Spaceships

Make your own ringtone was the assignment I chose to do for this week audio assignments.  It wasn’t as easy as I thought it was going to be.  It was really difficult picking the exact moment of the song to have a nice introduction and ending to it.  Since I couldn’t find a nice break in the song to end it the way I wanted.. I did a little research and found out how to delete vocals from a song on audacity here.  The tutorial was really helpful, and it allowed me to delete the vocals from the last part of the song I used as my ring tone and it just ended with instrumental music. I also had to mess around with the effects of the song and found that fading in the beginning, and fading out the ending was very beneficial to the end result.  It was also very important to me to have a short ring tone because my phone is attached to my hand, so I answer it almost to quickly.

I chose Let’s Talk about Spaceships by Say Hi To Your Mom.  I think this song is so cute and simple, and I actually downloaded the file into my phone and it is now my ringtone! :) Gooodbyeeee lame iPhone standard ring tone, Helloooooo amazingness.

Worth 2 stars

Taking Back Chipmunk.. oh wait!

Mainstream Chipmunk’d was one of the audio assignments I chose to do for week 7/8.  The goal of this assignment was to take a main stream artist and chipmunk them.  I love the band Taking Back Sunday, they have been one of my favorite since I was in middle school – ugh how did I get to be a senior in college so quick? Any who, for this assignment I had to import the song Liar ( It Takes One To Know One) into audacity and mess around with the pitch of the song and the speed to make it just perfect.  I had to start over a couple of times because I couldn’t figure out how to undo things.  I eventually figured it out… after I had my amazing finished product.  Funny how things work huh?

When I first started using audacity I really hated it, I thought it was so complicated with all the weird symbols but the more I use it, the cooler stuff I get to do with it!!

I’ve posted the music video of the original song so you guys can have an idea of what it sounded like!

Worth 3 stars

Story Time With Green Eggs and Ham

Seuss it

Take a Dr. Seuss book, or perhaps the Berenstain Bears, or one of your own favorites, and read it to us. Give me your best Yertle the Turtle, or Lorax, or Mama Bear and have fun!

This is a 3 star assignment

For this assignment I picked Dr. Seuss’s Green Eggs and Ham.  This book has always been one of my favorite Dr. Seuss books.   I like reading books aloud so that’s why I chose this assignment.  I had fun reading this book out loud with expression. I first recorded this into Audacity,  I then listened to the recording.  After I chose the recording I liked I converted the file to a .WAV and then uploaded it into Soundcloud.

I had to make a couple of recordings because I messed up making the recording.  The book is so repetitive that it was easy for me to lose my place and mix up words that are rhyming.  Such as the words could and would.

While waiting for my Soundcloud file to upload I decided to make another cover for my soundcloud track.  I went to google images and found an image of the cover of Green Eggs and Ham.  I then uploaded it into photoshop and added the words: Reading by: Abbey Andrews

Make ‘em Laugh

Make ‘em Laugh

Find a good, brief joke in a language other than your mother tongue; if you don’t know any other languages this might be a good way to start learning. Record your voice telling the joke focusing on pronunciation and try to make it sound as natural as you can with appropriate vocal inflections. Add a (cc) music track underneath (maybe from jamendo.com) and a laugh track (soungle.com is a good source) at the end.

This is a two star assignment.

I knew for this assignment I wanted to recite a joke in French.  I had taken 4 years of French in high school and I am currently in French 202 at UMW.  For this assignment I had to Google jokes in French that I thought would be appropriate.  This is where I came across these french jokes for kids.  It’s about a little boy named Toto who always seems to be getting in trouble at school.  These jokes are known to kids who are all part of France.  I then went to Freesounds and downloaded a laughter sound that sounded like a child laughing since this is supposed to be a joke for a child.  I then recorded the joke into Audactiy and then I imported the laughter sound.  Afterwards I converted the Audacity file into a .WAV file and uploaded it to Soundcloud.

