Lacepool!

Lacepool is a bad ass super hero who rocks the world of DS106 and doesn’t put up with anyone’s nonsense. He always does a kick ass job in DS106 whether it is audio, visual or web assignments it doesn’t matter. He’s a mercenary of this world just trying to earn stars every week. He’ll take any assignment for some stars.

If you couldn’t tell I decided to make my own DS106 hero profile a two star assignment. I based mine off of Deadpool because he is an absolute bad ass and I thought it would be cool to make a hero profile similar to his. Using the X-ray goggles I was able to edit the page and make it sound more like me and DS106.

Colts’ Away Games this Season

Original Assignment (3 Stars)

For this assignment, I thought I would do it in simple terms, and in relation to something I love to watch. I chose to do the Indianapolis Colts’ away game schedule for this 2014-2015 season. I looked up the Colts’ schedule thanks to this ESPN Article about their schedule and I used that information to plot the points throughout the United States. I was only able to create four free automobile routes on Google Maps, where the last layer was a three destination one, since the Colts had back to back away games and I figured I just draw a line from one city to another rather than having Indianapolis as an in-between city. The last three away games I had to use the “Draw a line” feature to connect the rest of the cities.

While creating this, I had to click “My Maps” after going to the Google Maps page so that I could add my own locations and paths. From there, I created each layer based on the order of city the Colts visited (for example, week one, Colts visited the Denver Broncos, etc.).

Here are the free four layers that Google Maps let me use:

Here is what eight cities I used to illustrate the Colts’ away games along with the map of the journey the team will partake:

Iceland 2014, Here I Come

For my first web assignment, I chose to do the dream vacation board on Pinterest. I decided to pick Iceland as my hopeful destination.

Follow Hope’s board Iceland Trip! on Pinterest.

3 stars

I’ve been wanting to go to Iceland for forever, but it never really pans out. I love mountains and hiking, and cold weather makes me incredibly happy. My best friend is currently pursuing her master’s degree in Iceland, and so I decided to do this assignment and pretend that it was an actual possibility that I could get over there to visit her.

When compiling the board I tried to make it a mix of locations I want to visit and links out to travel guides. I included lists of things to do in various cities, restaurants to go to, and foods to try. I also included tips on traveling, such as how to beat jet lag or how to pack efficiently. I thought that these really round out the collection that I pulled together. I even included a guide to properly packing a back pack!

I also included links to what type of clothes and accessories and such to pack. There were a lot of great cold weather packing suggestion lists, along with useful things to bring on a trip. In addition, I added information on how to pack lightly and use carry on bags efficiently.

Now all I need is approximately $1200 and a place to crash and I’ll be golden!

“What They Might Have Done In Social Media”: Genghis Khan’s Twitter Feed

For the Web Assignment What They Might Have Done In Social Media, I chose to create a hypothetical Twitter Page for the 13th Century Mongolian warlord Genghis Khan.  Genghis Khan has always been a fascinating historical figure to me due to the sheer vastness of his empire, as well as the fact that he is still one of the most well known historical figures of all time.  These reasons made me eager to create a Twitter page for Genghis Khan.

I decided that the best way to create Genghis Khan’s Twitter page would be to use an already existing celebrity page and modify it.  I choose to modify the Twitter page of famous actor Leonardo DiCaprio, as it had the exact layout I was looking for:

how i made ghengis

Now that I had this template, I began using the X-ray Goggles to modify the page.  I focused on editing 5 main parts of the Twitter Page:

The profile picture and banner,

Ghengis Khan pt1

The short bio,

Ghengis Khan pt2

The pictures and videos section,

Ghengis Khan pt3

The Twitter feed itself,

Ghengis Khan pt4

And the “Who to Follow” section.

Ghengis Khan pt5

I chose to omit the “Trends” section as my edits via X-Ray Goggles would continue to change, likely because the “Trends” section updates and changes each time the page is refreshed, erasing my edits.

Even with the X-ray Goggles, editing this Twitter page took a significant amount of time as I had to look up various facts and pictures to use.  Actually using the X-ray app in and of itself however was a breeze, as all that was required to change photos and text is simple cut and paste.  After all my edits were completed, Genghis Khan’s Twitter page looked like this:

genghis completed

I choose to add a mild amount of uncharacteristic humor to the Twitter page, having Genghis use phrases like “yolo swag”, as well as make jokes about invading ancient China.   I also included as much accurate historical information as possible, with a few Easter eggs thrown in.  The end result is essentially a parody-like Twitter page for the Mongolian conqueror.

