Make your own radio commercial: Kan Jam

The product I am selling is the game of Kan Jam. It is a game that has recently become the addiction of all my friends and I, so why not promote something I love. I made a script for it and rather than trying to do too much to the video, I just provided the product with some great activities or positive outcomes that come with playing the game. I tried to keep their attention by catering to things we as people love to do, have fun and win. I did this through audacity and this put it through my soundcloud account. The make your own radio commercial assignment is 3 1/2 stars.

Spymate Commercial

This was a fun assignment. I enjoyed making this commercial and I think it will go well with our radio show that has a sexspionage theme. So I decided to create a commercial about a spy dating website where you can find fellow spies that are looking for a relationship or just a date. I took a sound clip of some kisses and a clip of a person singing “love me” and then recorded my commercial. I hope to use this commercial in our ds106 radio show. This assignment was intermediate in difficulty because working with sound is a challenging task. But I had fun doing the assignment. Who knows maybe Spymate will be a real website one day.

“Malicious StopGate” Malware Commercial

For this 3.5 point audio assignment, I was instructed to create a commercial, preferably for my group’s DS106 Radio show on Sexspionage. Since my own secret agent character, Wren Wilder/003, is a fan of technological security, I decided it would be fitting for our station to promote malware and ransomware protection through security software such as the fictional “Malicious StopGate” software. I wrote a script, recorded the audio delivery until satisfied, and blended the software promotion with keyboard and synth sounds to complete the commercial.

I found this assignment intermediate to difficulty, with the creative aspects of it simply requiring a bit of extra time to creatively flesh out my commercial’s Call to Action (Often referred to in speeches as the ending phrases which call a listener to undertake a particular action, in this case purchase or research the software further). I found this assignment particularly fun to create.

Aqua Living Ad

I took on the Make Your Own Commercial! assignment worth 3 1/2 stars. I was flipping through at random and found this one and since I had just completed the radio bumper assignment I thought it would be fun to stay on a trend.

For my radio commercial I decided to advertise for a fictional company that sold underwater real estate. You know homes underwater. I got the idea because I was in my room and my fish tank was bubbling super loudly and so I put the two together. At first I was going to record in my room with the background fish tank sound thinking that would add to the underwater housing effect. However it ultimately just made the audio difficult to hear and not very pleasing to listen to so I scrapped that idea. Next I had to figure out what I was going to say I based most of the language off of what I could remember of housing commercials. I also included a part where I gave a bunch of information quickly because doesn’t every radio commercial have that towards the end? It took my quite a few takes to not trip over the words when I spoke them. (I tried just speeding up the audio but I felt it sounded too distorted and unnatural.) I used Audacity to both record the clips and to play around with the timing to make them all go together as best as I possibly could. The room I recorded in had a small air system noise in the background that I mostly got rid of but what was left gave a hollow feeling. Which I actually felt was kinda cool creepy though it was super faint.

I wanted to add more to it then just my voice though and so I went and found some background music that I added behind my voice. I made sure it was Public Domain before using it and turned it down so it wouldn’t over power my words. Overall I am pretty happy with how it turned out.

“It’s the logical thing to do”

As I was reading “A Logic Named Joe,” I thought there should a marketing campaign to promote this product. I thought of a commercial jingle:

For anything you need to know
You can ask Joe!

and I can hear it in my head, with the canned music and the chorus of voices that does a million other commercial jingles. I don’t have the talent to sing or to do the right music though. I looked through the Audio Assignments, and found there was an assignment, Make Your Own Radio Commercial! that aligned with what I wanted to do! Saved me the trouble of writing one.

I went to CC Search to find some appropriate Creative Commons licensed music I could work with. After a few false starts, I looked for “happy” and found Morning Sun – Free Happy Background Music from Nicolai Heidlas Music. I thought that would work as background music, and I could do a voice over. So I came up with a script:

Do you have perplexing problems in your life that get you down? Sure. We all do. But help is here. Meet Joe – the next-level logic from the Logic Company. Any ordinary logic can tell you what, but Joe will tell you how. And all your troubles can be solved, just like that – logically. Call the Logic Company today. 1-800-LOGICCO. Get a Joe of your own – it’s the logical thing to do.
Use only as directed. Rules of logic may apply.

