Video Assignment Two – RGIII Highlight Reel

Highlight Reels

Description of Assignment: Channel your inner ESPN and clip together highlights of your favorite athlete, set some music, and add an intro.

In order to create this assignment I used Quick Time and iMovie which already come previously downloaded to Macs. I got all of my videos from Youtube.

First after finding all of my videos, I had to upload them to Clipgrab in order to put them into Quick Time.

Once they were uploaded to Clipgrab I was able to save them to my desktop and drag them into Quick Time.

Once all of my videos were in Quick Time I was able to trim them. You simply just move the yellow box either in or out until you have selected what you want to be trimmed or in the video.

Once all the trimming was complete I put my video into iMovie and added a song by downloading it from an MP3 and saving it to my desktop then inserted it into iMovie.

I also was able to add an intro to my video through iMovie. They had a bunch of intro slides, if you would, to choose from and then you just insert your own text.

And that was it! Here is my highlight reel I created..

I chose this Video Assignment because it kind of fed off my other Video Assignment I created. I said then that my second favorite sport was football. So now, I chose to create an entire video of my favorite football player RGIII.

I love RIII. I think that he seems to be not only a great athlete but also a great person on and off the field. I chose a few of my favorite plays that he has made during his time in the NFL and put them all into one video. I tried to choose a few different kinds of plays to put in the video as long as they were good ones. I believe this video all together shows the success that RGIII has had in the NFL even though some people think that he has really not been as special as they thought he would be. I chose the song “All I Do is Win” because I thought it was appropriate and fitting for a video on an athlete and their plays.

This Video Assignment is related to the concept of digital storytelling. This is because it is a video that tells a story of RGIII.s success in plays he has made. It could also tell a story of RGIII’s time in the NFL.

Video Assignment One – Sports is What I Love

What Do You Love?

Description of Assignment: Choose something that you love and make a video of it! You can take pictures or videos and combine them into one final video. Try to find music that has to do with the thing you love and add it to the video. Make sure to add a title and give credit to those outside sources.

In order to create this assignment I used a website called Stupeflix. This website made it very easy to complete this assignment. I highly recommend using it not only for this assignment but for anything were you would like to create a video using photos.

First, I just clicked Add and then clicked the “add photos and videos” button which aloud me to choose either from things already saved to my computer or I could browse their library of pictures/videos.

Screen Shot 2015-07-15 at 9.23.05 PM

Next, after uploading all of the photos I wanted to be in my video, I clicked the “add audio” button and chose whatever song I wanted off youtube and saved it to my computer and then took it from my files and uploaded it. You can also search their library of songs. After doing this I clicked on the “Themes” button in the top right and found a theme I wanted. After finding the theme, my video was complete! Super easy and fun! (Link under picture to video)

So here it is!!!

I chose this assignment because I thought it would be pretty fun and interesting to do. I also figured it would be challenging considering I have never really made a video this way.

I chose to create my video for this assignment on sports. I incorporated a ton of sports into this video, of course having my three favorite sports be the first three pictures shown in the video. The others after that are in no particular order. I chose soccer as my first favorite because I have played it all my life and it has always played a big role in my life. Soccer has taught me so much. My second favorite sport I chose was football. I love this sport because there is never really a dull moment. Just about every second is interesting and that interest me. Also, all the plays and runs that are made are very cool to see. My third favorite sport I chose was baton. I twirled baton from the time I was two all the way until I graduated high school. I know coach baton. Some people may not consider this a sport, but I beg to differ. It is definitely a sport and we compete against others just as in other sports. The song I chose to go with this was “Don’t Stop Believing.” I thought that this was an appropriate song to go with a sports video because when you are an athlete you can never stop believing.

This particular Video Assignment is related to the concept of digital storytelling. This is because I created a video that tells a story of not only my three favorite sports but also of just about all sports I could think of.

That Bleeping Censor: Pulp Fiction

For this assignment, we were tasked with taking a movie clip and ruining it via censorship. So I thought to myself, “what good movies have lots of swearing?” Well, anything Quentin Tarantino would work, so I went with Pulp Fiction.

