Before creating the story for this video I chose 5 random words.
Monkey
Dance
Tree
Coconut
Beach Ball
Google gave me a lot of options of pictures for each word. I chose which ones I liked and then put them all into Movie Maker. My sister and I sat down and looked at the pictures. I started the story saying there was a monkey in the jungle. We each left our statements open ended for the next one to fill in using the pictures and words I chose.
After we finished and I added in so jungle noises I watched what I had just created. I do not think this assignment was as fun as some of the others were, but I think I did pretty well. My story flows together and is kind of silly. The picutres help guide the film and I am proud of what I produced.
The movie maker tool was very easy to use for this assignment.
This is a video I did prep work on in a previous week. I chose the clip and stated so things I planned to do in order to make it in the silent genre and time.
To do this I removed the audio, put it in grayscale, and added a vintage filter. I enjoyed adding some little statements to help get the story across to the viewer.
I think by combining all of these aspects I was able to achieve a well put together piece that is coherent and fun. The music I added to the background seemed to tie the whole thing together.
For this assignment I chose to read one of my favorite poems by Shel Silverstein. It is called Love. I was excited to make it my own.
One of the things I have always loved to do is swing on the swing set in my back yard. I knew I wanted swinging to be the video to put the poem to. I had my sister swing while I filmed at an unconventional angle. To go with the poem, I had her jump off the swing and create a “V” with her arms.
During editing in Windows Movie Maker, I took the audio out of the video. I uploaded myself reading the poem on audacity an cut the two together. Editing involved cutting and overlapping along with a lovely music clip in the background.
I wanted to create a sense of joy and love.
The video is only 9 seconds long, but I messed up and put something at 11 minutes….
When I was at art university and this way watched the world of art for some while, I expolored that artists may call themselves free and liberal, but they are not. I studied the Fine Arts and my professors very much critizised the ideas of their students and by this taught them the rules of the Fine Arts. Nobody did dare to contratict, but I quitted some day, a kind of outnumbered. One issue was somehow arrogance concerning the content of artwork. If I have a great idea and clearly do artwork like a skilled painting, sulpture or printing, why not having pop culture as content? I ignored the rules by doing 12 big paintings on the Harry Potter movies. I’ve paid dearly for this; no aknowledement at all for this great paintings, except from people who were interested to show them children. I did not mind, just for little children the paintings might be frightening, because my idea was to bring to consciousness what big faces on a wall could cause, namely being overwhelmed or even frightened while being movies.
However. I had to fight this rules again for a ds106 assignment, in which you may comment while playing a game. The most influential people in my life would not like to hear that I play any game anyway, except maybe together with other people and then a board game. This is OK, but I’m so excited of exploring different media, that base on a story in a book. This case the Spiderwick Books by Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi. This way, apart from commenting, I discuss the claim that the game is completely after the movie. Yet, I have to say that the game has mostly its own elements very different from book and movie. Even more important I find that the game contains ideas of the books, which are clearly not part of the movie.
?
Which I did not forsee was how much editing this will going to be.
I played the game for about 30 minutes and recorded it with a software called bandicam. I thought it might be more lively when I speake and record the comment the same time. Now I had 30 minutes of game play and 30 minutes of comment and I had to make it into a clip not too long. When I cut the material anywhere I had to find a piece which fit to this cut. In the above screenshot you can see what this meant. I’ve worked hours on this.
So, for my second assignment, I chose to do something that was way more advanced than my first assignment, the “A Day in Your Life” assignment. Before I go into gibber-jabbering about the assignment and my approach to it, here’s the video I made:
Now, I saw this assignment yesterday and kind of planned it out in the sense that I would do all of my big errands and stuff today just so I could film it and put it in my video (because otherwise the entire video would be me sitting at home, doing absolutely nothing. Haha). So you could say that this isn’t so much a good representation of my every-day life.
