Swede A Quiet Place

*CONTAINS SPOILERS*

This week, I went to the movies and saw A Quiet Place. I’m not a horror gal- like, AT ALL, but I still really really enjoyed the film because I love apocalypse stuff, as well as when scary things have real purpose. I chose to do the Swede a Scene assignment and took some creative freedom. The movie is quite difficult recreate, but I was inspired by the opening scene when the family is tiptoeing around the store, and she’s quietly searching through the medicine bottles to get her son some medicine.

I tried my best to take some creative shots of me tiptoeing around, as well as picking up pill bottles slowly and methodically. I chose not to edit the scenes too much because things in the movie are very drawn out since they have to take their time and think about absolutely everything so they don’t make a noise.

I also took some creative freedom since it was only me doing this and did things like brushed my teeth and turned the water on- things that seem so simple to us now but wouldn’t be to them. For instance, when I swallowed the pill, I chose to dry swallow it because if I was that character, turning on the water wouldn’t be worth potentially making too much noise and dying over it.

At the end, there is a clip of my phone ringing after I leave the room and start doing other things. After it rings for a bit, the screen goes to black and you hear the noise of a monster. This is meant to symbolize when the little boy dies after turning on the rocket in the first few minutes of the movie. I don’t think the characters would be naive enough to keep their ringers on, but I wanted to keep the noise coming from a technological source, just like the toy rocket.

I’m WELL aware this video isn’t great but I really really tried on it and did everything to the best of my ability since I was working alone.

Locke(ness) Interview

I found this assignment surprisingly easy to put together! I first decided on the five questions I would answer and wrote down the times in the original video to make editing easier later. One of my two difficulties was finding a place to record. It’s a dark day outside, so I had to rely on indoor lighting, which I always have difficulties with. I eventually settled for my room because it’s in a basement, so it has a creepy large window, and there are several lights and lamps!

After I recorded the first question using OBS and replayed it, I realized it was not recording my sound at all. I recorded the question again, and this time the audio was severely delayed and a low quality. I eventually used QuickTime to record and the audio was much better. Although, I move around a lot so you can hear the earbud microphones bumping into my hair a few times.

Answering the questions themselves was fun and I made a point not to plan out what I would say! My dream and the last time I ate cow products are both completely true, so hopefully these are not symptoms of the end!

I used iMovie to combine my video with the original, and this was easy to do. I have now used iMovie several times and I think I have the hang of it! If I changed anything about the video, I would probably say “um” less. It’s something that seems so normal to say while I’m thinking, but it seems so excessive when it’s in video. Maybe that’s just because I’m paying attention to it, though!

Let Me Tell You About my Apocalyptic Airwave Friends!!

I did the 4 star assignment This is My Story.  I decided to tell my story using notecards.   I told the story of what Mufasa and I are doing these days, and that we sorely miss or friends from the Barn.  It has been two weeks since we presented our story Apocalyptic Airwave a story of survival to others.  After we told our story Mufasa and I moved on from the barn trying to find other survivors.  I made this video to let my friends from the barn know that they are dearly missed.  Here is my video below:

GRWM

So basically for as long as I can remember, I have been watching makeup videos on YouTube. I am completely and utterly obsessed. For YEARS, I have gone back and forth between making videos of my own, but didn’t have the confidence, so I decided this class would be a great reason to try it!

I did a sped up Get Ready With Me style video and set it to some music, and I am SO proud of it. I know it’s probably insanely simple to those of you who are great at video editing but I didn’t even know I had iMovie on my laptop until a few days ago, so I’ve come a very very long way.

This is my take on the How To Tutorial assignment, which is 4 stars.

Get to Know Me!

Prior to the 10 Questions of the Apocalypse assignment being a thing, I had an idea to create a video where I asked my classmates and friends on twitter for any questions they had about me, then answered them on video for my online peers in this class to get to know me a little bit better. I tied this video into the apocalypse theme and the radio shows by answering questions that some of our radio show hosts may have had to answer.  Regardless, it’s still different enough from the other Q&A video we had to do.

I personally love watching Q&A’s so I really wanted to do myself, especially with the digital barrier of an online class, so I made this into the second assignment I’ve created for this class (The first one was called Call Me Beep Me). I made it 5 stars because it was really difficult to get my peers to participate in sending me questions, and because something so ramble-y like a Q&A took a long time to edit. I dragged my boyfriend to do this with me since it was the first video I was filming and I was nervous.

I filmed all of Week 10’s last week, but ended up losing a ton of footage and had to restart this week, so I’m trying to play catch up now that they’re finally all re-recorded and edited. I encourage you all to do this assignment, and if you do, let me know your thoughts!

Five CDE Questions Answered

Vanessa Locke asked me to answer some questions for whatever reason… so I chose a few and responded (in many cases a little too thoroughly and I had to sped things up or edit them down).

Making this video wasn’t too challenging. Again, I had to use my phone to record so shout out to my Galaxy s7. I tried to give a more interesting background and use my Marauders Map tapestry that always hangs on my bed. I hope my answers were sufficient for Nessie.

I Would Walk 500 Miles!!!

