My first Audio assignment consisted of mashing two distinct songs in to one track, a . I used two popular songs from different genres; one being R & B and the other Hip Hop. The track Bad by Wale uses a lighter version sound featured in Trillville’s hit Some Cut so I thought they would blend well together. The end result can be heard here
I used audacity to import the two featured songs which I had previously uploaded to a music file. I then isolated the beginning and ending portions of “Some Cut” and faded the ending sounds of those portions to first allow the beginning of “Bad” to begin. The second sound portion of “Some Cut” I faded out as the end of “Bad”; a new version to it’s original ending!
In this assignment I decided to make a mash-up of two really good movies I’ve seen a while back. The main base of the Movie Mash-up was Elysium and the mashed parts of the movie was District 9. I mashed most of district 9 in the end of the video, because it felt right to how the outcome looked.
Hi there! This assignment was the Music Mashup (3 1/2 stars), where I took two completely separate songs and put them together. I decided to take Adele’s Rolling in the Deep and Imagine Dragons’ It’s time and put them together. I took the vocals to Rolling in the Deep and the instrumental to It’s Time. And I have to say I had fun with the process but I also think it was a complete fail. I just couldn’t get them to line up so that it sounded decent. I first used the songs beause the both had the same tempo of 105 beats per minute (bpm). I discovered this because this website, the Music Database has a list of all songs and you can find which ones have the same bpm. Bothe the songs were in that same field. So I decided to put those together and see how it came out. For the most part the song sounds fine together but at some point they just don’t match up very well. It just seems like its too much. So overall this just didn’t work out.
Although it didn’t really work out I did learn a lot about audacity! While putting the songs together I experimented with the volume of the separate tracks. I played around with each one until I felt like there was a good balance with the two of them. I also trimmed the beginning to each song so they would start at the same time. I also used a fade in and a fade out so it wouldn’t just end abruptly. Before I decided which songs I was going to use I also experimented with the different pace, tempos, pitch, speed. I am still working with those to see if there is a better way to match up the songs.
Anyway, I hope this isn’t too bad and it doesn’t hurt the ears too much! Enjoy!
House songs are generally pretty easy to mash together so that’s why I picked these 2. I added some effects throughout the songs. In the beginning I delayed the second song a bit. Also No Beef speeds up about 30 seconds in so I had to slow it down a but to match Teenage Crime. I also added several fades to both songs.
Here is what it looks like in Audacity:
And this is what it sounds like (Due to copyright issues, I cannot upload this to soundhoud):
Hiya! This assignment, Movie as Radio (3 1/2 stars), was a lot of fun! We were supposed to take a soundtrack to a movie and combine all of the tracks to create a 10 minute or less. I thought this assignment would be so fun if I did a Disney movie. I grew up as a Disney kid and I knew that I could do my favorite movie. So I decided to mashup the Aladdin soundtrack. I love this movie, and I thought it would be perfect. There is a good mix of vocals and instrumentals to the soundtrack.
So what I did to mash all of the tracks together: I couldn’t download all of the tracks and put them all into the same track, it would just have been way too long, like over an hour. So I picked a few of the instrumentals and I tried to get most of the vocal songs. I found YouTube videos for each track and I converted them into mp3 tracks using an online service called Video2mp3. Once I had all of the tracks downloaded and ready to go I added each one into audacity. After I selected which part of the track I wanted to use I went on the the next track. Finally I compiled all of those sections to the beginning track. This part was tough. I didn’t want to have such a harsh transition from one track to the other, where one track would cut to the next. After all of the tracks where in the place I wanted them to be I went through each section and added a fade in to the beginning and a fade out at the end, this way when the transition happened between each track it wasn’t so abrupt.
I really enjoyed this assignment! I think it worked out well and I was able to learn more about the different effects you can add to your track in audacity. It was a way for me to visualize the movie with just the audio portion. Now I really want to watch all of the old Disney classics again!
One audio assignment that really stood out to me was the So and So’s Greatests Hits. I immediately thought of different bands that I could possibly do for this one and my mind jumped to Imagine Dragons. Imagine Dragons is one of my favorite bands and I thought this would be pretty easy to do. I decided to pick the 5 most popular songs that they have and put them all together. I decided to use Garage Band, which is the Apple version of Audacity to create the mashup. I already had the songs within my iTunes so it was easy enough to insert them into a song. Then I exported it into my iTunes library then uploaded it to sound cloud. Here it is!
For my third audio assignment, I decided to do So and So’s Greatest Hits, which required me to make a mash-up of one artist’s greatest hits or your favorite by them, with the requirements being that you have to use at least 5 songs and it has to be at least 5 minutes long.
