You Can’t Handle the Truth!

As Colonel Nathan R. Jessup in the movie A Few Good Men once said, “You can’t handle the truth!” I love the quote because of one main reason. It describes my favorite basketball player Paul Pierces nickname “The Truth”. So I did this video assignment and it was fun for me. This assignment was worth 5 stars. I created a trailer for The Wire of so far the episodes we had watch. If I chance to remake it, I would because I’ve been quite busy so far coming back home to take care of my mom and surprising my two little cousins that I did today for halloween.

Anyways, I used Windows Movie Maker to create my video. I downloaded the video from media hub to do this and it was fun. I had lots of fun doing this. I did a lot of clipping and I did the videos mostly from this weeks episode. I got a couple clips from different episodes from previous seasons. I added two audio clips which everyone had heard already. Here are the questions I have to ask:

1) What two audio clips are playing?

2) The first audio clip, everyone is able to recognize but the question is which one is it? (Hint: it’s from this weeks episodes that we had to watch)

So mainly all I did was again using Windows Movie Maker and did a lot of clipping from the episodes. Oh I got a video off the youtube which was the only perfect one I found to use for my video. Hope you guys really enjoy it! Here it is!

Silent Movie.. Fall Of A King *Spoiler Alert* Video Assignment 376

***SPOILER ALERT***Attention:  If you have not seen Episode 11 in Season 3.  Don’t Watch my Video! ***

This assignment is for “Return to the Silent Era”: Video Assignment 376 for 4.5 stars.

Okay, you’ve been warned…  This is a silent movie made to display my favorite scene in Season Three’s Episode 11.  I titled this movie, Fall Of A King.  To me, this truly is the fall of one of the Kings of The Wire.   Here is a link to my movie…

This movie was created with Windows Live Movie Maker.  With Clipconverter.cc, I was able to pull two movies from Youtube to use for this movie.  I pulled the scene titled “The Wire Clip – Omar and Mouzone take out Stringer Bell” by hoodpolitics by pasting the link into Clipconverter.  This allowed me to download the scene as a mp4.  I also searched for silent movie music on youtube.  I was able to find a song by Frances Scott Key called Sunflower Slow Drag.  I also used Clipconverter to download this clip as just a music file by downloading it as a mp3.

Once I had the movie clip and the music downloaded, I went online into pizap.com and set up a black background and added a border that I liked.  I then found a font and used it to set up each phrase that I wanted to add to the movie.  Once I had them all saved, I was ready to start the project.  I first added the movie.  I eliminated the volume so there was no “talking” on the movie.  I then watched the movie and inserted splits in the movie so that I could insert my words that had already been saved.  I then uploaded each page of words as a picture.  Since any uploaded picture goes to the end, I had to drag them into the movie split into the spot that I wanted it to go.

Next I added the music.  I had to adjust the volume and I also had to paste a second copy of the music so that there was enough to last the entire movie.  I also faded the music out the last 3 seconds of the clip.  Next, I adjusted each “word” screen to only exist for 4 seconds. (it automatically came in set up for 7 seconds)  I also added a title screen that would fade out, and added an ending.

I could have never done this without Meredith Fierro!  Thank you so much for working with me in the tutoring center!  If you need help,  She Rocks!  :)

Save the Cows!

For this assignment a public service announcement was created. I had a lot of trouble thinking of what to do for this one. So a friend gave me the idea of creating it with this cow video.

Process:

I searched for this cow video that I saw a while ago with the running and jumping in the fields. I then uploaded it to iMovie and trimmed it. So then I google images of unhappy and abused cows, not a pretty sight but I kept is PG rated. So I placed those in front of the happy cow video, and added background music called Memorial.

Then I had to add title slides introducing the video and then I added questions before the sad and after, also I placed one at the end.

Hope you enjoy!

The Game

For this assignment, I took related clips from The Wire and put them together. Of course when I thought of something that reoccured in The Wire throughout all season is the game.  So here, I focused on people talking about the game.

Process:

I searched for youtube clips to upload into iMovie

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cryMVK1PwuQ
  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwogM2DL99o
  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaA0nmn8_fk
  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSXm4FUmE5g

I then uploaded them into iMovie and trimmed down the unnecessary parts to the clips. This was so simple and straightforward to do.

Then I added a title slide by clicking the title button down in the left hand corner and added the title slide.

Silly dogs!

This assignment was to create a 5 second frame. Here I created a film, debuting my dogs! One thing my parents do not like that I do with them, is feed them human food. One day at dinner, I told my parents I taught them to eat corn off the cob. They didn’t believe me, so we proved it!

Process:

I recorded the videos on my phone and then uploaded them to iMovie.

Once they were in iMovie I trimmed them both to make the video under 5 seconds. Then I decided to put some background music, to make it a little more interesting. I added Neon, which was already preloaded in iMovie. Then I hit share to vimeo!

