Un-common-it

Confused by the title? Me too. I had to take a common object and manipulate the colors a little bit to make it less common… now do you get it? Yea me neither. I was wandering around and I thought hey! what is more common than a light switch? And then I decided to make it uncommon.

I was going to post a tutorial on how to do this but I really just started playing around with the color options in Gimp. Before long I had changed the hues, color perspective, and I even added some color noise. I did more but I can’t remember and never will.

Common Everyday Object!

For this Visual Assignment we were asked to take a everyday object and manipulate the colors.

Inspiration: Since there has been so much hype around the Iphone5 I decided to incorpate that in my photo. I feel like all Apple products have become apart of our whole society. So I decided to take a picture of my Iphone4 and alter the colors in that photo.

Process: For this assignment I just took a photo on my HP Webcam. Then I uploaded I used some Photo Editing Software called PhotoPad Image Editor ( you can download it free online). I changed the color of the Photo to Negative, then I reduced the Saturation, and finally I changed the Tint of the photo to a light blue.

Manipulate Dem Der Colors YO!

Visual Assignment Star-Count: 10

This one was simple but fun.

I simply took the picture, threw it into GIMP and messed around with the color filters for a while. I tried to use the web-based photo editor Pixlr but the website that hosts it was acting all funky.

Common errdayyyy things

common everyday things

In this photo I put together some things I think are common everyday things. I think a phone charger is essential because now a days everyone is using their cell phones as a means of communication. I put my car keys in the mix because I use my car to get around to places and to work. A planner to keep organized on daily things that need to be done. Paper and pencil because we write each and everyday!!

It’s COMMON

The first visual assignment that I decided to do for this week was the “Common Everyday Object“.

Common Markers

I was using Crayola Markers to do one of my daily creates and the idea popped into my head. Markers are used everyday….whether it be in school, at work, or just for fun to decorate and make drawings. This object we grow up with and all kids have a phase, in my opinion it is pretty common. I remember when I was a little girl I used to use markers all the time, I never really liked crayons… they weren’t my thing.

My process began by looking at the site and trying to figure out which assignments I could actually complete. I liked this one because there were so many options and it was pretty easy to pick. I have an iPhone so once I found my “object” I looked for cool apps to download in order to change the color. The app that I chose was the “photoshop express app” which was actually free. I took a picture of the markers I was using on the app and then I just clicked on different effects until I found one that caught my eye. I thought this one looked really cool because there are 4 different colors and they are all very appealing.  I think people can really benefit from looking at all the options online too…. on how to change the color and the different effects. If you don’t have an iPhone, I know there are plenty of apps online as well.

This is my roommates atrocious New York Giants poster.  I used the colorstrokes app to remove the original color, then bring it all back except for the helmet.  Then I used the recolor tool to change the color of the helmet from blue and white to a much better looking burgundy and gold

Flower Power?

This assignment was to take a picture of a common object and to manipulate the colors. This is a picture of a flower I took during a walk with my mom at the beach this past summer. We thought it was a really pretty flower so we took a picture of it! My mom loves pictures of flowers and such, whether it be in the garden or just around wherever we go.

This picture was already uploaded to Picasa so I just went onto the effects section. I clicked Heat Map, which simulates heat vision, and really liked the effect it had on the flower! It gave the flower wild, outrageous, and completely unnatural colors.

I kinda procrastinated on this one, so I took my plaid scarf off that I wore that day and balled it up and took a picture of it with my dumb phone. There honestly is no inspiration to this one but “get it dooone!” Again, this one was two stars.

Anywho, after I emailed the picture to myself I opened up my buddy Gimp. Then I pretty much closed my eyes and slide the color balance things around and hoped for the best. I kinda like it. The white and the saturation is a little too much though. Oh wellll. I kinda like it.

“Every ailment from psoriasis to poison ivy can be cured with Windex”

(I hope you get the reference above. If not, google it, and then watch the movie if you haven’t seen it. It’s got some funny one-liners.)

Common Object

I chose Windex for this assignment because I thought it would look cool to manipulate the color of it. I was right. It looks like some kind of neon, toxic waste. Like if you were to fall into a puddle of this shit, you’d either die or come out a super hero–hopefully the latter. I manipulated (or inverted) the colors by using the free app, Photoshop Express, on my iPhone. Super easy, and fun to use. Along with manipulating the colors, I changed the tint & temperature of the picture a bit (warming it up, and tinting it with a bit of red to bring out the beautiful blue of the windex). The picture above is the result.

Common Everyday object

The Common Everyday object! It took me a while to figure what I wanted to manipulate for this particular assignment. At first, I wanted to take a picture of scissors, but you know I hardly ever use them. So I looked across my desk and choose my very cool UMW tervis water-bottle  this tends to follow me everywhere, gotta stay hydrated. I manipulated the saturation and temperature of this picture using the pic monkey website again!
