What’s in your bag?

(3 stars) http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/whats-in-your-bag/
This assignment asks to explain the contents of a person’s bag. I am explaining the bag of my character Melody. You can find more information about her here http://sayheyjanaye.com/assignments/introducing-melody-bay-kennish-ahn/

Melody Bay’s bag is a mess much like her life. She is always ready to pick up and go paint and her bag definitely reflects that.

mbbrushes

mbpaint2

mbcanvas

Melody must carry around her paintbrushes, paint, and canvases at all time. She never knows when inspiration will strike. Also her mini canvases are the talk of the time, people in the town love seeing a little canvas show up in their belongings. Usually it is an up close picture of a body part like an eye, hand, or mouth.

mbdress

Melody always keep an extra set of clothes on her, because the paint is constantly staining her clothes.

mbhairties

The hair ties are for when Melody’s hair is falling her face. She desperately needs a hair cut, but she has been so forgetful lately.

mbmoney

Lastly, crushed and crumpled between the paint supplies and clothes is bills and loose change. She cannot be bothered to keep a wallet and she always leaves paintings or raw sketches instead of paying. Which of course no one complains when her artwork has been appraised for hundreds of dollars, sometimes in the thousands.

What’s in Shadow’s Bag?

What’s in your bag? -3pts

I emptied out Shadow’s bag and these are its contents.

Shadow's Bag

  • A Napsack (in his favorite color)- Shadow is a thief and so half the stuff in his bag isn’t his. He carries this sack to place all his stolen goodies in.
  • Shades- He always carries his shade to complete his outfit and aide his disguise. Shadow secretly thinks he is a bad ass with them on though he’s really not.
  • Gloves- Shadow always carries gloves because he never wants to leave evidence at the scene of a crime. He also believes they are stylish and fits is “image.”
  • Knife- He always carries a backup weapon around you never know when you will be in a sticky situation.
  • Stolen Money- Again, Shadow is a thief, this is the money from people he pick-pocketed today.
  • A Satchel- Shadow saw the gold chain from the purse and fell in love. He apparently robbed the purse from a rich, drunk lady. He said it was like stealing candy from and baby.
  • Candy- He said the metaphor caused him to crave candy.
  • Jewelry (a pearl necklace, a diamond necklace, gold earrings, and a gold bracelet)- He stole from his favorite jewelry store. He plans to sell them  later on once the heat settles down.

-Don’t worry I will return all the items this klepto stolen to their rightful owners. Except the candy, I am keeping that, sorry.

What’s in Isabelle Franklin’s Bag?

Well, honestly, not much. She tries to keep as organized as possible and in order to stay organized she tries to only carry with her what she absolutely finds necessary. The pen, pencil, and white out is especially important to her. She alway’s is taking notes and jotting down ideas and is a bit of a perfectionist so if she makes a mistake she needs to be able to correct it. More recently however she’s fallen sick. She’s had an upset stomach and a runny nose so she’s taken to carrying around famotidine and tissues. Her runny nose leaves her face chapped so she’s also been carrying around Chapstick to minimize the pain that comes with a chapped face. She carries an apple in hopes that it will remind her to eat, yet night after night she comes home without so much as glancing at the apple. The dime? It’s merely change from an earlier purchase. She’ll put it away as soon as she gets home.

bag assignment

Here’s the required What’s in My Bag Visual Assignment for three stars. This I felt like was one of my weaker photographs but I think the storytelling came through more so than any of my other visual assignments. I wanted to emphasize my character’s minimalist tendencies while also telling the story of how she fell ill. The dime was more of a quirk because we all sometimes end up with something strange in our bag. I began the assignment by relating to the cough I’ve had for the past week and used that to tell a story. I then thought of what would normally be in Isabelle Franklin’s bag. Finally, I was really just trying to complete the square and found a dime which could have it’s own little side story.

It’s rude to snoop through a lady’s purse

delia

How uncultured.

Let’s begin with my beauty items-

  • Powder Compact

I sing under hot lights all night, I can’t look oily! I’m the backbone of the whole place, imagine if Frank Sinatra came in one night and saw me looking anything less than perfect? I would be ruined.

  • Perfume

Darlin’ if you’ve ever been backstage, you would know why I need perfume. All kinds of grease and greasy people.

  • Nail File

Long nails rip up long gloves somethin’ awful, and the lounge takes it off of my check! Slimy business, I tell you.

  • Lipstick

Defined lips are a must, unless you want to look washed-out. You wouldn’t want me to be washed-out, would you?

