For my first assignment for this final project, I chose to do Storytelling within the Web {*****}. I wanted to introduce my character to people who have not seen the show, Sabrina the Teenage Witch. I thought of different ways of doing this but showing y’all her Pinterest board would really let you see who she is and what she likes.

I did this with a program called Hackasaurus. I used this program before and it was very user friendly and fun to use. It was actually kind of crazy…how can someone hack into a website and change things. I even changed pictures! It’s insane! So really, don’t believe everything you see or hear on the internet.

Coming up the pins that she would pin was easy at first but then it got challenging. I wanted to convey that she was just a normal teenage girl – but also a witch. At the same time, I wanted to introduce Libby {who plays a big role in this final story…you’ll see how later ;)}, her aunts, and her boyfriend.

One Way or Another

For my third assignment for this final project, I chose to do Storytelling within the Web {*****} again. The reason I chose to do this assignment again was because I wanted to show how Sabrina reacted to Libby’s attempt to blackmail her. She obviously is going to seek revenge…I wanted to show everyone exactly how she was going to do that. And with what she would seek revenge with.

I spent the most time on this assignment than any other assignment I have done for this final project. I wanted to make it realistic and the webpage that I used my Hackasaurus tool on was really long. This tool amazes me every time I use it. You can really change anything!!! I changed everything from the product reviews, summary, price, and even the related objects!!! I chose to hack a Amazon web page. Yes, Sabrina is going to buy something to seek revenge on Libby.

Some People Change

For my last assignment of this final story was the Where Are They Now? {**} video assignment. I wanted to show everyone where the characters of this final story ended up. What changed, who changed, who stayed the same?? You’ll learn it all now :) I just hate when people don’t update the viewers on where the characters are now. That is the worst thing in movies. {Although now I know that stories can be open-ended and that’s ok.}

I got pictures of the main characters: Sabrina, Libby, and Valeria {Sabrina’s best friend} from back when the show aired {1997ish} and now. I thought it was important to show the viewers just how much everyone has changed. I put these pictures together in my Windows Movie Maker. Side note: throughout this class, I have fallen in love with Windows movie maker. I never knew what it could do, I just had it on my computer. Now, I use it all the time. I’m preparing a movie/slide show for my graduation party with it!!!! I just love it. Ok, back to the story :)

I added captions to each character’s then and now pictures. This part needed to be funny. After all, this is how I’m ending my story. I don’t want the traditional “and they lived happily ever after” ending. Actually I think we’re banned from doing that or we’ll get a bad grade. Regardless, I wanted to make it funny.

Once I was done editing the video {changing transitions, font, color, and adding music}, I uploaded it to Vimeo and viola:

10 Seconds of Thanks Tutorial

Here is a simple tutorial for the 10 seconds of thanks, it involves using a pen and pencil and not your computer. Gasp! I think sometimes we need a reminder of how to use these archaic technologies.

1) Find a time keeping utility- watch, clock, phone, etc.

2) Grab a pen/pencil and a pad of paper

3) Be sure to not think too much about what you’re going to be writing. The more naturally it comes within the 10 seconds the better!

4) start the clock and start writing. Keep an eye on the clock and drop the pen when 10 seconds hits.

5) Repeat steps 2 -4, except this time draw yourself rather than write a list.

Your Favorite Teams Mashup Tutorial

Here is a tutorial for the Your Favorite Teams Mashup assignment .

1) Select your two favorite sports teams

2) Find an image of the two teams logo’s and download them to your computer.

3) Go to Pixlr.com/editor.

4) Select “open image from your computer” and open the two images you just downloaded.

5) Choose which image is going to be the base image and which is going to be the second layer image. For me I chose to use this image as the base:

5) Navigate to the base image, and edit the area where your layer image will be used. Here is a screenshot of my workspace.

6) Navigate to the layered image. Use the pixlr tools to edit the image to mesh well with the base image. In my example, I cropped the image to be smaller and removed the upper wing using the eraser.

7) Once you are satisfied, save the new edited image.

8) Navigate back to the base image. Go to ‘Layer’ –> ‘open image as layer’ to open the layer image on top of the base image.

9) move the layered image into the proper spot, and you are finished!

