Blue Punch Buggy!

For this assignment we were supposed to create or mimic a cartoon voice. I’ve been told that I have a decent “Stitch” voice, although I disagree, and it may sound a little weird recorded, but if you know Stitch, he’s pretty weird! As I recorded my voice of the Blue Punch Buggy scene, I thought it was pretty dull of me to just say the quotes. So instead, I took the audio from the actual clip and took out Stitch’s voice and replaced it with my own. I’m not the master of audio or audacity, so I didn’t know how to keep the background noise while I cut out the voice…Guess that’s something I’ll be looking into next time. And as I’m typing this, I realize it probably would be cool if I played the video with my voice-over too…ehhhhh maybe later in the semester! ;)

Time is love Ringtone

One of the AudioAssignments I chose to do this week was called Make Your Own Ringtone(s) worth 2 stars.  I chose this because typical I purchase my ringtones and sometimes I cant find the exact part of the song I want for my ringtone so this was an awesome alternative.  I used Audacity to create the ringtone and used the song Time is Love by Josh Turner. I opened Audacity and went into the File tab and clicked on the new choice. I then clicked on the File tab again and scrolled down to the import selection then selected the Audio selection.  I went into my itunes playlist and selected Time is Love by Josh Turner.  I then listened to the song and selected the parts of the song I did not want in the ringtone and pressed delete on my computer keys and it removed those parts.  After editing the song, I went into the File tab and clicked export and labeled the file as Ringtone Time is Love.  I then opened up soundlcoud.com in a new internet browser and uploaded the song onto the internet.  I then tagged the song with the links JoshTurner, ds106, AudioAssignments152 and AudioAssignments and then saved them.

I then had soundcloud create a tweet about it…

#ds106 #joshturner Creating a ringtonehttp://soundcloud.com/astegemi/creating-a-ringtone … on#SoundCloud

I then went into my email and put the audio file into an email and emailed it to my phone to use the song as a ringtone!

Assignment Details:

Make Your Own Ringtone(S)

Using Audacity, trim, join end-to-end (cut/paste), and/or play side-by-side audio files in order to create your very own ringtone. Ringtones should be a maximum or 40 seconds to conserve phone memory (besides, most cell phones don’t ring longer than 30 seconds or so…the extra 10 seconds is just in case). Be creative, you might want to actually use it on your phone. Please properly cite all sources used — Remember, fair use requires money to use as a defense.

Yes, You May.

This post is in response to the “May I take your order?” audio assignment. The assignment wants us to use our best accent to order something from McDonald’s. I switched this assignment a little…because what fun is doing the original assignment when you can do it however you want?!

First, I started by changing McDonald’s to Good Burger…Why? Because Ed, Kel Mitchell, is hilarious when he asks to take your order! I remember I used to watch this so much when it came out! So now that Ed is taking my order, I decide to order a sundae. But what accent to use? Well, it’s not really an accent(I don’t think) but I chose to talk like Stitch. My girlfriend encourages the use of this voice, and I like to put a smile on her face! I think it sounds better in person, but you’ll have to meet me in person if you ever want to hear that! Anyways, I put them together, and I came up with this silly little audio track:

And slowly, but surely, I will get over the fact that I hate working with audio and recording my voice!

Chipmunkd’ my favorite artist…..mixed emotions.

The first Audio assignment I chose to do was called Mainstream Chipmunkd’, worth 3 stars.  Its goal was to take one of your favorite songs and chipmunk it to make it sounds cool.  Anyone that is my friend could tell you that my favorite artist of all times is Rascal Flatts.  The first thing I did was open Audacity and go into File and select a new template to create this skeptical master piece! I went into the File tab and selected import then Audio which then led me to my itunes playlist.  I selected the song Feels Like Today by Rascal Flatts and imported it into the audacity template.  I selected the song with the curser then went and clicked onto the Effects tab and scrolled down until I found the Change Pitch selection and proceeded to click on it.  I then adjusted the scroll bar to the right and clicked ok.  I pressed play and was shocked to hear my favorite artist come across in chipmunk voices.  I was really happy with how the adjustment came out.  The next step that I did was to click on the File tab and click export, naming the file: Chipmunk Rascal Flatts.  I then opened up soundcloud.com and uploaded the new version onto my soundcloud.com account. Once it was uploaded onto soundcloud I added the tags AudioAssignments, AudioAssignments494, Rascal Flatts and ds106.