I did the 3 star assignment Where do your shoes take you in a day?  In this assignment you had to tell a story using a video of only your shoes!  Well I guess i misread the instructions because I definitely didn’y have socks on for part of the video, other parts of the clip I was wearing my socks.  But regardless I showed a video of where my feet took me that day.  Initially I was at home home here in Fredericksburg.  I then traveled to Fort Lee hence the video of my feet driving.  I then arrived at a baby shower hence me actually wearing dressy clothes.  Lastly after a long day which felt like 500 miles of walking I relaxed at my sisters at Fort Lee.  Here is my video below:

One of My Favorite People

When I saw that there was a 3-star assignment in which I could highlight one of my favorite people in my life, I knew I wanted to do this assignment. It took me about 2.5 seconds to decide that I would make a video about my mom.

So… who doesn’t love their mom? I for one, do!

Unfortunately, in June of 2009, I lost my mom after her two-month battle with cancer. I could write a book on how much I hate cancer. However, for the first twelve amazing, fun, hilarious, and adventurous years of my life, I had my amazing, fun, hilarious, and adventurous mom to walk along beside me. She was my everything. She taught me everything I know, seriously. One morning, I woke up and I wanted scrambled eggs for breakfast. She told me that it was time for me to learn how to cook them (even though, guys, my mom made the best scrambled eggs). I got a piece of paper out and wrote down the “recipe” so that I could make my own eggs. I don’t have this anymore but it was something like “1. Crack eggs in bowl 2. Whisk eggs 3. Pour milk in the eggs   4. Put butter in a pan and turn on medium heat 5. Pour eggs into pan 6. Stir the eggs around the pan until cooked.” As an only child, my mom babied me, and I loved it! She loved to pick out my outfits for the day until I was in second or third grade. She was always at every school play, festival, etc. Not only was she a fun person, she was protective, spiritual, and brave. She could do everything and anything she put her mind to. For one thing, she had me completely naturally. No epidural, no nothing. One thing that she always tried to get me to do was sports. I hate sports. She was the most athletic woman I knew. She signed me up for tennis, basketball, soccer, dance, gymnastics, field hockey, volleyball, golf, and horseback riding. As she may have expected (I don’t know, though), none of them stuck. I don’t even like going to the gym to run on an elliptical all that much to be honest. However, she always did things with my best interest in mind. She took care of everyone else first, before taking care of herself. She had to deal with me as a little girl who was a picky eater, stubborn, and the list goes on, she had to deal with our dog, Molly, who liked to eat everything in her path, and more! My dad was there to help too, however, my mom was who I spent most of my time with due to my dad’s work schedule!

Her contagious laugh and the love that she gave to everyone and everything, including her garden,  are just two of the hundreds of traits that she had. Nothing can ever come close to the bond I had and continue to have with mom, even though she isn’t physically here with me. I do now have a stepmother, whom I love very, very much. I feel as though my mom pulled some strings up in heaven to send her to my dad and me. She shares many similarities with my mom.

Lastly, anytime you hear the song “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” my mom is the first person I think about. I can tell you more about that later! ?

Children of Men Long Takes Compilation

So I decided to watch the film Children of Men as my second film.

I enjoyed this movie way more than Night of the Living Dead. Children of Men was very beautifully done. The message of faith and hope was really shown throughout the film. The only thing that bothered me about it was that pretty much everybody dies. I’m not a huge fan of movies, or stories, like this. However, the story was just brilliant, and I was especially a fan of the use of long takes. I know how much work gets put into long takes such as these, so all I could do was appreciate it immensely as I watched the film.

Throughout watching it, I kept thinking about what I would do my Supercut It Assignment on. I had several ideas that I could do (this includes things specifically involving characters such as smoking, alcohol, cursing, etc.), but I ultimately decided on the long takes. I think this filming technique was just really important in the feeling that the film gives the audience. There were actually quite a few of them. In my compilation I included 6 long takes. There were some more that weren’t quite as long, so I didn’t feel like I could count them, but there were quite a few instances where it amazed me it hadn’t cut yet. These 6 were the most amazing ones.

Movie Time!

This week, we continued our unit on video! One of the first assignments was to watch another apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic movie! Last week, I watched The Quiet Earth. This week, I watched a movie that I really, really enjoyed, The Day the Earth Stood Still (the 1951 version).

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this movie! As I have said before, I am not the biggest science-fiction fan, however, this movie was so good! I also have a special place in my heart for old black and white movies. My mom and I used to watch them all the time on the Turner Classic Movies channel. My favorite one was Bringing Up Baby.

Anyways, The Day the Earth Stood Still is about how a UFO lands in the middle of Washington D.C. one day. Klaatu, a ‘human’ who changes his name to Mr. Carpenter as to seem more ‘human,’ comes to Earth on behalf of the aliens in order to learn about the Earth’s humanity during the Cold War-era. His and his robot friend, Gort, seem to terrorize the city, even though they are not looking to harm anyone or anything, as long as everything goes well. Klaatu meets a family, and spends time with and befriends the young son, Bobby, who has no idea that this man is the ‘space-man’ that everyone is looking for, and is able to learn more about the world and meet some very important people. I won’t spoil too much, though! It is such a good movie! If you’ve never seen it, I strongly recommend it!

After watching this movie, I completed a video assignment to go along with the movie! I chose to do the assignment, Character/Genre Song Mashup, from the assignment bank. Basically, I took different scenes of Klaatu and Gort from this film, and interspersed scenes and clips of other futuristic/alien films and TV shows, such as The JetsonsLilo and StitchStar Trek, and Wall-E, and set it all to two songs that I think mesh well with this content/genre. The songs I chose were “Radioactive” by Imagine Dragons and “Pompeii” by Bastille. I do not own these songs or these movies/TV-shows that were included in this video.

Take a look!

I hope you enjoyed it! Let me know what you think!
