These flip aren’t just walking. They are walking straight out of my office and to no more responsibility. This week has been really stressful for me because I started orientation which means I have about zero free time and I would really like to be able to take my flip flops and get away.
Creating a Vine was fairly simple. You press your finger on the screen of your phone when you want to record.
After you are done recording you hit the arrow at the top of your screen.
You can then hit the add audio button which will allow you to add anything from your iTunes library. I added Alabama Shakes.
Then you select the chunk of song you would like in your vine.
You then upload your video to vine, which can be embedded straight into this post like Twitter.
Create a lyric video for a song. Try and be as creative as possible. Use multiple fonts, colors, backgrounds, and transitions. Try not to be super plain and try to deliver the lyrics clearly and correctly. (4.5 Stars)
I had a hard time deciding what song I would like to create a lyric video for, but I finally settled on Tiger Striped Sky by Roo Panes because it has some of my favorite lyrics that exist in a song. I stumbled onto this song by accident in my Spotify Weekly Playlist. I have since listened to it on repeat and know all the words. I think it is so interesting to me because what would you consider a Tiger Striped Sky? Video became challenging when I learned that iMovie no longer comes standard on Macs. I didn’t want to pay for iMovie so I whipped out my PC because Windows Movie Maker can still be downloaded for free. I had worked with Movie Maker when I was much younger, so I knew to some extent how the program works. I quickly learned that Movie Maker works a lot better now than it did when I was younger and is much more user friendly.
You simply add all the photos that you would like to include in your video from the desktop.
You place all the photos in the order you would like them by dragging and dropping them in order. You can make the photos stay in the screen longer or shorter by clicking the video tools and extending the time.
You then click the add music button and the sound for your video is inserted in conjunction with the pictures.
You click the Caption button on the home menu to insert text over the video. Once all the text timing is correct you can click the file menu and click save movie. The movie will then save to your desktop.

After I saved the video to my desktop I uploaded it to Youtube prior to embedding it in this video.
For the Favorite Actor/Actress Highlight Reel assignment I put together the video above. I am a big fan of DiCaprio movies so I enjoyed going back and looking at some of these crazy scenes he made.
Behind the Creation
I knew immediately when I saw this assignment that I was going to make this compilation for Leonardo DiCaprio. I think he is such a great actor and just embodies any character he plays so well. I hope that this compilation sheds some light on DiCaprio’s acting ability, if it is not evident already. There are many other movie clips I could of selected but I had to try my best to keep this within a minute. Despite the fact that he has only won one oscar in his career (which is a load of BS), he is one of the best actors in Hollywood today. I hope you all will enjoy watching these as much as I did.
The Process
I used iMovie to put this video together. The process of importing and cutting the clips to create the movie was the same as in my All Hail King Leo assignment. Refer to the tutorial I made in there to get a more detailed explanation of how I put the video together.
The task: Take related clips from your favorite show and make a video out of them!
My creation: a compilation of Joey Tribbiani saying “How you doin’?” with the theme song of Friends, I’ll Be There for You by The Rembrandts.
One if my all time favorite TV shows is Friends, so I chose to use the show as the basis for this project. When I started thinking about a way to link clips of the show together, I tried to think of a character that had some sort of a catch phrase – which led me to think of Joey Tribbiani and his use of the phrase “How you doin’?” All of the friends characters crack me up – the show NEVER gets old – and I have my favorite moments for each of the characters. Fun Fact: My all time favorite moment from Friends is when Phoebe explains how Ross and Rachel are lobsters.
And, music doesn’t get any better than Smelly Cat.
Always remember: PIVOT. It’s a moo point. And, they don’t know we know they know we know.
How it was made:
Once I decided to make a compilation of Joey Tribbiani, I searched YouTube for videos of Joey saying the phrase (I used videos of him saying the phrase one time per video, not a completed compilation.
Then I used the save from net site to save the videos to my computer.
Then, I opened iMovie on my computer and imported the downloaded videos my clicking the import button on the top left hand side of the screen.
