Eleutheromania

F+or 4.5 stars, I did the Narrative AmbianceĀ assignment, which asked us to:

Take a favorite poem, inspiring quote or passage from a book (or even a movie monologue, if you like!) and record yourself reading it. Then set it to original video you’ve recorded with some kind of music or sound effect in the background. The final video should be at least a minute long.

The goal of this assignment is to tell a story that evokes a specific mood–sadness, joy, hope, anger, fear, peace, wonder–and to do so not only through the literal meaning of whatever you choose to read, but through your use of original video and music or sound effects. Be creative! There’s a ton of different ways to interpret this assignment. When you write your blog post about it, tell us what mood or feeling you wanted to convey, what you want the viewer to take away from your video, and how successful you feel you were.

It should be fairly obvious why I chose this assignment: I love reading and writing. I decided to read one of my favorite quotes. Its by author Jack Kerouac. I’ve only ever read his novel On the Road, his most popular work. Its a little strange, to say the least, but a great read; its considered a “modern” (that is, theĀ 20th century orĀ contemporaryĀ sense of modern) classic. This quote, on the other hand, comes from Lonesome Traveler, a collection of short stories he authored based on “a compilation of Kerouac’s journal entries about traveling” according to Wikipedia. I actually found it on Pinterest, of all places.

<script async defer src=”//assets.pinterest.com/js/pinit.js”></script>

Its pinned on my boardĀ for art-sy stuff, namedĀ “Artistic Visions of Solitude“.

<script async defer src=”//assets.pinterest.com/js/pinit.js”></script>

One of these days I’m going to read Lonesome TravelerĀ though–like Kerouac’s other works, I connect to the mixture of alienation, wanderlust, and desire for freedom that living in the impersonal modern world leaves me with. One day I’m going to travel the world just like he did and hopefully write something at least a fraction as great as his works…But first I’m going to do this assignment.

For this assignment I used Windows Movie Maker, which is loaded onto most Windows computers. I’m sure Mac has a similar program, but I don’t know anything about it, so the tutorial on this assignment is really only going to be helpful to show you how I did things.

First, I hitĀ TitleĀ to add a title. The little window entitledĀ Add titleĀ appears when you mouse over the button.

Miscellaneous (1)

I came up with my weird-sounding title from an interesting term I found that means:

A great desire for or obsession with freedom.

Source: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/eleutheromania

It doesn’t fullyĀ describe the mood I’m trying to capture, but it does go with the ambiance. I wanted theĀ aesthetic ofĀ On the RoadĀ and the nomadic visions of Allen Ginsberg’s poem Howl, but a little gentler–essentially the aesthetic of the story I want to write one day.

To adjust the duration of each piece, you just go to the tab calledĀ EditĀ to adjust as follows:

Miscellaneous (2).jpg

I also added credits for my video by choosing from the different options for credits. At this point I also found myself wanting to adjust the text with the text editor, which comes up whenever you click on the text box on the slide. Experiment with different fonts, colors, sizes, transitions, lengths…I did ultimately settle for simpler stuff, but there’s a lot you can do with this software.

Miscellaneous (3).jpg

Miscellaneous (4).jpg

I put a music track over the opening credits.

Miscellaneous (5).jpg

Then IĀ added my video via Add Videos and photos. ItsĀ a video I filmed a while back while on vacation, available here on YouTube as below.

It seemed appropriately peaceful and serene, but also a little lonely and dull, just right for the idea I wanted to convey.

Miscellaneous (6).jpg

To add the words narrating my video, I clicked onĀ Record Narration.

Clumsy Chavez, Falling is Funny!

