Buzzfeed Personality Quiz- 4 Stars

Have you taken one of those fun personality quizzes on Buzzfeed? Now make your own! Sign in with Buzzfeed to create a community account (you can use gmail). Then start making a quiz for people to find out which character they are. Use any characters you like. There must be at least 3 results with descriptions and at least 6 questions. Be sure to include photographs as well. Once you have made the page publish it and share.

I take Buzzfeed quizzes all the time when I get on Facebook so I thought it would be fun to create my own for once.

Story Behind the Story 

I have been watching Gilmore Girls since the fifth grade. I still remember waiting for my mom to come home from work so we could watch the latest episode together. It was our favorite show hands-down and it’s still our favorite show. I remember how devastated my mom and I were when the series finally happened when I was in the seventh grade. We did not know what to do with ourselves.

Once Gilmore Girls appeared on Netflix for the first time last year, everyone suddenly knew what the show was and was obsessed, even though I had been trying to get people to watch for years. No one ever listened to me. Now that it is popular, I thought it would be fun to make a Buzzfeed quiz about a few of the characters. But I’m sure there are hundreds of them on the website.

Narrating the Process

So I have never made a buzzfeed quiz before so I was unsure of where to start. Luckily a fellow ds106 student made a tutorial and I was able to follow steps.

First I created my own buzzfeed account using my Google+ login information. Then I clicked More–>Make a Post–>More Options–>Quiz. The image below is what popped up. I proceeded to add the photos and the result descriptions necessary to create the quiz.

Once I published it, this is what appeared on the screen. Everything was done after that!

This assignment worth 3.5 stars required me to “find a cool, easy to use digital tool online!” and write a brief tutorial on how to use it.

Today’s tutorial will be on how to use a YouTube to MP3 converter. I have found this useful in many different assignments, specifically audio assignments. Lets get started!

First, search for  audio that you want to use from YouTube.

Next, select the video you want to use. This step is the most important.

From here, you need to copy the URL. In a new tab, open a YouTube to MP3 converter.  You can find tons of these on Google. This is the one I like to use.

Now, paste the URL from the video into the text box above where it says ‘Convert Video’.

After you’ve put the video URL in the box, hit ‘Convert Video’. This is what you should see.

Almost done! Select “Download” under the video information.

Once that’s done, you’ll have the video downloaded onto your desktop and from there you can do whatever you need with it. You can save it to use in other computer programs or to listen to it!

Steller is a really cool App! I didn’t know it existed until now but I had a lot of fun with it. I might try and use it to create something a little more serious next time. It was easy and fun to use!

The assignment had us change something about a preexisting web page to tell a story. I decided to change in IMBD page because it gives the description of a movie so I wanted to change it into my own story. Using X-Ray Goggles, I clicked the portion of text that I wanted to change then simply replaced the words that were there with what I wanted to say.

What a cool guy, Chad Koder.

The man who was born knowing how to develop software. He had never spent a day at school; rather, he spent his time researching online.

Process

To create this resume, I used Microsoft Word.

I used a built in template that Microsoft Word provides. To use a template, go to File -> New, then select the Resume category, and then select a template.

All I had to do was remove fields that I didn’t think were applicable, and add content to the remaining fields.

Finally, I saved the file as a PDF in order to guarantee the visual integrity of the work.

I’d like to see city life, nature, and a combination of the two. Cities are cool because there is a high potential for ideas to come to fruition. Nature is cool because it is a stress-free environment that can let the mind wander.

Then I would eat wondrous food. Healthy food, of course. I would like to live a long life, at least long enough to make it through the vacation.

I’ll eat most of anything, but I’d prefer healthier food if at all possible. It tastes just as good and doesn’t have any unwanted after-effects!

Alas, I could not go for long without toying around with gadgets. Although void of meaning, they sure are addicting!

Computers are hard to get away from in this day and age. It’s best to learn to live alongside them and make the most use out of them as possible.

Process

To complete this assignment, I had to use Pinterest.

I made an account, then searched for travel locations. I ‘pinned’ these locations into a ‘board’ so that later I could create a widget to display them in my post.

I then searched for ‘healthy food’, which came up with lots of green images. I pinned some of the tastier looking results.

Lastly, I searched for ‘computers’, which resulted in many gizmos popping up. I pinned a couple.

I created a widget for each board, and embedded it into my post.

Have you ever been fooled by a fake website? Did the site look just like the website you were intending to visit? It’s not hard to modify a website in subtle ways as to maintain it’s appearance yet change its message.

I modified the website Wallpaper* to become Code*, a website about software development. Instead of stories about different backgrounds for your computer, I crafted stories related to new technologies and programming languages.

Before I attempted to modify Wallpaper*, I had originally tried to modify CNN.com. I soon realized that that would be a laborious venture, as the webpage is very long and contains a ton of content. Redesigning Wallpaper* was much easier to do, and still achieved the goal of the assignment.

Process

To modify the website, I used the Mozzila X-Ray Goggles. The goggles allowed me to easily change the HTML of the website.

I changed most all parts of the site (news articles, images, an advertisement). Some elements however, could not easily be changed, even when using the goggles. These difficult to remove elements were instead removed altogether.

Also, it was not easy to modify the title-heading of the site, because it was an image. I instead removed it.

Once you have finished editing the site, right click somewhere on the page where there are no elements, and click “Save As”. This will save the website to your local machine.

Upload the folder to your hosting provider. To access the page, name your .html file accordingly (i.e. codestar.html).

The site should now be accessible to the public!
