Assignment Idea

Wait, where’d that guy come from?

_cokwr: Photoshop someone(s) (or something(s)) into a picture that isn't supposed to be there. Here's the original inspiration for the project: http://www.zonaeuropa.com/20110629_1.htm, _cpzh4: Design, _cre1l: http://words.shannotate.com/?p=88, _chk2m: shannotate, _ciyn3: 149, _ckd7g: , _clrrx: , _cztg3:

Play by Play

_cokwr: Take any real life video and give us a play by play commentary on what we see. It can be a sports event, funny video or videogame gameplay. Make it funny, make it real, make it anything you want to be. Lets hear what you have to say about the game!, _cpzh4: Video, _cre1l: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2Te9LJncBo, _chk2m: Eric in Tokyo, _ciyn3: 212, _ckd7g: , _clrrx: , _cztg3:

Phake Tweets

_cokwr: Use the Twister tool from ClassTools (http://classtools.net/twister/) to generate a series of images representing the voices of past figures if they could express themselves in twitter. Notch it up, and recast a historical event with a new plot line, and notch it up again, but making it a back and forth between two figures (use @person!) - my example is not developed as a fanfic, but should give you an idea of what to do (okay, okay, I will do a real assignment, sigh)., _cpzh4: Fanfic, _cre1l: http://cogdogblog.com/2011/03/17/phake-tweets/, _chk2m: CogDog, _ciyn3: 99, _ckd7g: , _clrrx: , _cztg3:

Messing with the MacGuffin

Wikipedia defines the MacGuffin as "a plot element that catches the viewers' attention or drives the plot of a work of fiction." For this assignment forever change the plot of a movie, tv show, etc. by changing a single line of dialogue. Put this new line of dialogue below a screen-cap of the moment in the movie you're changing. Credit to Tom Woodward for posting an example of this idea in the #ds106 Twitter stream.

Infographic Life

_cokwr: First, begin by spending a set period of time documenting things about your life. How much coffee are you drinking each day? How many miles do you walk/ride/drive to work/school/bars? You can use http://www.daytum.com to capture this data, or go old school with pen and paper. Now, take inspiration from infographics all over the web, including the Feltron Annual Report, and create something beautiful and interesting from all that data., _cpzh4: Design, _cre1l: http://feltron.com/ar10_04.html, _chk2m: Tim Owens, _ciyn3: 52, _ckd7g: , _clrrx: , _cztg3:

Mashedup Children’s Book

_cokwr: Mashup a children's book based on another cultural artifact. For example, framing Dr. Who as a children's book in the aesthetic of a Dr. Suess's work. See example from College Humor here: http://www.collegehumor.com/article:1811404, _cpzh4: Mashup, _cre1l: http://7.media.collegehumor.cvcdn.com/86/51/ba8e6e3655723f8e0564073d70e0e195.jpg, _chk2m: Jim Groom, _ciyn3: 56, _ckd7g: , _clrrx: , _cztg3:

We’ve Found Your Match

_cokwr: Take a picture of one of your closest friends and put it beside their celebrity look-a-like. , _cpzh4: Visual, _cre1l: http://www.flickr.com/photos/brobenson/5451916224/, _chk2m: BRobenson, _ciyn3: 66, _ckd7g: , _clrrx: , _cztg3:

1 Quote a Day

_cokwr: Quotes are awesome. They recall a time, a trend or can identify you with a certain group. , _cpzh4: Writing, _cre1l: http://twitter.com/#!/search/realtime/%231qad, _chk2m: mome, _ciyn3: 189, _ckd7g: , _clrrx: , _cztg3:

What the Font?

_cokwr: A common exercise in design school, take typographical elements (perhaps even the words of a story) and bring them to life., _cpzh4: Design, _cre1l: http://www.timmmmyboy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/5165550358_98f5c72b74_b-448x580.jpg, _chk2m: Tim Owens, _ciyn3: 9, _ckd7g: , _clrrx: , _cztg3:

Vision of the future

What will life be like when apps such as Layar or Google Goggles are no longer applications in a handheld device, but hardwired into our brains? Layer some 'augmented' reality style effects on top of the video in an attempt to show what life will be like once we are cybernetically linked to technologies such as Layar or Google Goggles. It could be like the view that the Terminator sees through his robotic eyes, or something more down to earth like a price comparison app that appears as you do your shopping. Make it funny, make it serious or speculate about how this technology might be used for good or bad. Check out an example here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MeaaCwBW28
