Sister Wives Strive to Survive

I completed the assignmentĀ Storytelling Within the Web.

I altered a story on the web using X-Ray googles. TheĀ article was about the Sister Wives’ attempt to challenge Utah’s polygamy ban.

Here is my link to the original story:Ā http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2016/04/11/appeals-court-rejects-sister-wives-polygamy-lawsuit/82904702/

The most challenging part about this assignment was brainstorming what type of alterations were to be made to the article. I thought it’d be funny if the wives forced their husband to choose from among the four of them.

Personality Quiz

For this assignment, I had to create a Buzzfeed Personality Quiz of anything I wanted with at least 3 results with descriptions and 6 different questions. This sounded like a fun and interesting assignment that I felt that I could accomplish, so I started creating my own Personality Quiz on Buzzfeed.

I just needed to figure out what the results would end up being after the end of the Personality Quiz. I tried to think of memorable video game characters with different personalities, but the only the characters that I could think of were in games that were too mature for a personality quiz to have. That’s when I thought of my favorite video game characters that were cartoons of Ratchet and Clank.

Ratchet and Clank Movie Poster

Ratchet and Clank was one of the first video games that I ever owned where it combined artistic humor through animated characters that you could play as in a video game that could be played as a kid or as an adult. In fact, I just ordered the PS4 remake from Amazon a couple of days ago and there is an animated movie about to be released into theaters.

The different personalities types that I decided to use for results were the main character of Ratchet, Clank, Captain Qwark, and the villain of Dr. Nefarious. Ratchet is always the brave character that will do what he thinks is right for saving his planet and fighting anything in his way to help anyone that needs help. Ratchet is also a hard-working engineer that is the muscle of knowing how to fight the villains and always uses an aggressive approach to situations. While Clank is the brains that thinks of smart tactics and is filled with information as the sidekick to Ratchet; but he mostly always goes by with a conservative approach. Then there is Captain Qwark who always gets the credit for every good deed that Ratchet does, but is actually clumsy and a goof-ball that will cower in the face of adversity. He is the all talk and no action type of person. Then lastly there is the villain of Dr. Nefarious who constantly thinks of creative ways to try to get rid of Ratchet, Clank, and Qwark as they pursue him. Even though Dr. Nefarious is hilarious in the way that he thinks, he is still pure evil.

After I had identified the personality results, the assignment became easy because I just had to come up with vague questions dealing with different personality types like genres about music, favorite sports, movies, hobbies, how they deal with adversity/rivals, and how a person would describe themselves. Then after I had come up with all the questions I identified which answer choices would match each character and added an appropriate image for each question.

To conclude, I had a really fun time creating a Personality Quiz using one of my favorite games of Ratchet and Clank as a theme. After doing this assignment, I feel like a kid again because I’m about to play some Ratchet and Clank in a few days when I receive my order from Amazon.

Pinterest Dream Vacation

I’ve never used Pinterest in my life because I’ve never known what you’re supposed to do on it. So when I saw an assignment that included using Pinterest to create your dream vacation I figured now was the best chance I was going to get to finally figure out how to use Pinterest.

The full assignment was to post locations on a Pinterest board describing where I would want to go for my dream vacation. So I signed up for Pinterest and started finding pins for the locations that I would love to visit during my dream vacation if I didn’t have to worry about money or my disability of being in a wheelchair.

All of the locations that I pinned onto my board are mostly European locations but they are all locations that I would love to see at some point in my life. I’ve always loved to travel to different places in the United States, so I figured it would be an even better idea to vacation in locations with different cultures and customs than the US.

In my dream vacation, I would start off in the United States by going to Orlando Florida to be at the happiest place on Earth of Disney World. I’ve already been to Disney World before, but I promised myself that I would make sure to go back to Disney World sometime in my life. In Disney World I would go to the Animal Kingdom, Epcot during the day (saw it at night last time), and the Magical Kingdom.

Then after going to Disney World I would fly to Europe to start the European part of my dream vacation with the first place I would visit as Paris, France. While in Paris I would try all the best restaurants (no snails) in the area because Paris is known as the food capital of the world. I would also visit the major monuments of France like the Eiffel Tower and Louvre Museum, because those are the main things to see in France.

