Who Said What

When asked to combine 3 different but similar spies together for one fantastic meme, you can’t not use James Bond. In accordance with our 1980s theme this semester I wanted to use a James Bond from the 1980s. After finding the perfect image and creating the perfect wrong-dimension meme, I realized the man pictured above is actually Sean Connery from the 1964 James Bond film GoldFinger. I do know, for a fact, that Jack Flack is from the 1984 spy movie Cloak and Dagger. The quote itself is from Daniel Craig, the latest actor playing James Bond and I used Keynote to create the meme. I love a good meme.

Who Said What

This Visual Assignment required me to pick a photo of a secret agent, then add a quote from a different secret agent, before finally attributing the quote to a final secret agent. I saw this as a good opportunity to work in the course theme. Obviously, James Bond came to mind when considering 80’s secret agents but I had to recruit the help of Google to come up with two more. After a little digging and a lot giggling I decided on 3 secret agents. I will let you all tell me if you know what “secret agent” was actually responsible for my quote. Hint: it wasn’t James Bond or Maxwell Smart!

Another One Bites the Dust

Week 2 Daily Creates

I started this week late due to family visiting my home and unfortunate events with my spouse’s vehicle, but when I finally checked in I was stoked to see the inclusion of the daily create. I wanted to participate in them, but it would slip my mind. Now that it is a requirement, I’ll be forced to remember to do them with an alarm on my phone. Here are the four I completed this week followed by the thinking process for each one.

For Tuesday’s submission, I didn’t even have to think a minute before I knew exactly what I wanted to use. I constantly find myself thinking of this moment in the Princess Bride when people say things and I’m pretty sure they’re full of it…so I had to use it for this daily create.

Wednesday’s prompt was simple. I opened the link and used my current location, which was in Jepson waiting for class to start. When class was done, I went outside and snapped a photo of the building with my phone. I then used the Layout app to put them into the same image and posted it.

On Thursday I had time to sit down between homework assignments and spotted my daughter’s colored pencils. I took about ten minutes sketching my map. I didn’t focus on shopping because it doesn’t happen often enough, and the stores aren’t close to each other like in the map used for the demo. I chose to map out my daily travels during the school week. Ironically (if I even used that term correctly), I forgot to add the day care drop off/pick up until I was about to post the map without it on there – even though I was using her pencils.

For Friday’s daily create, I couldn’t figure out a simple way to make her face look painted, so I reverted to the classic hole in the face photos available online and turned my daughter into the form she was meant to be in at this age.

Assignment Bank

After posting Tuesday’s tweet (and telling my husband how
proud I was of it), I started skimming the Assignment Bank. I found some of
them boring, some quite intriguing and some downright tempting to complete.
Overall, I felt intimidated by most of the ones I liked due to my level of knowledge
with the media platforms they prescribed. My husband has a small 3D printer
meant for creating tabletop game miniatures, so I’ll be able to ask him for
help if I want to attempt those.

I decided to follow the recommendation to watch a movie from the 1980s and base an assignment off of it. I watched the original version of “The Bourne Identity” which was released in two two-hour installments on ABC as a television film in May 1988. It was much more consistent with the original novel which I found to be refreshing.

The first assignment I completed I posted on twitter on Thursday. It was “Who Said What” from the Visual Assignments section. In this task you are told to pick an image of a famous spy and combine it with a quote from a different spy, additionally signing the quote by a third spy. I choose the image of Richard Chamberlain version of Jason Bourne, quote from “Eye of the Needle” (another ‘80s spy film), and authored it by James Bond which had multiple movies released in the 80s. I found the image and quote in a google search. I completed the image in what I felt was the easiest way for me. I opened power point, inserted the photo, pasted the quote on it, made the font look acceptable, and then saved the image through there. Posted it to twitter and that’s that.

For the second assignment, I learned a bit more about twitter! I had to google how to do it, but I completed the assignment by creating t thread on twitter! Sorry for all the !!!!s… this is exciting stuff, okay? This “Guess the Story” task, from the Web Assignments bank, called for the use of gifs to tell a myth, folklore, or legend. I decided to complete it but change the directions to fit the 1980s theme by describing an 80s movie with gifs. I started by telling myself to create a limit first and decided that would be 25 gifs. I completed the story in 23. I could’ve done it in fewer, but I really wanted to include specific gifs I enjoy. For those seeking the answer – it was based on The Goonies.

