Create Your Own Room

I LOVED this assignment. It’s been years since I really got into pinterest, but this was so much fun! I’ve always envisioned a huge, open master suite with lots of white and light grey… Light & airy. Tons of windows with natural light & a bay window. I also wanted a balcony off of my room, a his & hers walk in closet, and a huge on suite. I also want a shiplap accent wall. Talk about a dream… although this will almost definitely NEVER happen, I’ll continue to dream… Check out my board here! I will probably continue to update it and let my imagination run wild.

Pinterest Room

For this assignment, we had to create a board on Pinterest for room inspiration and save our favorite pins.

To do this, I logged in to my Pinterest account and created a specific board for this course. I named it “DS106 Room Inspiration.” I then went to the search bar and looked up “minimal bedroom,” “minimalism bedroom,” and “minimal decor.” I scrolled through the different posts and saved the ones I liked.

I was going for a minimal bedroom look. I wanted three things — less items and clutter, lots of white, and plants. I found exactly that while searching Pinterest and saved the pins.

Below you can find the board I created for this assignment.

Only in a Dream

Hello!

So for this assignment (assignment #1877) students were asked to create the room of their dreams, using Pinterest. This wasn’t a hard activity for me because I’m currently in the middle of renovating, so my juices are already flowing when it comes to making my living environment better! I’m a man of simple tastes, but the prompt said to use your imagination so that’s exactly what I’m going to do.

I began by searching “awesome room ideas” on Pinterest. Immediately I found a layout I liked. The layout:

I think that this layout is perfect. Not too manly and not too feminine. Perfect. Except for one thing. It’s missing a dang red bull machine for when you wake up in the morning dragging butt because your 2 year old decided to boycott his bed and instead wanted to put his feet in your face all night! Check this Red Bull machine:

Like come on! Who wouldn’t want that! Honestly when I think of the perfect bedroom that’s what I picture. I don’t want some fancy stuff or technology. I just want a normal bed with a great mattress. And honestly time to sleep and a lot less freaking homework from this class. Shots fired. Thanks for reading!!

Just Zaying…

Dorm Sweet Dorm

To begin using the Assignment Deck, I chose the Create Your Own Room assignment from the Web Assignments category. I was excited to dream up what I would want my dream room to look like and to actualize it (in a sense) through Pinterest. Bringing my vision for my room to life through Pinterest was fun and satisfying because it was so fun to find pictures that someone else took of real items that matched what I would want in my room. I love using Pinterest to find funny animal pictures, inspiring quotes, and gluten free recipes, but I have not really explored all that it has to offer for decor. I have also never used it to create a board with a goal, such as with this assignment. This assignment allowed me to use Pinterest, a tool I have used for a while, in a new way.

To get to my final Dream Room Board, I searched for different items or ideas I was looking for on Pinterest, and then I pinned the pieces I wanted to use to make up my dream room to my Dream Room Board. Pinterest also suggested different searches based on what I was pinning, so some of the pieces I found were from the suggestions.

I began by thinking about what parts of myself and what I like I would want to be represented in my room. I started with the color- yellow. I would want this to be the main color in my room because it has been my favorite color for most of my life. It can be hard to find accessories in yellow, so I enjoyed getting to explore all of the yellow options Pinterest had to offer- from pretty decorations with yellow walls to sunflower decorations to wall decorations. I then moved onto elephants, which are my favorite animal, so much so that last year, every one of my friends gave me elephant paraphernalia for Christmas- from a tapestry to a scarf to earrings to socks. I love everything elephants, and I also love the designs and styles that usually contain elephants. I have even considered getting an elephant tattoo! I found throw pillows, wall decorations, and even light switch covers with elephants that I thought were beautiful and would love to fill my room with! I then moved on to yoga-themed items for the room because I am a yoga instructor and love the meaning of yoga. I found a beautiful door decoration, some hanging decorations, and wall decorations that represented different parts of yoga. I also like the bohemian style and picked several pieces that I came across that represented that style. I feel like elephants and yoga fit in well with the bohemian style. I am also a huge fan of quotes, so I connected what I usually use Pinterest for to its new use. I looked for different ways in which I could arrange quotes on the wall of my dream room. Finally, I love swings and have always dreamed of having one in my room. I found two different options- a regular swing or a bed swing- either or both of which I would love to have in a room of mine!

What would you want in your dream room? How would you design it?

Minimalist Paradise

For my second web assignment I chose this 4.5 star assignment to design my own bedroom using Pinterest. Although my actual bedroom has come closer to my ideal dream room, it still has a long way to go. I created a new board on Pinterest and added furniture and decor that I would want in my dream room. Some of the things I include are:

  • Oversized reclaimed wood headboard
  • Large bed with a white comforter and muted color accents with pillows and blankets (dusty rose/taupe color)
  • Abstract colorful paintings
  • Plants
  • Simple minimal desk
  • Geometric shelving
  • Statement mirror
  • Flowers
  • Some DIY pieces

I really like white minimalist decor with a few statement colorful paintings to bring some interest back to the room. However, I am not the neatest person and will likely at some point eat in my room so white furniture does not work well with this. I actually have recently switched to a white and grey comforter in my actual bedroom and have kept it clean, but the idea of a full white one is actually kind of terrifying. I’m also an introvert and stay home often so I would want lots of plants in my space. I do have several spread out through my apartment now, but I don’t really have any at home. The headboard I pinned is an actual one that I want, but cannot currently (and probably will never be able to) afford. I like to combination of soft and bright, geometric shelving and flowing plants. I want to have this minimalist room because I think it would help my feel more organized, but I have lots of knick knacks and wall pieces that I love and want to put up as well. I also like doing DIYs. While I would not try to keep everything, I would want to keep a few of my favorites to keep in my room. I’m moving in the right direction of my dream room, but still have a long way to go (and probably will be moving that way for a long time.