After going to France, I would want to travel to Barcelona, Spain to possibly catch a Barcelona Soccer game against Real Madrid filled with the best soccer players in the world of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Neymar. Then relax near the city and checkout some of the local cuisine.

The next location I would travel to is Italy so that I could eat real italian pizza and spaghetti. I would like to go on a tour of the Roman Colosseum, so I will talk to some people about making that happen. Then to wind down, I will go to Tuscany to stay at a nice hotel and drink wine.

After winding down in Italy for a couple of days I would then travel to London to see the sites of the clock tower and the London Palace (mess with the guards that are supposed to stay still at all times). After messing with the guards I would go to the Amsterdam in Netherlands to possibly try some brownies and see the major sites like the Anne Frank exhibit of where her house was.

Then after possibly being baked in Amsterdam by eating some of the brownies, I will want to go to Belgium to have some original Belgium Waffles at a quiet cafe along with some beer; since Belgium is one of the best countries in the world for beer. Since, Belgium is so close to Germany I will travel to Frankfurt, Germany to have dinner at one the highest ranking places in the area because I’ve heard Frankfurt is the place in Germany for the best German cuisine.

Finally, I will fly out to the Fiji islands to just relax by beautiful light blue waters for a couple of days until I’m ready to end my vacation.

Overall, it was a really fun and easy assignment of creating my dream vacation on Pinterest. Pinterest has a lot of great articles about these different locations that I plan on looking at in the future because creating the dream vacation just made me want to pursue going to Europe even more.

Google Map Trip

For my last web assignment this week, I had to make/plan a story and use google maps to tell it.

My story begins with my cousin Brandy from Switzerland coming to visit. She hasn’t been to the US in about 7 years, so we decided to plan a trip to DC. We decide to leave my house in Fredericksburg in the morning and drive up to DC and visit a few different museums. First, we go to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing -a place I have wanted to go for a couple years now and just never got around to. Brandy and I are both excited about this because we’re both Econ nerds. After the Bureau of Engraving and printing, we go to the International Spy Museum and then the Newseum. We stay in a hotel for the night after grabbing some dinner and then get a good nights rest for the next day. We decide to go to the Holocaust museum in the morning and then get a late breakfast. After breakfast we begin our drive to the National Aquarium – one of our favorite places to go when we were younger.

Web Assignment – Storytelling Within The Web

This assignment has you use the Mozilla X-Ray Goggles tool to edit elements of a website, and tell a story. I used eBay to represent the factual college essentials, not the nonsense that lists online tell you about. I originally wanted to use Google’s shopping page, but it wouldn’t let me edit images, so I had to use something else. My web page screenshot is below (the link generated by x-ray was just a broken mess, so I’m forced to use a screenshot).college

And the original page is here; it’s just an eBay page, so the listings are probably different by the time you click this than when I did.

X-Ray as a tool works really well: you can insert images from any website, and editing text is a breeze. I spent a little bit of time thinking about certain aspects of college that aren’t apparent to most people before they join, and tried to represent that in the listings. I had to create both book covers in Photoshop, as well as the container, but I didn’t put a huge amount of effort into them.

Doing this assignment made me reflect and laugh at all the college prep articles and information I read before I came to college. They really overcomplicate the process and dramatize the intensity, at least in my opinion. If only they could be as honest as the image above.

Mapping Stories

This assignment asked that Ā you take some story or situation and create a map for everyone involved. I decided to take this opportunity to map out a book that I had to read for my American Realism class calledĀ The Marrow of Tradition. It’s a really good book, and I highly recommend anyone read it if they’re interested. The biggest problem with the book was the large amount of characters involved. Many things are happening all at once throughout the course of the events, and everyone is related to everyone else somehow. So, I decided to take advantage of this assignment and finally map out the characters according to a list that my professor had given us to help in our reading. I’m going to send this link to the professor, too, so hopefully her future classes won’t be as confused.

This assignment, more than anything else, took a lot of time. I didn’t get every single character — just the ones on my professor’s list — but it was still incredibly extensive. I used Kumu, as the assignment requests, and put in everyone according to their race (since that’s the main point of the book). It was really cool to finish all of this data and sit back to see the connections. Major Carteret is connected to everyone in some way, so he is the unintentional center of this diagram, as the circles and lines shift according to where everything is. Seeing this sort of map really helps with understanding the role each character has and what relation they have to those around them.

