Math Troubles

The difficulty with math is that math is math. There is nothing more frustrating than having to deal with doing math homework , except if that homework doesn’t actually work. I, Dennis was having trouble doing my math homework and I had to share the frustration with someone so here is my video.

This is a 1 star video assignment for Ds106 titled 1 Second Video. I made this using imovie on my computer.

AaronLine Bling

When I saw the assignment where I could make a music video my mind immediately went to the Hottest music video right now Hotline Bling by Drake. In his music video he just dances with a shite background and different colors so I decided that I would just make a video of myself as drake in the video. Enjoy!

This is a 5 star video assignment for Ds106 titled Create A Music Video. I made this by recording myself multiple times dancing to Hotline Bling and then mashing those clips together and changing the color of the clip in imovie

Reverse, Reverse!

For 2.5 stars this week, I completed the Play it Backward, Jack assignment.

Things always look super weird when you play them in reverse, don’t they? So take a video of something in your life–someone running, the toilet flushing, the sink dripping, someone spitting, whatever–and reverse it!

For this assignment, I used two videos that I had recorded last semester.  These were short clips, so they were a good length to experiment with.  Since I am not usually a Mac user, it was difficult for me to get the hang of using iMovie.  By using two video clips, it allowed me to experiment with transitions and prepare myself for more complex creations that we may have in the future.  After completing this, I have realized that I don’t really like video editing as much as other assignment topics, but alas, I still have to make it through video week(s).  However I do have to say that watching a goat run backwards is pretty funny… Enjoy!

Show Me the Wolf of Wall Street

In the world of investing there is no better person to make your money with besides the Wolf of Wall Street. I, Dennis, play John and I have recognized this and decided to invest with the Wolf on his new breaking stock. This will help me to continue my life of drifting around. Please ignore my disheveled look and enjoy the video of my conversation with the Wolf of Wall Street.

This was a 4 star assignment for Ds106, named X Versus X – Movie Remix. I had to search around for two movie scenes that fit together and I figured using a phone scene would be a good option. One of the funniest phone scenes comes from the movie Jerry Maguire, where Jerry talking to a client and the client requests him to say the phrase “Show me the money”. I figured there is no one better to show someone the money other than the Wolf of Wall Street so I found the clips and cut them up to create a call and response in imovie.

Wait, What happened? I Need to See a Replay..

For 3 stars this week, I created and completed the Instant Replay! assignment.

Choose a video or clip of an action, and then pick a part of the original clip and slow it down to create an instant replay.  Show both the original action as well as the slow-mo instant replay! Video editing software, like iMovie can come in really handy for an assignment like this!

I already had this video on my computer. I had recorded it last spring, and thought it would make for a funny instant replay.  Video editing is not my strong suit, and since I am a PC user, Movie Maker is not the best software to use.  So, I used one of the Macs on campus, and it definitely took me some time to get the hang of how to use iMovie. I’m pretty sure I sat staring at the screen for a good 15 minutes before stumbling through the program.  Once I got the hang of how to navigate iMovie, it became a little easier, but still not as second nature as some other computer or online applications and programs…

Anyway, here is my final product, so enjoy! (PS – no one was harmed or injured in the making of this video.)

Guess that Fingerspelling!

For the Signing Words assignment (4 stars), we had to fingerspell a word that was long enough for the viewers to guess. I was really excited to see this assignment. I took two years of ASL when I was in high school, and I absolutely loved it. The language is so fascinating linguistically, and the usefulness of it for people who are Deaf/HOH or mute is something I find absolutely wonderful.

Unfortunately, UMW doesn’t offer an ASL course, and so I haven’t been studying it or keeping up with learning for the past 4 years. So one of the most difficult things about this video was relearning words and grammar (and I’m almost positive I got some things wrong). Sure, I could have just not done that, but I felt like it was important. Mostly because it allowed me to get back into studying it. Or at least using ASLU’s wonderful dictionary. Also it increased the challenge for me, since I already know the sign language alphabet pretty well (even if i’m clumsy at signing it)

Process:

signing1

So, I filmed it using my webcam, and then imported it into Windows Movie Maker

signing2

To add the captions, I clicked the “Caption” button (as seen in the first image), and these are the options I chose for it. The text is white with a narrow outline in black, and I played around with the Text Duration section so they fit where I want.

signing3

So this is what my captions look like

signing3ish

Then I imported the music in. I used some that I had previously downloaded for the radio show, from Incompetech.

signing4

I messed with the music volume so it wasn’t too loud (although there’s no other sound going on in the video), and also allowed it to fade out at the end

signing5

For the title and credit sequence, I just used those two, and chose from the various themes until I found one I liked.

signing6

Then I saved the video and uploaded it to YouTube!

My Commercial

This is my commercial from the assignment bank worth 5 stars!!! It’s absolutely hilarious and I enjoyed making it.

Surfing Compilation

Assignment (3 stars)

You may be surprised to learn that when Edward Creeper is not busy hosting his show, he enjoys spending time at the beach catching the waves. The follow short video is a compilation of different surfers showing off their skills

To complete this assignment, I first found several different surfing videos on YouTube, and used a Youtube converter to download them into iMovie. I then found a song that sounded ‘beachy’ and also imported it into iMovie. Then, I edited all of the clips and music together to make the finished product, before beginning the process of uploading it to WordPress.

Edward Wishes he was in Australia

Assignment (3 stars)

The follow short video showcases the scenery of Australia, which is somewhere Edward Creeper has always wanted to go.

To complete this assignment, I first found several images of Australia on Google, and downloaded them into iMovie. I then found the song ‘Down Under’ by Men at Work on YouTube, and used a Youtube converter to download it into iMovie as well. Finally, I found a video of different Australian landmarks to use in the middle of my own video. After all of these pieces were in iMovie, I edited them together and overlaid the music on top, before saving the project and beginning the slow process of uploading it to WordPress.

Tyrod Taylor Highlight Reel

Assignment (5 stars)

For this assignment, we had to find an athlete that we like and make a highlight reel of them, along with adding music and an intro. The following video is of Tyrod Taylor, who was a Virginia Tech quarterback, before being drafted to play for the Baltimore Ravens. He did not see much playing time there however, and is now with the Buffalo Bills. The video is set to Enter Sandman by Metallica, which is the song that is played during Virginia Tech games.

To complete this assignment, I first found the clips I wanted to use on YouTube. I then used a Youtube-to-Mp4 converter so that I could open the clips in iMovie. I then found the song and went through the same process. Once in iMovie, I edited the clips together, added the introduction, and edited the music to fit with the clips. I then saved everything, and began the process of uploading it to WordPress. This took over an hour to do, and I was a bit worried it would not work, but eventually everything came together.
