Summer Nights and Springsteen

The purpose of this assignment was to create a mash up of a band’s or artist’s greatest hits, in your opinion.

I chose to create a mash up of what I consider some of Bruce Springsteen‘s greatest hits. I chose to look at Springsteen’s songs because I had been listening to his songs a lot lately and figured more people should have the opportunity to hear some of his work.

The five songs I chose to create a mash up of were, Born in the USA, My Hometown, Glory Days, Dancing in the Dark, and Born to Run. I did not have a particular order to the songs in the mash up. However, I did start with Born in the USA because I felt a greater number of people would be able to recognize that song whether they were an avid Springsteen fan or not.

In order to create the mash up I used Audacity. I had the five songs in my iTunes library so I simply imported them from there into Audacity. Once they were imported, I trimmed each of them using the Trim tool. Then I proceeded to use the Time Shift tool so one song started when the previous song ended. Finally, I added the Fade In effect to the beginning of each song and the Fade Out effect to the ends,  so they flowed together better.

Here’s the final product.

This assignment was worth 3.5 stars and the link can be found here.

Agent Smith – Greatest Hits

Greetings….fellow agents. Soundcloud still does not like my files this week so I will have to infiltrate their headquarters to force them allowed. it would be a dangerous task. The outline of my detailed plan can be decoded from the audio file below. Agent Smith, signing off.

Greatest Hits!

I was sifting through the audio assignment bank and found this assignment. I thought it would be fun to put together five songs from one of my favorite artists. I decided to choose Edvin Marton. His music is not what I generally listen to but, I am a figure skater and his music is very good to use for skating routines and programs. As such, I used audacity to put these five songs together. In order to blend these songs I used the fade in and fade out effect tools. I did not use the entire songs but just enough of them so the listener can gain a sense of Edvin Marton’s style. The first song is called Tango Amore, the next is Chopin, then his version of Romeo and Juliet, followed by Carmina Burana, and lastly Dark Angel. Hope you enjoy these songs from Edvin Marton!

This audio assignment was worth three and a half stars, adding to the 10 star requirement for this week.

Mashed potat….songs

For this assignment I had to choose an artist and pick at least 5 of their songs and create a mashup, at least 5 minutes long. I chose to do New Politics for this because I’m fairly obsessed with them and it happened pretty quickly…I saw them live and fell in love. So while they are not my all time favorite band, they’re a current favorite for sure.

I used audacity to mix the songs and I started by listening to each song all the way through and then looking for places where I could combine them. If the time requirement was a little shorter, I definitely would’ve chosen mashing points in other places. I played around with cutting and pasting in audacity and actually had a little trouble getting it to work at first, but about 45 minutes later, I was pretty happy with the result. The last two mashes were a little rough to coordinate, but I think they still work for the most part. Hope you guys like it!

Hello Designer Fireflies;

I love Owl City. (I actually met Adam Young earlier this month and I cried) So, naturally, I picked a few Owl City songs for my Greatest Hit’s assignment (3 Stars).

It starts with Designer Skyline from the album Of June. Then, On The Wing (2008 Version) from Maybe I’m Dreaming (my favorite song, though the version on Ocean Eyes is better). Following is a song from Adam’s side project, Sky Sailing, called Captains of the Sky from the album An Airplane Carried Me To Bed. Fourth is Hello Seattle from the album Ocean Eyes. Fifth, Real World from the album All Things Bright and Beautiful (my personal favorite album). A newer song is sixth called Thunderstruck from the album Mobile Orchestra. I threw a track Adam put on his soundcloud called Halcyon in because it’s fun and upbeat, and gives the song about a minute of time. Of course, what would an Owl City mashup be without Fireflies, which finishes out the mashup, though this version is Adam’s remix.

These are not his “most popular,” aside from Fireflies, but these are some of my favorites that go together.

To create this, I had to pick which songs I wanted first. I decided I wanted one from each album, then I picked from there. I sent the files through an online converter, then opened them in Audacity. I grabbed sections I thought would transition well, copy/pasted them into one track line, and then added fade in/out to help the tracks transition easier.

Enjoy!

A Very Tempting Mashup

Years ago, a young boy was sitting on a couch with his grandparents watching a biography about a rather popular group. The boy sat through this approximately three hour long biographical film that talk about their lives and played just about each and every one of their greatest hits. For years to come, he continued to listen to these very songs everyday with his grandparents and when he was gifted his first MP3 player,  the first set of songs he added to it were from The Temptations.  You would think that he would get tired of these songs after a while, but he never did. You can now hear him humming the songs every now again as he heads to class or does anything productive. Who is this boy you ask? Well, you are reading a blog post from him right now!

This three star assignment required me to take some songs that I thought were the best of my favorite band or singer and create a mash up of those very songs. The mashup didn’t turn out that great, but I really enjoyed trying to making it sound okay. The songs that I used were, Get Ready, Papa Was A Rollin’ Stone, Ain’t Too Proud To Beg, (I Know) I’m Losing You, and Just My Imagination. My personal favorite of those five would have to be Papa Was A Rollin’ Stone because how the song tells a story for each of the vocalists and from their point of view.