Honest Grades

Screen Edit

For this assignment, in which we take a website and change its content into a story. I decided to make an “honest grades” page, since the semester is coming to a close and looking at this page is increasingly more vital to surviving. Those assignments on the right bar just know I’ve been putting things off, though. Shame on them. You can find the whole reworked page here.

I have been hunting down each assignment I need to do at this point in the semester (my wall is actually covered in sticky notes), but I still get stressed about what’s happening. So, I thought I would make a relatable story in this assignment. We have so much to do, the grades are piling up, you need to check your professor announcements, and you wonder how you managed to accomplish anything this semester. Hopefully not everyone can relate, but I’ll tell you I’m scrambling.

I used the X-Ray Goggles function to capture the page Canvas and publish it into a new link. Some things on the top bar are covered up by the credits at the top of the page, which is why I made a screenshot on the not-yet-published page instead so you can see those extra little gems.

Dream European Vacation

For my next assignment, I chose to create my dream vacation in the form of a Pinterest board. I have a Pinterest obsession, so this was not hard to do. I have ALWAYS wanted to go to Europe and visit a few different countries. I’ve specifically always wanted to go to Italy, Ireland and Scotland, so those 3 are definitely part of my trip. For the trip, I am going to Italy, Belgium, Ireland, Switzerland, and Scotland.Ā I pinned different things like “10 Things to Do in X Country” and tips and tricks for traveling. I also of course pinned items like “The Best Places to See in X” to get a good idea.

While I know it will be an expensive trip, I hope that I can save the money to be able to go with my husband and possibly my family in the future. I want to travel between each country preferably by train, but I know that I have to make sure to plan the specific order of places accordingly. That being said, I will probably have to take a plan between one or two destinations. One of the most important part of my vacation is that I want to see all the sights, but I also want to go places that tourists don’t usually go/know about. I think that part of going somewhere is seeing all the tourist-y sights but also seeing things that are done by locals. I’m especially excited to go to Switzerland because my cousins live there and we don’t get to see them too often. You can find the board here, enjoy!

Storytelling within the web: Talie’s Wild West Show!

This week we focused on web related assignments. As such, one of the required assignments to complete was the assignment titled ā€œStorytelling within the webā€. This assignment required me to alter an existing webpage and intervene in the html of the site. So, I had decided that this would be the last assignment I would complete this week because it seemed like it was going to be pretty difficult, given I am not the best computer/internet technician. However, I was pleasantly surprised it was not as difficult as I had anticipated. I first followed the step by step guide provide by the professor on the class site and I was able to install X-Ray Goggles. Once I had X-Ray Goggles installed and added as a bookmark I was able to alter any webpage. The key step that helped me quite a bit was the tutorial provided by X-Ray Goggles on how to alter webpages. The tutorial helped me understand how to change different areas of the webpage and then publish it so my new webpage that I created would have its own weblink address.

The webpage I chose to alter was a Netflix webpage. I decided on a Netflix webpage because it is a pretty popular website and provides a variety of shows and movies to its viewers. Since this course’s theme is a western genre I chose to create a TV show involving my created western character, Talie. I used X-Ray Goggles to alter the webpage and added my own description of the show, type of show, year it came out, who it is starring, and changed a few other aspects. It appears as if the viewer (P.Bond) has searched a show with ā€œcowā€ leading to cowgirl or cowboy shows. The viewer has clicked on one of Talie’s Wild West Town episodes and is thinking about watching one of the action packed and funny episodes! Don’t worry you too, can watch an episode and read the description of Talie’s Wild West Town by visiting this webpage!

My Internet Resume

This assignment looked confusing and difficult at first glance, but after reading the information provided and downloading the tools recommended, I got it… sort of. I first tried creating my resume on Amazon as shown in the example, but the page decided to refresh twice during my attempt at creating my resume. So after being frustrated because I was almost done twice, but my work being deleted, I moved on over to craigslist because I thought it would be easier.

I used the X-Ray Goggles to change the information on craigslist, but unfortunately after messing around with the website I could not change the image on the original post. I have posted a screen shot below of the website, with the image blacked out, but if you visit the link shared, you will see the original image. If someone could give me tips on how to change the image, I would truly appreciate it so I may go back and fix it.
