Newspaper day in 60 seconds

My second assignment was a lot of fun. I decided to do the 60-second day video and chose to do it on a Wednesday because that is when The Blue & Gray Press is made. The newspaper takes up my entire day for the most part and that is definitely reflected in this video where all I do is read and edit articles or look at them on my computer. I also read a lot for class and worked on other homework on my computer, including watching the Wire. The other major aspect of the video is my food intake, which is constant. Wednesdays are typically my most unhealthy day just so I can focus on my work and the paper and get things done.

This is my weekly story, and the story of my whole staff on the paper. Try to understand all of the hell that actually occurs in between these one second shots, that will be my true day.

Picture Story

This assignment was really fun! I was browsing the video assignment bank when I saw it. I immediately started asking my friends around me for words. I didn’t tell them what it was for so I could make it better. It actually came out as a small story, which I was impressed!

The hardest part of completing this assignment was that Movie Maker kept crapping out on me! I found all the pictures online, saved them, then uploaded them to Movie Maker. After I had it all set up and tried to save, some of the pictures went gray with a little yellow triangle and a exclamation mark inside. I gave up and completed the assignment again on a friends computer. It took a little longer than expected to complete it, but oh well!

The words I started out with in order are five, chrysanthemum, hockey, flag, blue, fan, turns

Vine It!

This assignment was pretty easy. The hardest part was deciding what to take video of. All I did was download the app on my iPhone, set up an account, and record! I then uploaded it straight to twitter and embedded the tweet into this blog post!

Name that book!

For my first assignment I chose the “name that book” assignment. I used Vine to create three images that correspond with the three main words of a book title as follows: The _____ of _____ ______. It was easy to make and fun to think of ways to express the book title. Good luck figuring it out!

What the Bleep?

Original Scene from The Wire

I found the That Bleeping Censor Assignment, and I really wanted to do it. I of course immediately thought of the scene from season 1 of The Wire, where McNulty and Bunk are investigating an old crime scene, and the only phrases they say the whole scene are “fuck,” “mother fucker,” “mother f,” “what the fuck,” etc. I got a copy of the scene from youtube here, embedded below. I downloaded it, and then used this tutorial to figure out how to censor audio on iMovie (I’m still not sure this is the best way but it wasn’t hard so it worked). I then used iMovie, and using the bleeping sounds provided by the tutorial, I muted the cuss words, and put the bleeping sounds over them. This was a very fun scene to work on because the amount of cuss words I had to censor out. There were parts where the dialogue was “fuck” said about 10 times very quickly. Instead of having a series of little bleeps, which hurt my head to listen to, I had one long bleep. Enjoy!

“Thoughts On A Better Future”

For my third video assignment I decided to change it up a little bit. I did the assignment called Where Do You Want To Go (3 stars). The original version called for pictures of the place you wanted to go to and music that had ties to that place. I remembered that I had to incorporate The Wire into one of my assignments this week so I decided to do pictures from the series.

I had to go through multiple episodes to find the pictures. I really tried to grab pictures of the most important characters and that probably was the hardest part. I used a screenshot editor called Skitch to grab screenshots and crop them and that was really tiring. I had a specific order that I wanted the pictures to be shown in in my head but it didn’t work out like that. I used the Youtube slideshow maker and that randomized all of my pictures which really wasn’t a bad I thing and I actually think it helped a lot. I waned to use Baltimore club music but I could only use what was given so I went with old school funk because it fit the best with the slideshow. I think it came together really well. Check it out and let me know what you think.

“Couldn’t Help But Notice Your Views”

For my second video assignment I decided to do the Today It’s All About Me assignment (3 stars). When I first saw the assignment and its description, I automatically thought that I was going to do this assignment. I immediately began to think about what I could possibly say about myself and then I got down to it.

It only took my one shot to record this assignment. I was thinking about what I saw the first person do in the video on the assignment page and decided that I wanted to be a little different. SO instead of just talking about myself I started to boast and gloat because you usually don’t do that in front of people because it’s rude. I really had a hard time not laughing while I was doing this assignment. I just thought about what my closest friends would think if they heard me doing this and it was so hard not to laugh. I had a lot of fun doing this assignment so take a look and let me know what you think.

“Your Voice I Still Hear It”

For my first video assignment I decided to do the What’s your Skills assignment (4.5 stars). For this assignment you had to record or make a video of yourself showing off you talent. After thinking about doing an assignment where you had to mesh to videos together and figuring that it would be too hard to do, I finally decide that this would be the first video assignment I did. I recorded myself at least 7 times because I was so nervous.

My talent is rapping. It’s something that I do often but it takes a little bit to get me in my element. SO for the first few videos I did I wasn’t really comfortable. I had to keep telling myself to imagine that I was doing it for fun with my friends and started to visualize the ds106 community as my friends so I could finally get to where I finished. I’m sorry about the audio the first time i played it back it sounded a lot better but I didn’t really know how to fix it. I’m sorry and hope you can understand what I’m saying. Let me know what you think.

AMV’s? What is it, 2005?

Ah animated music videos. Brings back memories of my early teenage years. When I saw this was a possible video assignment, I just had to go for it. I used scenes from The Legend of Korra along with the brilliant song “The Beginning is the End is the Beginning” by Smashing Pumpkins. This song just seems to give off this vibe of confusion and ominous tidings, and I tried to get that across with the chaos of the video. I also juggled the emotions of despair and recovery towards the end.

VLC media player has a wonderful function to record short video segments and export them into their own separate clips. I used Windows Movie Maker to edit the scenes, trimming them and arranging them into a suitable order. I also used it to import the song I chose. Most of the process was just tedious editing of scenes, making sure the transitions between them flowed well, and nothing looked choppy. It was fun trying to get the audio and video this mesh together.  Hope you enjoy it! I put a lot of emotion into this.

Omar The Chipmunk

For this video assignment I completed Chipmunk Style. I accidentally used a scene from episode 11. I was just so into the show I just kept pushing next without realizing what I was watching. It was from the very beginning of the episode so it does not spoil anything big. I first downloaded the clip then extracted the audio. I then used audacity to increase the pitch. Next I imported it back into windows live movie maker and just lined up the sound with the clip. It was a simpler assignment but turned out pretty funny.