ForĀ this video assignment,Ā I got to choose a funny video clip, play it, then slow a part of it way down, like instant replay! This assignment was a total ofĀ 4 stars.Ā

lauhging

Like the monkey above, I love to laugh. My friends and family share the same sense of humor as I do, so needless to say we are a pretty comical bunch! Some of the funniest things that make us always laugh are when people fall, trip, or make complete fools of themselves. I know, it is a little mean, but if you cannot laugh when things go wrong, how can you live!? Even when I fall, which is a lot because I am extremely clumsy, I now expect everyone around me to bust out laughing. I even laugh at myself. The perfect example is when my friends and I went toĀ D.C. for a girls night out. I woreĀ these really nice, expensive shoes for the first time that night. While the shoes were exceptionally beautiful, the DC streets did not do my any favors at all. I stepped in almost every hole on the group and must have fallen a total of over 10 times that night and completely ruined my new shoes. I was honestly very sad, but it really was hilarious! Now every time we see someone fall, we always think back to that night when I was extremely clumsy.Ā

IMG_5122

(This is basically the closest photo I can find of what I looked like falling)Ā

The video I chose for this assignment is one of the funniest videos I have ever seen. I have watched it Ā a countless number of times and I still laugh. I had to do an instant replay of my favorite clip within the video!

This process was fun and not as time consuming as it might seem! To start, you need to choose your video you want to use. I choseĀ this original video. Next, I usedĀ Ā Youtube Video DownloaderĀ so I could upload and save the video to my computer. I then opened IMovie, and dragged the file into this movie maker twice, one for the whole video and one that I could clip down to the portion I want to replay:

Screen Shot 2016-07-17 at 10.32.43 PM

Next, I selected the second clip and softened it by dragging my cursor to remove the parts I did not need. I condensed it to the portion I wanted to replay:

Screen Shot 2016-07-17 at 10.34.05 PM

Next, I selected the smaller clip by clicking on it then located the slow motion option by going to Modify-Slow Motion- 50%:

Screen Shot 2016-07-17 at 10.35.23 PM

I then added “instant replay” to the clip by selecting the add title tab:

Screen Shot 2016-07-17 at 10.41.55 PM

I then added a slide to the beginning and the end under the title portion:

Screen Shot 2016-07-17 at 10.43.15 PM

Finally, I selected the export tab in the upper right corner and uploaded it to Youtube:

Screen Shot 2016-07-17 at 10.45.23 PM

Change the title and description and you are done!

It makes it easier if you upload the file with audio so you do not have to insert the audio separately*

I had a really great time creating this video and I hope it makes you laugh as much as it does to me! Enjoy!

A Picture Perfect Story

In this video assignment,Ā the main objective was to choose 5-10 words and create a video putting images and words together! The rating for this assignment isĀ 4 stars.Ā

Screen Shot 2016-07-17 at 8.36.59 PM

The words I chose were:Ā

coffee, love, Chanel, glamorous,Ā fashion, pearls

I am truly a girly-girl. Most of the things I think of in my spare time have to do with fashion and glam! It is no wonder why the words above came to my mind when starting this assignment! Ā My main inspiration for this assignment came from the filmĀ Breakfast At Tiffany’sĀ withĀ Audrey Hepburn,Ā one of my fashion icons. In the movie, she plays the character Holly, a New York socialite who falls for a man that moves into her apartment complex.Ā

03-danish-breakfast-at-tiffanys

Hepburn represents many of my words that I chose in her actual life and in the movie. Hepburn’s breakfastĀ in the morning is usually coffee and aĀ croissant. She is no doubt a glamorous individual, always dressed up in the finest attires. One of her main style icons was Chanel, which she drew a lot of inspiration from in her fashion choices. Pearls were always a necessity for her and she always displayed elegance and class as she wore many pearl necklaces. Love is a huge part of the movie and her character Holly, falls hopelessly in love with the character Paul. Her hard-to-get personality clearly is displayed throughout the movie, but love is ultimately what she wanted.

