Touch Grass

by Thomas Pulsifer

Based on Emma Cate Neves’ 5-star visual assignment prompt, “Earth,” here’s an image I’ve created using Adobe Photoshop. The number of letters in the words I chose ended up creating a lot more work, since it meant more blades of grass needed to be exposed through the mask, but I think that’s fair for a 5-star prompt. I chose the phrase “Touch Grass” because not only is it a joke among my friends, but it also makes perfect sense for the grass-related task at hand.

It can be a bit difficult to apply photography skills to art, but I did my best to implement the things I learned earlier this week. For example, I made sure the details were balanced. The ladybug and the dragonfly are evenly placed across the image, and as are the letters themselves. I also did my best to create a contrast between the lighter background and the darker, grassy letters. Overall, I think this visual assignment came out great, and putting it together was really fun!

I’m Not an Artist… If You Couldn’t Tell

For my third assignment bank, I chose to do the web assignment section and I picked Google Draw Something. It has a 2.5 star value. For this assignment, I went to Google’s drawing game, Quick, Draw! and drew 6 items, which I had 20 seconds for each one, and Google tried to guess what I was drawing. I did not realize how difficult it would be to draw something with your computer in 20 seconds, but I Google ended up guessing all 6 of my drawings in time. I did not know Google had a drawing game and I think it is so interesting that Google was guessing what I was drawing. Down below, I added a screenshot of my 6 drawings. As you can see, they are not very good, but the neutral net still figured out what they were! I thought this assignment was extremely fun and I would definitely recommend! It was also cool because you can click on your drawings at the end and see how it figured it out, what else it thought the drawing looked like and other examples of people drawing the same thing.

I also posted my artwork to Twitter so others could see how I did!

Week Two: Unique Choosing from Assignment Bank!

This week one of the assignments we were given was to choose three assignments from three different categories on the DS106’s Assignment Bank website. The three assignments I chose was “Your Favorite Photo” (1 1/2 stars), “TV Show Gifs” (2 stars), and “Tongue Twister” (3 stars).

TV SHOW Gifs

TVD Universe/Trilogy
Elena Gilbert
Damon Salvatore
Stefan Salvatore

For this assignment I chose to create four gifs from one of my favorite TV shows “The Vampire Diaries.” This show aired in 2009 and I was nine years old when I began to watch this show. This show became so popular that the creators created the spin-off “The Originals” which aired in 2013. The spinoff was labeled as one of the most successful spinoffs! The Originals became so popular that the creators created a spinoff off of the spinoff! (Yeah Ik! lol!) The spinoff from The Originals is the show called “Legacies.” Legacies aired in 2018. I have been watching this trilogy since I was nine years old and now I am twenty-one! I really love the plot, the characters, and pretty much everything about The Vampire Diaries. This show started in my childhood and I will always remember the fun times when I used to anticipate the next episode and the next season.

For creating the gif, I decided to take the three main characters from The Vampire Diaries and images from the spinoffs to create a total of four gifs. I decided to use the website makeagif.com because I remembered using this website for my DGST 101 course. I saved three photos of Elena and uploaded them to the website. Then, I adjusted the speed so it would flow better. I repeated this process with every gif. I finally downloaded the gif and Wallaaa!!! #AnimatedGIFAssignments #AnimatedGIFAssignments2158

Your Favorite Photo

For this assignment I chose the photo I labeled “Fresh Sparkling Snow.” I took this photo during my junior year of high school for my photojournalism class. I attended Massaponax High School. My teacher was Ms. Marshall and she was one of the sweetest teachers. Marshall created photo of the week. Photo of the week is when Marshall picks the best photo for that week and she displays the photo up in the classroom. The assignment for that week was about an advertisement. I chose the lotion from Bath & Body works that is labeled Fresh Sparkling Snow which is surrounded by snow! #VisualAssignments #VisualAssignments2152

Fresh Sparkling Snow

Tongue Twister

Seashells Tong Twister

For this assignment I had to say a tongue twister as fast as I could! I also had to include background music. I chose to use a snippet of instrumental music from this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbkWDDmV7-M I chose this video because the tongue twister was about seashells and I wanted to pick music that relates to the tongue twister. Seashells come from the beach so I chose instrumental music of beach waves crashing on the shore. #AudioAssignments #AudioAssignments2119

Reflection of Visual Storytelling

This week we worked a lot with Visual Storytelling. We worked a good amount on different media Platforms. For example, other blog posts, Twitter, Flickr, WordPress, Visual Assignments and for me I used a good amount of Canva. Learned new things … Good Frustrated a bit but was also overwhelmed with the good.

