Favorite Lyrics

3 1/2 star finished! This assignment was a lot of fun! I was supposed to find my favorite lyric and add it to a photo. While scrolling through the assignment page, this caught my eye just like my story map did. As I started brainstorming what I wanted to do for this assignment, I realized that I didn’t have just one favorite song. I have a few favorite songs. So I set off to find the perfect pictures to go along with my 3 favorite songs. After I found the pictures I went to a photo editing website called PicMonkey. This site really helped when it came to adding the text to the picture. I used iPhoto to edit the pictures themselves and PicMonkey to add the text and the borders. Below are my findings!

This first lyric is from a song called The Ghosts That We Knew, by Mumford and Sons. This song is my all time favorite song. I just get a good vibe while listening to this song and the lyrics are very well written. I took this photo this weekend while I was on a retreat in Maryland. The views there were incredible! After I added the text to the picture in PicMonkey, I was playing around with the different borders and I came across one that made it look like a polaroid. I thought this really added a great touch to the picture.

I took this picture when I was on a vacation in Vermont over the summer. We were driving through mountains to the resort we were staying at during the week. I thought this picture would be perfect for my next song, Trouble. I chose the next song because this band, American Authors, is one of my favorite. They are a band from Brooklyn, New York. I was fortunate enough to see them in concert over the summer so that’s where I really began to like them. You can check out the video over here!

This final picture is from my mission trip to Nicaragua over the summer of 2013. We were at the beach over on the Pacific side of the country. There was a storm just holding off over the water. This picture was a product of that wonderful storm. I decided to use this picture for the next lyric, Between the Raindrops by Lifehouse. I decided to use this one because I felt like it wasn’t too rainy but there was still a hint of rain. Like that even though things seem bad, it will always get better. I like this lyric because its like there is someone with you on that bad time as well.

I really enjoyed making these photos and I really enjoyed taking those photos! I like to take pictures whenever I can because I feel like I can freeze a moment in time. I hope you guys enjoy these photos!

My Favorite Lyric

3 and a half stars. This is one of my favorite lyrics. It’s from a Dave Matthews song, Lie in Our Graves. I found this photo on flickr and then just used Google Picasa editor to put the lyrics in. Dave Matthews in one of my favorite artists and I’ve grown up listening to him. He has such a great voice and relatable, beautiful lyrics. I got to see him live this past summer and it was one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. He has so many quotable lyrics, but I really like this one because it just makes you want to feel happy and free. I also think of swinging when I hear this lyrics so that’s why I chose this picture of a girl on a swing going up into the clouds.

We are the champions.

John Legend once said, “We should care about what is going on in the world.” For this assignment, I basically had to get an image, my favorite lyric, and combine those two together which should represent the same thing. It should be similar to each other. The lyrics should stood out to it and this one I did, it completely stood out to my friends and I completely. This took place after my graduation in June 2014. It was the best moment after getting our diplomas and my principal telling us we are official graduates. The best feeling ever.

To do this assignment, I basically used my graduation picture. I imported it in paint. I clicked the Text box. Put my favorite lyric, “We are the champions, my friends, And we’ll keep on fighting ’til the end.” from the song We are the champions.  Then I added the Segoe Script font to my text. To describe this lyric for this picture, my class we worked hard and we’re going to keep working hard in college till we graduate from college and get a good job.

We are the champions

American Kids

My final assignment I completed was the “My Favorite Lyric.” I chose lyrics from the song American Kids by Kenny Chesney. I like the song as a whole so it was tough to choice a specific part that I wanted. After looking for some pictures to show the lyrics I found one that I really like so I had to use it. I used Word and Paint to put the lyrics on the picture. I used 3 word boxes to put the lyrics here. Hope you like my picture.

Wombats Can Sing, Kind Of

Two visual assignments down, only 2 more to go! I think. It took me a lot longer to find another visual assignment that i found interesting. After going through like 4 pages, i found this assignment. I was a little suspicious that it was 4 stars.. So i’m not taking any chances and i’m doing more than 12 stars. There are only two things i needed for this assignment: A good song and great lyrics. Most of you may think i only like 80s post punk revival or just anything that isn’t modern. Well, i hate to break it to you, but i enjoy pop music too! To an extent, that is. I like pop punk and rock pop. This is where one of my favorite modern bands come in to play: The Wombats. They’re an energetic band from Liverpool, England. If you haven’t heard of them before, i beg you to look into them. ANYWAYS. Here’s my assignment!