The process for creating this movie was fairly easy. First, I picked out the images I wanted to use for the video onĀ Google.Ā Next, I picked out the song I wanted to use from YoutubeĀ andĀ used this Youtube video converter to change a video into an mp3 so I could import it into my video:

Screen Shot 2016-07-17 at 9.17.21 PM

Screen Shot 2016-07-17 at 9.17.34 PM

Next, I opened IMovie, and dragged the photos I saved from Google into the IMovie and then started putting the words over the pictures for the video:Ā

Screen Shot 2016-07-17 at 9.19.55 PM

I then added transitions between the photos by selecting the transitions tab:

Screen Shot 2016-07-17 at 9.34.02 PM

Next, I imported my audio file to play during the video by going to File-Import media- then selecting the file:

Screen Shot 2016-07-17 at 9.41.13 PM

Position the music by using your cursor over the parts you want audio to play:

Screen Shot 2016-07-17 at 9.43.04 PM

Finally, add your beginningĀ and ending credits by selecting the titles tab and inserting them where you need to:

Screen Shot 2016-07-17 at 9.54.14 PM

ExportĀ to Youtube with the Tab in the upper right corner:

Screen Shot 2016-07-17 at 9.44.27 PM

Change your title and you are done!

This project was fairly simple yet time consuming to complete. I really liked that I had the option to decided which direction I wanted to take the theme and really make it my own. I liked that I added music from the actual movie into my video, it was an added touch.

This post really connected me to my love of fashion and beauty as well as my style icon, Audrey Hepburn! I hope you enjoy.

All of us use internet to find help with all most everything. And luckily there is a lot of online help available free of any cost, thanks to different internet enthusiasts who share their experiences online. There are tutorial for everything we do. It could be simply eating a banana or fixing a car engine. I have always found video tutorials to be fascinating and helpful.

Once I lost the video on my car DVD player. I tried my best to fix this problem. I took my car battery off to hard reset it. I soft reset it with the reset button several times but in vain. I even took it to a mechanic. He also didnā€™t know to do fix it. I could only see a ā€œ+ā€ sign in the middle of the screen. I turned to Google and tried different keywords. I was able to find a video tutorial after a few minutes of search and it has the simplest working solution possible. I just had to click on the four corners of my DVD screen and BOOM, it was fixed. The point I want to make with the above story is that itā€™s time to return the favor to the online community. What better way could be out there than making a video tutorial and putting it online?

In the following tutorial I chose to share with my audience a simple tool to fast forward any video. I have used Windows Movie Maker as it is a simple and free video editing tool from Microsoft available for Windows users. To record the video from the screen and my voice with it, I used IceCream Screen Recorder which is available here for a free download.

Original Video Clip in 1X

Video tutorial to fast forward with Windows Movie Maker (includes the fast forwarded clip)

I would also like to write down the steps that I took to make the video tutorial.

Step 1

Open Windows Movie Maker

Step 2

Open the video that you want to fast forward by clicking the ā€œAdd video and photosā€ button on the home tab.

Step 3

Select the video by clicking it and from the ā€œVideo Toolsā€ tab, increase the speed from 1x to 4x or whatever you like.

Step 4

The video play time has decreased from around 130 seconds to around 23 second with the same video frames played faster.

Step 5

Click on the ā€œFileā€ menu and save the video output in the format of your choice. I saved it for YouTube.

Step 6

Once you have recorded the whole process with IceCream Screen Recorder, you can again open the video in the Windows Movie Maker and add title slide, credits or music to it. I downloaded some royalty free nice music fromĀ BenSound and added it to my video tutorial.

Creating Instant Replay with Windows Movie Maker

4 Stars Assignment

YouTube video where the clip has been taken from:

I love pets. Back home I have got a dog and a cat. Yes, both of them live under the same roof in peace and harmony :). I have been looking at the video assignments to select one that I would love to try. I looked at the instant replay assignment and I thought why not make an instant replay of a clip from one of the dog shows that I already have on my computer hard disk. So I selected this clip from the Freestyle Flying Disc Winner – 2016 PurinaĀ® Pro PlanĀ® Incredible Dog ChallengeĀ® Eastern Regionals video. I usually watch video by Dog Challenge Eastern Regional. All the dogs and their owners are really amazing. They give it their best shot. There has to be a winner of course but I consider most of them winners as the winning point margin is not that much greater. Ā I really like the dog moving backwards towards his owner, therefore I made an instant replay of that specific part of the video. In the following, I have discussed the different steps that I took to make the video instant replay with Windows Movie Maker.

