Okay. I’m gonna admit something. I haven’t laughed this hard in a long time. This assignment was absolutely hilarious! Hearing people’s sounds was awesome. People were incredibly creative and surprised me!
Here’s my rendition:
Here are the sound clips I chose to use:
It took me only a few minutes to find the song I wanted to use.
Oogie Boogie’s Song is one of my favorite songs, and it fit the upbeat movie I was trying to create.
My story was that a date had gone awry, and the guy was trying to escape her. Only problem is he got lost in the circus and was run into the lion’s cage! He’s scared and trying to escape, the girl finds him and is slightly angry that he left her. Once she’s there, though, he gains a little confidence at her fainting. He’s stronger than any ole lion! He suddenly finds the courage to face the lion (sort of) then shows off to win her favor again.
…the lion sleeps tonight! Well, except in this case! As apart of video week, we had to take our classmates Charlie Chaplin Foley sounds (see here for previous work!) and put it into the video. This is what the past couple of weeks was working to get us to work towards, and be able to do with ease. Easy work, right? NOPE, definitely harder than it seems. So I’ll give you the step by step of how it got done!
1. KEEPVID! Honestly, the best website for video assignments! i used it to download The Lion’s Cage, which took about five seconds. I’ve used it in just about every single assignment thus far, but no shame in my game! it makes things a lot easier (but ha! take that Youtube, you can’t keep us down! )
2. I used iMovie to detach the audio, it was easy enough! It’s also one of the best things about having iMovie, I’m not sure if PC’s offer this but if not, then you are surely missing out. Before knowing this option, i used to manually strip it but it wouldn’t always work.
3. I downloaded the links of the ones that I thought fit best into the video, even though they were all really good! I had to go back and replace some but overall, I didn’t have trouble finding good enough ones! ( I used 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6!)
3. The video stillll seemed too plain, so I downloaded additional soundtracks from TheEarlyCinema on Youtube!
4. Since I downloaded videos, I had to use keepvid again in order to detach the audio and use it! But keepvid was nice to me and didn’t argue Here’s my work in progress:
At first, I had to play around with the music because it wasn’t meshing well with the scenes but then finally I found out through iMovie how to lower the music and be able to hear the sounds. I think the music does what it’s suppose to; it compliments the scenes perfectly. We learned that music can either be your best friend or your worst enemy. I think I did an accurate job getting the two to come together and really make the video. I even renamed it in the beginning to add some originality to my clip! Here’s my clip and how I decided to re-assemble it all! ALSO, please be sure to let me know what you think of the music and whether it adds or takes away from the scene:
but let’s be honest as to what’s going on:
This is Peter. Peter’s surprising his girlfriend, Annie, at the circus where she helps take care of the animals. All the animals adore her so they’re a little bit jealous of Peter and never really treat him nicely when he comes to visit. But can he blame them? They freakin’ love her! One day they just decide to play with Peter a little bit, and well, Andy the donkey got a little carried away but how did he know Peter would end up in Goliath’s cage? Good thing it was Goliath’s nap time but with any wrong step..Well, Peter would wake him! So he had to be super careful, and he was..Until he decided that visiting Tiana the Tiger would be smart; he got lucky though on this day because her usually ear splinting roars didn’t wake Goliath..neither did Marty’s yapping! Marty’s always trying to get Peter in trouble, and even as Annie sees this, she still does not take Peter’s side, instead, she laughs in amusement at both sides! But Annie was so distracted by the two that she didn’t notice Goliath right there, and she usually isn’t so close to him because he still scares her. Peter’s trying hard to not to be loud to wake her, so what does he do? SPLASH HER, what a gentlemen, huh? Well that doesn’t wake Annie up. Nope, instead, Peter turns around just to see Goliath wake up and realize…Butter knives are more threatening! Especially since Goliath is so docile and no one ever gives him a chance to show them that. Annie misses that bit as she gets up but she does make sure to give Peter a good scolding, even though he tries to play coy around Goliath. However, no one messes with Goliath, he is the king of the jungle and gives Peter a run for his money with one good roar. Peter so far so fast that he ends up on the top of the pole, and won’t come down until Annie promises him that she’ll quit her job, which she refuses but then Peter realizes he’s afraid of heights and comes down. He realizes that if he loves Annie enough to put up with her job. THE END.
That’s how this is done, FOLEY STYLE! I really enjoyed how we recorded this a couple weeks ago and it wasn’t swept under the rug and instead it was brought back. It was an awesome way to really mix audio, and video together but having to use our wits to really get it going. I liked having to download each bit but also stripping the original piece to make it into one! I hope we do something similar to this again but it was fun to gel so many classmates together and really be able see what everyone is capable of!