Once the videos were done loading, they appeared in a box towards the top left of the screen. You can click at the beginning of each video and drag to the end of it in order to select the clip. The video will now have a yellow outline, and a small plus sign will appear in the bottom right corner of the video image.
Click this plus sign in order to add the video clip to your video. Once you add it, it will appear along the bottom of your screen. Continue to highlight and add your desired clips. You can click and drag each clip once it is in the bottom to change the order of the clips. To delete a clip, click on it and press the delete button on your keyboard.
You can use the menu on the bottom left of the screen to add transitions, titles/credits, backgrounds, and music.
Simply choose what you would like to add, and menu will appear towards the top left of your screen. For example, if you select backgrounds, the following menu will appear.
Select the background you would like to use and click and drag it to the appropriate place in your video at the bottom of your screen. Follow this process to add music or transitions to your video.
You may need to adjust the length of your title, credits, or music. In order to change the length, click the right hand edge of the yellow box around the item and and drag it to the left to trim the item, or to the right to extend it.
Once you have made all of your adjustments, you can save your video by choosing share at the top of the screen (two buttons over from import) and them choosing a social media network or file (if you wish to save it to your computer).
So apparently, my day revolves around the chickens I’m looking after. At least, that’s what I learned doing this assignment. The first thing I do in the morning is open up their gate, the last thing I do is make sure they’re locked up safely for the night in the coop, and I do a lot of looking after them during the day.
After watching the example, I knew I had to try it out myself. The 60-second day vlog from the example was engaging in that it used a ton of quick cuts to give us an impression of someone’s day, as seen in the example. If you search on YouTube for more of these, you’ll find that they’re all very entertaining. There’s something interesting about getting only tiny bits of information about someone, but over a long span of time. Here’s the example provided with the prompt:
So, here’s my Saturday. It’s pretty typical for me: a morning workout, trip to the farmer’s market, hanging out outside, watching tv and reading, and eating eating eating. Oh, and a lot of chicken time. I hope you enjoy!
The Process:
This was my first time using iMovie, but I was impressed by how easy it was to use. Thanks, Apple, for another intuitive program. We love you!
I filmed everything on my iPhone. I connected to my computer’s USB drive, and opened iMovie.
Next, I clicked on my iPhone from the ‘Cameras’ menu on the left. You should see the videos/pictures from your iPhone displayed. Select the footage you want to edit, and select ‘Import’ on the bottom right.
Now that your footage has been imported, click ‘Create’ from the top menu.
Select the theme you would like to use. I chose ‘No Theme.’
It’s time to put your clips together. I made all mine exactly 1 second. Slide the orange bars on each clip to choose the part you want. The exact time of your selection will appear in the little gray box, pictured below.
Now, click inside that orange selection box you made, and drag the clip to your timeline below.
Repeat these steps. Drag your next clip to the timeline, and continue until complete:
To add an intro/outro, select the ‘Titles’ option from the bottom left. Choose the one you like best, and drag the clip onto your timeline the same way you added your video clips.
Do the same thing for the outro:
When you’re happy with your video, click ‘Share’ from the top menu, and choose the platform you wish to share it to. I chose YouTube, which will bring up this menu:
After you click ‘Next’ and log into your YouTube account, you’re all set. It takes a while to upload, so if you want to check on its progress click the clock icon in the top right:
These are the tools I used to make my video assignments. First, let’s talk about the adding videos and music. To add videos use this:
or drag and drop your video files onto your storyboard. To add music use this:
Cutting out the excess film from the middle of a clip.
use the Split tool:
This tool splits the video at the exact frame you are on
To make choosing a frame more precise you may want to use these buttons:
they progress the clip one frame at a time.
choose a starting and an ending point, split the clip at those points.
Once you have the section you want to remove, click on it to select it then press the remove button: you can find it in the home tab or by right-clicking the clip.
you can also use the split tool to add transitions or blank frames just for text:
Transitions:
click on the clip you want to transition too, then choose from the options in the toolbar. You can hover over them to preview what they would look like.
Adding text
in your home tab, there is a caption option
click on this to add text anywhere in your film.
you can change the font in the format tab with the text options
if you have bad audio quality in your video and you only want the audio/music you added to be heard go into the video tools under the edit tab, there you can click on this:
then you can adjust how much sound is coming from your video file.