The third task I chose was one of the Design Assignments called Super Tattoo. In this assignment I was tasked to design a tattoo that would represent my superpower or explain what I would do as a superhero. I chose an image I’ve had for a while of Fawkes the phoenix from Harry Potter. He defends people and has the ability of rebirth. I felt like it parallels my service in the Army and my rebirth into the civilian world after retirement.

Weekly Wrap-up

I spent two days during the first week customizing my blog,
so I didn’t really commit much time to that this week. I did spend time
troubleshooting an issue with the code that was preventing me from enabling
comments to the blog posts. It was refreshing to finally resolve that issue and
made me feel like I accomplished SOMETHING productive on that front. On
Thursday I went on a twitter following spree. I added everyone I could identify
with the #ds106 hashtag. I started “hearting” some posts and commented here and
there. I also started visiting other blogs and checking out the assignments people
were sharing. I sprinkled some thoughts and went about my business. There were
still quite a few that didn’t have comments enabled so I couldn’t spread the
love as much as I had planned.

I’m looking forward to what next week holds!

WHERE IS SHE!?!?

In this uniquely fun visual assignment I was asked to pick a movie spy/secret agent type character, pair him with the quote of a different but similar spy type character, and place the cherry on top by crediting the quote to yet a third spy type character. If you know nothing about the movie industry, it may seem like a tough task to find so many similar secret agent types, but you would be wrong. It is an every enjoyable, franchise making style that hardly even needs a plot to be worth watching. This means there is an abundance of such characters, so I have chosen a few of my favorite.

I decided to start with the legend Mr. Liam Neeson from his Taken series. This quickly seemed like an easy pick due to the nature of this scene, which I’m pretty sure is why it is even sometimes used as a meme template. I wanted to follow that up by as iconic of a line as I could, so no one would be caught by this clever ruse. Boom, James Bond. Now who might you say makes the best Bond? Correct, the fictional character Jason Bourne. I’m still unable to figure out why this makes me giggle inside, but it is certainly my favorite photo edit to date.

Who said What?

For 3 stars!

Find a picture of any secret agent you would like, preferably a fairly well-known one. Next, pick a quote from a similar secret agent character. Finally, attribute said quote to a third similar character. You want the characters you chose to be well-known but also similar enough that people would confuse them with one another.

Quote 1: “There are rules.”

Quote #2: “What makes you think this is my first time?”

Quote 1- John Wick

Quote 2- James Bond

What a wonderful quote

When reading this assignment, I thought of the many times I’ve read something that I thought was true but wasn’t. There have been so many things my family or friends took as truth from first sight. I thought of that a lot while doing this assignment.

Base of picture

When I was starting this assignment, I first tried to think of a recent spy. As much as I love serious stories, I loved the funny spy movies as well. So, I thought of picking Melissa McCarthy’s spy character from the movie Spy. I found a perfect picture of her and decided that would be the base of my assignment.

I know the assignment asked for well-known characters, but I wanted to do all related to spies from different times in the movie industry. All the different spies all impacted the communities in their own unique ways. So, the quote I picked was from a movie I watched growing up, from the wonderful Austin Powers. One of the many popular quotes from him is, “Who throws a shoe? Honestly!” When watching the movie, it was one of the many scenes to make howl with laughter. He was such a funny character, and I still don’t understand why he’s not popular now.

Finally, I decided to pick the last character in relation to the 80’s, the theme of this semester. This character, Melina Havelock, was a companion to James Bond in the movie Your Eyes Only, made in 1981. This was also a really good movie, though a lot older than what I’m used to. I did this through a random editing software I downloaded on my phone. It’s not super fancy, but I think it does the trick!

Description: “Find a picture of any secret agent you would like, preferrably a fairly well-known one. Next, pick a quote from a similar secret agent character. Finally, attribute said quote to a third similar character. You want the characters you chose to be well-known but also similar enough that people would confuse them with one another.”