I opened up my download of the music in Audacity and recorded the voiceover. I had to play with some levels and amplify my voice a bit, and I applied a fade-out at the end. It’s silly, but it came out okay, I think.

I can hear the beats….

For todays audio assignment (4 stars)I created a commercial for the radio. I created this for my final assignment. So far created 5 (4 star) assignments is pretty rough, but I have managed to weave a better story because of it.

To start this project  by going to  Freesound and searching using the word “Beats”. I was looking for a beat just to be my voice to so it would really sound like a commercial. When I got to the web page with the beats on it I listened to a few but picked the best one off that page. I then downloaded the beat to my computer.

Then I opened the application Audacity (as you can see I have been working very hard on taking pictures of the steps I go though for previous projects)

To get the sound imported to Audacity I went through the process of open> then searching for the file to upload it to Audacity.

As soon as I hit the open button it was imported to the application. After that beat was imported i started the process of adding my voice. In this application to record a voice all you have to do is press record so I did that. I then figured out that it was probably better if I planed out what I had to say. So, on an envelope I first wrote “Come share in an adventure of a life time as we discover under the sea creatures of habit new discoveries such as the fly-dolphin and other rare mammals all at the Baltimore Aquarium for more info call 582-88-9234. I then tired again to record my voice so that it would end by the end of the beat but it did’t work, I tired just trying to speed up my talking that did’t work either. I was forced then to shorten what I was saying  I took out useless phrases like “Come Share”  and “of habit” I then added “Come have a” to the beginning. This actually worked better even though I still had to say it quickly. Finally, it worked and I was able to move on to the next step of saving the file and uploading it up to sound cloud. Saving the project was easy I went to the drop do File>Save As and then used the prompt.

After saving it to my computer I uploaded to Sound Cloud. I then found out that I had the wrong file extension because I had trouble uploading it so I pulled the Audacity program back up and the I pressed file>Export  and exported it to a mp3. Then I repeated the upload process on Sound Cloud

This project really does’t hold any meaning really. It belongs to my story about a flydolphin, the only thoughts about this is that I probably need to be more careful about the mistakes I make. Mistakes can cost time which is precious especially when your trying to get a project done on time.

Audio Assignment – Make Your Own Radio Commercial!

Our radio show needs commercials as part of the requirement. Problem is, with the advent of Netflix and Adblock, I can’t really recall the last ad I watched or listened to. I went back to those classic infomercials, and tried to emulate that style. The music isn’t exactly fitting, but it was the best I could find without paying money.

I wrote out a script that was supposed to be my character, Luke. He’s a wanderer, so he has to take any job he can get, even if that includes recording advertisement. I added music by Alumo, which you’ve probably heard before, lowered the volume and put it in the background. Gotta love Audacity, it’s one of the best programs I’ve used, and it’s completely free.

Quality Cards

For this assignment, I decided to make use of the fact that since I need a commercial for the radio show, I might as well get some stars for the week making one. I have mixed feelings about the final product. Probably some of that is due to the lack of copyright free music that I can use. Maybe I need to acquire some musical talent and make my own…  Also, I tried to make it sound like the spoke person and the commercial announcer were different people, but I don’t know that I modified my own voice to really sell that. It was difficult to do without making my voice sound unnatural. To create the project, I found a song on freesound.org, looped it in audacity, they set about recording a few takes of the script I had written. I used a tutorial on youtube about how to improve the quality of my recording, the success of which I am still up in the air about. Then I cut, edited, refined, and re positioned tracks until it was all in order, and I uploaded it to soundcloud.

Rodeo Radio Commercial

This post was not too difficult.  I was able to also embed the song pretty well into this post.  It was the song “Traveller” by Chris Stapleton.  I also had my script all written out.

Where I struggled was the editing of the sound its self. I was having trouble making it flow when trying to make a couple corrections.

Buy saddles today! Radio commercial

Used Audacity alongside a script to make a radio commercial themed for the old west for saddles. I took Aerosmith’s “Back In The Saddle” and using Audacity looped the intro until the very end of the commercial at which point I added the fitting vocals from the song.
