The “Create a DS106 Radio Bumper” assignment was to create a bumper for DS106 radio. Since my group mates and I are currently working on creating our own radio show, I decided to do a bumper for that specifically. I created a bumper that I think would be good to play right at the beginning of the show since it introduces it and thanks people for listening.
I created the bumper with Audacity and got the music from freesound.org. I used fun music that sounds kind of like secret agent music. You can listen to the bumper below!
Now that we have a #ds106 radio up and running creating a 15 to 30 second bumper for the station. What is a bumper? It is a short recording that identifies the radio station with signature music or an expression that makes sure the listeners know what they are tuned into (seeĀ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bumper_(broadcasting)). So for ds106 it should certainly include “DS106 Radio” and some sort of message about the station with voice over music.
I changed this assignment slightly to better fit our group’s radio show. The bumper I created is kind of like a concluding bumper for the show. It just thanks the audience for listening and tells them to listen in again next week (even though there won’t actually be another show).
In order to create the bumper, I found a good spy theme song on Freesound and added my voice. At first, I accidentally used the same song as I did for my first bumper from audio week. I decided that I wanted to change things up and use a different song. I found the current song on Freesound and knew it would work out great. I made sure to have music on both sides of the bumper because I feel like it gives the audience more focus on the message. The music fading out on the end makes it easier for a commercial or new show to begin afterward without an awkward jump in the sounds.
I cannot wait to record our radio show in just a couple weeks. I know the show will turn out great and all of the hard work will pay off. I can’t wait to hear everyone else’s radio shows as well!
I chose to make a bumper for one of my 10-star audio assignments. This assignment is 4-stars. This week we are gearing up to create our radio shows, so I decided to create a bumper of my own in order to help better prepare for our radio show.
This radio bumper wasn’t all too difficult to produce since I have had experience doing it before. I simply found a tune that I liked (a secret agent tune) on FreeSounds.org and downloaded it to my computer. I then used GarageBand to create my bumper and added in the music with the bumper. In order for the music to fade out while I am speaking, I had to slice the original sound twice where I would be speaking. I then took that piece and turned the volume wayyy down so that you could hear my voice.
The photo I added to the Soundcloud is my poster I created for our radio show, using a website called Canvas.
Overall I thought this assignment helped in our process of trying to brainstorm and prepare for our radio show on the 15th!
For this 4 star assignment, I did a radio bumper for DS106. I love jazz music so I put it in the background over me and my classmates voice. I thought i’d have some fun with this so I used a very deep voice to make it seem like I was an actual radio host. I also referenced Thursday night Brocks as I always do. I thought this radio bumper was about good vibes as Spring break is around the corner. I hope you guys enjoy it!
Now that we have a #ds106 radio up and running creating a 15 to 30 second bumper for the station. What is a bumper? With our radio shows all up and running, I decided to join my group in creating our own personal radio bumpers! It’s our theory to utilize our characters for the commercials and bumpers, so, here is one featuring my character, Wisteria! She uses a pitch modifier to try and keep her identity a secret, but that only adds to her intensity…surely she doesn’t mean any harm!
I ripped the music from the famous Goldfinger scene, in which James Bond is caught in a trap by the merciless, titular villain, Goldfinger. The music in this scene is a taken of the popular theme, and it reaches a crescendo of intensity by the end that I felt was perfect for the mood of the bumper!
To show off our radio show about female spies, I made a radio bumper!
This radio bumper is specific to the radio show I am working on in my group, where we talk about the portrayal of women spies in media!
To make this bumper, I first got some cool sounds on free sound. Then, I converted a youtube file of the theme song from Totally Spies, which is a childhood show that I used to watch. I put the sounds and music bit to a voice recording where I announce the show on Audacity, and viola! A radio bumper fit for a radio show. Click the link below to listen in!