  • Eye Pencil and mascara

Eyebrows and eyelashes are almost as important as lips. They frame your whole face!

  • Bobbi Pins

A lady’s unprepared if she goes out with anything less than 30 Bobbi pins. Who knows when a dashing stranger will need to pick a lock?

  • Nylons

It’s always good to have a spare, in case the ones you’re wearing get a run or you spend the night away from home…

  • Gloves

Do you know how cold it gets at night? Forty degrees in the winter! They also protect me by hiding my fingerprints should I ever get swept up in shenanigans.

  •  Cigarette

That’s definitely a real smoke. Not bubblegum wrapped in paper. Nope.

  • Pen

I take notes, sometimes, of people who come to the bar. There’s one ol’ man who could be working for the Cubans. Or, maybe he just lost a few teeth. But it could be the Cubans.

  • Money Clip

I keep a whole $5 with me when I go out, in case I have to bug out and pay for a cab or a room.

  • Gum

I want to be ready for my big head moment- You know, where the music gets real loud and the stars come together and the camera zooms in and all you see are their giant heads kissing? Movies don’t show the bad breath, though.

  • Sewing Kit

Just in case. In case a button falls off, or a seam pops, or I have to stitch someone up.

You know, after looking through my bag without my permission, it would be even ruder to ask how I fit it all in my purse.

For a mandatory three-star assignment, this was pretty fun. I had to think of what Delia would carry with her, why she would keep everything. I tried to be as period-realistic as possible and use my vintage makeup cases. Unfortunately, vintage gum isn’t readily available. I also practiced writing in Delia’s voice, trying to in down her accent. New Orleans and Louisiana are very interesting because of the huge differences in dialects even within the city. There’s uptown/French Quarter, which is a lot like standard english but drops the ending “r” and “g” consonants, and the “Yat” accent which is a lot like a Brooklyn/NJ sound. I see Delia as having a moderate Cajun accent, slow-speaking. Some of it would have been trained out into standard English during vocal instruction.

Here, I just laid out everything on a side table I had and laid it out nicely. I didn’t have any cigarettes, candy or otherwise, and my smoking neighbors all use e-cigs, so I made one with an index card and painter’s tape. I took the photo with my phone.

What’s In Your Bag?

Your purse, bag, packpack, murse, whatever, is your constant companion throughout your adult life. What are the essentials in your bag that get you through the day? Take a picture of the items and detail each of them with a description.

http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/whats-in-your-bag/

3 Points!

backpack

Above is a picture of some of the things Gambino carries around on a daily basis. On the top left is a belt clip for Gambino’s phone. Gambino does a lot of business and his phone is one of his most important possessions. Below the belt clip is a knife. A knife goes along with Gambino’s gun although I could not get a picture of his gun. Gambino runs into trouble from time to time and having weapons of self defense is the only way to go. There is a bottle of Jim Beam whiskey and a can of tobacco because we all know that Gambino is never seen without some sort of alcohol or some sort of tobacco. Lastly, the playing cards are an essential for Gambino as he does a lot of betting and is all about the high stakes money.

Finding a few of these products was a little challenging but I found that they fit the Gambino personality perfectly. I used a filter on my phone to change the contrast to black and white to fit the noir style. One of Gambino’s biggest traits would be his gun but I kind of doubt that ill ever be able to capture a photo of it. Of course Gambino carries other things but these few things are his essentials.

This visual assignment was must do assignment. So I looked around my room and found this pouch in my school backpack. I always carry this around with me. Let’s look at closely what I have in this flower pattern pouch.

First, I have a pen and a notebook. Just in case, I might need to write down something important like assignments that professors give out or due day.

Right next to notebook, you can see the yellow box. It’s band-aid. I get paper cut easily so I bring with me. Sometimes I see people who need it, so I just take it out from my pouch.

The pink object is toothbrush cap. I do not know why it’s in there but I think I put it in when I went on trip during winter break after the trip, I did not take it out from the pouch.

As you can see, rest of the objects are make-up things. Since it is winter, my lips dry up quickly. I put immediately on my lips so it does not dry out and see blood on it. As same reason, I bring handcream with me so I can put it on.

It was good time for me to take out some stuffs and clean my pouch. It was kind of heavy for me to carry, and now it’s lighter than before. :)

What’s in your bag?

From Checkbooks to Lipstick

A little glimpse into Blair’s life. Be Prepared, or Scared, or both……

For 3 mandatory stars, we had to create some type of bag for our character (What’s in Your Bag?), and spread its contents out. Now as you all obviously know (since you’ve read up on my character Blair). She is a mysterious woman, with a dark side. Below is a picture of her bag, as well as the contents of said bag.

