Man, I never how remixing a webpage could be so easy. X-Ray Goggles is a powerful tool, and I have never heard about it until this week. You basically have the ability to edit any page’s text and images. Once activated on my browser, I was eager to get started but was not sure what page I wanted to edit. CNN and The New York Times came to mind, but I wanted to do something different. I began to think about a topic that has been buzzing lately. That’s when it hit me, people are still raving about the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

I made my way to Apples homepage to get started. The idea was to make it seem as if the company was having a crazy deal in promotion for the newly released iPhones. The entire page was pretty long, so I ended up editing about half of it. Some cocky wordplay was added to certain parts, basically stating that their brand (Apple) is number one and they know it, and also bragging that they have no competition. There was no need to change any images because the original ones worked fine with the new text added.

All in all, I enjoyed this assignment, and will be keeping X-Ray Goggles on my Bookmarks Bar for future use. Sharing your remixes on social media is a breeze as well. It’s definitely a cool little tool to have around, and edit pages to fool with family and friends.

For this assignment, I used Pinterest and created a new board, pinning different places that I would love to visit. I have never used Pinterest before, and always assumed it was more geared towards females. It was super easy creating my board, and from there, I just searched for different locations and pinned them. You can also follow other peoples accounts, just like other social media accounts, but I do not see myself using this platform again (unless it’s for another assignment).

Once I get my money right and put some aside strictly for travel, I hope to visit some of these places. I love tropical weather, so there are a good amount of locations pinned on my board such as Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and Mexico to name a few. I have never been skiing, but heard about some good places in Colorado, such as The San Juan Mountains. Amsterdam is always a good place to stop when traveling through Europe (especially the cafe’s, wink wink). Other stops while in Europe would be Switzerland and Spain to experience the culture. As far as in the States, Venice Beach is a must, and New York is always great to visit any time of the year.

This Dream Vacation of mine requires mucho dinero, but I feel it would be life changing if I ever had the opportunity to make it a reality. One thing for sure is that I will have at least visited some of these places before I leave this earth. Though I haven’t traveled much at this point in my life, it remains a goal of mine. I enjoy new surroundings and meeting new people.

The purpose of this Digital assignment was to create a story through the social media application Pinterest. This was such a cool assignment because I love Pinterest. I use it all the time but I have never thought of using it as a way to tell a story.

I think that it is such an interesting way of telling a digital story because Pinterest allows clickable links that allow the story to expand without much effort. For my “Dream Vacation” I chose to go to London, Paris, Portugal, and Greece. They are all very different but that is one of the things that I love about it.

I chose each place for a separate reason. London has always been a city on my bucket list. As I have talked about before I love Harry Potter and Kingscross is in London. I just love everything about the culture in Europe and especially in England. London is a just infamous city.

When I go here I want to see the London Eye, Big Ben, and go to Warner Brother’s Studios and visit the Harry Potter exhibit. I feel like all of these places are must-see places in London. It is my goals to one day visit all of the places I have listed above.

The second place I have chosen is Paris. I am studying French as part of my foreign Language requirement. I would love to see the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower. I also chose Portugal and Greece as destinations on my “Dream Vacation.” Greece has been on my bucket list since I saw the “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.” It looks so beautiful there. The appeal in appearance is what drove me to pick most of these places.

I think that this vacation is just a dream. It would cost so much to fly from destination to destination and have money to spend on shopping and eating. However I do think that is possible for me to go to each place one at a time.

In order for this vacation to come true I would have to save my money for a long period of time. In order to do large vacations like that they require in depth planning. I would have to figure out what places I wanted to see and how I would get there. I think that one of the largest things that would have to be researched is where places are. When you are traveling you want to get to destinations fast so you can take it all in.

I think that the only easy place to visit would be England. All three of the other countries have native tongues and languages that can make it hard to navigate. France would be the easiest for me next to England since I speak the French language.

For my board I picked different sites and recipes that I would try. When you go to another country you have to try to get a sample of each aspect of culture. That means eating the food, visiting the sites, and dealing with language barriers.

Overall, I would love to visit these sites and hope one day I get the chance. In the meantime enjoy my Pinterest board of what I would like my journey to look like.