Youtube it Your Way: “How to be Easily Arrested”

The Youtube video that I chose to “hack” for the Youtube it Your Way Web Assignment was a video of two German men performing the “invisible rope prank“.  This prank is popular among children, and is usually harmless fun.  Performing this prank can also be dangerous however, as to perform the prank one has to be near roads where cars are often travelling fast.  Because of the danger that this prank poses, prankees often call the police on pranksters.  Usually the police will simply ask the pranksters to stop, and if they do, they will leave.  Refusing to obey the police, however, can result in the pranksters being arrested or fined.  This is the premise behind my new video titled “Getting Arrested: A How-to on Easily Landing Yourself in the Slammer”, as performing this prank is an extremely easy way to get arrested, or at the very least in trouble with the police.

Here is the original video that I used for the webpage “hack”:

To edit the Youtube page, I used the X-Ray Goggles App.  On the video’s page, I looked to change the meaning of as much of the main and related videos as possible.  I changed the title, as well as the titles and some of the thumbnails of the related videos so that they were more in line with the theme of my new video.

youtubept1

I tried my best to essentially turn the video into a double entendre, The first meaning obviously being a simple showcase of a common prank, with the second meaning being a tutorial on how to be arrested.  Here is the original page and my final product respectively:

Tutorial: Storytelling Within The Web!

This week every DS106 student was required to create a tutorial for an assignment in the DS106 Assignment Bank.  The assignment that I decided to create a tutorial for was the Storytelling Within the Web assignment that was required for this week.  I had trouble with this assignment at first, so I created this video tutorial to help anyone who has yet to do the assignment, as well as any students who take DS106 in the future!

Clorox Wipes the most amazing product!

For one of the web assignments I decided to do the Three Moon Wolf Stories assignment. This assignment really stood out to me because I saw how wacky people were with it and that really appealed to me. What the goal of the assignment was to use the X-ray goggles and edit a product’s reviews either on amazon or e-bay or some other similar type of site and make the reviews look pretty silly and that is exactly what I did.

WARNING: These reviews aren’t for the faint of heart or anyone who is overly sensitive. You have been warned. Most of the reviews reflect my sense of humor. I usually looked at what the people were talking about and then kind of made a more crazy review but sometimes I just went nuts with it. Using the X-ray goggles all I had to do was edit text.

Clorox Reviews

Down below I have the original page and the new edited page, check them out and enjoy! This was a four star assignment.

Having fun with PS3 Amazon Page!

Original Assignment

I went onto Amazon and I decided to play around with the PS3 product page. I also played around with some of the default promotional tabs on the page as well. I downloaded the X-Ray Goggles to help me this task and it was pretty fun playing around with it. Here is the original page:

Playing around with the text parts was easy and I didn’t feel like there was necessary image editing due to the fact my assignment was centralized around the PS3 console itself. I chose to use the PS3 as my main idea because I have one myself and I wanted to see what the pricing was on Amazon and also had some input to the page itself. Here is after my X-Ray Goggles editing:

Screen Shot 2014-10-26 at 3.00.12 PM

I thought this assignment was pretty fun actually, considering how creative I could get by promoting a popular console and providing zesty information about the PS3 to convince a consumer. Although there isn’t much, I did my best to edit what I thought was the most important parts. You guys can also view the original and new live versions of this page here (the seller link changed for some reason so excuse the slight difference from my screenshot to the actual page):

What They Might Have Done In Social Media

Original Assignment (3 stars)

The historical figure I chose was none other than the mafia boss known as, Al Capone. Who would have ever thought that mafia guys would interact with each other through social media? That would not be so smart, considering the dirt they do on a daily basis. I would imagine they would just speak in code.

Before making the Fakebook page, I went to wikipedia to gather some info such as day of birth, hometown, and names of some of his associates. It was crazy to see how many siblings he had, especially bothers. I found the profile pic on google images and then added some of his brothers and known associates on his friends list. The header gave me some issues when trying to upload an image. I tried countless times to get it to work, but it would just freeze up every time.

The twister page was pretty simple to make. I just typed in his name for the user name and it automatically assigned me the profile/background images. Before generating my first tweet, I did some more digging online to find out if there were any common phrases that Mr. Capone was known for.  Luckily, I stumbled upon a couple, and used one for the tweet. I wonder if todays mafia use social networks to interact. Hmmm……
