Border War Update

Dallaustin, Texas

Paranoia and desperation are running through the American South. Since the start of hostilities with the Republic of Mexico, tens of thousands of Southerners have been displaced. The refugee situation has worsened in the Mid West and Northern states since the advance of the Mexican Republican army over the Texas border.

US President and former Texas governor George Hernandez  stated in a national address today “Texas is my home and an indispensable part of these United States. The battle is not over and she will not be lost.” He added in his colloquial manner “Y’all don’t mess with Texas.”

The Texas megalopolis of Dallaustin has become the frontlines of the conflict. Hyper sonic bombers and mechanized Army troopers have been strategically redeployed to Dallaustin and other cities in the southern United States for operations against Republican forces.

Since Mexico’s full industrialization and recognition as a first world nation 40 years ago, US intelligence reports indicated that it was mechanizing shock troops in secret to match the technological level achieved by US and Chinese forces. Sightings of power-suited Republican soldiers have been confirmed by US Army Headquaters here in Dallaustin.

New intercepted intelligence suggests that the servo mechanisms used in the Artificial Articulated Limb Reflex Systems (AALRS)  of the Republican suits are copies of the Chinese version. The revelation of the possesion of such advanced robotic technology is startling to US forces as they believed only America and her ally China had been able to develop nano-mechanical bionetic tissues.

With US and Republican conventional forces so evenly matched, the fear of nuclear exchange grows larger. The US and Mexico hold the largest nuclear arsenals in the world.

This is the Wiki Game assignment. You pick two random words that will start and end some sort of written article of your choice. Starting on the first word’s wikipedia page you click on links in the article until you get to your finish word.

I went to watchout4snakes.com, which has a random word generator. It gave me “paranoia” and “mechanical.” Starting on the “paranoia” wiki page, I clicked the link “colloquial.” Then on the “colloquial” page I clicked “y’all” and so on. My words in total were:

paranoia/ colloquial/ y’all/ southern United States/ industrialization/ mechanization/  servo mechanism/ robotics/ mechanical

It was fun to find the words and I thought it would take a long time but it was about ten minutes. Once I had my word collection, I decided to do a kind of war report set in the future.

I was inspired in no small part by George Friedman’s book The Next Hundred Years where he tries to forecast the future.  He bases alot of the premise of the book on how geography determines international relations. He proposes that the North American continent is the center of gravity for world politics because it straddles two oceans. Sea power is required for world power as demonstrated historically by Britain and Rome. So who ever controls North America can control the sea and dominate the world. But will future control reside in Washington DC or Mexico City?

What people think Americans at TUJ do.

Create a “What People Think I Do” meme. This can be done for a very broad range of subjects so be creative!

My first meme, I believe I’ve went over to the dark side.

But I kind of liked it.

I began the process of creating this meme through a bit of brainstorming, whatever could I create a meme about?  I settled on TUJ in general, but only through my image searches did I decide to focus on Americans at TUJ (though I think it applies to all students, for the most part).  The next step was to decide the opinion groups for judgement.  These changed a considerable amount throughout my image hunt.  For example, the ‘What I think I do.’ was intended to be what ‘My friends think I do.’ while the ‘What my friends think I do.’ was going to be ‘What American society thinks I do.’.

So, I began the great image hunt.

What I really do.

Commuter Trains in Tokyo

What I think I do.

Gwen Stefani with Harajuku Girls

What my professors think I do.

Tokyo Nightlife

What Japanese society thinks I do.
PETA protesters in Japan

What my friends think I do.
Regular cosplayer in Akihabara and author of the Otaku Encyclopedia, Patrick Galbraith as Goku.

What my parents think I do.

Traditional tea

The funniest part of the image hunt was searching for the ‘What my professors think I do.’ image.  I initially did a google search of “Gaijin Drunk Roppongi” with hopes of finding a suitable image, but was instead was able to find the ‘What Japanese society thinks I do.’ image instead.

I did not think to use the meme generator, so I instead used Pixilar.  With just a black background, I cropped, resized and arranged the images with their appropriate captions.

Hope you get a laugh out of this!

DS106-Sunset

THE ASSIGNMENT:  This assignment was to take a picture of a sunset.

THE PROCESS:  I decided to use one of the pictures that I’ve previously taken of a sunset, and then uploaded it to my WordPress page.  I then explained why I chose this picture, and the significance that this picture had on my life.

THE STORY:  This is my all-time favorite picture of a sunset.  It was taken in 2007, during the time that I’ve spent in Iraq.  Many days while in Iraq were spent constantly working with little rest, and little time to relax.  Stress began to build up over the months, and there was little that one could do in order to release that stress.  I began to take pleasure in the “little things” in life that many take for granted.   This picture for example, is one of those “little things” in life that helped me to relieve stress and relax a little bit.  In my opinion,  Iraq had some of the most beautiful sunsets that I’ve ever seen in my life.  There was rarely any cloud coverage, so when the sun rose and set, it would cause the sky to light up in various colors that would stretch out in the sky as far as the eye could see.  This picture is actually not a very good example of what I am talking about, however, it was chosen because of the way the sun is hitting the palm trees in the background.  I hope you enjoy this picture as much as I do.

