Assignment Idea

Holiday Mashup

We all have favorite holidays, but sometimes it’s hard to pick just one! For this assignment, use a photo editing software like Pixlr or Photoshop to mashup your top THREE favorite holidays/cultural celebrations. Use whatever elements you would like from each holiday, creating a character or scene with the images/symbols you’ve chosen. Tell the story behind this character or image!

Two Movies, One Line

For this mashup assignment, you must pick one line from two movies and combine them into one line. You can choose to have one line be a response to the other. You can follow the example video and start the second line on the last word of the first line. You can choose to do this assignment in any way you want, just be creative with it.

A Day in the Life of your Character

Record a day in the life of your host character. Using your character’s voice and Audacity, explain what happens during their typical day. Where do they work, what do they eat, who do they live with? Try to make it at least one minute long.

Your Character’s Past

If you’ve been a part of DS106 for at least a few weeks, you’ve probably already thought of and created a host character that you will be following around for the remainder of the semester. There are already a lot of assignemnts that deal with your character, but for this assignment, you need to explain how your character grew up, and what made them the way they are today. Did they have a happy or sad childhood? What decisions in life led them up to the point they are at now? Just give us some more detailed background on your character, and make it be worth at least 3 stars.

Before and After

Use a video that you created in DS106 and blend it with a movie of similar content. Use Movie Maker or another editing tool to splice and dice a scene(s) from the two movies so they appear as one. The new combined video should be portrayed as before and after or is it after and before? You decide. The video should be between 3-4 minutes. Get creative.

Mash Thyself, Before Ye Trash Thyself

This assignment in pretty simple, yet very powerful.  Mash-up your own work!  Take at least 3 things you’ve done this semester, and combine them together to make one cohesive thing.

Interviewing The Talent

For this assignment, you should sit down and have an interview with your host. Ask them all the hard hitting questions their fans have been dying to find out. Don’t forget to get their opinions on the class and other hosts! You should ask your host at least five questions.

Talking Animal Mashup

Combine separate previously recorded audio and video files to create a video mashup of a talking pet. Use Audacity or another audio recording software and Movie Maker or another video editing software. The segments from each should be edited to deliver your message from the talking pet.

For this assignment, I used an audio assignment of my host character giving a morning message to the village people. I also had a video of my dog barking while I was talking to him, which was used as part of a video assignment. The original audio and video segments were uploaded to Movie Maker. Both were edited so that the pet’s voice is that of the host character (or yourself) delivering a message, telling a story, or reading poetry. Be creative!

Dream It…Write It!

Write about a dream you have had. It could be a recurring dream, a vivid dream, or even a dream that you make up. Be sure to describe every detail that you can remember from your dream.
