You Follow the Map
It Knows the Way!

When searching for assignments together, Brianne Comden and I came across the “Google History Maps Story”, which we thought would be perfect for our characters, as they were connected in our radio show as grandmother and granddaughter. We also thought it would be great to collaboratively work on this assignment because it would allow our … Continue reading You Follow the Map…It Knows the Way!

Can I Pinterest You in Our New Board?

When searching for assignments that would ideally combine my character with another, I found the prompt, “You’re a Pinteresting Character”, which states: Build a Pinterest page of at least 20 pins for a character of your choice. Search for pins that relate to your character and things that he or she would want to pin for themselves. … Continue reading Can I Pinterest You in Our New Board?

You’re so Pinteresting!

For one of my assignments this week, I decided to do the assignment, You’re a Pinteresting Character, that was submitted by Brooke P.

The assignment is to, “Build a Pinterest page of at least 20 pins for a character of your choice. Search for pins that relate to your character and things that he or she would want to pin for themselves. Bonus points if you build a page and have visitors to your blog guess which character you picked!” This assignment is worth 4 points.

I was super excited to do this assignment because I am obsessed with Pinterest. It’s bad! I have SO many pins! I knew I would have fun with this one, so I started by logging onto Pinterest.

I decided to choose a character that a lovely fellow ds106er created! Try and figure out who the character is :)

I created a board on my Pinterest called: You’re so Pinteresting

I started searching for pins that the character I chose to do would pin! It was a lot of fun :)

Here are a few screenshots of my board! You can click on them to get you to the actual Pinterest page! Comment if you figure out who the character is!

Pinteresting!

For this assignment I had to make a Pinterest account using my character and pin 20 post that go to my character. For this I used my character and Amanda Layton’s character Sylvia Stone and pinned 10 post for both our characters. This was not that hard to find things for my character but I had to kind of think of things to do for Sylvia until I reread her blog post about her character and it made it so much easier with her sections of interests and information. I found things from what they wear to their jobs or activities outside of work. I really enjoyed doing this assignment because I got to look up different things on Pinterest and do it with someone else’s character gave me that challenge that I was ready to take on. I hope you guys enjoy the pins :)   Pinterest

The Sleuths Head to San Francisco

For the You’re A Pinteresting Character Web Assignment, I teamed up with Kim and Lauren and their characters, to create a Pinterest board that would detail what each of our characters would be interested in doing if they went on a trip to San Francisco. We decided to complete this assignment together because we wanted to keep our characters together and continue their stories together. Sarah Mustard and Shelley Layton are staying with Sasha Kellogg at her home during this trip. We decided to use San Francisco as our destination because it is another large city in California, like LA in our radio show, and there are so many things to do. The pins of KitTea, Black Cat Brewing Co, and other cat referencing pins are definitely places that the avid cat lovers, Sarah and Shelley, would check out. Sasha’s pins are more geared toward activities like drive-in movies and shopping. Together the Steadfast Sleuths can enjoy some good food and still delve into some mysteries while they are there. Our group covered our bases by finding relaxing activities like reading, sightseeing, and shopping and combining those with the detective’s natural inclination to unsolved mysteries with the Winchester House. This was probably my favorite assignment this week because I really liked being able to continue the story of the Steadfast Sleuths with their creators, and because browsing through images on Pinterest is entertaining.

Storrrrrrrrry timeeeeeeee.

For this assignment you had to use Google Maps to create a story and for this I not only used Kendall Parker’s character to work with I also worked on this assignment with Kendall. We did our story basing the backgrounds of both of our characters and it made it pretty easy since our characters are related and that we used them in our radio show. The plot to this story map we made was that my character( Margaret) is dead and her granddaughter( Julia) is going to visit her grave but really she is going as a cover up for her second profession. She was really sent there to kill a man hired by his wife but visiting all of my character’s locations (grave, home, work place) is the perfect coverup when she comes back to Chicago with a painting done by her grandmother Margaret. To do this project we obviously used Google Maps but we had to pin the location and then draw a line from that place to the next. For the main pinned location we described what was there and for each of the lines we explained what happened or was going to happen at the next location. We did add photos for most of the locations to go with the story. I hope you guys enjoy our story and pictures :) Story Map

You’re a Pinteresting Character Spence

For my first collaborative assignment I am doing the “You’re a Pinteresting Character” assignment worth four points. For this assignment I used my character, Spence, with some inspiration from Janelle’s character, Sebastian Crane. I found that Sebastian and Spence are actually quite similar. I drew from the 1940’s era, in which Sebastian would have been about the same age as Spence, and added a little bit of the Sebastian charm to my Pinterest board for Spence. The board mostly consists of different parings of Scotch and Brandy, Sebastian’s drink of choice, to satisfy Spence’s semi-alcoholic tendencies. I also included some 1940’s Italian pin-up girls. Spence tries desperately to hold on to his late mother in any way he can. These girls remind him of what his mother looked like in her “glory days”, times that she would reminisce to Spence about when he was young. The pin-up girls are also a nod to Sebastian Crane. Also included in Spence’s pinterest board are vintage inspired watches, cufflinks, and a tie guide. Spence likes to dress sharp on a daily basis.

Three Moon Wolf Stories

“Your challenge here is to inject a story into the comment space of a product a web site such as Amazon or ebay much in the vein of theThree Wolf Moon t-shirt on Amazon (see the back story). More examples include the BIC for Her pen reviews or the Diamond Braided HDMI Cable” *4 stars*

This was fun, being able to just go off on one talking about these pens. Obviously nothing I said was real, but it was fun making all the stuff up that could happen with these pretty terrible pens, I mean, would anyone actually buy these? Well I hope they would after reading my 5 star review. The comment reads:

“This product is great. They were able to highlight my lecture notes perfectly, it’s a durable, long-lasting product that will never let you down.
But beware, if you do so happen to get carried away with this product and accidently, or interonally inject yourself with the highlighter ink, you WILL turn into the Incredible Hulk. I did not do this myself, but I watched my friend do it and it was crazy. All in all, a GREAT product and I would rate it 11/10. Great for all your highlighting needs!”

Character Resume 3.5?

For this assignment we had to make a resume for a character. I chose this assignment because this week is pretty much all about introducing our characters story, and I thought that giving a resume was something that could really add to my character’s background. It was a really simple thing to do, but I really enjoyed doing it. I did some research for the area of South Boston, where Emma lives, and now I kind of want to live there.

The way I incorporated other student’s characters was in the activities section of the resume. I added that she was the member of the Tune Squad which consists of Geoffrey Cunningham, and Detective Longs.

resume

I wrote the entire resume in Microsoft word. There I hit a snag. I wanted the resume to appear exactly how it does in Word, but I couldn’t figure out how to do so. So what I did was copy the word document into paint and saved it as a picture. Then I could upload it to flicker and embed it into this post. That way it looks just like how I typed it.