The approach I took to this assignment was similar to what a lot of YouTube vloggers (video bloggers) do in theirs. Here’s an example of what I’m talking about from a beauty guru on YouTube named Judy on It’s Judy’s Time who makes daily vlogs on another channel called It’s Judy’s Life:
Anyways, I went ahead and planned how my day would go, and pretty much just filmed every little thing I could. It was extremely nerve-wrecking, mostly because I am kind of camera shy, but also because I wasn’t sure which places I could film at and also I knew people would be looking at me really awkwardly and think “What is that girl doing talking to herself?”
But at the same time, it did feel kind of cool to film myself. Not to be egotistical at all. It made me wonder if that was what reality stars felt like. Having a camera on you just makes you act more properly and makes you try to act a little cooler. But, alas, I’m not really that cool or cliché, so I just came across as really strange. Whoops.
Okay so editing… Here’s a screenshot of what I was doing on iMovie:
So, this time, I didn’t really have too much trouble with the program. I think I learned a lot from doing my first assignment without any help because I was able to teach myself a lot of the iMovie functions. I did learn how to fast-forward scenes though, which came in handy for my driving scenes (which BTW was really really hard to do because I was trying to avoid crashing or getting pulled over by cops all while trying to get a decent shot…) I also found this cool feature where you can add in time stamps. That way, you guys could see the lapse in time without me constantly being like “Oh hey, it’s so-and-so o’clock!”
Also, I found the music that comes with iMovie, which I used on scenes I decided to fast-forward. I thought it would be better to use something like music from iMovie instead of actual songs by bands and artists because I didn’t want to risk having my video taken down for copyright reasons.
Of course, I ran into a ton of random little problems. They were mostly due to my lack of recording expertise. The first one was definitely audio. It was hard for me to try to turn up the audio in certain areas, like in the beginning. No matter how high I turned it up, it was still really quiet! Secondly, I had trouble with the camera being super shaky. I didn’t think it was so bad when I was recording/watching it on my iPhone (which I used to record everything today!) but when I was editing all the clips together, I realized that they were pretty bad. Especially for the scenes at Target T_T I wish I could just put it on a tripod on my head or something!
Anyways, hope you guys enjoyed watching my day! Sorry if it’s not too interesting, but I tried to show you guys an array of different stuff! Let me know what you think (:
I was a little overly ambitious on this one. I wanted to complete the entire song, “Seven Devils” by Florence + the Machine, but I found that I didn’t have the clips I wanted and 2 minutes had taken me nearly 3 days.
You can watch the video first and then read about what I did to create this masterpiece below.
SELECT 1080p FOR BEST VIEWING
This assignment was by far the most time consuming of all my assignments for weeks 11 and 12.
I am probably the most indecisive person when it comes to things like this. I had about a minute and a half of this assignment completed with a different song, then suddenly decided I didn’t like it and started from scratch. Of course, this put me behind a few days, but I am happy with the results.
Behind the Scenes
I worked with StreamClip to rip the Game of Thrones dvds. I cut them into a ton of little clips of scenes I knew I wanted to use for my video. I also used YouTube videos of Game of Thrones trailers and previews.
Then I used Adobe Premiere Pro to put the music and the video clips together.
My first goal when creating this was to make sure the music went with the clips. My second goal was to create a story so even the people who haven’t seen the series could follow along–even if it’s just a little bit. I wanted to show that numerous groups and people were fighting for the throne. I had some emphasis on Daenerys Targaryen and her dragons because they change the game.
I also included a line from Cersei Lannister at the beginning: “When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die. There is no middle ground.” I think is one of the most powerful and far-reaching quotes of the series.
This was the one assignment I was looking forward to because I used to do things like this all the time. I don’t really have the time to do it anymore, so it was nice to have to do it for a class.
I downloaded the clips with KeepVid and cut them down into sections of approximately one second each with MPG Streamclip. I deleted the audio from the clips from Alias and Torchwood, as it was random bits of speech and then I imported the clips into iMovie and put them together. I added the audio track then the opening title card and the credits, using the Eurostyle font in the credits before publishing it to YouTube.
