A 16×16 corndog
I chose to use my immediate family in my collage mimicking the Brady Bunch. I felt like it would be perfect because everyone pictured, means the world to me! On the top row (left-right), my sister, dad, my parent’s dog, my niece and my dog. On the bottom row, my sister’s dog, my brother, mom, other brother and me!
Camp Poster Assignment: 3.5 stars
When I saw this assignment in the bank, I immediately thought of dance camp. I grew up dancing (you probably know by now if you’ve read my photoblitz post), so I thought this would be the perfect poster to make for this assignment. The name of the dance studio I included (Footnotes) is actually the name of my dance studio at home (the number is not real of course), but I thought this was a fairly easy thing to make and once again, PicsArt was my friend today. Have you had any experience with dancing or any type of sport related to it? Let me know!
This visual assignment calls for the student to “make a collage out of photos of your pet” and it immediately spoke to my heart. I said goodbye to my fur baby last summer and have missed her dearly since then. I was actually thinking of her a lot today and think this would be a nice way to honor her within my class assignments.
I looked through my favorite photos of her and decided to include a photo of her in the middle and surround it with all the adventures my husband would send her on in his wild imagination. We used to go have breakfast every Sunday morning at our favorite diner. While we waited for our food, my husband would imagine a world with no limitations for Lulu.
Visual Assignment One: 3.5 Stars
The task for this visual assignment was to draw a picture using four lines, five dots and one curve. I used the 3D paint app on my computer (I attempted at first to use some of it’s features to make a cool 3D image, but it just wasn’t turning out like I wanted it), so I just kept it 2D. At first I wanted to use the dots to create the title – 80’s, in order to connect it to the theme, but afterwards I sat and stared at my computer and realized that despite connecting it to the theme…it was boring, so I created a field of flowers instead (not much more creative but better than my previous idea I think). I was frustrated a bit because I only was able to use four lines, and my sun looks a little wonky (my little 7 year old sister who was watching me paint this, told me it looked like a bug), but then I just decided that this visual assignment is just going to be abstract with a bit of a child’s perspective on it, and that’s okay.
Guess the zoomed-in photograph:
I decided to do the “Design to Shock” visual assignment that task the student to ” combine at least two images (you may also use text) to create a shocking message.” I wanted to tie it to the 80s and thought of the HIV epidemic. I searched for shocking images from the HIV epidemic and decided to use this very famous image of “David Kirby, an American HIV/AIDS activist, photographed age 32 years at his deathbed.” The image is a powerful statement of the dire need to assist those with the disease and prevent its further spread, so I surrounded the image by social media messages about the prevention of HIV and some current statistics.
I do not have photoshop or GIMP, so I used power point to make a layout of the images and then saved the file as a .PNG.
Changed the hue of the picture
For this week’s Visual Assignment Bank assignments I chose a 3.5 star assignment entitled, Splash the Color. The assignment asks creator to use color splash, a technique that highlights one main color in a photo, while grey scaling the rest of the image.
I decided to color splash an image of one of the first movie posters advertising The Little Mermaid. *Fun fact: the movie was organically released in November of 1989, in keeping with our course’s theme this semester.*
To complete this assignment I honed in on Ariel’s bright red hair. I choose this object as it has become an iconic feature for Disney’s animated Ariel. It also lies in the center of the poster itself and inevitably catches the eye of the viewer.
This task was much more time consuming than I initially thought it would be. To complete this assignment I used the “Color Splash” App. The app itself is easy to use and has features that allows the creator to be as accurate and precise as possible when selecting what to recolor. However, in retrospect I wonder if using Photoshop and its “lasso tool” would have completed the job just as well at a faster pace.
Overall, I am pleased with the results. Despite taking longer than I hoped, I did have fun creating it!

Using 10 gifs to retell a movie. I chose to retell Coming to America, which is another wonderful 80s movie. I used my memory of the movie to google search specific movie parts and find the gifs to represent those moments.