Blair's Bag

Now, the details of her bag get a little obscure, but bear with me.

Her black purse is her favorite purse. Not only is it big enough for all of her belongings, it is big enough to hide her secrets when she needs to. She is somewhat of a klepto, and she likes to steal things from crime scenes. There is an old saying that girls are either purse girls, or shoe girls. Well, Blair is definitely a purse girl.

Now, you would think a checkbook would be used to document bank statements and uses of monies. Well not in Blair’s case. She uses her checkbook to keep track of all the items she has stolen from crime scenes. She is very organized, and has never forgotten to log anything. She puts the date, crime, and location, making sure not to make any mistakes.

Her trusty pen is always on hand. She uses this pen not only to write in her log book, but to do everything else that requires a pen. She refuses to use someone else’s. This pen writes exactly the way she likes. Blair is a lefty, so pens tend to smudge all over her hand when she writes. This pen, however, does not. It is perfect.

Next is her wallet. She never goes anywhere without it! Inside you will find the usual– License, Credit Cards, Debit Cards, gift cards, store bonus cards, pictures of her kids, some cash and a picture of her birth parents, folded in 4ths and tucked in the back. She found that picture online, but no one knows she has it. Her wallet contains everything she needs to get by when she is out and about.

Blair never leaves home without a pair of sunglasses. She has perfect vision, and she wants to keep it that way. She wears them even when it is not sunny, and she tends to push them up to rest on her head when she is inside. These glasses were given to her by her neighbor, as a gift for watching their cat, Puffles, when they went on vacation.

One thing Blair is obsessed with is her Berry Red lipstick. She puts it on before she leaves in the morning, and reapplies hourly. She has been wearing this same color since the death of her husband. Before she would wear a solid red, but now she feels as though the berry does her face justice.

What woman leaves home without a mirror? Mirrors are vital to check for blemishes or make up faults. Blair also uses her mirror to check behind her when she is trying to eavesdrop. This mirror is small enough to make it seem like she is just trying to fix her makeup, but it really has an ulterior purpose.

Her pocket knife is for protection. Living in Detroit, you come across some questionable people. She likes to have this on her in case of emergency. It is also part of her stolen items collection. She obtained this knife from a house which was robbed. She was cleaning up and found it laying on a table. She swiped it, and recorded it into her book. She has never had to actually use it yet…

Diapers. When you have 5 children under the age of 10, (3 that are 5 and under) you would have diapers too. You never know when you are going to leave the diaper bag in the car, or when one of the kids will have an accident. They are also VERY absorbent and can be used many other ways if you think outside of the box.

She obviously carries her crime scene investigator badge. She is not allowed on scene without it, and she sometimes uses it in ways she is not supposed to, especially to get what she wants out of people. While she is only responsible for clean up, she doesn’t have to  tell other people that. CSI is CSI.

Her house key is attached to a lanyard made by her oldest child Charles Jr. He made it for her at school during recess. While she thinks it is the ugliest creation, he was so proud of it that she couldn’t say no to putting it on her key. It does help her keep track of it.

Blair carries tissues, like a typical mother. Tissues can be used for your nose, for your mouth, to clean a table, etc. They are very handy and should be in EVERYONE’S bag or purse. You never know when you are going to need one. She only uses kleenex brand, though. She feels as though the knock offs dry her nose out, and she’d rather spend a little more to feel a little better.

Gum is something Blair lives off of. She always has a piece in her mouth, no matter where she is. It helps to calm her down. It also gives her rhythm to follow when she is walking. Another benefit is that it keeps her breath smelling fresh, just incase she comes across someone to be interested in.

This picture is something she found at a crime scene. It was in a frame hanging on the wall above a dead woman. She took it out stealthily and keeps it in her purse. Why this picture? No reason. She saw it. She liked it, and she took it. She does this often at houses she enters. This is the only one she has ever kept in her purse. The others are in an album inside her drawer of stolen items.

Lastly are a pair of skeleton keys. These keys came from the first crime scene she ever cleaned up. They were laying outside on the sidewalk next to the trash can. She saw them, and immediately took them. These are the reason she became obsessed with taking things from crime scenes. Every piece has a history. Every piece has a story that she wishes she knew the words to. She keeps these keys on her in hopes that one day she will find out what they open.