Overall, it wasn’t hard to create this masterpiece. After you get the hang of Audacity, sliding around sound bits isn’t terrible…but when editing it and having to listen to the sounds over and over….I can’t imagine if I were to do this for a living! XD
For my second assignment this week I created a buffer for my radio show. I was pleased with how this turned out and excited I could incorporate music because the last bumper I made had none and I felt this was a good touch. I decided to introduce the radio as ds106 before I gave it a more specific subtitle just because I feel it gave it a more sophisticated name. I like this class and I wanted to make sure it was known that whoever ends up listening to the show, knows where it’s really coming from. I also incorporated my teammates names because I felt it was important to introduce our characters before we even start talking. I made this recording using my voice memos for easy trimming and cutting and I got the secret agent music theme from YouTube and I recorded from what was playing. This assignment was 4 stars. You can see my bumper below.
Hey everyone, yesterday afternoon I was working on a new bumper for our upcoming show. Today while I was re-reading the weekly assignments I realized I could apply some of my stars for this week to that very task. Because of the fact that I designed the bumper for our you’re kind of getting a sneak peak for our upcoming show in a few days!
The first thing that is noteworthy in my bumper is the static-y, weird, sound interceptions in the background. I got these sounds from a big file that contained many different random sound bites of radio transmissions from outer space (NASA stuff). I took the bites, chopped them up a bit, and then edited them to fade out at the right time. My entire intention of this was to create a spy-like radio interception sound in the audio clip.
The second thing that I wanted to make noticeable in the clip was the 1950s radio transmission. The main point of my inclusion of this was the point to hint on the sheer age of the secret agent them. I’m not sure quite how old the secret agent theme is exactly, but it is undoubtedly something that has captured the attention of the world for many decades now.
The third thing that is noteworthy in my clip is the thing where I mention that we’ll be listening to a couple of classic spy songs throughout the show. Listen to the clip again and see if you can hear the meaning behind those sounds. Anyway, four more stars down! Thanks for reading!
This week while working on our radio shows we had to complete 10 stars in audio assignments. Initially I was nervous because I thought this would get in the way of creating content for my groups project, however after looking at the weekly assignments I was satisfied to find that I could overlap and utilize the work created in my audio assignments for my radio show. Phew! That certainly was a sigh of relief to read.
That being said I decided to create a bumper for my radio show “Girl Power”. This was a 4 star assignment in the assignment bank. Bumpers are used during radio shows at a brief break to make an announcement and ultimately remind listers what they are tuning in to. So with that I felt it would be perfect to create one for “Girl Power”. “Girl Power” is a radio show that strives to promote women empowerment and discuss females within the secret agent theme.
When creating my bumper I relied on audacity to help put it together. I first thought of a song I could maybe use to spice up my bumper and I settled on utilizing a song played in the Incredibles movie. I recorded this song on audacity and then stopped recording when I wanted to begin recording my voice. I then cut in to remind listeners they’re listening to “Girl Power” on ds106 radio. I also added the theme of the show and said that we’d be continuing to discuss awesome female agents like Elasti Girl and Violet from the Incredibles. Hence the importance of the intro and out-ro music. Then the song faded back in and the bumper came to an end with me pressing stop on the recording.
The process of creating my bumper was fairly easily, I feel I have grasped a decent understanding of audacity which made it easy to create. Once I finished editing and was satisfied with my bumper I went to Soundcloud where I uploaded it to my account. I created a cd cover on canva to use for for the various audio I would be creating for this project which promotes our show. I felt this helped display what my bumper was about.
This bumper was a great way to get rolling on our radio show project. I liked knowing I was able to double dip and complete an audio assignment while also helping my group out. I was inspired in a sense my group member Christiana’s bumper, she used Kim Possible as the idea for hers so from there I felt it would be a good idea to keep the continuity and mention another set of female agents while also announcing our show. That’s how I got the idea to use Elasti Girl and Violet. I’m sure these characters are some of the first secret agents we met as little kids, at least that’s the case for me. However, little reminders like these bumpers help show how we are trying to discuss female’s in the secret agent theme.
