In the Unlikely Event…

http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/survival-video/

When I saw this assignment in the bank, my mind immediately began to think of a bunch of “highly unlikely moments.” Thankfully, I still had my computer up, and I’m now making use of a vimeo account (which apparently needs roughly about 40 minutes to compress a video). I rather enjoyed this one.

So the idea of an inanimate object attack came to mind when I thought of previous shows/movies. The two that came to mind was the movie Small Soldiers and the episode of Futurama where the robots rebelled. While there are a ton of things you could do, I thought about this, specifically if you were on campus (otherwise I would have mentioned use of more actual dangerous tools, rather than what I mentioned).

Anyways, this was all done for the sake of goofing around, so I hope you enjoyed it!

Let me know what you think!

Chipmunk Style

So for the assignment Chipmunk Style (2 1/2 Stars), I decided to use the Paper Bag speech from season 3 episode 2 of the Wire. I decided to use this scene because it was a serious part of the season and I thought this would be an interesting take on this part! I saw Brittany’s post Stringer and Avon Fighting Chipmunk Style and I knew I had to do this assignment! I found the clip on YouTube and used the handy dandy ClipConverter to grab the file. Here is the original:

I imported the file into iMovie. iMovie has a cool feature where you can change the audio of the project without actually changing the speed of the clip (you can also speed up the clip just like the audio). But for the sake of this assignment I only focused on changing the pitch of the audio. So when I had the entire clip in the filmstrip (and selected) I went to the three overlapping circles, and clicked on Audio Effect.

A new window popped up and I selected the Pitch Up 3.  This made the entire clip sound like a Chipmunk. I played around with different sound pitches and effects settled on pitch up 3 because it wasn’t as high as pitch up 4 and it was higher than pitch up 2, which only changed the pitch very little. The other effects are hilarious to play around with and I almost wanted to use the robot one!

I really enjoyed playing around with the different pitch effects in iMovie! Here is the final product!

I am YOU from the Future!

Today I decided to leave some advice for myself, if I could send something to the past. Anyways, this video was made using the video recorder on my laptop (I’ve been experimenting with what works better for recording today). After I recorded, I used Window’s Media player to tweak the brightness and the saturation of the video to try to make it look slightly better.

I decided to give some advice on college as I recall having some thoughts about my major. I remember not knowing what I wanted to do prior to college, and I had doubts in case I did not like the major I chose. The information in the video came to mind as I now sit back and reflect over my past years and approach the end (senioritis is beginning to set in). With that in mind, I made a shorty 46 second video.

If you watch it, let me know what you think! I’m still trying to find the best way to record decent looking videos.

Bringing Up My Past

http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/whats-your-skills/ – 4.5 Stars

Along time ago, in a year far far away, I use to take karate. I had been doing it for roughly about 8 or 9 years, and stopped after my freshman year. It has been a while since I did any of my open hand forms, but this is my 2nd open hand form. I recorded it using my camera, and did this in my dorm. No other modifications were necessary; just a camera and some light.

I decided to go with this because it was something that I use to do a lot. I had to tone the form down just so I did not hit anything in my room, so it is not at its peak. As far as the video itself, I tried putting my camera as far back as possible, but unfortunately, I still managed to get out of its view at least once. I thought this would be relatively good for this assignment, and it turned out rather well in my opinion.

Again, I’m new to this whole video thing, so it may not be the highest quality.

Hope you enjoyed the video. Let me know what you think!

Fútbol Commentators for Hockey???

This assignment was a lot of fun but took a lot of time. For the “He Could Go All The Way, Homerun” assignment I had to take highlights from one sport and then take commentating from another sport and mash them together. I wanted to choose two sports that would at least make some sense together. I decided to use NHL highlights and commentating from Soccer from around the world. A lot of the soccer commentators get really into each goal and are pretty funny. First I found some NHL highlights and put those together into a video. That part was pretty easy. The hard part was finding commentating that would work with the hockey goals. Trying to matchup the audio with the video was EXTREMELY HARD. It took a lot of time of trying different audio clips with different video clips and making sure they fit and made sense. Using windows live movie maker I was able to do all of this together. Editing the sound in windows live movie maker was challenging because once you started to cut stuff and move it around it tended to affect other clips by shortening them and moving them. They did not stay locked on the places I put them. But after a lot of time  I was able to get it to work out well. I am happy with my final outcome. I hope you all enjoy it.