Here is the video clip with an instant replay:

Step 1

1

I opened the Windows Movie Maker and saved the project to my hard disk.

Step 2

2

I added the video clip by clicking the ā€œAdd video and photoā€ button.

Step 3

3

I was going to make an action replay of the video part starting at 11th second on the video timeline. Therefore I clicked on that part on the video timeline and then right clicked in the video to split the video at 11th second.

Step 4

4

I clicked on the video part I wanted to make an action replay of and then from the ā€œVideo tabā€ reduced the speed to 0.5 of the original speed.

Step 5

5

I downloaded a music clip from Free Music Archive and added it to my project. There are many audio effects that can be added to the video from the “Audio tab”. I added a slow fade out audio effect to make the audio smoother.

Step 6

6

I added a title slide to the video from ā€œTitleā€ on the ā€œHome tabā€.

Step 7

7

I added Credit slides to the end of the video from ā€œCreditsā€ on the ā€œHome tabā€. I added different credits as can be seen at the end of the video.

A guide on opening and closing credits is available here on BBC Website

Step 8

8

I saved the prepared video for YouTube from the ā€œFileā€ drop down menu. Video can be saved with different formats depending on what you need it for.

Just Keep Swimming

For thisĀ video assignment,Ā the objective was to make a moving object using Vine. This being my first project using the app, I started off by making a few sample vines to understand the recording options and settings. I was able to take still images of the fish and make it look like they were moving or swimming across the screen.

This assignment was worth 4 stars.

One fish. It was only one fish that started a movement. One fish that wanted to make this great venture. The venture may have only been across the tank but in their defense, this was one big tank. The fish had planned to travel from one side all the way to the other and dodge everything that got in their way. When this idea was first mentioned, every other fish disapproved. They were all either too scared and too comfortable on their side of the tank. As the idea built and the plan became more real, the other fish realized a decision had to be made. Leave their side of the tank or make their friend go on this scary journey alone. Once put into perspective, it was no question to them. They had to go with their friend. So they all traveled through every obstacle and landmark that blocked them from the other side of the tank. But no matter what, they all stuck together. They all made it across together and decided that they liked their side of the tank better. This meant another venture back across the tank.

To make this assignment, I had to create a Vine account after downloading the app to my phone.

IMG_2361

To start off the process, I was walked through how to create a video on Vine. You tap the screen and hold as long as you want to record and then release. You can change the subject or setting and tap again.

IMG_2362

I recorded my video and added a caption.

IMG_2367

When clicking the music symbol in the bottom left corner and scroll through music options to choose from. I selected the sound clip I wanted and added it to my recording.

The video was posted to my account as a final product!

A Story of Words

For thisĀ assignment,Ā 5-10 words were chosen at random. These words were then google searched and an image for this word was chosen. The words and images were then used to create a video and story to mesh all these random words together! The 7 random words I came up with for this assignment are as follows:

Summer, Love, Sunshine, Friends, Water, Green, Puppy

All images came from google and the list was developed at random using my surroundings and whatever popped into my head. Music in the video is from iTunes. iMovie was used to create the video and then uploaded to Vimeo. This assignment was worth 4 stars.

Summer. It has always beenĀ her favorite season. She sits on the porch and admires the world around her. The birds chirp in the trees and the neighbors say hello as they walk by. She lovesĀ everything about days like this. There is nothing more relaxing to her.Ā On this specific day, along with every other day this summer, the sunshine is blazing down and roasting everything in its path. This overpowering heat seems to bother everyone else but she doesn’t mind. She won’t get off the porch for a few more hours. Finally, herĀ friendsĀ come over and they immediately head to the beach because what else would theyĀ do on a beautiful day like this? They all craved being by theĀ water.Ā Any beach, any river, any body of water. They didn’t care, they loved it. Their favorite spot was this little area of the river that not many people knew about. The grass was moreĀ green and the sky more blue, or at least thats how it seemed to them. They treasured this spot they had found last spring and go every chance they get. The last of them show up to their spot and she has a surprise. She got a puppy! They stay there for hours and think about how great their lives are on days like today.