To create this mashup, I used Audacity to edit the inserted songs. For a majority of it, I used the Time Shift tool to move around and reposition each song  to help them flow a bit better.

The final step before exporting the song,  I highlighted a section of a song and then went to the effect tab to make the end of the mashup fade out instead of abruptly ending.instruct

That’s all the steps I made to create this project, so don’t let the three stars fool you. This assignment is easier than it looks, so hopefully you can follow my steps to create a mashup of your very own!

Audio Story: So and So’s Greatest Hits

For this audio story, I chose to do “So and So’s Greatest Hits”. I was supposed to choose my favorite band, artist or musician, and then choose 5 of their greatest hit songs. With this, we are then supposed to create an audio track with a mash-up of these songs! I really liked this assignment because simply, I love music. And by now, I am becoming more used to using Audicity, so it is easier.

I ended up choosing John Mayer after looking through my iTunes, since it was filled with his name! John Mayer is such a great artist, and I do love his songs. I saw him in concert so this was an easy pick.

First, I imported 5 of his songs onto Audacity. I ended up piecing them where I wanted them in order to create a mash-up. I used the “Time-shift” tool to move them around properly. I lowered the volume for some of the louder songs, and then faded them all out so each song flows into another! It’s a John Mayer masterpiece!

I enjoyed doing this! Each audio story I have made this week is original and I feel very proud after each is done, especially this mash-up one.

Hillsong United’s Greatest Hits, According to Me- Audio Assignment 1018

I chose to do the mashup of one of our favorite musical artists. I chose Hillsong United, a Christian band with roots in Australia. I love love love them and all of their music. I chose 5 different songs, and you will hear them in this order when you listen to my track: (1) Oceans, (2) I Surrender, (3) One Thing, (4) Still and (5) Touch the Sky. Below is how I completed the assignment:

  1. Search for and download mp3 audio files of your favorite artist/songs. I used a website called MP3Juices, where you can search for a specific artist and download the mp3 file directly to your desktop.
  2. Use Audacity to mix/mashup audio files.
  3. Import mp3 files to Audacity.
  4. Trim the selected songs to the desired times you would like to play in the mashup.
    1. Use the “Selection Tool” to highlight the select times in the individual files you would like to use.
    2. After selecting the sections, click the “Trim Audio” button. Repeat these steps for the remaining audio files you’ve uploaded.
    3. At this point, you can move the different audio segments around into a certain order using the “Time Shift Tool”.
  5. When finished, go to “File”, then “Export Audio”. Save as an MP3 file.
  6. Upload to SoundCloud and publish for everyone to listen!

Mia’s iPod Circa 2008

Audio week is back again, and the assignment bank is back in action. This week we are required to do 10 stars, with at least 5 dedicated to our character. While this assignment is not dedicated to Blair, it was still fun and worth 3 stars. The assignment was entitled So and So’s Greatest Hits. The task: There are some bands/musicians/artists out there who constantly make solid songs/albums. Using Audacity, pick a band/musician/artists and create a mash-up of what you consider to be some of their greatest hits. It needs to be at least 5 songs (if you can’t find 5, then they might not be as great of a band as your think they are) and at least 5 minutes, but feel free to go over if the music is groovin’. Upload to soundcloud and introduce us to your favorite band and their songs! Have fun!

Thanks assignment, I did actually have fun doing this. I decided to feature one of my favorite bands from my high school days (and even today) Boys Like Girls. Teenage Mia would be quite excited for this assignment, if you ask me. If you haven’t heard of them, you should look them up.

Using audacity, I took all of the songs I wanted to use and cut them into pieces. I then molded the pieces together to create one solid audio. My transitions could have been better, but overall I was pleased.

It was really hard to pick songs, because I love every single one, but these are the ones I chose off of Youtube

Up Against the Wall

The Great Escape

Hero/Heroine

The First Time

Five Minutes to Midnight

Two Is Better Than One (feat Taylor Swift)

The process wasn’t difficult, but it was time consuming to edit the pieces to somewhat mesh together. It was also hard to pick just certain parts of the songs because all of the songs in entirety are amazing. This assignment pushed me, like all of the assignments do.

At one point, I accidentally deleted a section and couldn’t figure out what had happened. By the time I realized, I was angry and annoyed. I had to re upload one of the songs and recut it (after I had cut it PERFECTLY! ugh. Technology). However, I was able to cut it almost as perfectly again, and then all was well in my life.

I couldn’t upload to SoundCloud because of copyright (which we talked about last week and you can read my feelings on here), so I just uploaded it to my post instead. Hopefully the next sixish minutes will make you love Boys Like Girls just as much as I do.

3 stars down!

Kendrick Lamar Mash-Up

http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/so-and-sos-greatest-hits/

(Three Stars)

This is a mash-up of five of my favorite Kendrick Lamar Songs. I combined his songs “Faith,” “Blow My High,” Ronald Reagan,” “The Recipe,” and “High Power.” I used Audacity to combine them and the split tool to break the songs up. I chose Kendrick Lamar because he is one of my favorite artists and I think he has a unique sound.