I chose this assignment because I did not actually know what an archetype was. When I found out, I was quick to decide to use the Bad Ass Female archetype, as I have studied and talked about it in some of my Gender Studies classes. Katniss Everdeen was the first character that fit this mold to come to mind, but after some thinking and googling, I came up with the rest of the characters to use and quickly went about finding clips of them.
The only thing that I wish I had done differently was to add sounds to the clips of Sydney Bristow and Gwen Cooper. I was not sure how to do it or how to find the right sounds for the clips, since I actually do not often watch action films or television shows.
Despite the sound issue, I am proud of my work and enjoyed doing the assignment.
Okay, so this was my first video assignment, and boy, oh boy, was it hard! This baby took me so long to do, and only for 2 stars??? I’ve gots a long way to get to 16! Anyways, for this assignment, I decided to look into the future of the characters from Gossip Girl. Here’s what I came up with:
Lemme tell you, I spent so long on this little video clip! I think it’s because I’ve never used iMovie before on my computer, so I was trying to teach myself at the same time (I’m kinda stubborn when it comes to asking for help… hehe). Okay, so here are the steps for how I made this video:
Start with the GG opening scene. I knew I wanted to start my video with the classic GG opening scene, so I went on good ol’ Youtube, and found this clip:
I downloaded it with the help of PwnYouTube and was able to drag and drop it into my project area thingy (not sure what it’s called… work space? IDK)
Find pictures of people, edit them on Pixlr, and import them into iMovie. So, I googled around for images on the actual actors and actresses from Gossip Girl and researched to see what they were doing. I thought it would be funnier if I actually connected what the characters did in their futures with what the actors/actresses were doing now (since it is almost a year since the show ended). But I did still have some fun with it, by adding in jokes (like how Ed and Chase were together and how Taylor was a vampire. None of that is true… although I’m still not sure about Taylor, ha ha). After I found the photos and added text via Pixlr, I scratched my head for a little while trying to figure out how to put them on iMovie. After minutes of getting super angry at my computer, I succeed by just clicking the file and dragging and dropping it into iMovie. God, who knew it would be so simple?
Place credits at the end. I wanted to do this because 1. it was required, and 2. so I could give credit where credit was due (and also give myself credit since I’m egotistical like that ). I chose the scrolling credits from the options on iMovie, and then added in the text. Nothing too hard here.
Add music. I knew I wanted to add music during the parts where it was just pictures and credits. Why? It would be super lame and boring to the audience! I picked one of GG’s iconic songs that played pretty much during every scene of the show. It took me a while to find because I didn’t know the song name, but I eventually found it on YouTube. It’s called “Steps of The Met” by the Transcenders. Here’s the clip I used:
I simply downloaded it via PwnYouTube, opened it with MPEGStreamclip, took the audio and saved it as an m4a file, and opened it in iMovie. From there, I was able to make it so the audio only played during the photo scenes and the credits. Yay!
And here’s the finished project on my iMovie screen:
What do you guys think? Anyone who watched GG, what did you think was going to happen to the characters after the series? Leave a comment!
Almost a month ago we had an assignment to make some Foley sounds for a section of the Charlie Chaplin video “A Lion’s Cage“. I was responsible for the section between 2:31-2:55. I made my sounds and (at the time) they matched up with the video just about right.
Fast forwards this this week and we had to put all the sounds together with the video. The first step to this assignment was to download it from youtube and convert it to an MP4, I used my favorite KeepVid program to make this happen. I then put it into iMovie and removed the audio from it. I went to each of the sections 1,2,3,4,5,6. Initially when i went to Section 6 (which was my timeframe) nothing was there, which was very confusing. Long story short, I somehow saved my foley into section 2. I felt terrible, because I know people made their videos without section 6. But as I’ll explain later, it might have been for the best.
I picked which sounds I wanted to download.
