I chose an assignment from the “Web Assignments” category, and it’s called ‘Create Your Own Room‘. The assignment was to create your dream room on Pinterest. This really caught my eye because I just moved into a new room off campus and have been working on decorating it and making it a space of my own. I like to have complete control over the space that I am living in and spending a good amount of my time in. It has to feel like home and make me feel comfortable. That’s why I loved working on this assignment.
I have used Pinterest before, so I added a new board to my existing profile. I named the board “dream room”. I already had a vision in my head of what I would like my room to look like if it could be anything I wanted. I do not prefer very extravagant and luxurious styles because I want my room to be comfortable and cozy. The very first thing I wanted to pick out was the color of the walls. To pick out the rest of the furniture and décor for the room, I needed to know the wall color. I decided on a basic color scheme that I thought would suit my room. I went with a palette that has three shades of blue and a blush color and a darker blush color. I also picked out a color called “Frozen” for three of the walls. This is just an icy, pale blue. Next, I pinned some wallpaper because the fourth wall I would like it to be a little different from the other three. The wallpaper I pinned is floral and simple which I would like, but I would change the colors on it to fit my color palette more. An element that I knew I wanted was a large window. The one on my Pinterest board is beautiful and just what I was looking for. I love having natural light and I love windows. Next, I pinned some plants because I knew I wanted some plants in my room. I just love how they look, and I love the energy they bring to the room. I also pinned a gallery wall with super pretty posters that I would want above my bed.
After that, I picked out the bed that I would want. It is simple but looks very cozy. It is on a wooden platform. I also pinned a wooden bookshelf. I love to read and would love to have a bookshelf in my room. Along with that, I pinned a hanging rattan chair that I would put near the bookshelves as a little reading nook. I also pinned a desk. It has plants on it. I pinned a vanity because I love to do makeup. Also, I love music so I pinned a table that I can put my record player and vinyls on. The last things I added to the board was a wooden dresser and a television. One of my favorite things to do when I wind down is watch TV.
I feel as though this board really shows who I am. I didn’t expect it to be a form of expression. I have used Pinterest for years and never really made the connection that if someone looked at my profile, they would know so much about me. I really enjoyed working on this assignment.
As I was browsing through the assignment bank, the “Create your own room” web assignment caught my eye. Maybe it was because of the house-creation online games I used to play as a kid, or perhaps because for quite some time now, I’ve had a Pinterest board for cool home-and-bedroom-related ideas (many of them far too elaborate and/or expensive to ever dream of creating). Whatever the reason, I decided that this would be a fun assignment to complete.
Ever thought of creating your own dream room? Now you can! Using pinterest find rooms, furniture, colors etc. From there write a blog post about why you chose everything! This is your dream so make it as crazy and out of the box that you can think of!
The first part of the task—finding photos—was easy. I had plenty of material to work with, given that I’ve had my Pinterest account for a few years now and have several hundred pins saved to my “No Place Like Home” board. The second part, which was selecting the ones that best represented my ideal room, was trickier.
Also, before I started gathering photos, I noted that although the assignment prompt included a picture of a bed (implying that the task is to create a dream bedroom), it only said “room”. Theoretically, if I had wanted to, I could’ve chosen any type of room. I decided that I’d go along with the idea of a dream bedroom, since that seemed the most fun to me.
As I picked and arranged the photos in this post, I started recognizing how my stylistic choices were reflective of my personality in some ways. I have more to say on that as well as my understanding of the assignment in a larger context, but I’ll write about that below the collections of pictures I selected.
Gallery #1: Cozy, cluttered, “boho”, & rustic:
Gallery #2: Neat, minimalistic (well, more so than the above gallery), calm-colored, & inviting:
Gallery #3: Collection of things I would enjoy having in my room:
The first thing I did was go to my Pinterest board to grab some photos and dump a whole bunch of them onto my post. Once I felt like I had enough, I started to truly look through them and distinguish between the different styles, themes, and colors. Next, I selected the ones that jumped out at me the most. There were dozens more that I considered including, but I knew that I couldn’t keep ALL of them. The pictures on this post are the ones most representative of my taste. The majority of the images are centered around the bed aspect of the room.
I categorized/classified the first set of photos as “Cozy, cluttered, “boho”, & rustic.” The beds and rooms in the pictures are very elaborately decorated, with lots of blankets, pillows, and various decor including canopies, plants, lights, and wall decorations. These setups look so insanely comfortable and cozy to me. They seem like refuges from the world in a way, like soothing, safe places to relax and rest.
Looking at Gallery #2, I realize that it’s the kind of bedroom that I would’ve wanted a while ago, especially in my younger teen years. (It feels so weird saying that…it’s still very odd to me that I’m actually out of my teens now.) Anyway, I think because growing up, my room has been in a near-perpetual state of messiness, a neat room with matching colors felt very appealing to me. It still does feel that way.
The third collection of photos was mainly of accessories or features of the room that weren’t directly about the bed. What’s interesting to me is that I actually have an IKEA cart and a papasan chair. Those are naturally things that I’d like to have in my ideal room, and I already own them.
One of the fun things for me was realizing that I’m kind of on my way to a dream bedroom. I have an IKEA cart and papasan chair. I have a duvet similar to one of the ones in my second gallery. I’m certainly not unhappy with the room I have now (well, either my room at home or my dorm room), but I think that especially my room at home could use improvements.
I feel like these bedrooms are somewhat reflective of my personality and my taste. The atmosphere appears to be soft and warm, both of which are things I naturally tend to be. I could discuss personality traits and our acceptance of them to a much greater extent, but that will have to be a conversation/post for another day.