To change the volume of the audio you added, go to the music tools under the options tab and click this:
then you can adjust how much sound is coming from your audio file.
To add a pre-designed layout, intro/outro like on one of these options found in the home tab:
when you choose one it will automatically place the slides on your storyboard, and you’ll have to edit them. Simply click on the one you wish yo edit, and you’ll see the text on your video screen. Click the text on the screen to edit it.
Extra Tip:
you can use the split tool on your audio as well, so if there is any profanity you can mute it out or remove it.
If your video is too large, and you want to upload to Vimeo use the premade setting they have when publishing or saving. It may shoot the video quality, but without it, you may not be able to upload. I ran into a lot of trouble with space availability for my videos because they took up too much space.
I originally prepared 12 minutes worth of content, uploading that much content, however, was a problem. So I had to remove all but three of my games and clip out most of the spaces between action. I chose the funnier moments to keep because it is moments like those that keep bringing me back to this game. I play this game often and is probably the only game I can fit in year round, even during school. My closest and best friends from high school play this game with me. This game is always changing, each patch brings something new to look for. Reworks give us something to experiment with, for we absolutely love breaking meta. Another thing about the League of Legends, it’s the league world doesn’t only exist on the fields you play in for most league players; the lore, mini-games, and community all bring it to life. For those who pay attention to the extras, League is much more engaging, using rivalries, alliances, champion specific taunts and dialogs between each other!
If you want to see the content I would have included in this video check these out
I have always wanted to learn sign language. At one point in life I was even trying to teach myself. The only sign I’ve managed to remember is the sign for bullish**… go figure haha. When I came across this video assignment I automatically knew I would give it a shot. The assignment required that I take a video signing a word or phrase and have my audience guess what I spelled out. So take a wild guess!
Hints: 9 Letter Word/ The instrumental in the back round has the word in it’s title…
Hopefully you guess before making it to the credits haha DEAD GIVEAWAY.
Learn how I made this video by watching the tutorial.
For the Highlight Reels assignment, I created the video above. It consists of some skills by the Argentinian Lionel Messi who plays for the club team FC Barcelona.
Behind the Creation
I am a huge soccer fan, or football whatever. I do not care what the hell you call it, you’re talking about the same damn sport. Anyway, I have been a fan of soccer for many years now and also play soccer whenever I can. I loved making this video and could honestly just keep putting my favorite clips of him from over the years but then this video would end up being over 20 minutes or something. I picked some epic and dramatic music for the back track because I think it compliments Messi’s status in soccer as being the greatest in history. At the end, I decided to not have any music and just let the emotions of the crowd be the “music” you listen to. I loved the clip at the end because it is just raw footage from the stands and it immerses you in the experience and it gives you the closest feeling to actually being there in the stadium. Also a quick side note for those non-soccer fans, getting past someone by going between their legs (a.k.a. a nutmeg) is extremely embarrassing for the player who it happens to.
The Process
I used iMovie to put together this compilation which is a free movie editing software that comes with a Mac. It is very intuitive and simple to use.
After opening the iMovie software, I went to “File” and selected “New Movie” to start a new movie project.
The project editor is now created for you. To import my clips, I went under the “Libraries” section in the left bar. I right-clicked on where is says “iMovie Library” and selected “Import Media”.
After finding where I saved the clips on my computer, I clicked the blue “Import Media” button in the bottom right to import the clips from the folder where I put them.
The clips that I can now use to create my video now show up under the “My Media” tab located above.
I can now click at a certain point in a clip, then I can drag my mouse up to the part that I want to add into my movie.
The selection I made gets highlighted in a yellow box
I then pressed the little box with the plus sign to add the section of the clip into my movie. A little tool tip also show up when I hover my mouse over the box to inform me of what clicking the box does.
After clicking the plus button, the clip section now shows up in my movie timeline below. I followed the same steps of making selections from the clips above and adding them to my main movie timeline to put all the clips together.