Say What??!

This assignment was a little unusual for me to choose, since I don’t watch many secret agent movies! The instructions for the “Who Said What” assignment were to “Find a picture of any secret agent you would like, preferably a fairly well-known one. Next, pick a quote from a similar secret agent character. Finally, attribute said quote to a third similar character. You want the characters you chose to be well-known but also similar enough that people would confuse them with one another.” Since I don’t know much about any of these secret agents, it was easy for me to get confused!

I started this assignment by simply Googling “secret agent quotes”. That didn’t bring up anything helpful, so I decided to pick three people to use. I chose James Bond, Ethan Hunt, and Jason Bourne. I picked a Jason Bourne quote that sounded like it could have been said by any of them, and found a picture of Ethan Hunt.

Next, used this site to edit the picture. I added the text to the photo and attributed the quote to James Bond. I had used the site before to make collages, but never to edit photos. It took me a few minutes to figure out but ended up being really easy to use. I will definitely use it for projects in the future. I ended up being happy with the picture that I created.

Super Secretly Confused

Find a picture of any secret agent you would like, preferrably a fairly well-known one. Next, pick a quote from a similar secret agent character. Finally, attribute said quote to a third similar character. You want the characters you chose to be well-known but also similar enough that people would confuse them with one another.

Assignment Bank- Visual Assignments

Who actually said this quote? Who is really in the picture? Who is the actual secret agent that the quote is supposedly from?

I’ll tell you who said what soon. I chose to do this assignment because I thought it would be fun to possibly confuse people. The picture might give it away that this quote may not be right. Tom Cruise’s character in a particular secret agent movie series is pretty well known, but how many people may actually be able to match the name to the face? His name very well could be Phil Coulson, and he could have very well said the quote included in the photo.

When I was starting this assignment, the first thing I did was choose three secret agents that I feel are similar to each other and could be easily confused. I picked one of them for the picture, one for the quote, and one just for their name. I did know who I wanted the quote from though, so that was not too difficult. The hard part was finding a quote that could fit all of the characters shown/mentioned. I found it on Rotten Tomatoes and knew it was perfect as soon as I saw it. (BEWARE: If you click on the link, it will reveal where the quote came from and who said it. So if you don’t want to know who said it, wait just a little bit longer.)

I chose my awesome spy-looking font for the quote and put it in a white box to make it stand out. (The font is called Special Elite. I love it!) I spent some time considering where it would be best to put the quote and how big it should be. I am really picky when it comes to how things are laid out in a visual/image that I make.

Now, for the reveal of who said what and who is in the pictures! The spy in the background is this secret agent; the quote is from this other secret agent, and last, but not least, this is the spy who received all of the credit!

Let me know if you figure it out!

Assignment Bank Exploration

DS106 Reacts: Ok so the first one I picked was to make a gif reaction with a caption and story to go with it.

Picture this: You are having a conversation with your friend, your friend is telling you about her new boyfriend, you obviously intrigued continue to listen until she admits…….she’s dating your father……

DS106 Who Said What: This next one relates to the class’ overall secret agent theme? Tell me did this secret agent say this?

DS106 Make a Silly Movie Poster:For my final assignment bank tasks, I picked make a silly movie poster, because what could be funnier!

Keep Your Eyes Open!

For this visual assignment we were supposed to find a picture of any secret agent we would like. Next, we had to pick a quote from a similar secret agent character. Finally, attribute said quote to a third similar character.

I chose this assignment because it would allow me to be creative and also incorporate our secret agent theme. For the picture, I chose Evelyn Salt from the movie Salt, the quote from Mallory Kane from Haywire and attributed the quote to Susan Cooper from Spy. Although I have never seen the movie Haywire, I have seen the trailer to the movie so I had an idea of who the agent was.

I created the photo and quote by saving the photo to my phone, and used an app called Aviary which has a meme option to place words on a picture. I put the quote in and attributed it to Susan Cooper, then saved the photo again, sent it to my computer to be posted in this assignment post!

I enjoyed this assignment because it allowed me to incorporate our secret agent theme and also introduced me to new secret agents that might come in handy later in the semester!
