DS106- Album Cover Remix

Original Assignment Link

THE ASSIGNMENT:  The assignment was to f ind an iconic album cover and remix it to represent a something different.  It could be a play on the title, image, genre, etc.

THE PROCESS:  I went online to find cartoon characters to match the description of what I was going to drawl.  Once I found the perfect one, I began to sketch the idea for this iconic album cover.  When “slim” and “shady” were finished I then began to drawl the name tag, in order to tie the cartoons together.  I then took a picture of my drawling and uploaded it to my WordPress blog.  Not very hard to do, but very time-consuming.

THE STORY:  As soon as I read about this DS106 assignment, only one album cover came to mind, and that album was Eminem’s album the  Slim Shady LP.  I grew up listening to this CD and thought it would be fun to re-create this album in my own way.  I wanted to make it seem as if “Slim” and “Shady” were two people, coming together to form a music group.  I chose their characters to match their names as well. “Slim” is designed to be some slim guy, and “Shady” was designed to look like a shady guy, when I was finished I wanted to tie it all together with something Eminem’s real album.  I then found a picture of a name tag from Eminem’s first hit single “My name is,” and decided to make that the center of the Album cover.  I could have just went on the internet and put these images together in Photoshop, but I thought that it would take away from my own personal creativity that I wanted to add.  In the end, I was very satisfied with the outcome of this project.

Here is the original album cover, along with the original cartoons:

DS106 WARNING

Original Assignment Link

THE ASSIGNMENT: The assignment was to create a warning label for things that exist only in movies or your imagination.

THE PROCESS:  The first step was to find a generic fire exit sign from the internet, and download it to my computer.  I then modified the image in a program called Gimp.  I cropped the top part of the sign and deleted it, then, used the lettering tool to create my own personal warning sign.  To make it look more official, I found a picture of a brick wall online,  saved it, and created the brick wall as a background layer in Gimp.

Here are the original pictures:

Picture links: Brick Wall, Fire Exit

THE STORY:  I know the original assignment was to create a warning sign for something that happens either in movies or in your own imagination, but I chose to design a warning sign for something that may happen in “real life.”  I believe that social networking is becoming a major issue in the world, and created this warning sign to raise awareness to this “social problem.”  Imagine that you’re in a burning building and have 10 minutes to evacuate before the building collapses, (maybe not you personally) but I can guarantee that someone would want to log on Facebook or Twitter and share this tragic event before thinking about their own personal safety.  This is a PROBLEM people, always be tweeting, but don’t endanger yourself in the process.

DS106- Dream Car

Aston Martin One-77

Image Link: One-77

Original Assignment Link: CAR LUST

THE ASSIGNMENT:   Take a picture, or find a picture on the web of a car that you love. Then, write a description of how that car makes you feel. This combines the visual of a car, with the story telling aspect, of how the object makes you feel.

THE PROCESS:  I found this image on Aston Martin’s production website, saved it to my desktop and uploaded it to my blog, a fairly simple process, although it took me awhile to find the perfect picture.

THE STORY:  The Aston Martin is, in my opinion, one of the hidden secrets of the car industry.  Everyone that has ever seen a James Bond movie has seen an Aston Martin, but not many have actually seen these cars being driven in their hometown.  There is a sense of style and class that this type of car has that no other car in the world can achieve.  I chose this car because I think that it fits well with my personality, not because I think that I’m James Bond, but because I feel that this car was designed for people who have the same sense of style that I do.  Ferrari’s and Lamborghini’s are too extravagant, they bring too much attention to the owners, and are used as a tool to “show off” the amount of money that the owner possess.  Mercedes and BMW’s are very nice cars, but everyone owns a Mercedes.  So, if you want to own a car that is different, classy, and doesn’t drawl too much attention; there’s only one choice (in my opinion), and that’s the Aston Martin.  However, they are expensive cars, but everyone has a dream, and this is my dream car.