1. The Song:

It was difficult for me to choose a song from The Wombats, to be honest. I decided to play their albums on shuffle through itunes and whichever song came first, i chose for my assignment. Luckily, one of my favorites came on: “Tokyo”. It’s just an overall great song that’s catchy and insightful. The second hardest part was choosing which lyric. Again, i left this up to chance because i couldn’t decide. I held down the fast forward button for a good 10 seconds and when i released it, the lyrics “Back to that bar in Tokyo where the demons from my past leave in peace”. Yay! those are some pretty good lyrics to work with. If you want to see all the lyrics, here they are. Now, if you’re an even better person and want to hear the whole song, here it is! I highly suggest you listen to it…

2. The Picture & Font

Now that i chose the lyrics, what picture best represents those lyrics? When i think of Tokyo, i think of the pacific “Times Square”. Serious bright lights and crowds of people wondering around. Well, when you listen to the song it’s all about seeing who the real you is and just overall finding yourself. This isn’t necessarily a good thing because like the lyrics say “where the demons from my past leave me in peace”. Basically what i pictured for this was a fancy, hip bar. So i simply googled Tokyo high fashion bar and that’s where i got it from! I uploaded this picture to GIMP and my next step was to find the right font. I scrolled to the bottom of the list and stuck with a fancy curvy one. Makes sense, right? So i added that text layer to the picture and boom! my final piece! I think it came out pretty cool. I’m definitely not biased or anything.

She Thinks We’re Just Fishin’

For my third Visual Assignment for this week I did “My Favorite Lyric.” This isn’t exactly my favorite lyric but it is a memorable one and since I am in my final year of undergrad, I am feeling a little nostalgic. Missing childhood and all of the memories that I have, as well as feeling super old. When I saw this assignment, I knew exactly the lyric I wanted to use. Then I was going to get a picture from the internet  but then I remembered that I had a picture of myself fishing when I was little. And that was how I decided what to do.

How I did it:

I used GIMP to make this. I opened my picture in GIMP and added the text. I tried to get fancy with it but I couldn’t figure out how to make the background of the text fancy even though I looked up some tutorials, I couldn’t find what I was looking for. Nonetheless, I am happy with how it turned out. I like the font that I chose, though I’m not sure why. I was just going through the fonts and found one that I liked. This one is Century Gothic.

Here is my picture:

The song is by Trace Adkins and the picture is by my mom (haha).

One in a Million…

My Favorite Lyric

Favorite Lyrics

For this assignment, I chose the song “The World” – by Brad Paisley because when my boyfriend, Chris, and I were in the car during the first weeks we started dating, three and a half years ago, this song came on. He started singing along, and being the person I am, I sang along as well but listened and thought about the lyrics as the song went on. The words that completely stuck out and stuck in my head were “you think you’re one in millions, but you are one in a million to me”. At that point I was blushing, and could only think about Chris. Although we had just started dating, I had a gut feeling there was something about him, and when those words processed in my head, that is exactly how I felt. There a millions of people in the world, so why me? Now, every time I hear that song, the only thing that comes to mind is the first time we heard it in the car together, and it brings back millions of butterflies. Below I have the lyrics to the entire song if you’d like to have a look!

Design:

To create this assignment, I started out choosing the lyrics, which definitely came quick to me considering the “lovey” mood I was in. I then thought about a picture setting that would fit perfectly with the lyrics, and my first thought was a wedding. The perfect part for the lyrics to me was when the newlyweds are engaging in their first dance, because you can see all of the love in their actions and emotions. They make it seem like they are the only people in the world at that moment. I found hundreds of pictures, but one stuck out to me, a black and white photo of a couple in the center of their circle of friends and family. I copied that picture, and then pasted into Paint. It was already a good size so I did not need to resize it. To add the lyrics to the photo, I clicked the textbox button on the top of the toolbar, and opened it on the picture where I wanted the lyrics to be located. I typed in the lyrics and contemplated about the color the words should be for a good five minutes. I decided to choose black and white because I wanted the picture to have a “soft” vibe to it, and leaving everything black and white seems as if it would achieve that. Before clicking outside of the textbox to see what the finished product would look like, I made the transparent link on the toolbar was clicked so the lyrics just sat on top of the picture, using the picture as the background. To decide what font I wanted to use, I selected all of the text and went through each and every font option, and found the one I liked the most. After completing the final details of the font, font color and font size I clicked outside of the text box to see how it looked. I am perfectly happy with how it came out. I finished the assignment by saving it and uploading it to flckr!

Favorite Lyrics of A Hot Crazy Mess

My family loves this song so much that the lyrics are framed and hanging in our dining room and we say the chorus as our family prayer every night before dinner.

Song for Your Soul

So I decided to take a scene of a picture in one of the future upcoming episodes in Season 2; Episode 6 of the Wire. Let’s just say this is a foreshadowing of what is to come. IT’S ALL IN THE GAME YO!