To the Beautiful, peaceful, timeless Bora Bora. My dream vacation….or Honey Moon. It is just such a breath taking place. Every picture looks so perfect, it is hard to grasp that this is a real place. To the crystal clear water, to the incredible waterfalls, and rock. Everything about this place looks perfect. I just hope one day I can experience it in more than just pictures. It’s the NFL Time of Year

For Storytelling Within the Web I decided to change up a NFL news page that was initially talking good about the Cowboys, and was presenting the links to the other top ranked teams. I chose to do a site about the Cowboys, because I am a die-hard Washington Redskins fan, and although we aren’t doing well this season, I always stick behind my team. Now, I was presented with the chance to change anything on any site, so I decided to change everyone talking good about the Cowboys this season and how well they are doing, into how well the Redskins are doing! Now in all reality, I wish I didn’t have to change a website in order for me to say the Redskins are doing well this season, but it was definitely a fun experience using the X-Ray Goggles to change things up and make Redskins fans happy for the time being!

To start things out, I went on to the X-Ray Goggles Site and followed the steps on the right side of the page, which showed me how to put the “Activate X-Ray Goggles” widget onto the Toolbar of Mozilla. After adding the button to my toolbar, I started visiting different sites, and thought of doing something with sports. I then decided to visit the ESPN NFL site and found the article about the Cowboys and the top ranked teams.

Before I activated the goggles, this is what the webpage looked like before. Everything was about the Cowboys; the pictures the writing, everything. Then, I got ahold of the page and started changing things up a bit!

When I activated the goggles by clicking on the widget in the toolbar, everything I scrolled over had the option to change.

By clicking on the link, I then had the chance to change the information and pictures within that section.

After editing everything I wanted to change in that section I clicked save changes, and continued on within the entire webpage to edit it all. When I was satisfied with the pictures, information and titles of the page, which now spoke about the Washington Redskins and no longer the Cowboys, I went ahead and published the site by clicking on the “P” on the bottom right hand of the page.

When I published it, I was given a stand alone URL for my remixed page and that link can be seen here!

There is my final site of the Washington Redskins now being the best team in the league! (if only it was true, right?)

I have always been fascinated by the sinking of the Titanic. Not only was it a disaster of epic proportions, but now thanks to the movie, people have a romantic sense about it. I mean, a ton of people died on that ship and in the icy water and if you were to ask most young people about it, they’d probably say that they were sad when Jack froze to death at the end. This assignment made me wonder just what would have happened if the Captain in fact had a Twitter account. I personally don’t think anything would have changed, in fact I would have been surprised if the ship even made it out of the harbor. I would have foreseen the captain tweeting while driving and running aground or something to that effect.

I used a fake twitter page I found online, and changed all of the pictures and backgrounds. I also added some text and tweets to give a sense of the Captains “goings-on” as he led up to the ill fated departure. It’s a testament to the fact that handheld mobile devices and operating machinery don’t mix very well at all. There was one ice berg out there, and the Captain had ONE job, which was NOT to hit it.

Beatrice Russell as a Pinner

Its hard to imagine what different characters might do in their free time outside of the show. But as another part of the weekly assignments, there was an option to make a Pinterest board based on a character from season 2. Pinterest is addicting. So while thinking of a character to use for this assignment, it dawned on me. If Pinterest was around during the course of the show, I think Beatrice Russell is a closet pinner. I think she would really like Pinterest on the off chase that she has any free time. Although I don’t know too much about her, since we are only two episodes into the second season, I thought she would be a good character to look at. The actual board can be found here but I am going to go through each pin.

Beatrice works for the Port Police in Baltimore. She patrols the containers for any potential threats may they be theft, or in this case human trafficking.

Now the following pins, are my recreation of her uniform, this might be something she would wear outside of work as well. I think the bomber jacket is really cool and it seems like it would be pretty warm on a cold winter’s day at the harbor

I love the scene where she discovers the container, and she is listening to her walkman as she patrols the rows of containers

These are what she is dealing with at work, at this point in time during the season. She discovered 13 dead bodies, all female, and they don’t have any form of identification on them. With the help of McNulty, she is able to give these cases to the Baltimore City Homicide unit.

I added these pins as well because Beatrice is a single mother, trying to put her kids through school and have a full time job as well. The book might be something she would enjoy when she has a little free time on her hands, I would assume that is very rarely though.