Making this video, I used many different applications. I started by opening google. I sat on my porch for inspiration for my random word choices. After creating a list of words, each were googled and an image for each was selected. Images were saved on to my desktop and then uploaded into iMovie.

Screen Shot 2016-07-13 at 10.40.03 PM

All images were dragged and dropped in the media section in the top left of iMovie. Once added into iMovie, I dragged them down into the story board in the order that I had chosen.

Screen Shot 2016-07-13 at 10.46.24 PM

Videos were given an effect for how they would appear in the video by clicking “Transitions” in the top menu bar. Further adjustments can be made by clicking on the image in the top right corner and changing any of the settings from the menu bar above the photo.

Screen Shot 2016-07-13 at 10.40.22 PM

Image length in the video was adjusted by dragging the edge of the clip in the story board to desired time.

Screen Shot 2016-07-13 at 10.43.50 PM

Zoom pattern could also be changed when this transition was selected. Placement of the zoom for start and stop positions could be edited in the menu bar or clicking directly on image.

Title and end page were added by clicking “Title” in the top left menu bar and dragged into story board. Music was added by clicking “Audio” in the same par and choosing from a song from iTunes. Credit for the song I chose isĀ Jubel by Klingande.Ā

Screen Shot 2016-07-14 at 5.49.05 PM

Once the final product was created, I went to “File”, “Share”, and then selected Vimeo. I linked it right to my Vimeo account and uploaded my video!

I do..what I do

Another great Ā Video Assignment this comes from the assignment Ā What Do You Do?Ā this is worth (4 starts). My thinking is that it should be rated about 3 stars but that is just my personal opinion. I guess this is where I tell the story about what I do everyday, I actually think this is what every hopefully dose everyday, they take a shower !!

How did I make the video? well, I used my iphone to video record because it isĀ portable . Ā I went into my bathroom and the first thing I did was see what 8 sec felt like. So I went into video mode on my phone then the I pressed the record button. I then restaged what I wanted in the video so it would actually look the way I wanted it to. Since I used my phone I was able to access the video through icloud. So I downloaded the video to my computer and I was able to uploaded it to youtube. To uploaded to youtube I had to open youtube in Google. Then I pressed the “upload” Ā button which is located in the right hand corner. Then I selected the video and dragged it to the open space that read ” Upload video”. I did reset some of the settings as I was saving it like for instance the categoryĀ in which it was place into Ā or “What Kind” of video it is.

This is really my most favorite part of the day itĀ either signifies theĀ beginning of the day or a fresh start to a new one. I am so glad that I painted my nails before this one it makes the look like I have really nice feet.

So, I Had This Dream Last Night

This video assignmentĀ asked you to make a movie about a dream you had as a kid but I decided to make a movie about a recurrent dream I’ve had. It was one of the most strange dreams I ever had and I remember re-telling it to my mom the next morning. It started with me on a couch in my living room watching tv. There was rain and thunder outside and one lightning bulb came through the window and struck my television. It went black and started smoking, but then it flashed back on to a news report for the next day. They were reporting on a woman’s body found murdered, and when they put up a license plate photo of the victim, it was me. I was freaked out but before I could say anything another flash filled the room and my television was back to how it had been before. In reality, the rest of my dream I spent trying to figure out who was going to kill me but for the sake of this video, I made an abbreviated version. So from this dream, I was inspired to made this little video.