DS 106 Assignment “Really Reality TV”

Concept: We find that the reality shows and documentaries are interesting because they are not totally made up.
Every single body on this earth must have a story to tell. Life is just like a reality show, everyone is an actor.                          No matter    he or she likes the

Warp Space

I’ve routinely been in contact with a group of extraterrestrials called Rigelians. They’re from star system Ceti Alpha Six. They chose me for trial experiments in the implantation of inter-dimensional communication devices in  human brains for when they come to conquer Earth (don’t tell anyone). At first  I was unwilling to have my brain experimented on but they changed my mind. Heh. Any how, I’ve gotten to know these visitors pretty well. They’re good people. One night they had me aboard their ship in geosynchronous orbit. They had let me  wonder around the ship after a series of painful electro attenuation calibration checks when I happened upon a transparent aluminum window. It was the first time I saw the Earth from space.

It was pretty awe inspiring. Then the alien scientists that had conducted my brain calibrations came around to see me off to the matter teleporter for the trip home. I’ll call them Ben and Carl because their telepath names are unpronouncable.

“Yes, it is nice. We love E-arth. Seven billion humon brains ripe for scientific experimentation. We Rigelians love our work, you see.” said Carl.

“Hey Ben, how fast can this ship go?” I asked .

“10^18 times the speed of light”  Ben replied telepathically.

“I like to go fast! Lets go real fast!” I said.

Ben said something about how I couldn’t because of the limits of the conscious human mind against the unbearable forces of time-space dilation and how his species had spent generations genetically engineering themselves to withstand it, or something. But I wanted to go real fast!

Later, in Warp Space…..

AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhh h h h h h h h h h h ho o o o o o o o o o o o o . . . .

My disembodied consciousness became an unending torrent of insanity and fear. I swam through colors I had never seen before. I saw all creation in its unending cycle of death and rebirth. I reached a place of nothingness, profoundly vast emptiness, well beyond all human conceptualization.  Once the ship came out the other side of the warp dilation’s event horizon, I opened my eyes and said “. . . . o o o o h h h h AAAAAAAA!! Oh God, yeah, wow, um, you guys were right. I shouldn’t have done that.”

“But we have to take you back” Carl said, as he re-initializing the theta matrix compositor.

“No, waiiiiii i i i i i t t t t  . . . . . . . “

This was the writing assignment “Your DigiArt Tells a Story,” to use an art application like MSPaint to make some pictures and then write a story that goes along with it. I made a neat picture in Gimp of a view of the Earth from orbit with the moon and a sunset. Then I thought I’d talk about the time I was hanging out with my Rigelian friends.

I made these images mostly through Gimp. It was time consuming. I made generous use of the elliptical tool; the earth, the heads, the moon and the window were elliptical tooled with some different colors. The computer displays were made with the rectangle tool. I hand drew the bodies and Japan with the mouse. For the sunset picture I used the gradient tool to make a kind of twilight effect. Then painted some yellow and pink in one corner and smudged it around with the smudgin tool. I did that for the clouds too, I painted some white around then smudged it up. The stars are just white airbrush spots.  For the window picture I copied it twice and change the text in it. For the warp picture I used Youpaint, which is a drawing program for kids that came pre-loaded on my desk top. I wish I had started with Youpaint from the beginning! I hand drew the picture, all except for the stars and space rain drops. Youpaint had a little stamp tool with some of that stuff so I threw it in there. I stole the spaceship out of Youpaint and put it in that one orbit shot that I made with Gimp. The Youpaint ship looked a lot better than the one I made on Gimp, is why.

Feb. first ds106 assignment

Flo Rida – Good Feeling

For my first assignment I did the “The Big Hip Hop” assignments in the Design Assignments. The instructions were

Take any photo from The Big Picture  and overlay it with lyrics from a Top 100 song. Similar to The Big Caption project.

Process: I first went to the website and found a picture that I found to be very beautiful and then I went to the billiaboards top 100 chart and looked at few songs and found the “Flo Rida – Good Feeling” to be just the music I liked. I went to google and found the lyrics and on Paint I posted the words into the pictures.

I also put in the music video if people want to listen and watch the music video or just want to sing along wit the lyrics!