Devonne Gets Shot

For my final video assignment of the week, i chose to do the “Viral Video Re-enactment” worth 3.5 stars. This seemed like a very fun assignment to do. Since my other two video assignments didn’t involve The Wire, this was perfect. The hardest part of this assignment was deciding which scene from the three episodes we watched this week to choose from. I ended going with the scene where Marlo shoots Devonne. Now, this may seem like a weird pick but i based it on the fact this scene changes everything. Once Avon finds out Marlo killed Devonne, he tells Stringer and that’s when they both realize that this terriotorial thing with Avon is not going to stop. Here’s what i did!

Filming:

My friends who live on College Ave had the perfect porch to film from. It kind of looked similar to the actual scene. So i grabbed three of my friends and we filmed this. Now, it wasn’t easy to make this EXACTLY how it was in the show, but i tried. My friend who played Marlo ended up coming from behind a car because the side of the house had construction and it didn’t flow well with the scene. Now, keep in mind that this isn’t the best production. We’re just college students who have smart phones. After we ran through this about 4 times we filmed it and i later uploaded it to youtube. That’s really the whole process to be honest. There wasn’t much to it!

The Innovation of the Telephone

The Product Evolution Assignment was in interesting on to complete. I decided to go with the evolution of the telephone. Starting from the candle stick to now the iPhone the phone has changed so much. First I completed research to see the types of phone that were being used from the beginning. Then I gathered different images to use. I used windows live movie maker to put the images together and add music. I added some transitions and themes to give the video an cooler look. At the beginning I added the Verizon “Can You Hear Me Now?” and then I used the song ‘”Kiss Me Through The Phone” instrumental for the background music. (2 Stars)

Dinner Time!

This assignment was relatively easy. The hardest part was making sure the pictures were in order on Movie Maker. I took a sequence of pictures and then uploaded them to Paint. Using Paint, I was able to add some commentary to the video to give it sort of a story line. I then uploaded the photos to Movie Maker and created the movie!

It’s Vacation Time! Video Assignment 1036

This assignment is the video assignment 1036 for 2 stars.

I chose to make a video of our 2013 vacation to the Outer Banks, NC.  I fell in love with the Outer Banks.  I loved it so much that I had to make a video of our vacation.  I felt that the Zac Brown Group’s song “Toes” was fitting music for our trip.

When making a video, it’s important to pick a good song to keep your audience’s attention.  I love to use the website video2mp3.net to change a video into a music file. I used video2mp3 to get the music for this video.  I pulled the music from Youtube in the actual video for the Zac Brown Band’s song “Toes” and downloaded it as a mp3 so that I could use it as music for my video.   I then used Microsoft Live Movie Maker to pull all of my vacation pictures and one video from our vacation. I arranged the order of the pictures by just selecting and pulling them to the location that I wanted and added a few captions to explain what we were doing.  A few pictures did require me to select the picture and rotate it’s direction. (Some pictures came over in various directions.)   I opened with the video and then faded into the song and the pictures.  I added enough pictures to use the entire song.

This is an excellent way to show off a vacation!

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

This was one of my favorite assignments to create. I (along with fellow ds106er Kisha) am on the board for the UMW consent campaign. There’s information about it in the video and you all should come take the pledge to always have consent!

I built this assignment around the “Let’s Talk About Consent” video–watch the full video here. When I was listening to it, the riff off scene from Pitch Perfect popped into my head; the one where they sing “Let’s Talk About Sex.” So I decided to do a mashup of it. I recorded my friend singing the word “consent” and added it into the riff off. I then added the part at the end using the title slides in Movie Maker.
