Week 9 Assignment: Movement

wiggle wiggle wiggle , said the lonely headphone.

For this assignment (3 stars), we had to find an object, make it move and vine it. Normally, I wouldn’t think anything of it. but I realized that A. I don’t have a vine anymore. B. My phone camera is awful. C. I was in a work space with nothing. Luckily, I had just finished taking notes from a hearing I was streaming so I grabbed my headphones, downloaded vine and it walked me through te process. Then I had to figure out how to embed it. That’s here! I did it!

TUTORIAL- Do a Talk Show Interview

This is the tutorial for the assignment I created called “Do a Talk Show Interview.” You can click on the link to view the assignment in the ds106 assignment bank.

1. Download a clip. Find an appropriate talk show clip to use for your interview. Length is up to you, but you’re going to want to find something less than ten minutes. Try to find a clip where you can isolate a lot of footage of just the interviewer, not the person being interviewed. That way it will look better when you substitute in footage of yourself.

2. Trim the video. Put the downloaded clip into a video editing program, like iMovie or Windows Movie Maker. I used Movie Maker. Once the clip is uploaded to the program, cut out the parts of the video that you don’t want. When you’re finished with this step, all that should be left is footage of the interviewer asking questions.

3. Plan your responses. Now that you’ve isolated the questions in the interview, come up with appropriate responses in order to make the interview flow nicely and seem realistic.

4. Record and format. Do a webcam recording of your responses, one at a time. Then put the responses into the appropriate places between the question clips. Play with the trim tool in order to make the video flow as well as possible.

5. You’re done! Check out what my interview looks like. I did an interview with Jimmy Kimmel. It was a lot of fun. Enjoy!

Attention: Noir Cat Sightings

Good evening everyone of noir106. My undercover photographer came through with several photos he had had taken of Noir Cat and it appears she is still on the run. He found her in Belize, Finland, and the Golden Coast, but what is peculiar about this situation is that she tried to hide her tracks by using a group of black cats that resembled her. Just by this action, it seems apparent that she does not want to be found. She refused to disclose any information about who she was running from and why. We offered her refuge, but she declined it. It is imperative that more tips come in as well as more sighting photos since we have lost her trail since she was in the Golden Coast; she threw off her trail as she jumped from rooftop to rooftop. If anyone can provide us with any information regrading this noir escape, please tweet us with the tag #wheresnoircat @HoN_Getaways so we can bring her safely home ASAP.

Sincerly yours,

Sebastian Crane

Time Lapse

I created (3 star) video assignment called Time Lapse in which one takes multiple 1-2 second clips of a single location. They then combine all the clips together so that the change of that location can be seen throughout the day. Similarly to the following video.

Selfie Story

I created a video assignment called Selfie Story. For this (4 star) assignment, one must use selfie pictures and clips to tell a 1-2 minute long story. One can add sound effects or music to make it more interesting to the viewers.selfie

Movie Scenes that Reflect Me

5 stars( http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/movie-scenes-that-changed-our-lives/ )

I choose three movie scenes that have had an impact on my life.

The first was the bar scene from Good Will Hunting. Everyone now in my adult life knows me as the woman who wonders. Who seldom stays still, but that was not always the case. In my young adult life I could not bring myself to life the island. I went from Barnegat High School straight to Ocean County Community College. I was afraid to leave my father alone, yet dreamed of the world beyond my beach oasis. But that is besides the point, many people, affluent people, on the island made it a point to talk trash about my poor degree. This scene captures my insecurities and plummets them.

The next scene is from Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood. This movie has always captured my heart for its depiction of the older women’s friendship. All you have to do is ask Janaye and she will tell you that our friendship has seen more than its fair share of rocky times. The car scene has Teensy putting Vivi in her place and I love it. In this scene Teensy would be Janaye and I would be Vivi…

The last scene I have is from Practical Magic, a great film, that is more emotionally driven than the others. I hope that one day I can have meaningful relationships with my children that follow them into adulthood as it had here in this movie for Sally and Gillian.

today’s word of the day is-

vimeo

How is this related to Bonnie and Cleo? why cookies are Bonnie’s favorite food, don’tcha know?

