If anyone has listened to Grade-A Gruesome’s last radio show, you will know that it did not end well for Victor. Was it a conspiracy? Did the other radio hosts plot to kill Victor? There might be few leads, but this investigation is still in the early stages..

Have you ever seen those crime shows that organize a case using a suspect board? Like Scandal or Blacklist? Well, that’s exactly what this assignment is. You will create a suspect board (or a board that connects different characters) to show interaction between the people. Feel free to add text, objects, and locations that connect to the people/characters to develop the story even more. Make sure that the board clearly shows how the pieces are connected, and in your post, explain the story behind it.

An Invitation for Spooksy

I have invited Spooksy for dinner, and I do hope he enjoys what I have cooked up! It has been a little quiet around here now that Walter is gone, but I’m managing! After losing both Walter and Victor almost back-to-back, it has definitely shaken up this apocalyptic Hell that I thought I once knew.. Anyway! I have prepared a lovely meal for tonight! Skewered squirrel for me (I don’t have that big of an appetite these days. That way there is less of me for the walkers to go after..) and the neighbor kids for Spooksy! I told them to be quiet, but I can still here them from the basement! Ugh, those pesky kids.. I didn’t know what type of seasoning Spooksy liked best, so I thought I’d wait until he gets here for me to prepare them. That way, they will be to his liking, and super fresh!

I will have to remember to set the table so Spooksy will be able to use his left hand, since his right hand sometimes gets some phantom pain. I’m not sure if I believe his whole ‘war’ story, but I don’t question it! I’ve heard stranger stories, and I mean, I translate for the undead! I don’t have much room for judging!! Spooksy knows what it’s like to lose people, so I’m hoping that we can bond over that. I also wanted to ask him about his 911 call, after his kids meal got away from him last time. I’m hoping that with the chains I used that they won’t get away this time!

I told Spooksy to bring the beverage for the evening, so I’m not quite sure what that will be. I just hope it isn’t Teen Blood. I’m allergic to that stuff, and I hope he knows it.. It’s not that far of a walk from Spoosky’s mansion, so he should be here any — *DING DONG* Oh, I bet that’s him now! I’m hoping that a visiting friend will get my mind off of the recent events that have transpired..

For 3 stars this week, I created and then completed the I’m having an old friend for dinner assignment! This week we are supposed to integrate another host character into our assignments, so Sally Slaughterhouse invited Spooksy for dinner. Spooksy is the host character created by Mike from the same ds106 class. I came up with this idea when I was thinking of creative ways to integrate multiple host characters in one assignment, but still making sense in a storyline of sorts. The title of this assignment is taken from a line in Silence of the Lambs, where Hannibal finishes the phrase, “… with a nice Chianti and some faaava beanss.” I thought it fit our class theme of horror nicely.

Well I have some nice time away from missions this week, and so I decided to watch the NOIR106 Week 9 video and see if I could catch up on some hijinks, just for fun. Paul and Martha and Jim talked a whole lot about all the works that the students have to do this week (just like every other week) but it was also a fun time to hear them talk about the Hostage Hut Event when I hosted UNCLE @jimgroom this weekend and all the GIFs and peoples Making Art.

It was also nice to hear how well UNCLE @jimgroom was respecting our release-from-Hostage conditions, when he said, “We brokered a deal in the evening, early morning,” and “that was part of the brokering, the negotiations not to talk too much about it.” “TalkyTina did take care of me …” but he did not go into greater detail, even when pressed, which was a True Friend thing to do. But he did seem to have a few words for Martha (who was otherwise occupied during the day) when he said, “I just felt that maybe you could put a GIF out there, maybe you could have been the tenth to save me, so that I didn’t have to negotiate …” But he got out all the same.

I made some notes of what they said during the show, and at the end I felt like making some Art and so it started out being a one screen commercial for our Radio Show (which will be on ds106radio NEXT MONDAY NIGHT AT 9PM) …

… but then it turned into a whole thing of interesting quotes that they said.

I was thinking that this could be a nice way to do a review of the weekly get-to-work video, and then thought it would make a nice assignment. I only thought that at the end, and so I didn’t go back and make mine as complete as I might have (so it doesn’t have enough stuff in it to reflect Agent Paul and Agent Black), but is has some good stuff for you to watch. It only takes about a minute or so because most of the screens are each 5 seconds. Maybe I will make a Slideshare of it (so that you can read it at your own pace) but right now it is just a GIF!

Google Translatin’! 1 Star

For my final star, I chose to do the “Google Translate Fail” assignment. I speak a little bit of French (yay foreign language requirements) and decided to go to french wikipedia and translate that back into english.

So here we go:

“At that time, the troubadours and minstrels asserted more independence opera face the clergy.”

Versus:

“À cette époque, les troubadours et les trouvères affirmaient davantage l’indépendance de l’art lyrique face au clergé.”

I can’t translate that. I speak enough french to be able to read sports reports about Les Canadiens de Montreal, but that’s just above my level. But haha, what? That first sentence makes no sense. Oh that’s weird. I just used google translate for that one line.

I decided to be the first to try the “Three Moon Wolf Stories” assignment from the ds106 assignment database. I remember when the three moon wolf shirt became a little meme on the internet and decided to find other products in the same vein. I had read an askreddit post where they discussed how HDMI cables could be ridiculously priced (I bought mine for $0.50).

Here is the AudioQuest “Diamond” HDMI cable.

I used the X-Ray goggles tool to modify an existing amazon review on the product’s page and just edited each individual part. The other reviews on that page are great as well and I highly recommend you all read them.

4/5 Web Stars down. This is by far my least favorite thing we’ve done this year. Looking forward to next week, though!

Storytelling within the web! This assignment would have been really fun if I didn’t have a massive case of writer’s block when I decided to get down to it. I decided to remix a cnn webpage as if the coming hurricane-apocalypse mix was going to miss the east coast.

That’s just part of the work I had done. I used the hackasaurus X-Ray Goggles tool that was suggested on the assignments page. From there, I just made all of my changes (which were all text). Here’s the actual page. I followed @cogdog’s post for guidance in uploading the actual page.

Please don’t pass this profile up, I’m not very good a talking myself up. Just met me in person… you’ll see… I’m a catch… promise”

This is my good search story about a forty-three year old man named Greg. You can tell by this dating profile that he is lacking self-confidence. He google searches self-help books. Then, he gets the confidence to sign up for a dating website. He finally gets a response and he is looking for good icebreakers for his first date. He looks up direction to the the meeting spot. Things go great! One month later, he wants to give this women something fantastic for the chance she took on him. He google search “one month anniversary ideas” . He decides this women is more than just a girlfriends and he isn’t getting any younger. He looks up engagement rings. After they get married, Greg is excited to hear his wife is pregnant. But what he forty-five , only-child, what does he know about baby’s let alone pregnancy…… thank goodness for google!

The other day I found the Harry Potter Original Sorting Hat! I suppose Wizarding World forgot to spell protect this item from muggles. Now, for the first time every muggles get a sneak peak in the Magic Amazon. Fans of Harry Potter will be excited to know that the Sorting Hat is real and, therefore, so is the Wizarding World! Not only will it sort you into your house by reading your heart, it can conjure the Gyrffindor sword, and it can sort household items like socks. Mrs. Weasley would love this product, think of all the socks she has to sort through (plus they all look a like).

This was a mentally daunting task. However, the “x-ray goggles” is really easy to use and it ended up being extremely fun. With x-ray goggles, you simply just click and edit. When you are done, you click “p” . Select the html source code, then in your blog domain home page, click file manager. Create a new html file, copy over the source code, and you are done. It was fun trying to create something only through alteration.