I even had soundcloud hook up to my twitter to let others view my creation

ASSIGNMENT DETAILS:

Mainstream Chipmunkd’ (http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/mainstream-chipmunkd/)

The object of this assignment is to take a mainstream artist and chipmunk them. As we reflect on our childhoods we realize that all the chipmunks were an awesome bunch and it is really easy to do this assignment. All you need is any kind of musical editing software like MIXXX and Virtual DJ (which are free). Second either raise the BPM (beats per minute) or edit pitch of the track. If it is a slower track just raise the tempo and try to give the song an upbeat personality. Make sure to tag your assignment and have fun!

If I Die Young

loud mouth is the name of this assignment

“Tell a story using different lyrics from music by different artistes in different genres. It should be at least 3 minutes long and should make sense.”

For this project I took the song If I Die Young by The Band Perry and American Honey by Carrie Underwood and uploaded them both from my iTunes to Audacity. Then I listened to the songs and cut and pasted sections to make it sounds like two sides of a story. To make it flow better I faded out each section and slightly overlapped the next so there wasn’t a break in the song. I found it really hard to make it flow smoothly and I’m not exactly happy with all of the transitions, I need a little more practice.

The song tells a story about a girl from a small town that died young. If I Die Young is the side of the girl who passed, at peace with her life. American Honey is a friend of the girl reminiscing and wishing she had had more time.

Ring Ring

Make  your own ringtone

“Using Audacity, trim, join end-to-end (cut/paste), and/or play side-by-side audio files in order to create your very own ringtone. Ringtones should be a maximum or 40 seconds to conserve phone memory”

My ringtone is a clip of the usual telephone ring I got from freesound.org added to a section of the song “Everybody Talks.” I felt like the song was very appropriate for a ringtone. Usually my ringtone is solely a song, but for this project I felt like something needed to be added to solidify, or categorize it as a ringtone. I like how it starts out as a boring old ring, but then becomes a fun popular tune.

To make this ringtone I downloaded the ring from freesound and opened in it Audacity. Then I imported the song Everybody Talks from my iTunes. I listened and found my favorite section of the song, Cut that section and deleted the rest of the song. Then I added my selection to the end of the ringing sound, exported it and uploaded it to SoundCloud.

CAN YOU HEAR ME?!

Hmmmm, well if you’ve missed me in the past week, I’m sorry, but I had the opportunity to take a break from doing ALL my schoolwork, and I took full advantage of it. While I haven’t posted anything in a week, I have been working on different things for DS106…aka WRTZ Radio, which is a group project which was assigned and will air sometime earlier next week! (I’ll provide more details so you can listen LIVE!!)

Anyways, I’m easing back into doing work after being a bum at my parents house for the weekend, so here comes the first post of Audio Weeks 7&8!

I’ve got to admit, audio is one of my LEAST favorite things to work with. Sure, I may know WHAT would sound good, but I can never get it just right…So I’m going to jump in there this week and give it my best!! This week we have to complete 10 stars worth of assignments…which doesn’t sound like a lot…but them I remember, “Audio Assignments”…shit, now it’s a daunting task!

So I open up the Audio Assignment Repository and find the “Familiar Sounds” assignment. Looks like it may be okay to work with. It asks “Record some of the sounds that you hear daily that may be unfamiliar to others and build it into an audio story.”, which seems similar to our Sound Effects Story in the earlier weeks. I didn’t really have anything to look at on what I’m supposed to do(the only person that submitted the assignment has had their website go inactive…or something)…So I’m doing this assignment my way!