This is for the bleeping censor assignment and I gotta say it’s pretty great. It’s definitely not the most impressive thing I’ve done this week, but it’s pretty hilarious. There’s just nothing better than children’s characters cursing. or at least sounding like they could be cursing. the word of the day i the video was actually ‘important’ but it sounds funnier with the bleep. Then at the end he’s just shouting “COOKIE” over and over and I just had to bleep that too.

This is the video I used. Then I used this for my censor beep. At first I was going to work exclusively in movie maker, but I couldn’t get it to mute cookie monster for the moments that I played the beep. So I just took the audio from the video, edited it in audacity and then put that over the video in movie maker.

Then something is up with vimeo and the site is down for some reason. so I put in that image as a place holder until i can upload the video.

no we’re never gonna quit it, no we’re never gonna quit it

I like chocolate, how ’bout you? …well too bad, this song is about cocaine. but i thought the theme of illegal deeds and running from the boys in blue fit well for bonnie and cleo.

This is for the lyric video assignment. I created each page of lyrics in photoshop. I paired the straightforward, thin font, Orator std, with the bold, large, and handwritten font, Boli MV, for contrast and to put emphasis on certain words. The song is called ‘Chocolate’ and it’s a cover of The 1975 song done by Nina Nesbitt. It’s one of the songs I had put in my playlist for Cleo that I made with her character dossier. I chose the fade from black transition for the beginning cause I thought it was cute. And then for the rest of the transitions between slides I didn’t want anything too flashy or ostentatious or tacky. so I went with mostly slide across and down and then a blur through whenever I changed the background image.

You may notice I only did a minute worth of the song. That’s because windows movie maker kept giving me crap with the audio. If I wanted to start watching it from the middle of the video, it would play the audio a couple seconds later from where it actually was. So then I had to watch the video from the beginning every time I wanted to check the timing on a slide. It was fine at first and then became mind-numbingly infuriating by the time I got 20 seconds into the song. Then I also felt like I was practically doing a lyric typography poster for each slide and was verging on spending way too much time on a three star assignment.

hop in your doom buggies y’all

So there’s this funny little assignment called sound to visual and I figured I’d try it using this audio assignment.

All images are of the haunted mansion, which is in disneyland and disney world. I tried to kind of have the pictures be related to what is going on with the audio. So I show in exterior of the house in the beginning, a few rooms as you enter, more ghostly images when the ghosts are mentioned or heard, a transition to match with a ghostly puff of air, an organ player when that is the focus of your listening and then the famous hitchhiking ghosts at the end because they’re at the end of the ride. I did it all in movie maker and it gave me some trouble at first. The audio would show that it was there and then not actually play. After fiddling with it for awhile I decided to work on transitions and go back to messing with the audio later, but it fixed itself somehow. It just randomly began playing along with the images. I guess it just needed to load or something. I don’t know movie maker always does weird things with audio for me.

And how does all that relate to Cleo Barrow? I figure she’d be a fan of scary stories, ad should the Barrow gang ever need to camp out in the woods for the night, she’d be the first to suggest telling ghost stories. That works, right?

Turay Narrative

For this assignment (worth four stars), I had to describe myself (my character) through various clips.

I started with No Church in the Wild by Angel Haze to represent my distrust of society from a young age. Then, I used Man Down by Rihanna to show how and why I began to put my safety and life above all else. Next, a Grace Jones interview represents how I am somewhat desensitized to violence and aggression. I finish with Nicki Minaj’s verse in Monster to show my final descent into what can be perceived as villainous behavior.

To create this, I took various videos off of Youtube and compiled them on iMovie.
