ado, here is the final product:

Let’s Take a Trip

**** four and a half stars

For this assignment I had to make a story map for a trip I took. I chose to document my trip I took 2 years ago to Toronto, Canada for spring break. It was such a fun trip to take with friends and I definitely recommend going if you have the chance!

Say Cheese!

** two stars

For this assignment I had to make a collage of photos I took of my friends when they were not paying attention. I am not currently at school so I put my own little twist on this assignment. I used old “candid” photos of me and my friends instead. We knew that pictures were being taken but we were not exactly ~ready~ for them.

A Dark Reflection

Decorative Image

Be on the lookout for this sign. It marks the entranceway to the Shadow Fredericksburg. There everything is reversed. Ross Bob angrily photographs large unhappy bushes. You might find yourself in an analog nonfiction writing class. You may even find yourself attending courses at WMU instead of UMW. Everything in Shadow Fredericksburg isn’t bad, but it can be near impossible for newcomers to find their feet and the royam of the land doesn’t take happily to those who don’t understand the customs. So best (or should I say worst) of luck to those who stumble out of our dimension and into that one.

For the assignment, Shadow of a Doubt, I had to take a picture featuring a shadow and tell a story with my picture. It was worth 2.5 stars.