Assignment Bank 1 (Week Nine):

Create Your Own Room

I absolutely love, love, love decorating around my apartment. Thus, it was a no brainer for me to complete this task. Pinterest is my almighty savior when it comes to home decoration, cooking, etc.. I did come across a conflict while completing this assignment though. The conflict was I couldn’t decide on one ultimate bedroom. My resolution was the just create a Pinterest board with the overall theme of my dream bedroom. That board can be found here. However, I would still like to add my overall criteria for my dream bedroom. A list of requirements/wishes can be found below:

  • A king sized bed with a neutral comforter, complimented with a darker throw blanket, lots of funky pillows, and a cool tapestry behind it accessorized with fairy lights.
  • Lots of plants to give life to the room (i.e. succulents, ivory, etc.).
  • A memo board to keep track of my bill due dates.
  • A bookshelf with a lot of books.
  • A desk to do my work at.
  • A makeup vanity
  • Lots of posters, pictures, tapestries on the walls.
  • A cute kitty to keep me company.

Dream Master Bedroom

Ever since I was introduced to Pinterest, I have been HOOKED. When I saw the Create Your Dream Room assignment in the bank, I was so excited to complete it. Because I use Pinterest religiously, this assignment was fairly easy, other than the thought process that went into it as I never really think when I like things, I just save them because they are appealing.

For this assignment,  I decided to create my dream master bedroom. One day, I’ll have my own house, and I want the theme to flow within each room of the house. Currently, I am really into the modern rustic theme. This can be seen on the board I have embedded below. For the color scheme, I am thinking the walls would either be champagne, seafoam green or rustic gold. There is a color swatch representing these colors together below. As for the furniture, I want it all to be wooden, but with slight wear and tear, whether it be authentic or manmade. To match the rustic theme, my bedding would be a white or cream-colored quilt, with lots of accent pillows that match the wall color of the room. Moving onto the decorations, I am really into family, so having photos of current and future family members is key. I also like inspirational sayings, so those could also appear somewhere in my room. Last, for doors, I would like to have sliding barn doors as I think they are really cool and would really put the finishing touch on the aesthetic of the room.

To create this board, I simply looked up modern rustic bedrooms and saved everything that I saw that caught my eye. This is just the beginning of my board and it will continue to grow until it comes time for me to narrow down my wants and put my room together in real life.

Create Your Own Dream Room

These photos ebrace elements of what I want my dream room to be like! I like lighter colors like white, light pink, and gray because they are clean colors and I like the way those colors are in the sunlight. To add onto that, I would like wonderful, large windows to let light in. I want curtains on the windows. I would like a chandelier in my room because it adds ambiance and its a little something different than a normal light and fan. I like string lights also that ambiance. I would like a nice nightstand and dresser that are white and I would have lamps for some light and flowers because I think that is fresh and feminine. I love mirrors so I will probably have a full-sized mirror as well as one above my dresser. I won’t have a TV in my room because I’ve never had one and I don’t want to start bad habits of staying p late and watching TV!

Redecorating!

Archives

Designing my dream rooms?! This assignment could not have come at a better time! I’m moving into a new apartment in a few weeks so this really called out to me when I came across it. I always need decorating ideas! Not to mention, I’m a Pinterest addict so what better excuse to spend even more time on one of my favorite websites! I started by creating a board specifically for the assignment. Then…well I resurfaced about 2 hours later with quite a selection! Going back through my choices, i definitely noticed I color scheme I leaned towards. Greys, tans, blacks, and muted versions of pinks and blues showed up over and over again. I also focused a lot on wall art and decorations as opposed to the furniture itself. I don’t have much creativity outside of baking so all the different ideas really helped me to be able to picture it. I especially liked the idea of having a little reading nook/corner and seeing a couple different ideas for a working desk since obviously I’m still in school. I even found a post for my dream closet! Its the size of a small bedroom and has built in shelves and everything! To top off the board, I added a few ideas for a master bathroom. I’ve always loved the ocean and the beach so I fully intend to have a sea themed master bath. I’m sure you’ll see that come through in my choices. Happy decorating!

Dream Room

Dream Room

I loved this assignment! It was super fun for me because I enjoy browsing Pinterest on my spare time and getting ideas for my dream home (since I’m 22 and will be on my own and starting a family soonish). I have pretty simple taste. I like things to look nice and neat but also enjoy bold looks mixed in. I would say that my style is contemporary with a little bit of rustic chic. I like neutral colors but also enjoy a few pastels for tranquility.

I love this style of headboard. I love the big headboards with the tuft fabric. It is cozy and simple but also elegant and timeless.

I definitely want a window seat in my future bedroom. Or at least in on place in my house. I think that they are so calming and cozy. I can totally see myself relaxing with a cup of coffee in the window seat of my bedroom or living room on a rainy saturday morning.

This is the same picture as above but with a different view. I love the colors of the room. I definitely think I will be doing a neutral light blue or grey for my wall color and then using artwork and decorative pieces to bring color to the rest of the room.