Why exactly would someone want to censor Pulp Fiction? After all, who would do such a thing to such a brilliant cinematic classic? It must be the work of some advanced alien race. They are trying to demoralize us before they take us over. It’s the only possible explanation.

The assignment page included a helpful video that details the process of censoring a video. In lieu of a tradition bleep, I decided to go with an old-timey car horn. The only tricky part was pinpointing the exact segments of the video that contain the swear words. That took a little bit of trial and error. If you feel the need to watch the video with every nasty syllable in tact, here’s the original:

Compilation Video

“Pick a theme and download multiple videos from Youtube that fit the theme. Cut them up and create a compilation video by putting the clips to music. ”

For the above assignment, i made a compilation of Optimus Prime Return. I downloaded the actual video from youtube. I always been a  big fan of Optimus Prime from the movie transformer. It is a science fiction movie, and I have watched every single series of transformers. The soundtrack i used in my video is made by Hans Zimmer; he, is known as one of the best audio artist in the world. Everyday, i listen many of his audio themes, and listening to his music is quite motivational during my daily workout routines. The scene i picked to edit is called, Return of Optimus Prime from Transformer series Age of Extinction. In this scene, it shows that Optimus Prime is returning back to Autobots. To me, the scene not only depict the return of Optimus Prime, but it also represent the symbol of hope. Even though,  Autobots  sacrifice so many of their friends in the hope that their leader would come  back and save them. There was some kind spirituality that kept Autobots to protect the Earth and its people.  At last, Optimus Prime came back as  a Savior to its Autobots, as in a sense Moses return to it’s people to save them.

I edited the above video clip using iMovie on Mac. I have to admit that this was first time i used iMovie; therefore, i ended up watching bunch of youtube tutorial to learn how to use the basic tools that iMovie offer. Following are the steps i took to do the assignment:

1. Step

Downloaded different movie clips from youtube

2. Step

Open the videos in iMovie by clicking import and selecting the desire movies, Once imported it will appear in iMovie library.

3. Step

Select the desire scene by scrolling over it, and choosing the portion that you want to add into your   video. Can select as many scenes from different video clips, and also can be arranged by clicking and dragging back and forth

4. Step

Click the Title button, and select the desire theme. Drag the theme to front of the video clip, and add the desire text.

5. Step

Add transition effects by clicking transition and selecting the desire effect

6. Step

To load the movie online, Click FileShare > Select the desire media and follow the instruction. In my case, i uploaded my video online using Youtube

Final Step

I copied the url from Youtube, and added to this post.

Making some Adjustments

As I had to get up early this morning I though I might make good use of my time. I popped into the Village shop and bought a screwdriver.

I wanted to have a closer look at the TV in my accommodation after last night’s blip.

I also need to get some more credits and decided on doing a wee bit of audio work. I am still trying to get an understanding of The Village by looking under the bonnet.

I had already taken a bit of audio from on of the surveillance tapes:

I ran it through the reverse filter in audacity:

Which was interesting and make some sort of sense if you are in a hypnagogia state. But it required further investigation. I found some instructions which lead to a new tool to add to my toolbox. PaulStretch is quite fascinating, and after spending quite some time testing the settings I fell back on the basic preset:

Feeding this into some video footage from the archives:

Tells us quite a lot about the state of Rover’s mind, or perhaps his master’s?

Some information

Movie clips extracted with MPEGStreamclip from video taken from dvd with HandBrake.

Movie clips concatenated with ffmpeg.

Slowed down with ffmpeg:
ffmpeg -i rovercon.mov -filter:v "setpts=4.0*PTS" rovercon.mp4
Which turned into mp4 too

Added the stretched audio:

ffmpeg -i rovercon.mp4 -i the-prisoner-backwards-strech.mp3 -map 0:0 -map 1:0   -shortest rovercon-audio.mp4

I am finding ffmpeg interesting as you can try different variations out quickly.

