Watch a Movie/Make a Movie

I watched Night of the Living Dead

My initial reaction when I opened the film was that it was xtra creepy because it was in black and white. Also bless tht it was free.

the movie is based on a zombie/ flesh-eating theme where the humans are trapped inside the house and need to keep the zombies from getting in in order to stay alive. ive actually played many video games where they copied the premise of the movie. I found it interesting how the “Leader” Ben tries to keep everyone safe even though he stays alive the longest.

also side note, why are all apocalyptic leaders named ben i.e the guy in Lost…

Anyways, this movie felt doomed to begin with because even if they kept them out of the house, they had no food source so they were going to starve anyways.

so this is the movie on youtube cut up with White Iverson// Post Malone in the background

Did Someone Say Spaceship: Watch a movie make a movie

Assignment: Watch a Movie/Make a Movie

I chose the movie “The Day the Earth Stood Still” as my second movie that I watched.  As I have never seen this movie before I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happened.  The copy that I was able to attain was through YouTube.  Due to copyright infringements I think the people that had posted this movie had distorted it a bit as to not infringe upon these copyright laws.  Other than the movie being a little off center and there being what looked like small boxes on the screen the movie was pretty good.  This movie was created back in 1951 but some of the techniques they used to film this, were ahead of their time.

After watching this movie I see that nothing has changed.  Shoot first, ask questions later.  The townspeople had shot the alien from a distant planet before he could get out what he wanted to say, typical Americans.  These aliens from far away had learned English from the radio broadcasts from the United Nations, I’m sure that you can’t do this anymore with strict laws that are out there.  I was ever so glad when the man/alien had escaped.  And that he offered the kid some fine ass diamonds for $2.00, where do I get a hook up like this?  Just like in the movie the world super powers are making atomic bombs threatening to use them against each other.  Like I said this movie was made in 1951, yet these same topics are still relevant today, nations at odds with each other.  It took someone such as this alien to make the world see that their hatred for one another would only lead to disaster.  Overall a good movie.

I did the “Supercut It” assignment to go with the movie,  I ended up using the word “ship or spaceship” because I felt it was the most used word within the whole movie.  I felt that we could not forget the real question.  Why was the spaceship here?   I ended up using the 4k Downloader to intially get the movie and edited through the program Open Shot, as this was my 3rd or 4th video edited, I was able to move through the process quite quickly.  Here is my clip below:

The Marshmallow Men

I told a story using flashcards! I have seen flashcard stories, but they have always been extremely sad and personal stories. This assignment allowed for any kind of story, so I made one up. I wrote whatever came to me first, and I must have been hungry because it ended up being about food! Once the script was written on Word, I grabbed a marker and index cards and wrote everything down! I regret not writing a bit larger, but I think everything can be clearly read.

Recording was simple enough, and I downloaded the audio from FreeSound, but something strange happened when I tried to save what I had on iMovie. The original video file disappeared (okay, I probably deleted it, but I didn’t see it in my trash), and the iMovie was failing to save my final product. I had already crumbled up the index cards, so I did not want to record it again. I eventually realized that I could make the video full screen within iMovie since I could still preview it there, and I recorded my screen so that I had a new file of the video. When I added the audio to the new video file, it worked!

The story is silly, but editing took a lot longer than I thought it would considering that I only had to add two audio clips to the video!

5 Q’s & 5 A’s with the Great Vanessa!!!

Assignment: 10 Apocalyptic Questions

I chose the 5 questions I felt I could best answer out of the ten that Vanessa provided.  I used the program OpenShot to splice and dice and input my videos in where they needed to be.  I think I was making this a little harder than it should have been at the beginning.  I was not only writing down a small script to keep my thoughts together but I was also writing down the stop and start times of each question and the times throughout the video that I wanted to eventually cut.  This process took a little longer than I had expected but once I got the ball rolling it was on downhill from there. Here is my Q & A session with Vanessa I hope you enjoy:

