What’s in my bag

Zombie Apocalypse, or some late night B and B this bag has it all.

Visual Assignment – What’s In Your Bag

What are the essentials in your bag that get you through the day? Take a picture of the items and detail each of them with a description.” (3 points)

Using my character Ava, these are the essentials in her bag:

IMG_3924

1. Her purse – it’s a small black leather bag. Very much representative of her coy personality. She doesn’t need bright colors or anything extravagant but this small bag is just enough to do the trick.

2. Her lipstick – keen on not wearing too much makeup, a little lipstick goes a long way. She keeps this fierce color with her at all times for moments of emergency when she needs to get her way.

3. Her pen – she takes a pen or some writing utensil everywhere she goes. Any time she gets an idea she will write it on any paper she has. It also comes in handy when signing contracts and autographs.

4. Her sunglasses – just tinted enough so you can see her eyes, she purposely doesn’t hide behind them. They are a way to prove her confidence but also her elusive manner. She has a collection of sunglasses, they are her favorite accessory. But this pair is her go to everyday pair.

5. Her book – it could be any book, but it’s usually a classic. She gets all of her inspiration from the classics. She likes to underline and write notes in the margins so sharing books is rare. She is currently reading Alice in Wonderland and exploring the world of fantasy.

6. Her prayer card – a prayer card her mother gave her before she left for New York city as a teen. She keeps it with her as a reminder of whats important. It’s gone with her all the way to LA and provided comfort as she chased her dreams.

7. Her lucky penny – Ava found this penny before she went to her first audition. She’s also kept this with her as a reminder of where she began. It reminds her that everyone starts somewhere and not to forget one’s humble beginnings. Even when she was short on money while she was waitressing in New York she refused to spend this penny and probably never will.

What’s in Your Bag?

The first visual assignment I completed this week is called What’s in Your Bag? So here you go!

The only bag I carry is my school backpack. This ^^ is everything that goes inside. First, I always have one or more binders in my backpack- each binder is for a different class. Then I always have my assignment calendar, where I write down all the ongoing work I have and when it is due. I also carry a calculator for my math classes. Then I have three pencils, two pens, two highlighters, one sharpie, one pencil sharpener, one eraser, and some moisturizer. These are my essentials, and they’re with me all the time when I’m on campus!

What’s in my bag? Too much

In the bag – No surprises

I am not creating a character as the Noir106 sections are – so to do this assignment it is my bag.

This first picture shows the contents that are standard in my bag no matter which season it might be.

My Bag

My first attempt was to place each item as a photo on its own within the post, but when embedding from Flickr I have not determined how to size the image to present in a better format. So I took the items and created a collage with Picasa. Each item can be seen as a photo of its own in my Flickr album for ds106.

Whats in my Bag

Contents of My Bag:

  • My loyalty cards from restaurants, food stores, and other retailers. keeping them all on one ring helps me keep them in order and available. They are also fun to play with this way. :-)
  • My wallet – usually empty of cash, but holds drivers license, credit and debit cards, identification, insurance cards etc. I almost called it a pocketbook – that sounds like my grandma!
  • The top right picture is my purse hook. This attached to the edge of a table and allows me to hang my purse. This way it is not on a dirty floor or hanging off the back of a chair where it can get knocked off or I can’t see it. Love my purse hook!
  • Phone – how did we manage without these before? That is my grandpuppy, Teddy, as the screen picture.
  • Coin purse. An old-fashioned idea, but when dealing with parking meters, tolls or vending machines comes in handy. Saves wear and tear on my wallet too. Not to mention – if it is full it can act as extra weight and be bordering weapon status if needed.
  • I wear glasses for reading and computer work – so the hard case protects them when not wearing. This is an established habit. When I think of how much my glasses cost – there is not another option but to protect them.
  • Mini brush – fluff and puffs the hair as needed. I find a brush works better than a comb for my fine hair.

Let’s Get Purse-onal

This assignment (worth three stars) required me to create an image showing the contents of a bag belonging to my character, Folami Turay. To create this image I used Photoshop because I didn’t have access to all of Ami’s accessories.

amibag

As you can see, Ami likes to keep things simple. She keeps a few necessities in her simple black handbag. Though she wears makeup regularly, the only kind she takes on the go with her is her red lipstick. This looks great, especially when paired with her designer sunglasses on a hot summer day. A thick stack of cash from her lucrative nights at work stays on her person at all times. She smartly carries a Durex condom, making sure that she can have fun while staying safe. Her safety is also protected in part by a pocket knife that has come in handy more than a few nights when customers at her club get a little too passionate. She carries the keys to the club and along with her apartment key on a simple key ring. The final component of her inventory is her iPhone, which she uses to text friends, follow activism news on Twitter, listen to Angel Haze, and navigate her way through the bustling city.

What’s in the Bag?

As a roamer, Mack spends a lot of time wandering around the streets which means he carries a messenger bag with what he precieves are essenctial to his every day life.  Among those, the five that will always be there no matter the situation are:

Pocket WatchBag1

Mack’s most prized possession is a pocket watch that was passed down to him and severed as a reminder of better times from the past.  The picture he carries in it of his son gives him small hope for a better future than the present he lives now.

Leather Gloves Bag2

The cold wind in Chicago could be the harshest on the hands.  Mack would always carry a pair of leather gloves to keep warm during the coldest winters, and also to prevent leaving finger prints.

Current Newspaper CT

The newspaper was Macks main way to keep in touch with his contacts.  Through wanted adds, personals and obituaries, carrying a news paper not only gave the impression of normality but also served as a way to send and receive hidden messages.

Pack of Smokes Bag4

Everyone has a vice, this just so happen to be Macks.

Camera Bag5

Mack was never one to rush, if he was given a job he would personally surveillance the area until he felt comfortable he knew enough to successful do what he needed.

This is the What’s in Your Bag assignment, worth three points.

The first thing Jack Neff makes sure he has in his bag is his change of clothes. After his day job as a grocer, Jack sets out into the night and transforms into the hero of his novels, Jack Settig, a cunning tracker and mystery-solver who despises the scum of the city.