A reflection from Kate

Originally I was going to create a video of different people guessing what Kate’s baby as going to be and a possible name. But then I ran out of time

So I replaced it with another video assignment, “This is my story” (2 stars). I was trying to figure out how to do this assignment. When I realized that I could just print a picture of her out and create the index cards! I am a genius It took me like 5 times to film because the cards kept slipping and you couldn’t see the words. It’s really hard to hold a picture and index cards and have no idea what people can see because I couldn’t see the screen.

When I uploaded it to iMovie, I could tell that some of the words were still “missing” but I just decided to roll with it. But no that it’s on Youtube it seems like its even harder to read

So here is what the cards say: (SPOILER Alert!) If you want to see the whole story together, just wait on reading this and watching the video.

‘Hello I’m Kate. Duchess of Cambridge. I’m pregnant. Which means I should be Happy. But I’m not. The Queen has been so demanding about everything lately. Telling me how the baby will be raised, where the child will go to school. Do I not get an opinion? This is MY baby, NOT HERS! I told Will that we had to leave London. So now we are in Nepal… The Queen was not happy at ALL.But she will have to get over it. We will stay here through the baby’s birth and maybe longer… I do love London and miss my family terribly. But…I can’t be told how to raise my child. I know that Will, will take care of the baby and I. I can’t wait to meet our little Prince or Princess! Only a few more months.”

I added some music to this video as well. It is actually the music/song she walked down the aisle to, at her wedding.

This video, as you will see in the final story, is a video that she made as a reflection piece. Not to share with the world. The way I’ve written the story is like it comes from her diary.

The Rise of Curious George****

For the last ds106 assignment ever, I did a mashup assignment called Movie Trailer Mashup. To go with the theme of my final project (Curious George), I mashed up Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Curious George.

Using YouTube, I found a Rise of the Planet of the Apes trailer that I used the audio from, and two Curious George (trailer1 and trailer2). I downloaded them via keepvid.com and opened them in MPEG Streamclip in order to convert them from mp4 to avi. Now in avi, I used Windows Movie Maker to put the audio and video together.

Several hours later, after cutting the Curious George trailers to match up with the audio from Planet of the Apes, I got my final product. It was frustrating at times, but overall, I had a lot of fun with this assignment and I’m glad it was my last one in this class!

Only a couple more assignments to complete before the big reveal!

The next assignment for my final story is the Google Map Trip (2 stars). I don’t want to give to much away. But Kate and William do go to Nepal in the story. I’m not giving specifics. But just know that there is some drama and secrecy that cause the trip to occur and they booked their royal private jet for one way…

To create this map, I just went to google and started typing in places. I figured I’d through in a few extra stops in between, they might need fuel. Since this is a fake story, I am getting a bit creative with this part. I am sure that in reality something like this would never happen, but that’s the joy of being able to play with the truth in DS106. Also I think pregnant women aren’t allowed to fly after a certain point, but once again I am just rolling with it. I will tell you that Kate will be 6 months pregnant at this point in the story.

The Royal Baby Stroller

There’s no doubt that the Royal family needs to start prepping for their newest mini-Royal due in July. One necessary purchase will be a stroller. While the Royals are wealth beyond compare, it is no shock that they are also very practical people. Kate, herself, wears her outfits more than once and mixes “regular” priced items with more expensive items into her daily wardrobe.

So it’s really no shock that they would consider practical and functional items for their child. I’m here again with another Storytelling within the web assignment. This time I’m bringing to you the Royal Stroller.

In doing some research it seems that Kate might consider this stroller by Mammas and Papas, a British based store. While the price may still cause sticker shock to many, it is a practical, lightweight stroller that is perfect of a busy Royal mom on the go!

What Kate’s been Pinning

The Second component for my Final Project was to complete the 5 star assignment of Storytelling within the Web. You will see this assignment in another post as well because I am using it twice!

For this assignment though I wanted to make Kate’s Royal Baby Pinterest board. I went to Pinterest and typed in “baby boards” and got a lot of options. Then I tried “Royal Baby Boards” and I was shocked as to how many came up. It was sorta alarming, there were tons of boards about baby bump watches for Kate, kinda creepy if you ask me. Finally I settled on this one. There were a fair amount of pins and covered different baby items.

I used the X-Ray Goggles to change all the pin labels. Overall it was an easy process. Obviously I’ve never talked to Kate, so I really have no idea what sorts of words she uses. But she appears very classy and elegant, so I used words like “adorable” ”perfection” and “lovely” to describe things, I feel like she’d use those words a fair amount.