Here was a little of the editing I did to come up with my end product:

Easter Egg Letter

I decided to complete the moving object assignment! The directions specified using Vine, which I have never used before. When I searched for it in the app store, there was only Vine Camera. Apparently Vine is gone! I used the Vine Camera app to create this short video, and it was a lot more difficult than I thought it would be! I wanted to tie this assignment into my group’s radio show, so I printed out the letter Alex wrote for Carson right before her death after I converted the font to something more similar to handwriting. I then went outside to make it look as though the paper were falling down. The only problem? It is currently windy outside, and the paper goes flying without me doing anything other than recording, which was not the assignment!

I still wanted to use this paper, but now it was wrinkled and I was not sure how a paper can just move by itself inside. Then, I remembered that I found half of an easter egg yesterday, and they’re round! I twisted this random easter egg I found to become symbolic. The letter is referenced several times in the Apocalyptic Airwave radio show before it is revealed what the paper means or says, so it’s sort of like an easter egg that you find in games! Only we eventually tell you, so I’m not so sure it counts as one.

It took me about four tries to record this four-second video. On the last try, I propped up my phone (the camera was moving before between scenes, which took away from the effect) and it turned out much better than my previous attempts! Of course, as I am typing this, I realized that the first scene is leftover from my previous attempt (Oh, the pain of learning a new app!) If I were to redo this assignment, that is what I would change. However, it is otherwise perfect and is much better than my other attempts (and I already uploaded it to YouTube) so I will not redo it. Reminder to self: watch the replay on your camera roll, not in the Vine Camera app where you think the leftover is just from my previous attempt. It was also difficult for the egg to appear as if it were rolling because the paper caused it to tilt in a direction I didn’t want it to. Each snippet took a while to try to keep the egg still, but I think it looks like it’s really rolling!

I initially thought it was funny that this assignment was 3.5 stars because it seemed so simple! However, it was more difficult than I expected it to be; though I am happy with the outcome.

Alt-F4 Lip Sync

I decided to undertake the Lip Sync Along assignment and tie it in to our radio show and The End.

I really wanted to download everyone’s radio show and do a little bit of all of them, but when I couldn’t immediate download all of them I started working on my own. It took a lot longer that I originally thought, by cutting the radio into the audio I wanted, planning the shots I’ll take, memorizing my lines, shooting, and editing, it had been a good number of hours and I was dead tired. I couldn’t see myself spending literal days doing some of everyone’s. I am really proud of the product, though it still blows my mind that so much work only ended up being a video less than a minute long.

It was so much fun recording, but it usually took multiple takes to get the shot just right, so I felt the need to take the left over files and make a blooper reel. Please enjoy.

Baby, baby, baby

I chose Children of Men as my second movie. This was about a world in which everyone is infertile, and no babies have been born in eighteen years. Britain is the only country that has a high standard of living, and immigration is greatly looked down upon. However, a woman who is not a British citizen becomes pregnant and has to find a way onto a ship to escape to safety. The people she originally thought were helping her ended up wanting to use the infant as a symbol for their revolution, which they termed The Uprising. A man, Theo, then journeys with the new mother to save her child. I found this movie interesting, and can see it happening in the not so distant future. Although, I think that if someone were pregnant in a world without infants, she would not be fearful of her citizenship status. Being taken advantage of is one thing, but the government would probably see that baby as a prized possession, much like Baby Diego was.

I completed the “Supercut It” assignment to go with the movie, and used the word “baby” because of how often I noticed them saying it. As I pieced together every time they said baby, I discovered that those one-second snippets reveal the plot of the story in themselves by the urgency in which the word is being said. While I am mostly happy with the outcome of the video, there were some difficulties creating it.

I was only able to watch the movie on StarzEncore (or something like that. I do not often use an actual TV, but I was unable to stream it on my computer), so I had to record the TV. This caused difficulties such as the audio being quieter, and a glare. I tried to fix the glare by blocking off the windows with blankets (as the curtains are partially see-through), but that still left some light on the screen. Although, it was not nearly as noticeable as it had been before.

