Here is Wonder Woman checking her many emails on her many laptops.
For this assignment I used Photoshop and two images. The first image is of Wonder Woman and the next of a kid surrounded by the 3 laptops you see:
To make this work, I used the Magic Wand Tool to crop many elements in order to over lay them on the final product. I’m pleased with the results.
What is Aquaman doing when he’s not saving the world from the sea? Well he’s helping out the sea creatures of course! Aquaman loves to teach dolphins in the ocean cool tricks and where best to hunt for food. He keeps the sharks away from shores and leads them to where it is best for them. He even picks up the trash in the ocean just so no animal can get hurt. If you see a beached whale, you know aquaman will be there as soon as possible to bring it back to the waters. He is an wonderful guy and loves to do good things for everyone and everything.
What do superheroes do when they aren’t out saving the world? Well, they don’t call Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman because she is a superhero. She also got her name for how she loves to help out her community. When duty does not call she is at the local elementary school reading to the children.
I made this by finding the Wonder Woman image with a plain white background and an image of children sitting around somebody that was sitting like WW was. I then used Photoshop to remove the white background and I then pasted her on to the children photo. I edited the image in Flickr to give the whole image a similar color.
This was a challenging assignment because it is not easy to find superheroes doing normal things and not kicking or posing. Even though this assignment was hard it was really fun once I found this Wonder Woman image and my ideas starting coming to what she should do.
Deadpool chilling in bed. Doesn’t get more mundane than that!
So I wanted to play around with GIMP (photo editing software) a bit more, so I found a picture of dead pool, erased the background and put him on a bed instead. I’m starting to understand GIMP a bit more, it’s nice to notice myself getting better (even though I still suck lol).
The Life of a Superhero:
This assignment asked me to make an image of a superhero in an everyday life situation. Easy enough right? WRONG. I just want to simply start this off by saying this is the hardest, and I mean hardest, technology-based thing I have ever had to do. I’ll save my rant for my weekly summary, but you have been warned ahead of time. Back to the task at hand.
Had I been any good at using the program Gimp. I would have had a way cooler image to present to you, as I am a perfectionist and wouldn’t have settled for anything less than mediocre, but here we are.
In my image I depict Superman as “Superdad.” Get it? Ha. Ha. Ha. When he is not saving the world or being Clark Kent, he is being a wonderful father to his son Elliot. Elliot is about twelve years old, so needless to say he is going through a rebellion stage. He is being destructive, not listening to Superdad, and basically getting into as much trouble as possible to establish himself as the adult he claims that he is. In this picture, Elliot is screaming at Superdad in an attempt to get his way. Superdad (kind of like how they do in The Office) is just staring off into an imaginary camera and is completely done with Elliot. Stay tuned for more adventures of Superdad and Elliot!
For my superhero photography assignment, I decided to go with “The Life of a Superhero”, mainly because the only other option was the assignment I created. I figured I could handle this using a photo editor and a grocery store stock photo.
It took me a couple tries, but I wound up with:
This was actually more difficult than I expected, because I didn’t anticipate the challenge that would by the physicality of superheroes.
On my first try, I pulled a stock photo of a line full of people at the store (different from this one), and tried to insert Captain America into the line. I thought it would work well, because Captain America was balling his fists, and I could make it look like he was carrying a basket. The issue was, Captain America’s physicality was so different from the tired, slouched man I was trying to replace him with, that there was no way for me to do it without the man underneath being visible.
I realized that I wasn’t equipped to make either parts of that image work, so I found a different stock photo with some empty room at the end of the line. I also found a transparent image of Deadpool where he is leaning the opposite direction of the people in line, which was advantageous for two reasons. 1) I had more freedom in positioning him, and 2) I was able to have him lean against the shelves.
The cropping job still isn’t perfect, but the software I was using, Canva, doesn’t allow me to do a non-rectangular crop, so I tried to get it as close as possible. I think it came out pretty well.
Sailor Moon: My favorite superheroine. Ever.
This series led to my first experiences with online storytelling and community; at age eleven, I discovered the world of fan fiction, I began sketching manga, and even experimented with creating my own anime music videos. Sailor Moon inspired me to test the limits of my creativity and learn how incredible and fun the Internet could be. That’s why she is the subject of my Life of a Superhero assignment.
Using the quick selection tool in Photoshop, I cut Sailor Moon out of her “attack” pose and replaced her magic scepter with trash bags. I used the eraser tool to try and clean whatever pieces I’d missed, and then placed her within the photo of a dumpster. I had to resize her accordingly and she ended up a little blurry, so I used the sharpen tool to fix as best I could.
I just wish I looked this majestic while taking out the trash.