WOW. This assignment was rough. I used gimp to place all of the objects and bag in one place. It took a lot of adjusting, and resizing and moving and rotating. I must be a GIMP expert now….but really not. I got very fed up at the end. I then uploaded it to flickr and boom! I had given her an iPhone until I realized that didn’t really fit into her time period, so I decided against that. Her bag really tells a lot about her, and you can see that most of the items are normal, but a lot of them hide very dark secrets about Blair.

The objects were really hard to come up with. I don’t usually carry a purse, so I didn’t know what to put in it. I looked over Blair’s bio, and that is mostly how I came up with everything and their backstory. I love that she is a klepto at crime scenes because it allows me to expand on so many things, and make so many sub-stories. I really enjoy her character, and what I have begun to build with her.

It was a crazy adventure, but I definitely put way too much in her bag. If I ever did this again I would max it at like 4 or 5. Writing about each item became tedious, but I didn’t want to give up. I just got over anxious and really excited about making something meaningful that would relate to her life. Blair has become a part of me (which is a little creepy, but I can dig), and she is like a child right now. I can’t wait to come up with more things and make her story even bigger.

This puts me at 8.5 stars with 1.5 to go! Yippeeee!
(Also I’ve hit my character quota)

Call Me Dora ‘Cause I Got a Backpack

What’s in Jota’s bag?

DCIM100GOPROG0080557.

For this visual assignment, you have to take a picture of what your character would carry in his or her backpack on a daily basis and then share a little info for each item! Jota (My character) seems to be tech savvy and a bit risqué.

A Women Never Reveals The Secrets In Her Purse

Visual Assignment:

What’s in your bag?

This assignment was a must do assignment. However, I found it really fun to do. I ran around my apartment trying to look for things to put in Emma’s purse, and I even got my roommates to help. A good 20 minutes later and this is what we came up with…

Okay, so let me explain the contents of Emma Marie’s purse.

First, we have her pen and notebook. They’re something she always carries around just in case she gets called into her job. Being a forensic technician can mean taking a lot of detailed notes, and she is always on top of that.
To the right of her notebook is actually her Kindle. Emma is an avid reader and tries to do it as much as possible. She can never get enough of the tragic romance novels.Next is her lotion. Wearing latex gloves can really dry out your hands, so she keeps a travel size bottle of lotion to moisturize… and keep the smell of a dead body away.
The brush and makeup should be self explanatory. Every girl needs to look their best at every possible moment. Besides her red lipstick needs to be reapplied every now and the
The rectangular object in between the brush and makeup is a portable charger. It can be used to charge both her phone and her kindle if need be. Good use when you’re always on the run.
The gum helps keep the smell of decaying flesh subdued when she is checking out a crime scene.
Also minty fresh breath is not a downside.
Both the camera and hair ties are also used for her job. The camera to take pictures of much needed evidence, and the hair ties to make sure nothing gets in her hair.
The last thing is her sunglasses. What can I say? They make her look cool.

For this assignment, I set everything up on my desk and took a picture with my phone. I uploaded it through Flickr and then added the media to the post. That was about it. Nothing to fanciful.

What’s In Longs Bag?

IMG_2595

http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/whats-in-your-bag/ (3 Stars)

Detective Longs is quite the creative and unique individual and he shows it even more when you take a deeper look into his life, or should I say his bag..

SU bag: As a detective, Longs either looks nice and crisp in his name brand attire, or he disguises himself as different things to be able to get the task or assignment done more easily. One of his common ones is a cheerleader because people don’t ever expect them to be up to no good…

Bag with money: As a detective, he gets paid for his duties, so he always has a substantial amount of money on him, just in case.

Hot glue gun: This is to represent a gun in the most creative way possible. Longs normally can be found using his hands in order to get what he wants, but sometimes it gets a little more violent and serious as his scars on his body do show, he has never used his gun and it is never loaded, but he uses it to give people the sense of fear and that he gets what he wants.

Papers: These papers are to represent his tasks or assignments given to him by those in charge of him. The locations of which he needs to go to are highlighted and the different colors determine the severity of the situation. The green post it on top of it represents those situations that are serious and need to be taken care of as soon as possible.

Bag of chicken: As learned in the original biography of Longs, due to his heritage and where he is from, his absolute favorite food is chicken parm and since a man has to eat he carries it around in his bag for when he gets hungry. And I just so happened to have chicken parm in my dorm fridge..

Wipes: These are supposed to represent like clorox or a type of wipe to take away the evidence. If Longs steals something back for someone, harms someone or breaks in somewhere he does not what to get caught, so he carries these around in order to try to break down the evidence as much as possible because what kind of criminal wants to get caught for his wrongdoings?