I also faced the issue of my dogs barking every time any creature with four legs was on the screen, so they eventually found themselves locked in my room for about ten minutes while I finished recording.

If I could change anyway, I would find some way to record the TV directly so the problems that come with recording a TV with a cellphone wouldn’t be there.

Chipmunk Ben Wyatt and Ron Swanson

I chose to do the Chipmunk Style assignment and it was the best stress reliever I could have had this week.

I didn’t know what show or movie I should have done for this assignment, so I asked my roommate. The first thing she thought of was “anything Ron Swanson and/or Jean-Ralphio”.

So, these majestic videos were born (yes I made multiple, it was just too funny not to). I’m afraid Jean-Ralphio didn’t make it in, but these ended up perfectly nonetheless.

I used this video of every single time Ben looks into the camera on Parks & Rec. I edited it down to what I thought were the best moments, but props to the person who made this video in the first place.

I used Windows Movie Maker, since I only needed to do simple cuts and to speed things up. I didn’t want to get my videos taken down by NBC, so I mixed up the names to trick the system. Let’s hope they stay up.

I made the following two videos of Ron Swanson and his glorious self using the many emotions of Ron Swanson and Ron Swanson’s best moments.

Count to Ten and do it All Over Again!!!!!!

This week was probably one of the hardest weeks yet for me.  I won’t say it’s hard due to the work load, but last Thursday a good family friend had passed away.  Due to this family friend being so close to our family it was only right for me to get in my car and drive the 9 hrs 30 minutes to Indiana for the viewing/funeral this past weekend.  Due to the driving and due to the chaos that took place because of said situation I was unable to get anything done nor find anytime to do this weeks workload in peace in quiet.  Plus it is kind of hard to edit videos and watch clips when your going 70 mph down the Interstate.  So here I am on Monday catching up on all the work after a very long weekend.  I would say that I didn’t get to dive in and be creative as I normally am due to my time constraints over this past weekends events.  I feel that my work is ok but I felt that it was a little rushed to ensure that it was all done.  I look forward to next weeks video assignments so that way I can hopefully dive in a little deeper and make slightly better products than I did this week.  Here are the things I had created below:

I decided to do th the daily create Fantasy Plants.   My fantasy plant is a flying Hibiscus flower that flies to the bees and then eats the bees after being pollinated.  It’s a roughly life for a bee I must say.

What can I say I love to travel to the busy streets of New York.  I love how the buildings all have a story to tell, with the wind blowing off of them.

My Media Assignments

I decided to do the college collage assignment.  I decided to do this assignment as my college experiences haven’t been the same as your typical college student in the past few years.  In my slide show I incorporated my family in most of my pictures because they have been the driving force to get me to the end.  While I have been attending UMW over the past year and half almost two years, I have got out of the Army, had a son, and been able to expand my family here in Virginia.  The pictures in my end product seemed to flip when I uploaded it through YouTube, but I left them this way because it is different and shows character.

I chose to do this media assignment to show the background story of Mufasa and how he came to be the protective wolf that Carson Gordon had rescued.  This clip shows Mufasa’s transformation from a pup to an adult, I really loved the sound clip I found for Mufasa’s photo opp, I hope you do as well.

Reading Movies Blog Post

Here is the clip for my video essay for the movie “The night of the walking Dead”, I tried to point out some of the tips that I had read in Ebert’s article about how to read a movie.  I had never seen this movie up until this point and I quite enjoyed it.  I highly recommend it!!

10 Questions for the Apocalypse Answered

I was having a hard time figuring out what to do that tied into the radio shows until I found 10 Apocalyptic Questions!!

This fit perfectly and I was able to still play the character I created for my radio show!! Erin made a comeback and she is here talking about the strangeness involving her daughter’s disappearance and how she has been feeling recently!

I used iMovie to make this!