Omar Little-Pumped Up Kicks [CONTAINS WIRE SPOILERS]

I made a music video for the song Pumped Up Kicks by Foster the People that features scenes with Omar Little from The Wire. This assignment was worth 5 stars. I found a compilation of scenes of Omar on Youtube that was originally fourteen minutes long. I downloaded it as well as downloaded the song “Pumped Up Kicks.”  Then I imported both of those into iMovie. Next, I went through the compilation to cut out the parts that I didn’t think were as intimidating as some of the other parts. I had to basically cut out ten minutes of the compilation in order for it to match up with the length of the song.  After I found the clips I wanted to use, I try to make some of the parts sync up with the lyrics. I couldn’t do this very well for the first two verses of the song, but I got the bridge to match up nicely with the clip I chose. For example, “run, run, run, run” with the boys on the street running from Omar, the whistling in the song matching up with the scene where Omar actually whistled, and “bullet” as the last word lines up with Stringer being shot. What I thought was going to be a somewhat easy assignment turned into slightly a pain to work out, but I’m glad I stuck with it and tried to make I envisioned happen!

Backwards Shootout

For my third assignment of the week, I decided to do the Play it Backwards assignment, worth 2 stars. I decided to do a scene from The Wire, and I wanted to take a sad scene and make it happy. I used the shootout scene from season 2 episode 9, where the little boy is killed by a stray bullet. I imported the episode into iMovie, trimmed it down to just the scene I wanted and then reversed it, so that the scene starts with the little boy dead, but ends with him having breakfast. The scene is weirdly funny backwards, because there is a lot of backwards running and everyone sounds like they are speaking simish (as in the language in Sims).

What Makes Me Happy?

For my final video assignment this week I did “This Is My Story” (3 stars). I chose this one because I have, oddly enough, always wanted to make one of these videos where I tell my story through writing even though it is on video. The hardest part was choosing a topic to talk about. I thought about doing my life story but that’s really just boring since I have lived one place my whole life and only have one sister and had a boring, school-focused life until college. So I decided to go with what makes me happy. Obviously this is the short list of what makes me happy. I could have gone on all day but I figured I should keep it relatively short and sweet and to the point.

How I did it:

I first figured out what I was going to write and wrote it on note cards in fairly neat handwriting using marker so it was easier to read. I then opened up Cyberlink YouCam (my webcam). I knew the video would show up backwards but I recorded it anyway. I was hoping I could flip it somehow. After I recorded it, I opened the file in Windows Live Movie Maker. I then looked under “Visual Effects” and there was a “Flip horizontally” one so I did that and voila, my note cards were readable. I then chose a song that I thought would go along well with this theme and I chose “Doin’ What She Likes” by Blake Shelton. I imported it and I figured out at what point I wanted to start the song. I decided to start it at :19 when he starts singing. It also happens to cut off close to the end of a line so that was nice too. Once that was done I saved the movie “For computer” and changed it from WMV to MP4 using zamzar.com and downloaded it so I could put it on here.

Here is my video, I hope you like it:

Wow, Was High School Really Four Years Ago??

For my second video assignment for this week I did “High School Memories” (4.5 stars). I thought this would be a fun assignment to do, especially being able to reflect on my high school years. No, they weren’t the best four years of my life but I did have a lot of fun while they lasted. I also worked very hard during high school (and had the GPA to show for it) but that didn’t leave a whole lot of room for a social life. Luckily I was able to set aside enough time–especially junior and senior year–to have fun with my friends. I don’t regret it one bit.

How I did it:

Since I did not have this computer in high school, all of my pictures are at home and on Facebook. So I went on Facebook and went through the pictures that I am tagged in and saved the memorable ones. I then went through my pictures that I have posted. Unfortunately I couldn’t figure out how to save a video from Facebook (if someone can enlighten me I would be more than happy to re-make my video with some videos in it). When I was done going through Facebook, I opened all of the pictures in Windows Live Movie Maker. I then figured out how to group them so it would make the most sense. I rearranged the pictures so they would be in that order. I then added title slides to each section so people wouldn’t be confused and it also kind of breaks up the pictures rather than having just 78 pictures straight for three and a half minutes. I then went to “Animations” and clicked on “Automatic Pan and Zoom” which picks a pan or zoom type for each picture. I decided to do this because just looking at pictures stationary for three and a half minutes was boring. I also didn’t want to make it the same animation for each slide so I decided to do the random one. I then saved the video “For Computer” and went to zamzar.com to convert it to MP3 from WMV. This video took a lot longer to convert and download than my other one did, likely because the amount of files that are in it.

It also would not let me direct upload to here so I had to put it up on YouTube first. It was 2MB too big >:(

Here is my video, I hope you enjoy it!

McNulty Sets Fire to the Rain

I decided to do the Create a Music Video assignment using clips from The Wire. I was inspired to pair clips of McNulty being McNulty with Adele’s “Set Fire to the Rain” after Freamon asked McNulty if he has to set fire to everything. I instantly thought of the song and knew that I had to pair the two together at some point in time.

I found all the clips on YouTube, as I figured the best of the best would be shared there and it would beat sifting through hours and hours of the episodes we’ve already watched. I also got Adele’s song from YouTube. I used clip converters to get the mp3 and the mp4s. I then imported them all into iMovie and trimmed and arranged them as they seemed to fit.
