Audio Assignment – “So and So’s greatest hits” (3 points)

For some reason, Soundcloud uploaded the song, but it doesn’t exist, so I’ll have to keep trying with that. But I basically made a mashup of some of One Direction’s more rock influenced songs using audacity. I trimmed them and added appropriate fade in/outs. I also used different parts of each songs so get some variety so you weren’t just hearing the beginning of five songs.

(Here is screenshot proof the song exists somewhere…but when you press play it says nothing is there)

ahh yes, I have discovered the issue. I may just have to upload the audio to YouTube.

The Queen BeyHive Jive

When searching for audio assignments to complete, “So and So’s Greatest Hits” grabbed my attention immediately. I have always wanted to create a mash-up of songs from one artist, because I frequently go on YouTube and listen to them based on which artist I am in the mood for that day. The assignment states: There … Continue reading The Queen BeyHive Jive

Mash up Chris Brown edition

For one of my Audio Assignments I decided to do the “So and So’s Greatest Hits” which was to find one of your favorite artists/ bands and make a mash up of at least 5 of their songs.

For this assignment I did mine based on Chris Brown, I chose him because he has always been one of my favorite artists. I love his music, I never seem to listen to one of his songs and hate it. The five songs that I picked were:

  1. Run It
  2. Yo Excuse Me Miss
  3. New Flame
  4. Don’t Wake Me Up
  5. Don’t Judge Me

These are just a few of my favorite songs by him, I hope you enjoy this Mash Up that I have created!

Jake Owen’s Greatest Hits

For this Audio Assignment (3 stars),  the goal was to create a Greatest Hits compilation for a favorite artist of ours. I chose to make a collection of Jake Owen’s songs. He has always been a favorite artist of mine as soon as I first heard his music. His songs are always different, but each one contains that signature sound he brings with his deeper voice. He just has a smooth sound. He is very versatile being able to do love songs, party songs, and songs about life in general. I listen to him more in the summer, because he always has great beach and summer songs to get you in the summer state of mind!

To create this compilation of songs I downloaded all the songs from YouTube videos and turned them into mp3’s with the help of a converter. Once I had all the songs I copy and pasted them one by one into just one song track, so they would be played one after the other. It was difficult to figure out at first, because they would try to play at the same time and even if I solely took bits and pieces they would still play at the same time. After surfing the internet I was able to find out how to merge the songs.

System of a Down Medley

For the second of the two optional audio assignments I chose to do So and So’s Greatest Hits worth three stars. When I saw that one I knew I had to do because there are plenty of bands and artists that I could make a five song mash up for. I thought long and hard and decided to choose one of my favorite bands System of a Down. I have been a big fan of theirs for a long while and I enjoy listening to their stuff quite a bit. I still have yet to see them in concert but now that they have reunited maybe I have a better chance at that happening. I thought that a mash up of a System of a Down would be extra appropriate considering their reunion occurred last year or so and am a fan of just about all their music so it would be perfect for me to choose them. I still remember the first time I heard the band, I was probably in 8th grade and I saw the music video for Hyponotize on MTV2 when I got back from school, it was so awesome and I have loved the band ever since that day.

System of a down hypnotize

I chose to compile the songs:

This Cocaine Makes Me Feel Like I’m On This Song

Sugar

Kill Rock ‘n Roll

Hypnotize

Toxicity

I wanted to make sure that I not only chose some of my favorite songs but also songs that would flow well with each other. I also wanted the Mash up to sound like it had a proper ending so I made sure that I used the end of the song of the Toxicity rather a part from the beginning or middle.

Unfortunately I was having issues trying to use a youtube to WAV file converter so I had to record each segment from each song that I wanted from Spotify. Luckily Spotify has all of their music so it was not much of an issue. I made sure to have the sound an appropriate level for recording and recorded each song into Audacity. Once I got the songs into there I fiddled around with the decibels to make sure that none of them were too loud and also cut out any unnecessary sounds that occurred before the song such as the clicking sounded from my track pad, etc. It was pretty simple but I would have preferred if I had been able to get the converter to work because the sound quality would be better, but overall I think that it sounds good and like the way that it came out.

Linkin Park’s Greatest Hits

Original Assignment (3 stars)

I am a huge fan of Linkin Park and there are a bunch of other great songs by them but these five are just personal favorites of mine. Here are the songs in order of how I set it up, followed by the album from which the song came from:

  1. Bleed It Out (Minutes to Midnight)
  2. Breaking the Habit (Meteora)
  3. In The End (Hybrid Theory)
  4. Lost in the Echo (Living Things)
  5. One Step Closer (Hybrid Theory)

I used Audacity to help create this mashup and I basically followed this tutorial on how to cut and paste songs into one consecutive track. I also used this free, youtube to .wav converter to help me convert the songs I selected from youtube into .wav files so that it was compatible with Audacity.

I did snippets of each song except the last one, “One Step Closer”, because I believed the last one is the most awesome one out of the list and one of my personal favorite songs. I began listening to this band at around 2001, which I think was the point where their worldwide success began to come to fruition. I started by listening to their very first album, Hybrid Theory (hence why I chose two songs from that album out of the five for this mashup), which blew me away due to the style and pace of their music. By 2003, their second studio album, Metora had released, and by then, I was completely sold as them being my favorite band at that time. The thing that really fascinated me the most was the transition from those two albums, as Hybrid Theory had a more rock’ish element to it while Meteora had retained some of the “nu-metal” elements and added some distinct instrumentals to it as well.