Here is my sound:

Open the bay, let in the dark.
Another emergency, we embark.
Same shit, different nights.
We turn on our flashing lights.
You’ll hear the wail and see red and white.
But you’ll never know this is connected to the light.

Harp Tripper

I’ve stilled not gotten very far in learning how to play my harmonica. Maybe, it is like learning… you don’t get far without putting any effort into it. But I can still have fun making noise.

Tonight I have about 5 gazillion things to do, what am I doing making a ds106 assignment? I can’ t help it. This one is Make Music DAMNIT:

Play the first song you have ever learned through any type of musical medium. Do it in a way that conjures up your memory of learning that song, or somehow fold the song into a larger story.

Like almost no other person in the world, at 15 I decided I wanted to be a rock and roll guitar player. It was going to eb tought. Not only did I lack a guitar, I would not know what to do with one. I asked my parents if I could take lessons, and like most everything I asked for they supported it. I signed up for lessons, every Saturday while Mom did her grocery store, I stood slightly embarrassed with a red, white and blue cheap guitar in the strip mall music store (it looked somewhat like this one).

I cannot recall my teacher, he probably was a tired hippy, but had those long natural guitar fingers and made it look so easy. He must have sensed my goal (like it was hard to guess), so while he did get me learning some scales and basic theory, he pulled some music boks in with music of the era (or the one before), America and Jackson Browne were the first ones I recall.

But one thing he taught me in the first month was the opening to Day Tripper by the Beatles, that opening naked riff was actually playable.

So to do this assignment, I had to play it on another instrument. I do not even know the notes at all on the blues harp, so its just wild off the mark guessing. I honked through ne verse, then picked up my guitar and gave it a run through (wow I am rusty on that too).

And the extra bit of the story was that my parents told me if I stuck with lessons for 6 months, they would get me a “real” guitar to replace the red white and blue loaner from the store. That as a sufficient incentive. They got me a Takamine F-340 which, if you stand far away from it, is supposed to be a visual ringer for a Martin, especially for the logo text on the headstock. Supposedly Martin wrote them a letter of intent to sue, but never followed through, and Takamine later changed their design.

Stories are everywhere.

This is the guitar I still own, some 30 years later, and not a whole lot better, but this thing has been everywhere with me. It’s got my sweat in it, the molecules of scraped skin, a ding where some drunk guy at a campground banged it on a rock, one of the tuning heads has been loose for 2o years… yeah, its got wear and tear, like you and me.

It’s a part of me. And I of it.

I gotta good reason for taking the easy easy out.

Jingle Jangle: Bath and Body Works Soap

Here is my lovely Jingle Jangle about Bath and Body Works soap. I got one of the fall scents for super cheap and it smells wonderful. What can I say. So to make this, I sang my little “jingle,” then I found some piano to go along with it on Freesound.org (surprisingly, this one is Silent Night) and then I made it echo quite a bit and then I changed the speed to like 25% faster.
I think it sounds Jingley.

Remixed Context

I was actually doing the 7 Comment Challenge when I came across a post on the blog Corgis and Cups of Coffee. She did a remix of Mean Girls and I thought it was really cool. I decided to try and make a remix of my favorite movie, Finding Neemo. The assignment is called Context. You take context from a movie and give it your own spin.

I first found a clip of my favorite scene (just keep swimming) and converted it using an online converter. I uploaded it to audacity and decided it wasn’t enough. I then thought of using music from The Little Mermaid. I downloaded the instrumental of Under the Sea and put it behind the clip. I figured they both had a theme of “under the sea”. Turns out they both kind of had the same rhythm too. I sped up the clip from the movie and changed the pitch of Dory’s voice. I then played around with many of the tools trying to get the right effect. I found the echo tool and decided it would be cool to echo Dory’s voice in the end because that’s where she starts descending in the dark. It was actually really fun to play around with since I was working with material I really enjoy. I am also slowly starting to learn more about the tools in Audacity.