I just watch the beginning of the Movie Awards and Rebel was hosting it (Fat Amy form Pitch Perfect) and then it hit me for my last thing I am going to do something with her in it. My public service announcement is about herpes because it is a sexual transmitted disease  that can be infected many different ways. I thought that it would be a funny and serious way to get the point across. I used a scene from Pitch Perfect and Get Him to the Greek. trimmed them and but them together using movie maker.
I had no homework to do really and my friend needed to focus so I told her that she has to do her work for at least 30 minutes straight so we will both benefit I would get video of someone doing work and she will do her work. A win win situation . So all I did was record her got in way in the beginning and then just sped it up in movie maker. I do not know why it looks all choppy though I think it is my computer is just slow or does it do it on all of them?
I loved doing this because I loved this movie. I just seen Oz the Great and Powerful and I loved it like forreal forreal it was amazing I think everyone should see it. I used this scene:
I took a scene with the witches talking back and forth I had to write the script down so I knew what to say and when. I used Audacity and Windows movie maker to complete this project. I took the sound from the the scene and split apart the part when each of them were talking. I keep the background music by using the effect on the Audacity which removes the vocal so therefore it would make it seem like I was really in the movie!! I layered the sound and picture in Movie Maker and this is what I got.
For my last video assignment, I created a 30 Second Documentary on something that I’m bad at doing. Â I’m not sure why this assignment was rated 4.91 stars, because it literally took me 5 minutes to do, but it was a nice way to finish off video week.
I’m usually pretty good about doing my laundry, but I almost NEVER fold it, and when I do, I just whip it together to make it somewhat fit in the dresser. Â My video is a little over 30 seconds and it shows me half-heartedly folding my laundry. Â I didn’t realize until after I finished filming and uploading the video to YouTube, that I have a huge hole in my shorts. Â That’s pretty embarrassing but what’re you gonna do. We’re all human and besides, I’m a broke college student.
While deciding to conquer her studies out in the warm Spring sun one afternoon, with Ghost sleeping lazily next to her, the Fandom Princess heard a very loud and obnoxious sort of croak. She sat up straight from the tree which she was leaning against and turned her head left, then right. Seeing nothing, she shrugged and leaned back against the tree trunk to look through her scrolls.
A moment later, she heard the loud croak again. This time, she checked up as well as side to side.
âPrincess,â a deep voice said from her left.
She jumped and turned to the source of the voice. She looked down, and to her surprise, saw a very large, round, toad sitting atop of a round rock. The toad looked at her and grinned, if it was possible for toads to do so.
The Princess rolled her scroll back up and tilted her head to the side. âI donât believe Iâve had the pleasure of meeting you before, kind sir. Who might you be?â
The toad croaked as if to clear his throat, and then said very properly, âI am Harold, the Great, and I am looking for a maiden to kiss me so that I may be human once again.â
The Princess raised one of her eyebrows. âOh, how dreadfully awful. Now, I must ask, what ever did you do to become a toad like this? And then, if it pleases you, I shall help you find a willing maiden to kiss you.â
Harold hopped up and down on the rock happily before croaking and saying, âIt was an evil witch way in the west woods. I was traveling with my companions and got separated from them. Since I was hungry and saw a garden of growing vegetables, I decided to take a carrot, and planned on leaving some money behind as penance. She didnât like that one bit, and the next thing I knew, I didnât have human legs anymore.â
The Princess gasped. She had heard of evil witches in the woods, but had the fortunate good luck of never happening upon one in her adventures. Her heart went out to poor Harold, in any case, and she put her scroll down next to Ghost, who hadnât stirred from his slumber.
âMy dear Harold,â the Princess began. âOf course I shall help you find a maiden desiring enough to kiss you. If I didnât have my dearest Fandom Prince, I would, but alas, I shall find you someone who is capable of loving you!â
And with that, she held out her left palm to allow for the large, cold Harold to hop into her hand, as they set out towards the castle to get a few supplies.
This next video assignment, titled This is My Story, allowed me to make a video entirely made up of note cards (which I found I had none of– I settled on post-it notes). The assignment was pretty easy, but I wanted to make it different since I had already done an assignment that focused heavily on me.