I was unable to upload to soundcloud due to the copyright rules, so I basically saved my Audacity mashup as another .wav file and uploaded as such:

Hope you guys enjoy!

The Best of Blink

The first audio assignment I chose to do this week was So and So’s Greatest Hits. Due to the fact that I’ve been listening to a lot of Blink-182 lately, I figured they were a perfect group to create a greatest hits montage for. I found it very easy to do this assignment. In my opinion, Blink-182, has so many good songs, that a greatest hits compilation would not be a problem. And in reality, the hardest part of this assignment was choosing which songs of theirs to use, considering they have at least 10 songs that could’ve easily made the cut. But, here’s the list of songs in this montage (in order):

1. Anthem Part 2

2. Dammit

3. First Date

4. The Rock Show

5. All The Small Things

Blink-182_-_Greatest_Hits_cover

I chose this order, because I think it is most important to start and finish the montage with two of their most famous songs. With songs in between that’ll definitely keep listeners rockin out. I know I did not include the full songs, that was because the track would’ve been approximately 20 minutes long, if I did so. I felt this 8 minute period was adequate for this montage. Also, I did upload this track to SoundCloud, but was not allowed to imbed it into my post, due to the track being flagged for copyright infringement. This being because it matches the original song, and SoundCloud prevents copyrighted material from being uploaded to SoundCloud and downloaded for free.

I created this montage using Audacity. It was pretty simple. Essentially I imported each song that I wanted to use, trimmed the song to the ideal segment I wanted, then simply copy & pasted into the desired location. The only other thing I really utilized, was fading out each track to make it flow better, and not abruptly change songs.

This assignment is worth a total of 3 out of 5 stars

Giving me a total of 3 stars for the week. I hope everyone enjoyed this track, and fyi its a great set of songs to add to your workout playlist. Til next time everyone.

My Personal 5 Greatest Hits of Bruno Mars

I once said, “Every girl is beautiful and perfect just the way they are.” I really do mean that. Every time I see a girl, they can either be cute, pretty, beautiful, or all the above. To me when I want to go talk to one while I’m in my car, I’m like:

I’m just kidding. I can’t be such players like those minions. To relate about this to the audio assignment I did, I started off the assignment by putting Bruno Mars song Just The Way You Are. Okay let me explain this assignment, so we could choose any band/artists/musicians and pick 5 songs that’ll be at least 5 minutes. I did 10 minutes and 29 seconds. I chose Bruno Mars and started off the songs in this order well I’ll say only two and you guys can guess the rest since the songs are already famous:

1) Just The Way You Are

2) Locked Out Of Heaven

3) ?

4) ?

5) ?

To do this assignment, I converted from the youtube videos to an mp3 file of the 5 of Bruno Mars song I chose. With that, I imported them into Audacity. When I wanted to split the songs a bit, I went to Edit->Clip Boundaries->Split. I had an arrow that you can move and forth like this <-> on Audacity to move the audio clip around before/after splitting it. Then I did the songs in a particular order: the first introduction of the five songs, then the middle of the five songs, and finally the ending of the five songs. Here is what I did for this assignment:

After doing this assignment today and being sick and exhausted for a week, I feel really good now. I’m basically like:

Hope you guys enjoyed this assignment! Going to keep making more now!

Funk Wit’ Me

My next Audio assignment required that me to pick one of my favorite bands or artists and at least five of their songs to mash. I loved this assignment, it had me listening to some of my favorite old tunes from the funnest decade of my life; childhood! I grew up listening to this band and the artist in this band regularly in my families homes. During some of the most memorable moments in my life; picnics, barbecues, birthday celebrations, July 4th gatherings, and just overhearing the adults having parties from the back room where all the kids usually had to stay during those occasions. Funkadelic, Bootsy Collins, and George Clinton have surpassed generations of the times to become classics in at least the African American community or for that fact anyone who enjoyed the psychedelic, funky, butterfly collar, big hair wearing time period. I hope you’ll enjoy I know it was like a party at my desk this afternoon!

Eric’s Greatest Hits All-in-One

So and So’s Greatest Hits

For So and So’s Greatest Hits I chose to create a sound clip collage of Eric Church’s best 5 songs. For the specific songs I chose, I chose them because I questioned about 10 different friends, asking them about what songs they would choose as his best songs, and these were them. I also couldn’t agree more because all of these songs could be played on repeat for days and I would never get tired of listening to them.

To complete this recording, I used Audacity and YouTube. After I came up with the list of songs, I listened to each song and picked a snippet of each one to use in my greatest hits sound clip. I recorded Love Your Love the Most, Smoke a Little Smoke, Drink in My Hand, Springsteen, and finally Give Me Back My Hometown. In between each song, I put a verse with just the words, “Yeah, yeah” from Give Me Back My Hometown to give it a little more uniqueness other than just going from song to song.

Now for the reason I chose Eric Church is because I went to see Kenny Chesney in concert last summer, and Eric Church was one of the opening acts. Well, in my opinion, Eric Church blew the concert away. Don’t get me wrong, Kenny Chesney was amazing, too. But, Eric Church engaged the crowd in his music and brought the concert alive. His voice in person is just as good, if not better than in any recording.