Rover normally seems to be a cold mechanical creature, this view suggests something deeper, organic perhaps, hints of ancient chants and secrets. Perhaps the Village is not as rational as we think.

3,000 Miles in 30 Seconds(ish)

I thought long and hard about what I would construct for this week’s video assignment. My original idea went to sh*t after shooting (thankfully it wasn’t terribly time consuming) and I struggled with making this coincide with my focal theme of emotional expression through creativity. I really wanted to do some form of stop motion for the 30 second documentary… Read more →

Created Assignment: Signing Words

This assignment requires you to take a video of yourself or someone else and finger spell a word or a phrase using American Sign Language (ASL). First, you need to learn how to finger spell the word in sign language.

Click on the picture if you want to learn more.

signlanguageabc

Additionally, if you really are interested in learning ASL, here is a free website where you can learn how to sign.

Here is a video  of me signing my name.

This assignment was inspired by my girlfriend because I know that she wants to learn sign language and learn more about the Deaf community. She also shared this link with me, which includes ASL music videos.

Also, this video is my girlfriend’s favorite because this is the first ASL music video she ever saw in high school and she loved it.

Half A Minute of My Day

I chose to complete the 30 Second Documentary video assignment worth 4.5 stars. This assignment is exactly what the title says. This thirty second documentary is of something I believe I am good at. When trying to come up with something to demonstrate, braiding a horse’s mane was the first thing that came to mind. This is more than likely because I had braided a few manes for clients earlier today.

To complete this assignment, I used my great little brother/cameraman and my iPhone to record. I then directly uploaded the video to my blog via my phone.

Rigby Gets a Name Change

So I saw this assignment (5 stars) and was like omg yes. I’m not sure why, but unnecessary censors are one of my favorite things. They’re just so hilarious. Probably because I’m incredibly childish.

For my video, I decided to take an episode from the series Regular Show. It’s about this talking bird (Mordecai), his bff talking raccoon (Rigby) and their adventures in the park they work at. I personally think its a pretty good show. The main characters are around my age and I can relate to their relationship/job/regular 20-something issues.

What made me choose this show was the fact that it’s rides the line of being something that would actually require censorship. It comes on cartoon network and it has a TV-PG rating. Some of the jokes aren’t always completely child appropriate. I really played on that for this assignment.

The episode I chose is titled “Trash Boat.” In it Rigby changes his name to Trash Boat only to realize it was a terrible terrible idea. What makes this episode work so well is the continued usage of the name Trash Boat. It’s said so many times throughout the episode. It’s also visibly seen.

Check it out!

On to the creation process of the video. Everything was done using Final Cut Pro. The assignment only called for bleeping out words, but I decided to take it a step further and blur out the word as well. This turned out to be harder than I thought it would be.

After searching youtube for a while and trying several different methods that didn’t work at all, I came across this video.

It turns out there’s an actual effect in Final Cut Pro made just for this.

Well.

Well.

I felt pretty dumb. After I got over myself, I continued on with the process.

Screen Shot 2015-06-14 at 6.01.50 PM

omg look it works!

When that was done it was time for the actual word censoring. I also didn’t know what I was doing there. Again I went to youtube and thankfully found a good tutorial. A download of the censor sound was even provided! So helpful!

Out of everything I’ve done so far for DS106, I think this might be my favorite. It just turned out so awesome. I’m so excited about it. ?(????)

DS106ers React!

So reaction videos seem to be all the rage these days. Just go on YouTube, search reaction videos and hundreds of results will show up. Now it’s your turn to add to the growing list. Find or have a friend send you a video you’ve never seen before and film your reaction! It’s not necessary to have the video you watched layered into your reaction video, but do at least link the video you watched.

Here’s my example of the assignment:

I watched the trailer for Kung Fury and recorded myself reacting to it. Try to say a little about what you thought of it after the video. The video you watched doesn’t necessarily need to be a movie or funny. Try something sad! Or maybe a music video. The possibilities are endless!

Good luck!