To add transitions into my video, I went to the “Transitions” tab above which brings up a list of transitions I can pick from. I selected the one I wanted and simply dragged it to the part I wanted it in. A tool tip also shows up when hovering the mouse over it to inform you of how to add the transition.
I put the transition at the end of the video and I can double click on the box to adjust how long I wanted the transition to last for.
To add the titles, I went to the “Title” tab above. This brings up a list of titles I can select from. Same as with the transitions, I simply dragged the transition I wanted to the place where I wanted it in my main movie timeline.
The title now shows up as a purple box in my main movie timeline to where I dragged it to.
Since you can only add transitions and title between separate clips, I right-clicked at the place in my movie timeline where I wanted to split the clip so I could add a title in between. This brought up a little menu from where I selected “Split Clip” to but a split in the clip.
The clip is now split and you can see that the editor puts a gap in between the clip. I was now able to add any title or transition I wanted to put.
To edit the text on the title sections, I simply double clicked in the preview window on the text. I can now edit the text straight from there to whatever I wanted. There are also font editing options available above to make other changes that you want to make.
I then muted the audio on the first clip. You can see that I select the first clip in the main movie timeline since it is highlighted with a yellow box.
Here is a zoomed in view of the box. To change the audio volume on this clip, I simply dragged the horizontal yellow line above the sound waved on the bottom of the box. You can drag this line up or down to increase or decrease the volume respectively. I dragged it all the way down to 0 to mute the audio. I did so for all of the clips in my main movie timeline.
To import my own audio track. I opened a folder window where I had the audio file. I was then able to drag the audio file from the folder window to the bottom of my movie timeline.
The green bar representing the audio I dragged in is now displayed under my main movie timeline.
To shorten the audio, I was able to simple drag the end of the green box to the left to make it shorter.
I then dragged it to where I wanted it to end. Then to save the video into a .mp4 file, I went to “File” then selected “Share’ from which a menu appeared. From this menu I selected “File” to export the project into a video file that I could share.
A window appears from where I could make some final tweaks before I export the project, I decided to keep everything as it was. I then clicked the “Next” button in the bottom left.
The video begins to export, after it was complete I get a notification from my Mac that the export has finished and it is ready to share.
Freshman year is the year where everyone feels nervous, excited, sad, and just a bunch of different emotions. It is a new time for everyone. I came across tis Video Assignment, which was to talk about your freshman year and to be as honest as possible. I am not a freshman, and I haven’t been for a while, i am about to start my junior year in the fall, but this assignment basically had my name written all over it.
The reason I say this assignment had my name written all over it is because freshman year, more so the first semester, was one of the most difficult and worst semesters I have ever dealt with. I started off school at VCU, which is where I thought I wanted to be because they had a forensics major, which is what I wanted to do. I started noticing pretty early on that something just wasn’t right. I wasn’t happy at all with being at VCU; my schoolwork was not up to my standards and I was skipping class a lot because I would have rather been in my dorm sleeping or watching Netflix. I was the most unhappy I have ever been at VCU and that is when I knew I needed to leave. I told my parents and decided I would stick the rest of the semester out there, and then go from there.
December rolls around and that was the most exciting thing for me because it meant not much longer at VCU. I ended up enrolling at NOVA for the spring semester, and I am so happy that I did. My work started to finally be up to my standards and I actually enjoyed my classes and didn’t ever want to skip them. I met SO many new people around my area, one of which is now my boyfriend of a little over year, and I never would have met any of them if I had stayed at VCU. Although it was an extremely tough decision for me to make to leave VCU, I would never take it back because my life has changed so much since then and I am the happiest I have ever been. Freshman year isn’t going to be the same for everyone, some may love it and make so many new friends and some may have similar experiences to what I did, but one thing that it is for everyone is a new experience. While freshman year wasn’t the best for me, it made me who I am today and has brought a lot of awesome people and things into my life.
To do this assignment I:
Went to my SoundCloud account
Thought of a few things I would say before hand
Push Upload
Record
Final Upload
I went with more of a raw, honest vibe with this assignment, so there is no editing. I wanted it to be like I was having a conversation with a friend or family member, and obviously you can’t edit what you say when doing that.