Section 1: Karissa
Section 2: Brooke
Section 3: Dylan
Section 4: Kristen
Section 5: Cole
Section 6: Me Ended up using music
After downloading them i started to put them into iMovie. They all matched up so perfectly (great job everyone). Then I got to my section… OH THE IRONY. I couldn’t get my part to match up at all. I have no idea why, because like I said, it matched up when I made it a couple weeks ago. It was extremely frustrating, we are talking I was ready to punch a wall and cry at the same time (promise I’m not a violent person!). So I just decided to add music to the scene, the original music that was played during 2:31-2:55 and it worked great. At this point i just had to add a title and credits. Here’s my work in iMovie:
And here is the movie, itself:
So here’s the story:
It was a hot summer day and the circus finally had a day off. Mufasa (the lion) has happily basking in the summer heat and planned to snooze all day long. He fell into a deep sleep and began to dream… He heard footsteps and door slams and then he saw a man with a mustache and crazy hair just standing there with a bewildered look on his face. Mufasa heard a dog bark, a women’s voice saying “are you okay?” It sounded like they were whispering and then he heard water splashing. At this sound, Mufasa woke up and realized that this wasn’t a dream, but there really was a man in his cage. But he was still sleepy, so he stumbled over and sniffed the man. Yuck! He smelled like elephant poop. Mufasa couldn’t be near him a second more and decided he really just wanted to sleep, so he laid down and rolled around until he got comfortable; he then drifted off into dream land again, or so he thought. He heard the woman and man speak again, he heard the door open a bit and the open say “what are you doing? That’s a real lion, you need to get out of there.” At this point Mufasa heard footsteps coming toward him. He looked up and starred at he elephant poop smelling guy in front of him. Mufasa was just trying to get some sleep on his one day off and he was not getting that. Mufasa was mad. So he did what lions do best. He left out a big ROARRRRRRRR! That sent the elephant poop guy flying out of the cage and the women shut the door immediately after. Finally, Mufasa was able to sleep in peace.
The End!
I hope you enjoyed my take on Charlie Chaplin’s The Lion’s Cage!
For my last video assignment, I completed “I am Me” This 4 star assignment is just a video that represents you. There was only one example listed and it was a girl making some silly faces, so I thought this would definitely be fun to do, thought I didn’t make any fun faces!
I made a video intro and closing and just added a bunch of pictures with captions. This video was all about me afterall, and I’m not a huge fan of hearing my voice on playback and I figured everyone would enjoy looking at pictures more than hearing my voice anyways. I went with four different categories “I love…” “I am obsessed with…” “I love to travel” and “Sometimes I.” In each category, I add a bunch of pictures of people, things, and places. I also added to lists “My favorites” and “Not a fan of.” In addition to those two lists, I added a fun fact about myself.
For the music I chose two songs that I really love right now. First is Taylor Swift’s song “22,” in addition to liking the song, I am 22 years old and I thought it would fit in the video perfectly. The second song is “Ho Hey” by the Lumineers, but the version I used is a cover by Lennon and Maisy Stella who are real life sisters and actresses on the ABC tv show “Nashville.” I heard their cover on the show the other night and instantly feel in love with it!
I pulled the “Ho Hey” cover from Youtube and downloaded it to a MP3 using KeepVid, I already owned 22. From this point, I just added them into iMovie and set them up how I wanted them to play. I finalized the video and then remembered I forgot to put an intro slide and closing credits. So once I put those in, I finalized the movie again and uploaded it to Youtube.
Once again I had to do two different screen shots so you could see my work in iMovie.
I just received an email from youtube saying that parts of my video (I assume the music, because the pictures are all mine) “are owned or licensed by UMG, but still available on Youtube. In some cases, it maybe blocked.” So hopefully it will still play below. But if you have any issues, please let me know.
PS. I thought I had cut out the initial squirming around I do in the intro clip. Sorry for the error and weirdness.