I made this video using clips I got from YouTube. I used so many clips that it would take me an hour to list them all but some of them were the Psycho shower scene, a video of rain outside of a window, and a news report about a body found by ghost hunters. Yes, that is a true story. I downloaded all the videos using KeepVidĀ and imported them to iMovie.

ss

I cut all the clips and put them in order. Then, I used GarageBand on my Mac to record my voiceover. I didn’t do any voice adjustments to my audio or any effects. I simply exported my audio and inserted it into my movie. The music I used in the background was a generic synth. song I found on the GarageBand program.

Screen Shot 2016-07-13 at 5.41.28 PM

Lastly, I went to the visual effects feature on iMovie and chose the “Dream” effect that cast a hazy glow on all of my film clips. Then I uploaded it to YouTube.

youtube

I’ve always thought this dream I kept having was really interesting. I don’t think I’ve seen a movie that had the same kind of plot so I made my own. I also had a good laugh at the cat clip I put at the beginning because it was the only thing I could find that represented me laying on the couch. I wasn’t intending for the movie to come out so eerie like a scary movie at first, so the cat at the beginning seems a little out of place. Though, I hope it gives you a laugh too.

Moving Object – “Make a moving object using Vine.”

So this project was actually so easy it should not have been four stars. That saying, I guess my tutorial will be a little different this time since it is so short.

  1. So first you have to actually make a Vine account.
  2. Then on the top right where there is a smiley face in a bubble, a camera, and three dots, hit the camera.

vine2

3. This will take you to where you can record your vine.

4. Once here it is time to record! Just hold down on the screen to record. If you lift your finger it stops recording.

vine]

5. When you are done recording you can edit the vine or create text under it.

vine1

6. Done! Save and upload.

So for this assignment I tried to use the shaking camera I saw and reflected on in one of my earlier posts. When the camera was on the Joker it seemed to shake which added a really cool (or I guess, creepy) effect. It almost symbolized how crazy the Joker is but at the same time it could be the shaking (symbol for fear) of the audience/mobsters. I mean let’s face it: the Joker is a scary guy. I would be shaking too if he was sitting a foot away from me!

I wanted to do this assignment because I have always had a Vine account but have never actually made my own vine. I figured this could be a great opportunity to try making something on a new website, and the experience ended up being pretty simple! I also had to think of what prop to use that I could make a story with, which was actually pretty hard at first. I had an idea of what I wanted but I have long out grown dolls/toys/stuffed animals. Luckily my sister let me borrow one of her creepier stuffed animals (I love owls but look at those eyes!)

“It was a warm summer day and I was home alone. My parents were at work and my sister was at her friends house. I was making myself a sandwich when I heard the first noise from behind me. A fluttering sound. Almost like a bird was in the house. I searched around and finally found my dog, who was cowering in a corner staring at something. I turned my gaze to where her eyes were looking and saw… nothing. I was confused but figured she maybe just had a bad dream. I return to my lunch and this time heard scampering. I whipped around to catch whatever it was to see a whole lot of nothing. I shook my head, figured I was losing it or something. I walked over to the kitchen table and sat down. This time I felt something soft bump into my ankle. I peered under the table to see two wide golden owl eyes staring back at me. I jumped up with a start and knocked my chair back, startling my already terrified dog. She had enough adrenaline to run and hide but all I could do was stare at this toy. How in the hell did it get there? If my dog had seen it, the toy would have been torn to shreds in a heartbeat. Heartbeat. My own was fluttering just as that noise I heard earlier had. The fluttering! It had to have been this toy! I shook the thought out of my head because it was just too impossible. Within seconds I watched this toy bump into my leg. This gave me enough of an adrenaline rush to run to my stairs. Being extremely clumsy, I hit my toe on the wall next to the banister. I took a shaky look down to see blood bubbling on my foot.
Ouch.

I dramatically and in slow motion had to crawl up the stairs, because that is what I have seen in the horror movies. I glance behind me and see this:

I passed out from fear at the top of the stairs and when I woke up the toy was gone. I called 911 and told them my house was being haunted by a stuffed owl and they immediately sent over an ambulance. Now I am in the psych ward and all the toys around me keep staring at me. Please make them stop.

The End. “
