Hey! Ho! Recycle That Media Like Whoa!

Assignment: For this assignment we were asked to mashup at least 7 different pieces of this media to make a new story, and use at least 2 different types (e.g. audio and image, and video).

Inspiration:
I honestly looked through all the media and just tried my best to come up with something that looked like it could all flow together.

Process:
After going to the website and looking through all the material I decided to make a video of a boy growing up showing different pictures of his life through stages. I picked out 6 pictures from the website that looked like they could have been one person and I used some audio of the website as well. I thought that it would really go well with the story that the video is trying to convey.

Previous Example:

I thought that this person did a great job with using all the recycled media and linking them together! The story had a really cool theme and was very creative! The only picture that didn’t really seem to work for me was the first one. But, other than that I thought that they did a fantastic job.

My Video:

What could that Strange Sound be? Opposites Attract with Bhangara and Reggae Music

Description:
For this Mashup Assignment I was asked to take two songs from separate genres and create a new song using audio editing software.

Inspiration:
So I decided to use a song from the music genres reggae and classical. I decided to use Bhangra music because I love that music genre. The music is so upbeat and it is completely different from classical music. I used to be on the Eagle Bhangra Dane Team here at the school and this is one of the songs we used at our tryouts. I decided that this would be really easy to combine with reggae music because it is also very upbeat and is great dancing music.

Process:
I picked these two songs out of each music genre from my Itunes library. I then used the program Audacity to edit each song so they would sound like one. I then tried to uploaded my sound to SoundCloud account. But, I kept getting an error message because of a copy right issue. So instead I made a video using Windows Movie maker and uploaded it that way. I decided to combine Balle Balle Hogaye Mitro by DJ Sanj with I’m Okay/Drinking Rum & Redbull by Beenie Man ft. Fambo. I took out the chorus and the ending in Balle Balle Hogaye and replaced it with the one in Beenie Man’s song.

Previous Example:

I thought that this person did an amazing job with their Remix of these two songs. Not only did the use each song evenly but their transitions were great! The only thing I wish that I could recommend to make for this was possibly trying to use two songs that didn’t go so well together, just to give the project an extra push.

Here is the song that I came up with:

Movie Trailer Mashup

For the movie trailer mashup I was supposed to take a movie trailer and change the audio to put a new spin on it. I overlayed Al Green’s Lets Stay Together over the movie trailer for Obsessed using Windows Movie Maker. I wanted to give the movie more of a love story vibe instead of creepy stalker vibe that was its original intent.

Using Recycled Media

I used seven images and an audio clip to create this video. I used gimp to edit the photo of the hand over the other six images. The audio clip I edited in audacity to clip out the sections that I wanted. I then used audacity to speed on up and slow the other one down.

Recycle the Media

My story for this is people walking in the streets and sidewalks to get to the city to ride horses. I used the street sounds and 6 pictures that represented walking through the streets to get to the end destination. I used Windows Movie Maker to help combine the whole video.

Recycled Media turned into a story

To complete my 7 stars I completed the Recycle the media assignment. I went onto the ds106 recycle bin and gathered 7 items. I took 5 pictures and saved the images. And downloaded 2 sound audio clips onto WMM. I uploaded all 7 items onto WMM and created my video.

The story behind this video is a couple decides to take a walk on a cloudy day to a path they discovered that they have never been to. They go follow the path and find leaves and and branches, nothing out of the ordinary, when all of the sudden they come upon an elephant. This wihle time they ahve been hearing forest sounds with birds, so this was a total surprise to them when they found the elephant. They were so intrigued at this point they continued on their path to the end where they ended at a stream. The two sat down and enjoyed their new secret spot they discovered that day.

The Ring and Totoro

You know, I was honestly hopeful when Master did a few of the assignments for this week himself, that he would do the rest on his own.  Not so…

Well, I managed to gather together some clips from the Ring–where the main plot element IS someone watching a video!  Afterwards, I managed to get ahold of the old original trailer for My Neighbor Totoro, and make it look like…the scariest movie ever!

My research indicates this is not actually the case, but it sure makes for a funny clip!

Party in the Spaceship

Opposites AttractDevelop your own song utilizing the two songs from separate genres. This assignment will be complete using Audacity or a similar audio editing software. An example of a remix would be the utilization a classical song and a pop song in your remix.

For this assignment I chose to do a song called Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus and a song called Let’s Talk About Spaceships by Say Hi To Your Mom.  I wanted to use two different genres, but a song that almost went together.  In the song Let’s Talk About Spaceships I ended the song with the singer saying “let’s talk about spaceships, except me and you okay?” at this point I thought it would be good to start with Party in the USA and having Miley Cyrus start talking about the Los Angeles experience.  I felt that it went together because the first clip wanted to talk about something else, and the second song starts talking about something else. It was really hard to make it flow together because the genres were just so different and one song was more mellow while the other one is so upbeat.  I used audacity to trim the songs and change the oder that I wanted each clip to play.

Remix #2

for this remix, I used a new assignment, the movie song mashup!

I might have interpreted it wrong, but here I’ve tried to combine two songs, Candle on the Water and Safe and Sound. Candle on the water is a complete classic by Helen Reddy from…PETE’S DRAGON. HOLY CRAP, my sister Haley was completely obsessed with that movie. We rented it every single time it was her time to pick what we got to rent from Bullfeathers. So, I know the entire movie by heart, needless to say. Safe and Sound is by Taylor Swift and the Civil Wars. It was in the Hunger Games, which I didn’t actually see. This song is pretty awesome though. Both are about finding love, or being there for someone you love. I hope my mashup accomplished that.

also, went into Movie Maker and added an image so I could put it on youtube. Hope at least one of these options works.

Ok, I ran into copyright problems here too. If this happens to not show up, I really tried to get it to let me do this. [I can email you a copy if you need it].

I already had both songs in my iTunes so I just imported them into audacity from there. Then I clipped the parts I wanted to keep from each song and pasted them onto a new track in the order I wanted them. This part took a really long time because I tried to make sure the respective songs were at least transitioning. I did a lot of highlighting and then expanding the highlighted portion with that awesome little finger tool! [I tried to intersperse the candle with safe as much as possible] . When I got the desired effect, I just exported it as an mp3 and put it on soundcloud! Woohoo! Also, I think it turned out pretty good. Oh, and I went one star over the required seven stars with this assignment.

Recycle Mania

Recycle this media : Your task for this assignment is to mashup at least 7 different pieces of this media to make a new story, and use at least 2 different types (e.g. audio and image, imahe and video). The story most likely would be done as a video, but see if you can make these different kinds of media make sense as the content. What kind of recycled story can you make out of this cast off media?

This week we had to use recycled media from other ds106ers.  The recycle media had a total of about 150 different pictures, videos, and sound clips.  I was originally expecting there to be a lot more of recycled media, and a wider variety.  I was kind of dissapointed by how little audio clips they had that I ended up with a video made of pictures with a sound clip at the end.  I really like the way I used the media to create a story out of it.  I feel like it almost prepared me for my final project in a way of using separate media files and to create one story line.  By now, I’m basically a pro at audacity and iMovie, just kidding! For this assignment I wanted to choose the media first and then create a story line.  I thought this way I would have to be more creative with is, and somehow connect all of the pictures and sound clip.  I think that if I would have come up with a story before I found the media it probably wouldn’t have allowed for my creativity to flow.  For the movie, I decided to add subtitles to make it easier to follow the story line.  I really liked the idea of using media from other people to make something of my own.

Here is my end result:

The recycled media can be found here.
