Movie in a Picture

For this section I decided to do a Fanfic Assignment because it was new to me. I chose this assignment because other students in my class did this as well and thought it would be a great chance for me to use GIMP.

The Directions read:

Take the name or title of your favorite band, song, movie, or tv show and display it in the form of photography. You can take as many pictures as you want, but have your photos capture the band, song, movie, or tv show you pick. Be creative and have fun!

I chose the film Big Fish for my photograph because it had great photography and it was also my favorite film!!

Process: First off I decided to look for pictures I can use to use in my collage. I searched on flickr typing in Big Fish, Ewan McGregor, Tim Burton ect… However, I couldn’t find all the photos I wanted to use, I went to google images to find some others. These are the photos I chose…

Then, I opened each picture onto GIMP one by one to cut out the faces of the characters. I embeded the photos onto the picture with the tree and used the smudge tool to erase the tree on the side. Then I tried to give it that sense of magic with the paint tool and splattered yellow sparks in the background. This is how it turned out.

I put the director of the film (Tim Burton) in the front to show that what is behind him is his story and imagination. I tried to blend the characters in the background to let it look like it was part of his imagination. Also, I did not just put a picture of a gigantic fish for my picture because I thought that would be boring and too direct. Instead, i used the key characters which I favored the most to represent this film, Big Fish.

Guess The Songs!

Hey I thought doing an assignment from the audio section would be fun for me because I love music. I decided to do the assignment called A Contest Nobody Could Win by procsilas. The instructions read…Take six very short fragments (less than one second each) from six different songs and ensemble them into a single piece. Expect others to guess which six songs you have used. Basic rules: 1) do not repeat songs 2) do not use covers (unless the cover is much better than the original, sh*t happens) 3) John Cage’s 4’33” is not a song!!!

I thought this was a great assignment to do because I personally enjoyed trying to guess the songs other students used :)

This is what my little music quiz sounds like. Can you guess the songs???

Basically I just picked out 6 songs that I thought people would recognize and put them into Garageband. Then I just cut little segments from each song and connected it with each other. Then, I exported the song into iTunes and uploaded it on soundcloud.

I hope you enjoy guessing the songs and please put them in the comments!!!

Design your Dream

The assignment I chose to do today prompts us to–

Take a recent dream or nightmare you’ve had and make a visual representation of it for others to see.

This is actually not based on my dream, but one that a friend had about me.

The process was time-consuming, but I had fun doing it. First, I painted the purple/red background color and drew the words “Insert sky here.” Then I took a picture of that, and did the rest on my computer–layering some geometric shapes, and adding the final text–I chose to do this because I wanted a computer font to contrast with the childish-looking painted lettering.

While it didn’t turn out exactly like I had envisioned, I had a lot of fun making this project, and would like to try it again in the future.

Cooking with Clio!

Hi guys! This is my first DS106 assignment for the 3rd section. This time I looked through the video section and came across an assignment  called the Cooking Show by Jaymie. Although I can’t really cook, I thought it would be a lot of fun making a cooking show so I did it.

Assignment: Do you love cooking? Why not make your favourite recipe in front of the camera? Host a cooking show in your own kitchen and show us how it’s done. We’re not all Jamie Oliver, but we can try.

I first decided what to make. I looked through my kitchen and I could find anything besides cereal so I just went with it. Then I had my younger sibling record using an iPhone. I had my sister stop recording after each step to make the editing process easier. Then, I used iMovie to edit my movie. I took off out the audio on the video and added a song that I liked (Your Easy Lovin’ Ain’t Pleasin’ Nothin’ by Mayer Hawthorne). After I was done, I uploaded the movie straight to youtube through iMovie.

This is a very short “recipe”  so I hope you can make yourself a Clio style breakfast when you’re in a rush! :)

DS106 Cartoon the Head!

I chose the assignment which is Cartoon the Head! The assignment requires ”Take any person, thing, or animal and apply a cartoon character head to it. Be creative!” I do not know the my picture is creative, but I did this assignment.

I used the Aviary again. I took the Luffy‘s picture from the website. And another picture come from my photo album. And I cut the Luffy’s picture along the face line, and I added to Tokyo tower.

I used Tokyo tower and Luffy. Luffy is a characor in “One Pieace“. First, I still think Tokyo tower is symbol of Tokyo and Luffy is symbol of current Japanese animation. Therefore I corroborate with tokyo tower and Luffy. Nowadays, the animation is read by elementary school to over the 50 age people because the story is really good. If someone do not know or never read it, you should read. You will learn a lot of things from the animation.

DS106 A Sunset

I chose the ds106 assignment, A Sunset. It says “Take a picture of a beautiful sunset. Nothing fancy, just a nice picture :) “.