This is the joke I recorded into Audacity, with the translation:

Toto rentre de l’école :

- Papa! Tu vas être fier de moi! J’ai été le seul à répondre à la question du maître! ? – Et c’etait quoi la question? – C’était: qui a posé une punaise sur ma chaise?

Toto comes back from school:

- Daddy! You’re gonna be proud of me! I was the only one who answered the teacher’s question! – And what was the question? – It was: “Who put a tack on my chair?”

My voice & My Autotune

I have listened to autotuned sounds many times before, I wanted to do it. Therefore I decided to do this assignment; to do this project I first saw a tutorial in YouTube. Here is the link to it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wx97oLyph4M&feature=related
I then used Audacity to record my voice and auto tune it, I first record my voice and then I changed its tempo, speed, and pitch from “effect tool”. I also used the repeated tool to make some of my words repeated. I was surprised that after changing the musical characteristics my voice completely changed to a male voice. I really enjoyed doing this project; it was easy and fun to do.

DS 106 Radio Bumper

The theme for our group radio show is Halloween therefore I chose to use horror sound effects for my radio bumper. The ambience sound effect, nightmare sound effect, thunderstorm sound effect, horror scream sound effect, studio rat scream sound effect, and a horror theme song were used for making this bumper. Each sound effect was downloaded from http://www.freesound.org; similarly, Audacity was used for creating the bumper. On the other hand, I imported all those sound into Audacity and I then record my voice and merged it with the sound effects.

Laughter challenge

This assignment was to tell a joke in a language other than one’s mother tongue; I decided to do a joke in Indian language. I found the joke from Google; I then find some laughter sound effects from http://www.freesound.org. I used Audacity for this audio, which was easy and fun to do.

My Ringtone from 2 Songs

Make Your Own Ringtone

Using Audacity, trim, join end-to-end (cut/paste), and/or play side-by-side audio files in order to create your very own ringtone. Ringtones should be a maximum or 40 seconds to conserve phone memory (besides, most cell phones don’t ring longer than 30 seconds or so…the extra 10 seconds is just in case). Be creative, you might want to actually use it on your phone. Please properly cite all sources used — Remember, fair use requires money to use as a defense.

this is a 2 star assignment
I had a lot of fun with this assignment.  I’ve made ringtones from songs on my iPhone before using the app called RingtoneMaker with only one song.  I liked how with this assignment I was able to use more than one song.  I guess the hardest part was finding two songs that I thought went well together.  The two songs I picked were The Seeker Theme (Full Version) and Prophecy from a soundtrack from the tv show Legend of the Seeker (it got cancelled after only 2 seasons because no one knew about it).  Both of the songs were composed by Joseph LoDucaHere is a link to the soundtrack, it can then be viewed in iTunes.  I already had the soundtrack downloaded into my iTunes account.  All I had to do was convert the iTunes songs to .WAV files and then imported them into Audacity.  I then left only the first 30 seconds of the songs.  I then amplified the sound and faded out the end of each song and faded out the endings so it sounded more conclusive, like a ringtone.  I picked these two songs because I liked how the woman’s voice in both songs went well together as one song.

MY favorite Ringtone

To make this ringtone I used my favorite jazz tune called Sing Sing by Benny Goodman which is from Swing jazz era and mixed it with a pop Indian song. I used audacity for editing these two tunes; since the Jazz tune was louder than Indian pop song; I used envelope tool to trim the volume of the Sing Sing tune and I adjust it to pop Indian song. The tunes were downloaded from YouTube; here is the link

The first song I learned

The first song I learned was Twinkle Twinkle Little Star in elementary school. I was really obsessed with Indian songs. So when I was asked to learn this song in school, I tried to sing it like Indian songs. I downloaded the English version and Indian version from YouTube; here is the link respectfully
http://www.youtube.com/user/hooplakidz?v=xKFRSIBP8pA Then I emerged both songs to audacity and edited in the way I learned the song while I was at the elementary school.