I decided to do one of my favorite artists, Panic! At the Disco, as their multitude of music has a wide variety of sounds and would make for some interesting mixing and mashing. Being that I love this band so much, I ended up using 23 songs, and creating a piece that is almost 7 minutes long.
The hardest part was probably choosing the songs and which part of the songs I wanted to use. I did most of this work in iTunes, by creating a playlist and taking note of the time ranges for the parts I wanted to use. Then I imported all the tracks into Audacity, trimmed them, and began to arrange them. This was also difficult, as I tend to focus more on the lyrics than the music, which doesn’t really make for good music. Realizing where there were issues, I tried to smooth some of the transitions and overlays out through adjusting the volume of the tracks or using the fade out effect.
Ultimately, what I’ve created is a hella cool mix of some awesome songs. Sure there are some rough patches where I just couldn’t get it quite right. But there are also some great parts where the lyrics either coincide or contradict each other, which I really love. My favorite part would have to be where “Casual Affair” is overlaid with “Northern Downpour” (around the 5:34 mark).
Here is the list of the song used in order of appearance:
“Ready to Go (Get Me Out of My Mind)”
“The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide Is Press Coverage”
“That Green Gentleman (Things Have Changed)”
“This is Gospel”
“Trade Mistakes”
“I Write Sins Not Tragedies”
“Nine In the Afternoon”
“Mad As Rabbits”
“There’s A Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven’t Thought Of It Yet”
“The Ballad of Mona Lisa”
“Build God, Then We’ll Talk”
“All the Boys”
“Miss Jackson (ft. Lolo)”
“Girls/Girls/Boys”
“Hurricane”
“Let’s Kill Tonight”
“Lying Is The Most Fun A Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off”
So, for my first audio assignment this week, I was going through the assignment bank and I found two assignments that I liked. One was “So and So’s Greatest Hits” and the other was “Storytime! SongTag Style.” So I started doing “So and So’s Greatest Hits” for Brad Paisley. When I was choosing my favorite songs of his to do that, I realized that I could put the songs together like a story. Here is the story that I saw in the songs.
In “Then” a couple meets and falls in love and she becomes his life and his world and they have come so far since the day they first met but he thought he loved her then. And then in “We Danced” he proposes to her. In “Little Moments” they are married and he learns to love and live with all the little quirks about her. And in “Mona Lisa” he says how he is the luckiest guy in the world because he gets to hold her every night. And, finally, as many country songs go, he chooses fishing over her so she leaves him. And there ya have it folks, a classic country song.
How did I do it?
I am super happy that we are using Audacity in this class for audio because I have already used it! So I don’t have much of a learning curve this week. I, unfortunately did not have all of the songs that I needed downloaded on my computer. So, in order to get the audio files I needed, I used this converter and downloaded the files and saved them where I could access them on my computer. I then imported them one at a time into Audacity. After I imported the first song, I would choose the part of it that I wanted to use for my song, highlight the part that I wanted to cut out and hit delete. Then I did the same thing for the remaining 4 songs.
Once I had them all imported and cut down to the parts that I wanted, I worked to make them all fit together better. I faded out at the ends of the songs and faded in at the beginnings. I then overlapped them where they sounded right. With this I had some problems. Even with the audio stopped and having clicked on the “Time Shift Tool,” sometimes they didn’t want to move and I have yet to figure out why. I eventually got them to move but I don’t know why haha. I tried to google it and still didn’t figure it out, but I just messed around with it until I got it to move.
Then when they were overlapped well enough for my liking, I amplified some of the quieter sections so that you couldn’t tell a difference in the volume of the separate pieces besides the fades in and out between the different parts of different songs. And then I made sure I saved the Audacity file in case anything went wrong with the export and I exported it. When I went back to listen to it, it only had the first two sections of songs. Why it did that, I’m not sure but since I was able to save the Audacity file, I just opened it back up and re-exported it. That time it worked.
Here is my Brad Paisley’s Greatest Hits Storytime:
I didn’t put it on SoundCloud because I know it would be removed due to copyright infringement, but here it is, straight to you from my blog.
Once you find the song on YouTube, just copy the link and paste it into the box above the buttons that says “Covert Video.” Then click the “Covert Video” button. The image below should come up. Then, click the “Download” link and the mp3 will be downloaded to your computer. You will then be able to access it from GarageBand.
Once you have done this for all the songs, you can drag the songs from the Media Browser under the Audio tab onto the track.
Now you have a bunch of full-length songs, when you only need snippets of then. To break up a song into segments, you need to use the Split tool under the Edit menu. Make sure the red time bar is located at the time where you want to split the song, then split it.
Do this repeatedly for all the songs until you have all the snippets you need. Then, just use the Record feature (the red circle) to record yourself asking the questions. Rearrange the snippets as needed by dragging them so everything is played in the correct order.