Lastly, this is a set of colors I like that I would love to include in my ideal room.
For my second assignment of the week I decided to do the Create your own room assignment. I thought it would be a fun idea to imagine what my room would look like if I was the age I am not but it was the 1980s. Pinterest is one of my favorite social media platform. I love being able to scroll through the different post and pin them to all kinds of different boards. One of the boards that I pin to on a regular basis is my home board. I love thinking about different ascetic that I could make my future house. So when this came up as one of the assignments I was super excited.
I started by searching up on Pinterest different 80s themed rooms and decor. When I found something I found cute, or very 80s I pinned it to a board I called Waking up in the 80s.
One think that I thought would be super cute for my bed room would be a neon sign. When I see neon colors, I immediately think about the 80s. When I found this pin on Pinterest right away pinned in to my board.
Next when thinking about 80s ascetic I always think about how much music played a big part in the culture. When thinking about my room in this way, I wanted to find pins that would have a bunch of records and posters filling the walls. That is when I found these pictures:
Finally, when looking at Pinterest for inspiration for bedroom, I found that in most of the picture the walls were filled with picture. When thinking about myself in this way I realized how much I would love to have a photo wall. When looking for pins that represented this I looked for the 80s ascetic which would be very dark photos. That lead me to this:
I really enjoyed this assignment and planning what my room would look like if I lived in the 80s.
For my last assignment from the assignment bank I chose one that I have been doing for years. The assignment was to create a Pinterest board with photos of things that I would like to have in my dream bedroom. For the convenience of people reading this I will post the pictures below however if you would like to visit the full board you can do so visiting this link: https://pin.it/km4zxz3rdnyh5e
My bed! I am a sucker for a large bed with an overflowing blanket like comforter. This picture really reflects everything I would like in a bed- lots of pillows, neutral colors, a soft comforter type blanket (fuzzy: not your normal comforter). Looks like I could just jump right in it!
Yes, I am a crazy plant parent. There’s just something about living plants that really brightens up a room and makes you feel like you’re caring for something. I currently have around 4 living plants in my room that are like my little babies, I love watching them grow. Maybe because I can’t have dogs at my house?? Oh well, I’d love to have a plant corner where I can hang and place my plants near the window and keep them all in one place so I remember to water them.
Big windows!!! I am a sucker for natural light. In my dream bedroom I would love to have a big window that I could sit at and do homework or chat with friends. I’ve found that overhead lights give me really bad headaches quite often so I have always wanted to be around natural light. This setup just looks so cozy and inviting.
I don’t know about you but I love to take showers. I could take multiple a day if only my water bill wouldn’t get higher and higher. I would love to have my own attached bathroom that I could get ready in and use to relax and pamper myself when needed.
This assignment was so fun! I already had a Pinterest account so I just used my personal one and looked through pictures of what I’d like to have in my ideal bedroom.
My dream 80s bedroom includes bright color schemes, wallpaper borders, window seat, window curtains, carpets, my favorite 80s band posters, and of course my nice, comfy bed.
First, the wall will be a peach color because of how popular that color scheme was in the 80s. It will have a cream color wallpaper border to add detail. Next, all over the peach colored walls will be posters of my favorite 80s bands. Also, I will have a nice window overlooking my backyard with a window seat. On this window will be some brightly colored curtains that goes with the rest of the color scheme. Next, I will have a couple of brightly colored carpets to add to the comfort of the room. Lastly, I will have my comfy bed and my desk for socializing with my friends and working hard.
This is an example of an 80s Bedroom with the Bed and Color Schemes.
This is an example of the Full House Bedroom from the late 80s with a window seat and bright color schemes.
This is an example of 80s posters on the wall.
To begin this Web Assignment I searched 80s Bedroom on Pinterest. I found some incredible images that began to get me ideas of my dream 80s bedroom. Next, I searched in Google popular bedroom schemes and layouts in the 80s. This gave an idea of what 80s bedrooms looked like. From both Pinterest and Google I was able to form and create my own dream 80s bedroom. The three images above all came from Pinterest.
Hey everyone! I’m working quickly on this afternoon to finish out our last few assignments for the week. For this last assignment- we’ve been tasked to develop a ‘design’ for our dream room. I suppose there are just a few key items that I would want to ensure are in my bedroom before I would be content with my ‘ultimate dream room’.
Part one:
The main component of my room would be a large garage, where I could work on cars and also my motorcycles without freezing/ dying from the heat (like I currently do in my garage).
Part two:
In the corner, I’d love to have a cool lounge where my friends and I could hang out, watch videos, and play games together. Notice that it is still garage themed.
Part three:
Another super cool component that I would want to incorporate into my ‘dream room’ would be a power lifting gym. I already have one in my house, but consolidating these things into one area, like my one gigantic bedroom, would be awesome.
Part four:
The last thing I would like to include in my room would obviously be my own bed. I have always thought suspending a bed from a ceiling would be an efficient/ great way to use space. The use of this type of suspended stow-away bed in this garage/gym/lounge space would be a perfect way to use the space efficiently and it could also be a good way to store other items inside the bed frame.
For my last web design assignment of the week, I chose to change up the Create Your Own Room assignment. I related to me and my character by creating a Pinterest board of some examples I would like to have in my dream barn.
Here is the link to my Dream Barn board on Pinterest! https://www.pinterest.com/nobleflaire/dream-barn/
I can sit on Pinterest for hours planning out all kinds of things in my life. Graduation cap designs, wedding plans, clothes, food, etc. It is just so much fun and it is so easy! I also love all of the DIY projects that are available! If you happen to see anything interesting pertaining to my barn board let me know!