                         @LayzLay comments:  Enough said brother….

THE ASSIGNMENT:  The original assignment was to use the Twister tool from ClassTools to create “fake”  Twitter accounts to attempt to re-create the voices of past figures, and imagine how they would express themselves in twitter.  Then,  recast a historical event with a new plot line,  but making it a back and forth between two figures.

THE PROCESS:  The way I decided to do this assignment is a little bit different…………
As I was going over the original assignment, I decided to incorporate my own personal ideas,  seeing this as a good opportunity to be creative.  Instead of only using past figures, I decided to find famous quotes from people in the past and  present, and use that as a basis for these twister pages.  I then created “fake” Twitter accounts on Twister for the people who I am quoting, and used their quotes to make it seem as if they tweeted it themselves.   I didn’t like the way that the Twister page set this up, so I  re-created the information   in a way that makes it seem as if I am the person commenting back on their tweets.  If you click the link below the pictures it will take you to the original twister pages that I’ve created for each quote.

THE STORY: I saw this as a great opportunity to comment on some of the famous quotes from the past and present, and voice some of my own opinions.  It was meant to be funny, although, some may not understand my humor…anyway enjoy!

Extraordinary Picture!

Hello! This is my 4th Ds106 assignment for this section. I decided to finish this section off with a visual assignment because it is my favorite category! The directions read…
Take a friend and turn him/her from a normal looking person to an extraordinary looking. Put the shots side by side for comparison.

For this activity, I decided to use an old photo of my friend and edit it. I was an art student through high school so I had a bunch of shots of my friends posing as models for me. This is her “normal”.
First off, I decided to crop the photo to cut out the bottle and shower curtain on the side. Then I uploaded this photo onto Picnik (Editing Website) to change the colors on the picture. I used an effected called Duo-tone and made the whole background pink I gave her lips stand out by using red! I also adjusted the sharpness of the picture too. This is how it turned out!

Since I had so much fun editing this picture, I did another one!

I also used Picnik for editing this photo. I used the boost effect and made my brush thin and made it look like there were light beams going across/behind her. I also darkened the edges to make her stand out more and turned up the contrast.

I really enjoyed this assignment and recommend this because after you’re done editing you can give the photo to your friend and for me, one of my friends even used it as their profile picture on facebook :)

Google Maps Story

This is the assignment taken from Web assignment.

Instruction says: “Use Google Maps to tell a story! It can be the story of a trip you took, a trip you would like to take, a strange occurrence, a war, anything you like! The only rules are that you have to use Google Maps proper in order to tell your story, and post it here. For a much fancier version that predates mine, see: http://www.wetellstories.co.uk/stories/week1/”

ok, I would like to introduce around ‘Minatomirai(??????)’?area as a Google Maps Story.

I live in Yokohama and Minatomirai locates close to my house, so I walk around there when I have a free time .

You can see 3 red points in this picture. I am going to show pictures which was taken around this points.

point 1
there is a ‘Onsen(Japanese bath)’ at point 1, this is one of my favorite place because you can see Ferris wheel from bath room.?here is the wed site.

This is really cool.

Point 2
There is a shopping mole, ‘TOC???????‘ at point 2. this building has been built in 2010.
And 6F and 7F are the area of restaurants and a view from restaurants is beautiful.

Point 3
There is a another shopping mole, called YOKOHAMA”WORLD PORTERS” before TOC has been built, I used to go there.

reason why I have chosen this assignment is as I mentioned, Minatomirai is my neighborhood, so I hope you will be interested in Minatomirai area!!

by the way, I did not know how to do Print Screen.
I am using Google Chrome and finally I found out ‘awesome screen shot’ (Web site.) this is available for firefox and safari too.
so, I used this. This is really easy to do screen caption.

Wait, where’d that guy come from?

Wait, where’d that guy come from?, I have chosen this assignment from Design Assignment.

Instruction says : Photoshop someone(s) (or something(s)) into a picture that isn’t supposed to be there. Here’s the original inspiration for the project: http://www.zonaeuropa.com/20110629_1.htm

I really love ‘Shaun of the Dead’ and when I see this assignments, this idea came up first, so I made it.

I Just rememberthis video.

Step:

those are the original pictures.

taken from google search.
those looks similar.

I used Gimp2, I cut off the unnecessary area of Michael Jackson’s picture and paste it on the picture of Shaun of the dead. and that’s all!!

Splash The Color

I decided to do “Splash The Color” from Visual Assignment.

Instruction says: “Color splash is a technique to emphasize details- you remove all color from a photo, and then restore original color to a single object, e.g. a green apple on a table. Think of the Girl in the red dress from Schindler’s List.

You can do this in a number of ways with photo editing software or using mobile apps. The answer lies in the Google”

so, at first I took

This is carnation.
By the way,I am working at flower shop and carnation is one of my favorite flower, and that’s why I have chosen carnation.

second, I have been using ‘color Touch’. this is a free software, you can download it from android market.
Edit this picture like

this.

when I took a first picture, it reminds me Japanese flag, so I put a color at center of the picture.
