Reed & Cane Basket Commercial

The Work Itself

This is my second of two required video assignments for this week. This assignment is titled “DIY Product Commercial“. Its instructions were to “create a commercial for a product you have made your self. the video should be 45 seconds to 1 minute long and contain LIVE acting. no copy and past clips. submit it to you tube and tag it #ds106.” This assignment is rated 5/5 in terms of difficulty. My brother recorded a video of my advertisement, then I uploaded it to my YouTube channel. My video is titled “Reed and Cane Basket Commercial“.

The Story Behind The Story

I made this basket in a arts class in my freshman year of high school. This basket is made from only reed and cane. I weaved the reed in an intricate pattern/design under and above the cane. I colored parts of the basket in a forest green shade and weaved a diamond design on each end of the handle. This basket is in good shape and still serves its purpose of holding various items. As you can see in my commercial, it can hold tremendous weight and any shape of object. It is a must buy and if purchased now, you will receive an extra basket for free! It makes for a lovely home design and will fit in perfectly with the fall and winter seasons.

The Process, Narrated

This assignment is pretty simple. My brother recorded a video of me advertising my product on my iPhone. I emailed the video to myself so I could download it and upload it to my YouTube channel. No editing was necessary. I wrote a short description and tagged it appropriately. Below are a few photos to document the process.

2015 Lacrosse Goals

The Work Itself

This video assignment is titled “Compilation Video!”. The instructions are to “pick a theme and download multiple videos from Youtube that fit the theme. Cut them up and create a compilation video by putting the clips to music.” The difficulty of this video is 3. 5 stars out of 5. I used a few different videos I found on YouTube of lacrosse goals that I used in my video, “2015 Lacrosse Goals”. I created an iMovie production, then uploaded it to my YouTube channel, titled “2015 Lacrosse Goals“.

The Story Behind The Story

Whenever I am bored I sometimes watch lacrosse YouTube clips and videos. I have been playing lacrosse since the 4th grade, so it is a big part of my life. I enjoy watching for enjoyment, but also to improve my game. I watch other people play and try to incorporate some of their moves into my game. There are many ways to shoot in lacrosse, and I have learned new shots from watching others do them in games. For example the one hand shot and backhand shot have become popular, because Lyle Thompson became is one of the best collegiate players all time and he was known for his creative and unorthodox shots.

The Process, Narrated

I found a few videos of college lacrosse goals on YouTube. I found the specific clips that I liked and cut them and pasted them into Google drive. From google drive, I downloaded each edited clip and added all of them into a downloads folder titled “lax” that I created. I dragged each individual clip into a new iMovie production. Each clip was already trimmed so additional editing was not necessary. I created a standard title clip and inserted text. Once I was finished on iMovie I shared it to my YouTube account.

Dear 16 Year Old Chantel

Being 16 is not always easy. For me it was the time when I wanted to grow up so fast and be done with high school but looking back there are definitely some things I wish I knew then that I’ve learned over the years.

This assignment required me to write a letter to my 16 year old self talking about things I wish I knew then. In my video I gave advice to my younger self .

To record the video I used the camera on my laptop. I then opened the file in Movie Maker to trim the beginning of the video trim

I also added music to the video and used the music editing tools to fit it to the parts of the video where I wanted it.

The final step was to edit the opening and closing sequences and that was the end of this assignment.

Good Luck Message with Instant Replay

Enjoy this dog-lovers good luck message with slo-mo instant replay.

Signing Words

This 4 star assignment required us to take a video of ourselves finger spelling a word that was bigger than 5 letters. I chose a short phrase that shouldn’t be too hard to figure out.

My thinking behind the assignment was that I’ve never done anything that involved using ASL so it would be interesting to learn something simple. To make the opening and closing sequences, I used windows Movie Maker. I didn’t do any special editing to the video other than adding the opening and credits.

Dear 16 y/o me (ps you’re an ass)

Sorry for the rather crude title, but I didn’t mention much in the video how much I actually hate 16 year old me. Seriously, she was actually the worst. She probably would have believed in reverse racism. The. Worst.

But, I still talked to her today in this video.

For the Dear 16 Year Old Me assignment (4 stars), we had to talk to our 16 year old self and give them some advice for the coming future and all the terrible decisions they’re about to make. Coincidentally, I believe 16 was the age when I really started to start figuring myself out (I hadn’t figured myself out yet, but I was almost at the beginning point, so….y’know). I found out about asexuality and social anxiety and found that they both fit me. I had my first really bad anxiety attack. I stopped crushing on a boy I had been crushing on for all of high school. I had the worst English teacher in all my years of learning.

But I wanted to warn myself more about the then-distant future. The beginning of college. The point in time where things actually started going to shit, and I slowly turned into an empty husk of a human being who doesn’t believe in reality and feels as though their entire existence is useless. I was having a bad week when I made this video, I think…or just a bad day. At this point, who knows.

But it’s cathartic to be able to talk to your younger self and tell them things about their future. Like I said, I hope there’s a future me right now telling me that things will get better.

Process:

Same as in the Fingerspelling assignment, but now I’ll explain the little cuts I made.

Initially, I filmed it so that it would be cut, cutting myself off, allowing for adequate time to make the cut, and then readjusting my position and face to act accordingly.

Then I put everything into Windows Movie Maker, and moved the slider to the point in time when the cut would occur.

16yome

Then I used the split tool to separate the video at that point in time, and then used the trim tool to cut out any excess at the beginning and end of these little separate parts, to make it look nicer.

60 Second Day

The 60-Second Day (and a few more). The sound did not transfer when it was uploaded to YouTube and it didn’t show up on my blog yesterday. A frightful week and glad it’s over.

A Dogs Life

A Dogs Life  was created using pictures and video from my iPhone and some from the computer. Movie Maker and VidEditor were used to create the video. Sound was added, but when I listened to it after it was published, the volume was low.

I Am Me

This assignment really appealed to me! I love looking at past memories, and compiling them was super fun! I went through my Facebook to figure out how to best depict me, and here’s what I found: my friends, family, dance, and cats!! I really could not describe me any better. Next, I compiled all of the photos I chose into iMovie on my computer. Next, I went to my iTunes library to find a song that best describes me. I chose “You Learn” by Alanis Morissette. I’ve always lived by the main line in this song “you live, you learn”. I can’t help but smile when I watch the video, it’s so me!!!

Music Video

I decided to relate this one to my host character, The Headless Ballerina. What better way to do that is through dance, right??? My personal favorite types of music videos are full dance ones, and I’m sure THB’s are too! This was pretty simple, I took a video of a dance that I was in (try to find me!) and uploaded it in my iMovie. Then, I turned down the original sound and put the music over top of the video, because it was really poor. Lastly I uploaded it to YouTube! Then viola, a music video for In This Shirt by the Irrepressibles!
