Common Everyday Objects

items

I took a picture of some ordinary objects I use everyday, such as sunglasses, car keys, pens and pencils, my iphone, and a watch. Then I uploaded this picture on PicMoney. There is where I changed the color, saturation, temperature and sharpness of the photo.

Common Object, Uncommon Colors

I am big into color changing, so I was excited when I came across another assignment that involved taking ordinary things and giving them different colors. I randomly came across this assignment, so I didn’t have any idea of what object I wanted to do. I am also having a lazy day, so I didn’t really want to move far. I then realized that I till had my sunglasses on top of my head from when I wore them to class. Perfect! So I went ahead and took my picture with my phone and uploaded it onto my computer. I have become quite fond of Pixlr and decided to use that website again. I started trying to crop the back ground out and try some effects, but none really looked that exciting and changed the colors. I then started playing with hue and saturation, but again it didn’t satisfy me. I came across a “wand” type tool that highlighted shadow areas. I had no idea what it was/what it did. So I left one spot highlighted and used a paint brush tool and figured out that when the wand tool highlighted a spot, the brush tool would only paint in that spot too! It was exactly what I wanted. So I played around with these tools, the shadowing, along with a variety of colors until I came up with the perfect mix of all three.

Common Everyday objects

The assignment was to take an everyday object and manipulate the colors.

My original object is a chair in my dorm room. As you can see it is brown and white with geometric patterns. I have a aqua-blue pillow on the chair. Notice how the wall stickers and lamp shades are all in the same color pallet of brown, blue, green, white.

Using photo-editing software called Gimp 2.6, I played around adjusting colors. Making things “coloized’ in a particular hue. I ended up really like how “inverting” the colors looked.

room

“Inverting” the colors means the software detects which color is displayed and, then, swaps them out for the opposite. If you look at a color wheel this becomes more logical. Example: Blue would be swapped with orange , yellow swaps with purple, etc.

I think it is interesting to see what my room would look like if I had chosen a more feminine color pallet with pinks and purples dominating my accents. I also really like the ghostly effect it gives my photography.

This is a 2 star assignment.

Visual Assignment: Common everyday photo.

For this picture I included my desk lamp and planner as well at some mini drawers that I keep pens and highlighters and other things in.  I feel like having more than one object in this picture makes editing the after image more interesting. After taking a picture on my iPhone I then used this free app called Color Photo Edit (it’s a free app in the app store).  Afterwards I then scrolled through the different color schemes and ended up with one called Inverse.  I chose this color scheme out of all the different ones to choose from because to me it’s a light and dark kind of change.

Visual Assignment #5 – 2 Stars

Okay, Photoshop Express Editor definitely gets an A+ from me.  My 5th Visual Assignment was to take a picture of a normal everyday object and alter the color.  What better thing to take a picture of and change the color than a pumpkin!  Here is a side-by-side comparison of the photo that I changed the colors on.  Not only did it change the pumpkin to green, it also changed the fall tablecloth leaves green as well!

I hope that you guys like my picture and I definitely hope that you check out Photoshop Express Editor for all of the Visual Assignments that have to do with manipulating pictures.  It’s definitely the best website out there so far that I’ve found.

Hoops

I took a picture of our old basketball hoop that we were getting rid of and manipulated the warmth and saturation of the colors in iPhoto. I played with the brightness of the photo just a little, too little and you end up with really dark orange and lose the background. Too much and you are blinded by the white of the backboard and can’t see the imperfections and rust.

This basketball hoop was an everyday object for years in my family. It was old, rusted, leaned to one side, and didn’t have a net. Yet, even though it looked horrendous, my sister and I never really cared. That hoop could be hours of fun. Trying to make a basket and running into the woods to retrieve a ball when you didn’t. We spent a lot of time in the woods.

To me, this photo tells of the time spent having fun and the end of those simple times. Where the children grew up and became interested in other things. Instead of looking like summer, when the picture was actually taken, it looks more like late fall. Normally the season where plants are dying, a transition period from sunny and warm to wet and freezing. The hoop is laying on its side, in pieces, stating to the world that it is no longer usable, no longer a source of fun. Therefore, it no longer has a purpose. This photo is of the transition from favored to unneeded.

Assignment: In this assignment called Common Everyday object I was supposed to “Take a picture of a common ever day object and manipulate the colors”

Process: I chose a photo I took a while ago and put it in Gimp,  I selected around the certain objects which I was going to change the color of. I originally wanted to change the color in a more realistic way such as just changing the green of the DS and the headphones into a light purple, but in the end I  experimented with different colors and brush types in order to get some sort of “funky” style going on.

Story: The picture I chose was one I took last summer when I got my new Headphones, I thought it would be a good picture to change up since the colors are so vivid.  Then when it was time to start coloring I was gonna do the regular purple, but then I just let go of some stress from work and went a bit crazy while coloring, and the end result was not so bad and ended up quite interesting in my opinion :P

deceptive perceptions

I had fun collecting the items to photograph for this assignment. Everything in this bucket was sitting somewhere in my kitchen. I chose these items because they were brightly colored and I thought they would make for an interesting color twist. I tweaked the color in this photo by using the invert option in Picnik.

Visual Assignment: Common Everyday Object

For this assignment, the objective was to take a picture of a common object and then manipulate it’s colors for a new effect. For my photo, I edited the colors in picnik because I still have yet to get photoshop working on my computer. First off I took a photo of my stove top because I thought the coils would look cool and I put my camera at a different perspective for a new look. In picknik, I first boosted the colors of the original photograph, which emphasized all the gross stains around the stove coils. Next I did a dual tone effect on top and used a peachy pink color and a gray and then faded the colors so they weren’t so bright. For the final effect, I used a heat map on top of the dual tone which brought out the more of detail on and around the coils.

This is a collage I also made in picnik which shows the progression of the effects that I used on the original photo.

funky backpack

This a photo of my bookbag i chose it for this visual assignment because i always have it with me and cant get to much more ordinary than that ha!

I used the same app BeFunkyFx to create this look and i was very pleased with out the image came out, when i originally took the photo i cropped a lot of the background out, which was my desk, because i wanted the main focus to be the bookbag.