I took the photo around 5:00 pm. And when I play the futsal with my friend at park, I saw the such a beutifu landscape, and at that time I remember this assignment, so I took it. Even though we watch the sun, sunrise or sunset, I think we do not watch carefully. And I forgot where the phrase come from, but it said people forget natural beuty is equal to world beuty. I strongly agree with the phrase. I recomend this assignment because we can focus on passing the time.

Toska the Idiot

Write the script for a conversation with your long lost friend Toska, who deals with ‘a dull ache of the soul, a longing with nothing to long for, a sick pining, a vague restlessness, mental throes, yearning.’. Generate five random words from the Words with No Translation tool and make sure Toska uses one word in each of his lines, making sure his words give some shade to their meaning.

I took a few liberties with this assignment, but created a story while keeping the general idea of interacting with Toska.  Hope you enjoy!

We began to suffocate on the agitated humidity in the shoddy hut. It seeped through the tree bark exterior and caught in our throats, our brains began to expand like balloons pumped full of helium. Clarity began to overlap with a dangerous paranoia, and in this state of isolation, paranoia could prove fatal.

I looked over to see Toska stretched across firmly packed dirt of the hut’s floor with his once white t-shirt wrapped around his head like a turban. “The sun isn’t exactly beating down,” I said, “your shirt may prove more useful if you wear it to ward off mosquitoes.”

“It is warding off those damn bloodsuckers. They could be sucking out my brain,” Toska scoffed as he stood to his feet. He picked up a pair of brown, size 11 Prada loafers and after a brief look of disgust, brushed their surface with his hand and put them on his feet.

“Where do you think you’re going?” The idiot, I hoped he was eaten by a tiger.

“I’m going to iktsuarpok, there could be natives preparing to attack any moment. It’s best to stay on guard at all times.” Toska picked up a large stick propped against the hut’s entrance, he felt its weight in one hand before resting the back portion on his shoulder. Toska donned a Mowgli worthy crouch and a look of determination- he needed a red loin cloth.

I watched him awkwardly walk out in his crouch like state and decided to take a nap. He had not changed a bit since we were kids.

After ten minutes passed, I heard strange noises coming from outside, not as much frightening as they were irritating. It sounded as though someone were calling a dog, or maybe their pet tiger. My head dropped back to the ground and I closed my eyes once more. The noise slowly grew louder and louder, closer and closer. In an instant my lips shrank into a hard prune and my eyelids retracted back into their sockets, the turquoise cardigan draped across my face took a reddish hue.

“What the hell do you want?” I growled through clenched teeth after tossing the cardigan aside. Propped on my elbows, I waited for a reply from the messy blond hair peaking inside the entrance.

“I’ve been making faamiti at you for half an hour,” Toska yelled in a whisper. “Come outside, I need you to see this, it’s important.”

The tousled blond mess disappeared and my eyes explored uncharted territory in the back of my head. My shoes were already on, but I took my time standing up.

Outside, Toska was crouched behind a cluster of bushes, the long stick lay at his feet. Without the slightest intention of being quiet, I walked to him and tapped his shoulder.

I covered my ears for protection against the deafening squeal suddenly released. On the ground was suddenly a huddled mass of grown man devoid of any dignity. I tapped my foot. After an extended moment, a set of eyes were revealed as Toska peaked from underneath his arms. With his realization, he jumped to his feet and discretely brushed a couple tears from his eyes.

“How dare you mencolek me! Those childish tricks could have gotten you killed, I was just about to attack, too,” he condemned as he brushed dirt from his butt.

“You are speaking gibberish. You sound like an idiot.”

“Gibberish? Gibberish! Let’s use biritululo to settle this once and for all, present your yams!”

“You have a damp spot on your trousers.”

“Yams, woman! Show me your yams!”

I turned around and began walking back to the hut, I decided to take a nap. The cardigan was over my face once more and I closed my eyes.

It had been nearly ten years since last seeing Toska, I had forgotten that agreeing to a camping trip with him would be a bad idea, particularly his idea of a camping trip, i.e., going to a foreign country and living off the land. We were meant to have a ranger pick us up after three days in this hut, it had been thirteen days at this point.

I heard a light cough and removed cardigan. Toska stood at the entrance looking like a child coming to his mother after having using a Sharpie to draw aliens all over the walls of his bedroom.

“Your, uh, cardigan brings out your eyes,” he said to his feet.

I put the cardigan back over my face and fell to the ground. I heard his steps as he began to walk away, but he stopped abruptly. Suddenly, he was on his knees beside my head and started, “I didn’t mean to yell at you, honest. It’s just being here, the dĂ©paysement of being in this country, it’s gone to my head! I really wouldn’t have attacked you either.”

I heard the desperation in his voice and thought, he really is an idiot, but how does he make so much money? I left my face covered. “Toska, just
take a nap or something. We’ll be okay, promise.”

I again closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep.
