Visual Assignment: Path Less Traveled; 2 Stars

Path less traveled- 2 Stars

I saw this assignment and saw a really awesome opportunity. I figured I would use one of my photos that I was less fond of, and incorporate it into an assignment. I figure it is best to make use of it rather than be ashamed of it. So I went and found a tutorial on how to get the vintage effect on my photo! It was super helpful, so I will post the link on here: http://designinstruct.com/photography/vintage-photo-effect-photoshop/ .

I used this to manipulate the image I had taken for a daily create, and used the text tool in Photoshop CS6 to write the quote in Helvetica font. This is how I came up with the final product, which I was super happy with. I looked back upon this project and thought, it was pretty cool to have done something different and off the cuff with this photo. I like to look at other people’s tutorials and try to apply certain effects to my work; it makes it more interesting and gives me more confidence in my abilities and in the work I am doing. I encourage everyone to use the resources out there, because they can be super helpful and inspiring for your future work!

Visual Assignment, Common Everyday Object: 2 Stars

brownessauce- 2 Stars
Hot Sauce :p

My inspiration for doing this assignment was pretty simple. I have a bottle of hot sauce that my roommate brought back for me from Cozumel. It is the BOMB, for sure! I picked it up from my desk and decided to photograph it. I used Photoshop CS6 to manipulate the filters in this photo. I ended up using the wave and other filters, giving it a cool background effect and was able to change the opacity, making this common everyday hot sauce make more abstract and interesting!

Onwards Blitzen!

Before I go into this blitz set, I should mention that it was not a good idea to shoot this at night.  My camera’s flash is not powerful enough to lighten many of the photos.  Still, I was in a Halloween mood for these pictures (I’m a month early, sue me).

BlitzStart!

The start time.  9:21 p.m.

Shadows

First picture.  I saw an interesting shadow from a tree that I thought seemed very creepy and thought it would work well. Located in downtown Fredericksburg by William street!

Supernatural

I thought this lamp post looked very supernatural.  It seemed as though it were almost floating since it was so dark that you couldn’t see the lamp post.  If you look real close next to the light, you can see a … SPOOKY FACE OH GOD LOOK AWAY.

Hand

This is my buddy Andrew’s hand.  Thanks to him for helping me out.

Color

Golden Monkey beer on top of a wood table top down at Cap Ale.  I thought the colors seemed very similar to each other.

Converging lines

Finally, converging lines from the brick sidewalks around downtown Fredericksburg.

BlitzEnd

And our stop time (9:50).  Yes, I went 10 minutes over.  Turns out, time flies when you’re having fun taking pictures and being spooked out of your mind cause you just read a spooky story and walked alone in the dark down an unlit path and then saw creepy shadows and stuff.  Yeah, still spooked.  I need some hot chocolate.

To any future readers doing this assignment: do it during the day.  It would be so much easier, mainly because of the lighting.

Plastic

(From Create a New You assignmentTake an existing photo of yourself, and edit in a way to give the picture a different look. Color your hair, change your eyes, whiten your teeth, get a “tan”, etc. 2-stars)

newme

I’ve always wanted a different look.  For a while it was deep blue eyes, sometimes it was hazel, sometimes it was one eye as one color and the other eye as the other.  Recently it’s been red hair and freckles.  I recently scrapped the freckles idea because I like to be darker.  So, I re-primped myself in GIMP to give myself lighter hair (something I have generally always wanted) and more distinct skin.  There are other subtleties that are less obvious but they’re there!  I think I’ll stick with the normal me.

Change of Emotion in Two Panels

Change of emotion in two panels
I simplified my colors to emphasize the emotions. At first, the Kicker is sick and green with anticipation, showing that he has no confidence in his kick, and then he misses and he’s blue with disappointment.

Buddy Photo

Doggy

This is my buddy.  His named is Doggy.  He likes long walks on the beach, horseback riding, watching football, sleepings, and of course climbing trees.  My grandma gave him to me when I was a baby. Yes I sleep with him.  I DARE YOU TO MAKE FUN OF ME.  He has probably more sentimental value to me than anything else I own.

Art Comes to Life

Eric Lisa

This is my masterpiece known as the Eric Lisa, modeled after the Mona Lisa.  When posing for this photo, I wanted to be sure that I had the nature in the back ground, the arms crossed, and most importantly, the half smile/smirk/facial expression/look thing.  I think I captured this element pretty well

When Unicorns Explode

Have you ever noticed how colorful drugs are? Very colorful… Which leads me to ask, maybe the unicorn exploded because of drugs?

Adapt an Artist’s Work

Adapt an Artist's Work
Norman Rockwell is one of my favorite artists. In this painting, Rockwell is trying to imply during the early 20th century that the United States still is a strongly Christian country. This is evident, because all the shops are closed, and the family is in their “Sunday best.” On the contrary, this shows how much society has changed. Shops are hardly ever closed on Sundays, and seeing a whole family actually dressed up and going to church is almost a rare sight. I now apply this work to the change we see in American culture in just a century.

Fontanella Live

Fontanella-LifEhAsOpeNedBeForeyoU

I remember doing those Album Cover you make from randomly generated things, a ton of different methods of doing this and getting the album/artist name and the artwork. I feel really lucking with the picture and album name I got I feel like the homeless man packed up with his garbage bag suit case moving away I feel like for him Life really may have opened before him and he is moving towards it. The band name Fontanella wasn’t that interesting which is part of the reason I put it up in the sky portion of the photo and got it to kinda look as if it were the clouds. The color and font of the album name “Life has opened before you” i tried using the redish orange lights reflecting in the trash bag and put that look into the text. the font I choose becasue it seemed like something you could find on one of those cardboard signs the homeless often use. i toyed with the coloring, shadows and lights. I made the portion he was walking towards brighter and the part behind him more shadowy to illustrate the moving forward to better options and opening up. I had a lot of fun with this assignment and was very pleased with how it turned out, even though it didn’t even take me that long to actually do. the Entire thing was done in Picasa by Google.