For me as I stated it was a very interesting all of the place experience. I really enjoyed taking photos but got frustrated that I only had 15 minutes so I couldn’t make the photos as perfect as I wanted too. If given the option I would have rathered traveling all over to take the photos. I really did enjoy making the daily creates because they were fun but got your mind thinking a good amount. The Visual Assignments I also really liked because I already had many photos that fit the topics and just paired them together or got help from family in making them. For most I use a website called canva to make the collages and add fun text and speech bubbles. Some of the challenges I faced along with not being able to make the pictures perfect was creativity. I was overthinking what I wanted to do for each thing to the point I had to step back relax and just get to work. Everything turned out so great and exactly how I wanted them to.

My weaknesses with Visual Storytelling was making it creative and original. Like I stated before I overthink everything and really wonder if it is good enough when I should just be confident in myself and know what I am doing IS in fact good enough! Changing this is necessary because it affects me in other places not just with Visual Storytelling but in life as well. One of my strengths is knowing how to work a camera and having a love for taking photos which made Visual Storytelling so much easier!

Overall my experience with Visual Storytelling was very fun and I am so happy I was able to do it. I learned how to use Canva more and how to make daily creates and learned more about making a create blog!

RELAXATION 1.5 STARS

Here are some of my favorite places to relax and chill. Top left is the Golden Gate Bridge in San Fransisco. This spot was so beautiful and I took this with my camera and edited it with a filter. The top left is Alcatraz. May is not a relaxing place for some but it was the best trip EVER. I love learning about history so that was ALL FOR ME. The Picture with the Sunset is one of my all-time favorites. It’s just so calming to be on an airplane excited to go somewhere and look out your window and see something like this. The last photo again is one of my top 5 photos I have taken and it was on a beach in San Fran. It was just me and my Aunt and that day were just so marvelous.

Me, Myself, and I. 3 STARS.

Here is my panorama of me myself and I. My idea for this was to show how sometimes I have different moods towards myself. The mean side, the shy one, and the nice one. ?

ā€œNants ingonyama bagithi Babaā€.3.5 STARS

This is one of my favorite movie scenes ever. This one of my favorite movies as a kid so of course had to do this one!

Lake Saranac Summer 2016

When I was in high school I got really involved with a club called Young life and decided to go to the summer camp. It looked like so much fun! When we got there it was so beautiful. There was so much to do there it was AWESOME.

One of my friends had a GO PRO and was taking photos on it the whole week. I guess I started to vlog off of her go pro. At first everyone thought I was crazy about that but sooner or later during the week they joined in. Sadly the videos never downloaded so we couldn’t get ahold of them. I have no idea how it got called Pedros Vlogs but it did. The memories from this trip I will remember forever!!!

Here is how I made my Spubble!!

Remix #2: My pets

For this remix I chose a picture oriented assignment which was http://remix.ds106.us/generator/?aid=58377. The prompt was to make a collage but the twist on it was to add someone unexpected. Here is a collage of my puppies right now and the unexpected person is my brother, because sometimes younger siblings are like little pets lol. The app that I used to make this was a free collage editor on my phone and then I emailed myself the picutre.

The brown puppy is Luna and she is almost a year old, super cute Shipoo, and the brown and white puppy is Brooklyn, she is a crazy little 6 month old Shitzu.

Your very own Spubble

This assignment was really interesting. I was looking for many pictures to use and I finally found one that was based on a true story. I was hanging outside on a hotel with the heat baking my skin. After a while, I headed back to the beach with my family and I decided to take off the headband and…oh boy. There was a division like a pure division of color on my forehead. So I decided to talk about that in my thought bubble. Also, this was a Remix edition so I have a fake mustache on the picture. I downloaded my picture from Google photos, downloaded the mustache and bubble from Google Images, and then added them together using Pixlr.
