Mashup to Imagine Dragons

One audio assignment that really stood out to me was the So and So’s Greatests Hits. I immediately thought of different bands that I could possibly do for this one and my mind jumped to Imagine Dragons. Imagine Dragons is one of my favorite bands and I thought this would be pretty easy to do. I decided to pick the 5 most popular songs that they have and put them all together. I decided to use Garage Band, which is the Apple version of Audacity to create the mashup. I already had the songs within my iTunes so it was easy enough to insert them into a song. Then I exported it into my iTunes library then uploaded it to sound cloud. Here it is!

Panic! At the Disco’s Greatest Hits (23 song mash-up)

For my third audio assignment, I decided to do So and So’s Greatest Hits, which required me to make a mash-up of one artist’s greatest hits or your favorite by them, with the requirements being that you have to use at least 5 songs and it has to be at least 5 minutes long.

I decided to do one of my favorite artists, Panic! At the Disco, as their multitude of music has a wide variety of sounds and would make for some interesting mixing and mashing. Being that I love this band so much, I ended up using 23 songs, and creating a piece that is almost 7 minutes long.

The hardest part was probably choosing the songs and which part of the songs I wanted to use. I did most of this work in iTunes, by creating a playlist and taking note of the time ranges for the parts I wanted to use. Then I imported all the tracks into Audacity, trimmed them, and began to arrange them. This was also difficult, as I tend to focus more on the lyrics than the music, which doesn’t really make for good music. Realizing where there were issues, I tried to smooth some of the transitions and overlays out through adjusting the volume of the tracks or using the fade out effect.

Ultimately, what I’ve created is a hella cool mix of some awesome songs. Sure there are some rough patches where I just couldn’t get it quite right. But there are also some great parts where the lyrics either coincide or contradict each other, which I really love. My favorite part would have to be where “Casual Affair” is overlaid with “Northern Downpour” (around the 5:34 mark).

Here is the list of the song used in order of appearance:

  1. “Ready to Go (Get Me Out of My Mind)”
  2. “The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide Is Press Coverage”
  3. “That Green Gentleman (Things Have Changed)”
  4. “This is Gospel”
  5. “Trade Mistakes”
  6. “I Write Sins Not Tragedies”
  7. “Nine In the Afternoon”
  8. “Mad As Rabbits”
  9. “There’s A Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven’t Thought Of It Yet”
  10. “The Ballad of Mona Lisa”
  11. “Build God, Then We’ll Talk”
  12. “All the Boys”
  13. “Miss Jackson (ft. Lolo)”
  14. “Girls/Girls/Boys”
  15. “Hurricane”
  16. “Let’s Kill Tonight”
  17. “Lying Is The Most Fun A Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off”
  18. “Nicotine”
  19. “But It’s Better If You Do”
  20. “When the Day Met the Night”
  21. “Casual Affair”
  22. “Northern Downpour”
  23. “Nearly Witches (Ever Since We Met…)”

Bruno Mars, one of my favorite artists to listen to

This is a compilation of 5 songs that were from Bruno Mars’ latest album Unorthodox Jukebox. These are 5 top charting hits that are all on just one album, which shows how good of an artist he is. Many of you football fans may have seen him perform these songs during the last Super Bowl halftime show.

The Stages of a Bad Relationship

I created a story with some of the latest tracks from Avril Lavigne, because I think all of her music is great. I didn’t use any of her early stuff because I couldn’t find it on my computer.

I also didn’t add this to my SoundCloud account because every time I tried, it didn’t work, so I hope this works out. (I found out that the mash up wasn’t going onto Soundcloud because of I used Avril’s Music, so oops.)

The story I’m trying to tell with Lavigne’s songs is about a bad relationship. (This is in no way stating that every relationship is bad or like this, it’s just a story of how some bad relationships work out.)

It starts off with Hello Kitty, which is the beginning of the relationship, the wooing and chasing phase. Each person in the relationship wants to be together and is very excited but they don’t realize how wrong they are for each other.

Then we move on to the confusing and fighting phase, which fits in with What the Hell. This is the part of the relationship where the jealousy and paranoia comes out, even when the partner did actually cheat, the other partner believes it’s worse then it is.

Next is the giving up phase, where neither partner wants to actually take the steps to end the relationship but neither of them is happy; this part of the story is told by Give you what you like. This is where relationship revolves around sex because they don’t want to talk or hang out like they use to.

This is the part of the story/song where the partners only remind each of bad feelings, thoughts, and memories; this is told using How you Remind Me.

The ending of the story is where a partner, it can be male or female, realizes that they can move on and be happy, the ending is given by Lavigne’s Alice. In the ending stage, one or both partners realize that they don’t have to live with this relationship and that they are stronger together than they are apart.

I hope you guys like it! My best friend and I really love Avril’s music, we take turns buying the CD’s when they come out. I finished this before I realized that it could have been 5 minutes long but I hope everyone still likes it. Let me know what you think!

Big Bang’s Greatest Hits

Big Bang is from South Korea and made their debut in early 2006. I started listening to Big Bang in 2007 and immediately got hooked to their songs. Big Bang sings mostly in Korean and I didn’t really understand the language in the beginning. Music is amazing because it is able to break down a language barrier. I started to learn the Korean language and became fluent after studying for several months. All of Big Bang’s songs began to make more sense but the emotion in their vocals bring the lyrics to life. Even a person who doesn’t understand Korean would be able to get a feel of the music just by listening. I combined five of Big Bang’s greatest hits into one track. The mashup includes Fantastic Baby, Tonight, Crayon, High High and Day after Day.

Taylor Swift Mashup

For this assignment (assignments.ds106.us/assignments/so…greatest-hits/ ) I was told to pick my favorite artist, and do a mashup of my favorite songs from them. Well, my favorite artist is Taylor swift, of course, So I picked some of my favorite songs of hers, that I thought would go well together, and i tried to put them together. This was very difficult, I have never really used Audacity before, so this let me get a little better acquainted with it, but I would record one part of a song, pause, then record the others, and so on, then I had to go back through and make sure to edit out the parts I did not want in and the noises that I did not want. I tried to put them together as best, and as smoothly as possible, but it was really difficult since I have never really used this before ! I used the songs: Love story, Mine, Im only me when im with you, and You belong with me. All by Taylor Swift.
This assignment was worth 3.5 stars.

So And So’s Greatest Hits

“There are some bands/musicians/artists out there who constantly make solid songs/albums. Using Audacity, pick a band/musician/artists and create a mash-up of what you consider to be some of their greatest hits. It needs to be at least 5 songs (if you can’t find 5, then they might not be as great of a band as your think they are) and at least 5 minutes, but feel free to go over if the music is groovin’. Upload to soundcloud and introduce us to your favorite band and their songs! Have fun!”

I chose songs from Childish Gambino‘s album Culdesac, which can be played above.

If you aren’t in the know, Childish Gambino also goes by Donald Glover, his government name, whom is an actor in NBC’s Community.

Culdesac can be downloaded in it’s entirety here. Culdesac was released free to the internet, so no worries here folks.