I decided to do a video about me telling about not a random story, or what happened in the day, but about someone who means a lot to me; my sister, Courtney. You see, she’s leaving to go to college in a few months, and since I graduate from my university in less than a month (yikes!) I don’t know how often I’ll be able to see her. This scares me a little, so recently I’ve been acting like a complete sappy pants and making gifts for her and telling her how much I love her and all that fun stuff. This video I plan on sending to her. I hope she likes it. It’s nothing too spectacular, but I hope it’s personal enough that it makes you guys enjoy watching it:
That’s 70s show I do not know how you did it but you guys deserves a round of applause HAHA honestly that is the only thing I have to say about this assignment and what I did with my friends. I was laughing the entire time. I got something in my eye it was just weird. We talked about what ever popped into our head and it had to come to sexual related questions and I think that this has a lot to tell you about how the world is today. I feel like now a days all the media or magazines talk about sex and make jokes about it when it is more of a serious matter. I feel like every time I look at my newsfeed on Facebook or look at Twitter everyone is talking about they are having a baby or their little sister is having a baby and I am like seriously this needs to end now! These children are having children. But you know me and my friends take it as a joke and here is the video all I did was take a video of everyone talking… it was trying to be a circle passing thing but that stopped because it got too seriously funny to drop and we did not want to break the video camera.
Probably one of my all time favorite Disney lines is that title. Who doesn’t love a good forced pun being said by the odd muse out? But seriously, Hercules is super dreamy. I mean who doesn’t love a modest super hero son of a god? Come on, it’s not even fair. Plus you can total tell that he is sincere with the way that he treats his princess, Meg. He is just immediately blown away by her looks, I mean who wouldn’t be? Her hair is flawless and when she turns around she disappears for a second because she is THAT skinny. Seriously, it’s ridiculous. But I always loved the scene where they first met. I’m not sure if it’s because it reminds me of me when I met my first boyfriend (is this tmi? oh well). But just seeing someone and getting too nervous you can’t even speak. That’s how Herc feels (I like to think that we are on an abbreviated name status). Want to see if for yourself? Check out this clip that I used for my assignment (which I will explain in a jiff).
So what am I doing for this? The four star Hitch cut assignment of course!! Still need more elaboration? Well the general idea is pretty simple. You show a character’s look, then show what they are looking at, and then cut to their reaction. Then the real fun starts. You change what they saw in the beginning. Changes the whole meaning of the clip, and can sometimes make people look pretty bad (but Hercules never could look bad)!
So what is the opposite of skinny little Meg? Well Hades of course! The villain who turns from ice to fire when he gets mad certainly is different than Meg and all of her feminine wiles. So here was my final result:
Pretty awesome right? I know that it was supposed to only be looks, but I decided to keep Hercules’ stuttering in because it shows his shyness in talking to Meg, but then later can be used to show him being scared of Hades. It’s just interesting to see a hero being afraid of a villain in a Disney movie since usually they always seem so strong. Not so strong anymore, not are you Herc?? However, once I decided to keep the sound in, I decided to keep it in for Hades as well, just to show that there was a conversation going on between the two of them. I had a lot of options to pick from with this clip, but ended up going with the first freak out from this long list of them.
Now I needed some background music!! What kind of movie doesn’t have music?? Exactly. We need music. So of course I went to the songs from Hercules and decided to go with Meg’s song of “I Won’t Say I’m In Love” in which she realizes that she loves Hercules. I listened to the song about 4 times (because who doesn’t love a great singing session) and decided to go with a part in which she says “this scene won’t play” while the beginning of the Hades clip starts. While it’s a small detail that no one would have caught, I thought it was pretty clever myself. Â I guess Meg is scared of falling in love, Hercules in now scared of Hades, and that’s just how it all panned out once Hitch’s cut was performed.
Once again, I made this in Windows Movie Maker, it was seriously such a headache to work with, but I’ll explain that in my weekly summary. This was pretty easy with just importing the clips and then from there adding the soundtrack, I really used the zoom tool a lot in this case in order to make the cuts more accurate, and I extended Hercules’ first glance in the second session as well (hence the shaking of his head) in order to get the message across. I just used the copy and paste tool in order to do that once I had the section cut off that I was using.
A couple of weeks ago, I made a foley clip for part of Charlie Chaplin‘s silent film, the Lion’s Cage. Â Once everyone had made their own clips, we had to assemble them all into one smooth foley story.
I downloaded the original video of The Lion’s Cage from YouTube via Keepvid and uploaded it into Windows Movie Maker. Â I muted the music and then downloaded each foley clip I wanted to use.
The song I wanted to play in the background was Naive by The Kooks, Â because my story had a couple fighting, just like in the song. Â Unfortunately, I couldn’t figure out how to get the music to be added to the movie since the original soundtrack was still there, but just muted. Â After fidelling around for an hour, I just gave up and used the song as background music to the intro, and unmuted the original soundtrack to play during the film.
I didn’t add any closing slide, because I wanted the viewer to imagine what happens to the couple from then on, instead of telling them.
